it’s sweet that Bill has heroes, especially as he isn’t anyone’s hero 🤣😎 and great job with that fringe: matches beautifully and stitched up perfectly
Thank You!
If someone had told me that I would be interested in this topic, I would have shaken my head negatively. **Once again, Santee you proved me wrong. Not only do we learn from your videos, but we are entertained by amazing audios and visuals along the way. This is truly, IMO, one of the BEST channels out there. YAHOO and YIPPEE Thanks for informing this back Easterner about the Old West.👏👏🤠
That is really nice of you to say, Rhonda!
Sweet holster!
Much appreciated!
Another great video, with another great cameo appearance by BatjacJW!
You know it!
Very cool. I’ll have to send this to my friend, he has a Slim Jim Holster for his Smith & Wesson Model 610 in 10 MM. This was a very interesting video, nice touch with adding the Fringes
Thanks!
It would be a honor to lean from you good folk im 21 so I'm always doing what I can to lean more about our history and history of our great firearms.I just got my first 1851 old silver navy and I love it,just need to save for a fine slim Jim.thank you folks so much and god bless everyone
Cruiser , they are not very expensive, check Track of the Wolf , Cabelas, or Dixie gun Works . But first figure out how you want to draw you piece . They come in Right and Left draws.
Excellent info from Olin. The nice thing about them is the belt loop usually gives some room for adjustment, so you can tilt it forward or back depending on your preference.
Love holsters, this is particularly interesting for those of us interested in historical authenticity.
Much appreciated!
Good inspiration for neo westerns
Could be!
I always liked this style. I'm all for minimalism in your gear, especially if you have to wear it all day. Two ounces at 6:00 AM is about three pounds by 6:00 PM. Nice work on the refurbish. Best of Days.
Right on! I feel that way about most stuff. Especially when you have to walk through an airport to get to your gate! Thanks.
Very nice holster update/refresh. Also I was hoping Rex would scream snap into a Batjac. 😂
HAHAH!
Beautiful holster my favorite! Great vid !
Thanks for watching!
Awesome job on the holster! Love it!! Glad to see that percussion firearms are getting more visibility and recognition.
Thank you!
You did a wonderful job on that holster.
Thank you very much!
Nice! I like the style. Enjoyed the process and examples to buy already made or DIY for others. Keeping the Spirit of the West ALIVE.
Thanks so much!
Also another good start for my weekend!
Glad to hear it!
You did a great job on the holster. Plus a history lesson. Fantastic video my friend.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Love how it came out Cheese !!! fantastic !
Thank you 😋
Those Slim Jim holsters are nice! That red russet leather is pretty! You would get along great with Tom Czechansky, he is curator now of the Natural WW2 museum in N.O., but used to be curator of the Confederate museum and he owned a leather works making repro leather gear. Known him since I was a kid, probably misspelled his name though... Yeah you did good! 👍😊 Man I could make a meal out of those jerky sticks and Cheezits!
HAAH! Thanks.
That really turned out nice. I have an old holster from the 1890's or so I've been told by some "experts." It's still in fairly decent condition.
cool!
Nice work mate. Another great vid from Santee and the crew
Glad you enjoyed it
Hi, Santee. I am a leather worker these past 40 years. I have a military-style half-flap holster for my SAA, purchased from El Paso many years ago along with a garrison belt and Dyer box. I decided I wanted a bucket-style slim jim for my 1875 Remington, tooled in early fashion. That type of tooling is beyond my skill despite experience. I could only find two makers who did such work as done by Winchester & Main in S.F. after the Gold Rush. The most expert work was done by an artisan outside the U.S. I told him I wanted left-handed cross-draw, but he thought the terms were synonymous--- when I wanted left-handed cross-draw 45-degree angle. I should have been more clear because when the holster arrived it was straight-drop. The holster is an artistic masterpiece, but for me, a straight-drop is problematic--- unless I never sit down. Additionally, since the holster is a historic reproduction, it is stitched with linen. It appears the ones you worked were too: a thread that lacks durability. I use artificial sinew for everything, and absolute historical accuracy as to thread is inconsequential to me compared to durability. I entertained replacing the thread, but held off as I am reluctant to interfere with a work of art. After watching this video, I may give modifying my beautiful period holster a try after all. I'll have to take a close look at it. Maybe I could replace the belt loop and stitching at the same time. Or not--- as the belt loop contains a rivet. It would be bad to mess it up. And how about that video on Dyer boxes I requested a while ago? The garrison belt plus Dyer box are the lightest, fastest, and best way to go for Old West single-action carry. As far superior to those beastly cartridge-loop belts as slim jims are to heavy loop-style holsters.
I will do a video on dyer boxes and the like. Cap boxes that were re-used for cartridges, etc.
You should talk with Rex. I see him moonlighting in the Carl's Jr. commercials.
Hmmm.....that would bring in some more money to feed him.
