Moab is getting closed left and right. They tried to close the Owhyee’s here in Idaho. Had jeeps and bikes on these trails for over 50 years. Wonder what changed 🤔

Welcome to the era of side by sides where any average joe with zero off road experience can go out and destroy trails and wilderness and feel like a hero while doing it. I owned a side by side rental company for a couple of years and quickly learned that most people that rented them had no experience with off road and thought they were invincible. Ill never forget the day I got one back mangled up and full of blood and hair because the parents let the teenager kids take the rental out and do whatever they wanted with it. Good thing I had the proper insurance in place and got fully reimbursed for the machine and loss of business. Then the insurance company sued the renters for over 60k. They are lucky that nobody died even though two were life flighted and spent some time in the ICU. They could have bought a new top of the line machine with that money. Needless to say, I didn’t feel like it was worth my time to continue to run the business and I was tired of my machines being returned damaged and tired of my local stomping grounds being destroyed by my own side by sides.

Been a thing here (PNW) for a while, only stuff that's safe is the places they physically can't fit through the trees. Side by sides are an absolute blight on the off-road community.

Unfortunately welcome to my world. Anything east of the Mississippi has been destroyed by quads and SXS's. That's the reason i bought a blaster to race. There is not one track within 500 miles that they haven't opened up to quads and completely wrecked the terrain.
Yeah, we've seen lots of it here as well. I don't understand these people. I mean, if you're going to break the law anyway, and destroy the singletrack, why not create your own damn trails/roads? Low IQ people, that's why. Ugh.
It’s a tale as old as time. Horses and mountain bikers poach hiking trails. Dirtbikers poach MTB and horse trails. ATVs poach dirtbike trails. SXS poach ATV trails. Jeep Wranglers poach SXS trails. I’m guilty of all of the above, with a Morgan horse in the pasture, and a Specialized, KTM, and Polaris in the garage. It goes both ways too. Mountain bikes rail the berms on trails I helped burn in on my dirtbikes decades ago near Pima & Dynamite in Scottsdale AZ… and now the trails have been closed to dirtbikes for almost 20 years.
True, but nowadays we have laws against this kind of stuff for a reason. When people do crap like this it gets areas closed down to some of us and, in some cases, all of us.
