  • Gotta admit, the show got me interested in American (the continent that is) trucking, but I had no interest in the way it was done on the show, knew that was gonna come back to bite them. And sure enough, stories I read was, after the show came through and was thrown out of basically every ice road > No more History Channel on ice roads, and preferably no more filming on ice roads... period. Apparently the drivers were lucky to keep their CDL's. Obviously you don't mess about, so you're in the clear I should think. 8LL and 18RTLO WITH spicer auxlliaries, I've always thought it would be cool, but never thought anyone would actually do it! I've heard stories of those auxilliaries binding or having other issues, which is why the Road Ranger's were such a godsend when they came out and got further refined, reliability above all else (which at -30c, I can understand). Interesting choice of air valve/selector on the shifter too, you normally only see those on earlier 8LL's or 13spd RTO's, 15 RT-"U"/RTO shifters with 2spd rear ends. Very peculiar gearbox & overall rig setups, thanks for sharing, subbed!

  • Interesting footage. I've had an interest in the ice road for quite a few years now, ever since a thread was started on motorcycle website (of all places), ADVrider by an inmate there. He lives in Yellowknife and was working the ice road every season as an employed driver before eventually getting his own prime mover. Then the TV series came along accompanied by the crazy antics of some of the drivers who appeared on it and I think the word came down that no one was then allowed to do any filming. Regarding the gear linkages, I know it's money but wouldn't it be easier to fit a single stick, multi speed transmission where the lever goes directly into the top of the box which would then negate any further dramas with rods jamming up?

Love the short video you got of raven swooping down and flying beside your truck for min or so. Awesome shot by the way, once in life time. Q: I understand eaton fuller 18 speed. Got that for my pc truck sim. Does the dual shift give you more then 16 forward gears? Could you maybe give short video of how you shift gears maybe in next video? Thanks. Take care and stay warm :)

Very well produced video, very nice job, the drone shots were a nice touch too. 👍 Does ol' Kenny ever venture that far north? or maybe the cabover is too rough for those roads? An 8LL & 4spd spicer...i guess in most cases you're shifting the aux-box twice for every hole shift in the main? I hope there's time for you guys to upload a few more installments. 👍
