"Belize was the first place I was ever given a hand grenade by a gang member". Ross Kemp. Fuelled by unemployment and a rampant drugs trade, gangs are battling a turf war in the slums. Ross meets the gangs that control the streets and sees a fraction of the weapons that make this city so violent.

I love Ross Kemp. He is just really open minded and sensitive. And that make him an excellent documentarist.
It broke my heart when he said he cried for 2 years and now he can’t even feel pain, can’t cry no more 😢 I hope he got assisted medically for sharing his tragedy.
Deep that ending with the kid on the wheelchair is heartbreaking stuff, “cried 2 years until I don’t even feel pain no more”...
"Remember when you stabbed me in the back with a screwdriver, and I knocked all your teeth out ?" "We are buddies."

I made it out but my ghetto wasnt as bad as what y'all have down south. Biggest problem was car bomb biker war that had nothing to do with most of us. They kicked everyone out and turned my ghetto into a student housing development after i left. Never been able to find any of those folks on FB or anything. :(
I went on vacation there 10 years ago and it was such a beautiful country.
@James Blanton ofc u wouldnt see anything beautiful. This is about gangs the bad side of Belize just like every other country has. If you actually went there, which i have, there are beautiful beaches and its like a tropical paradise.
I've been to Belize...it's beautiful...has an amazing mixed culture...I'd say most police are very corrupt...the average people I met were very respectful and wanted respect in return...and no I'm not talking about resort staff...Belize city is great..but unless you have a local escort with you I wouldn't hang out after dark alone just like I wouldn't do in any big city I'm unfamiliar with...the people I met were positive, proud, and usually like Americans. Trust me when I say you need to go to Belize
Shittt im not going to that shithole brahh wtf you mean
@@yosoydpfknr2855 Belize is composed of 6 districts ... And 1 of the districts name is (Belize) and the capital of that district is Belize city ... That's where this documentary was taken ... I live in the district of Belize called (Cayo) and I assure you there is a lot of peace in this areas

I love my country.Every country has its violence. Jehovah will soon help us to overcome ours. He is already with us,we just need to open up our heart and accept him
Yeah the city only really gets dangerous at night. I drive a massive truck in the city and my boss tells me I always have to make it out before dark and I've been there after dark doing my deliverys and I dont like it but I've only once seen someone get shot in two years so it's not really as bad as this video makes it look and that shooting was personal and actually it happened in broad daylight but yeah I always try and get out before dark cause I could get robbed

That last guy at the end yo.. I really felt bad for him
Just remember there's two sides to a story, he must of done something awful too.. Karma is a bitch
This guy had terrible open wounds. Which the people didn't know how to tread them. But that isn't difficult at all, it just takes some time and some natural raw honey from a beekeeper. This honey makes the wound dry and cleans out and kills bacteria. Even in Europe you see people die from these kinds of wounds or people have to live with them, but these wounds will heal very slow with conventional treatment or no treatment at all. But with honey and daily cleaning with boiled water, clean towel and so much honey that the whole wound is filled. He has a very good change to heal up in a few weeks.
@@philipwinkelhorst934 Honey is what my aunt calls me, I'm not going on the wound, I'm busy and it's gross. So sorry he should just try dear or sweetheart, even some damn antibiotics.

Ross Kemp said it's incredible how casual the attitudes are about killing in Belize City but when you don't have a respectable paying job and no hope for the future, killing and drug dealing is the best respect you can get. Incredibly heartbreaking.

Excluding the AK 47, all those weapons, i.e. M 16 and AR 15, are American weapons. Most NATO countries use their own brand of firearms instead of American ones. we just feed our eyes with this so we can scream at people meanwhile ross kemp is fighting his own personal demons while living in the same conditions as the people as he interviews. yeas i know he won't be there for long but i'm pretty sure apart from the people he visits and interviews he is the one carrying on the scar himself. when this happens i'd hoped there was another button which doesn't say "like" i'd like a "empathy"-button.
Oh so you know him personally ??? If not stop judging. He's a great journalist.going places all governments want to hide. Going places no one has the nerve to go.
@@sharonburton9663 i was trying to say that he goes through the same struggles as the locals for a short time and must face demons on his own, I also tried to explain on documentaries like this youtube should have an empathy button instead of liked. I see that was really bad English my bad!.

I'm going to Belize in a couple months wish me luck!
There is nothing to fear but fear itself ... I am sure that reality contrasts this video quite well...and you have already seen the many attractions that our country has to offer... So how dangerous is it? If you follow the usual precautions anyone should when traveling (even in your own county) you will avoid becoming a target. Even the dangerous gangs in the country recognize that tourism is a vital part of our economy, and thus the cases where tourists are targeted and attacked are the lowest in the region...
If you go the regular tourist routes (Cays Ambergis and Caulker) , you have nothing to fear. Stay away from Belize City, as it is a royal shit hole. Other then the airport and its few surroundings, and the immediate vicinity of the sea port, you have NO BUSINESS in or near B.C. If you go to places like Placencia, Dangria or Punta Gorda, things are OK there, but still. If locals talk shit, just ignore it, don't escalate confrontations (male or female) even if you did not do anything and they are just rambling. In Belize, when it comes to words, it is similar to Jamaica, as words could kill (you). Many people are very sort tempered (like they say in the video). And considering that jail system in Belize is rather small, many petty crimes and assaults go down with essentially a slap in the wrist. And as we all know it, crime w/o a sufficient level of adequate punishment will only create more crime. In Placencia I saw a US expat getting threatened by a convenience store female beggar over her insistence in getting a dollar or two from the guy. He told her to fuck off, so she first began to trash talk with some really nasty racial slurs, and then she said that she knew where the man lived and (she) will have his face busted if he comes back, or even shoot him if she feel like it... That last one was probably a BS, but still. It was an ugly verbal fight, the one you can hear plenty of in NYC, Miami, or London, but there beggars rarely (plausibly) threaten people with violence. I also heard of a small group of young tourists getting assaulted and threatened with a gun and later robbed, over a bar shit talk. This was also in Placencia...