😅😅 nice ending.. Your a talented man Santee. Always fun to see what you'll bring us next. Great job mate.
More to come! Much appreciated!
Nice sir. Refurbished is always super cool. A 1851 just right in a Slim Jim holster. Enjoyed much. Rip another one out soon. 🤠👍
Thanks 👍
I made a Slim Jim holster for my 1851 last year. I really need to get that pistol to the range soon!
I hear ya!
Howdy my kids and I want to thank you l,brings a nice start to Saturday morning for us.
Our pleasure!
Awesome work on the holster!! Great info!! I love this!!
Right on
Great holsters as they are for any long barrel. Perfect of course for navy and army colts. These look good on any belt.
They do.
Another great episode Santee! A holster may be my next project.
Good choice!
Nice leatherwork, Santee.
Thanks!
Nice looking fringe job Santee. I have a bit of deer skin and a retro Slim Jim, you've given me ideas..... that can't be good, lol. 🤔
HAHAH!
Slim Jim is the best jerky ... Thanks Santee
HA! yes.
I made a matching pair of holsters based on the middle one from your “inspiration” pic, i like the fringe, looks great
Much appreciated!
Nice demonstration thank you for sharing. Always learn something with you say Santee.
Thanks for watching!
Nice work, Santee! Didn't know you did leather work. 👍
Thanks 👍. I don't do a lot of it, because of time constraints. Love to do it, though.
@@ArizonaGhostriders That's a great skill. I'm gonna try it
That holster turn out great Santee :) Cant wait for more videos about holsters :D :D
Thanks 👍
Well done video... Love the leatherwork.
Thank you very much!
Thanks Santee. Great information. I really need to get on making mine.
Go for it!
Thanks again Santee & Co. When I was in the navy I usually carried a 1911a1 in a flap holster issued by the Gunner's Mates . When I was an MP I spent most of the time as a patrolman armed with a shotgun . But I served as a dispatcher for a while , and carried a 1911a1in an under the armpit tanker style holster . My officers would have changed me with destruction of government property if I had cut off the flaps of my issue holster . By the way , nice work on the restitching , adding the fringe , and the recoloring .
Thank you so much. Good to hear what you carried, too.
Thank you..
You're welcome
Nicely done Santee, I really like the fringe. I actually made a Slim Jim holster early on in my Cowboy Action Shooting history. Still pull it out occasionally, it’s held up well. 🤠 👍 👍
The handmade ones really do. Look at the book Packing Iron. 150 year old holsters still in great shape.
I got me one of those California holsters in black ( as the original army cut downs would be) for my 1858 Remington. That and a rifle cartridge belt pouch for loaded extra cylinders is about all I carry
Nice!
Love that piece of music - The Colonel - it fits miners, boomtowns, and six guns. Nice restoration on the holster.
Me too! Thanks, Greg.
Great job on the restoration Santee! That looks great and I love the fringes! Hoping to make something similar for my BP revolver.
Yeehaw! Appreciate it.
Good one for today. Edutational. Stay safe out there, and take it easy man.
Thanks, will do!
Awesome stuff! I’m a little green with envy that you can leather work!
You can do it! I did it because I wanted to make my own holster just to see if I'd like it. I did! It does take patience, which I am in short supply of, but it's so worth it when the thing is complete.
@@ArizonaGhostriders I’ll have to give it a try! Thanks, Santee!
Really nice work
Much appreciated!
I love the Slim Jim I have two for my Colt Peacemaker and one for my Remington New Model.
Nice!
Looks good Santee! I love doing holster work and you're usually the one that inspires me to make 'em!
Glad to hear it! I can't wait to see your masterpiece coming up.
Santee what a great job you did on that holster! Looks terrific professional. 🤠🌵
Thanks 👍 I have to say, it wasn't as easy as I thought. Pre-punched holes didn't help like I figured they would.
@@ArizonaGhostriders well no matter what I think it looks pretty darn good.
Awesome history!👍🏽😀❤️🇺🇸
Glad you enjoyed it
Nice job on the holster and good job on the video.
Thanks 👍
I like the holster. Santee, you're a man of many talents. Thanks again my friend.
Thank you kindly
That could replace the flap holster for my Remington Army! Thanks!
Yay!
Great episode!
Thank you!
That is a work of art for sure. Nice job!!!
Thank you! Cheers!
Hey santee! was watching your vids back in 2018 but lost ya for a bit during covid/lockdown. Good to see yall still doing what you do. Much love from Dublin Ireland.
I appreciate you and thanks for coming back
Great video Santee, Nice job on the holster! I've made a few holsters too. JT
Very cool!
Santee, it would have been nice to see your 1851 Navy in the Slim Jim Holster. I have a Brass Frame 1851 Navy in .44 Caliber. I've been thinking about buying a Slim Jim Holster and am curious how it would look. Thanks for sharing this informative video with us today. Stan in Idaho
It was in there. That was mine in the holster.
@@ArizonaGhostriders Thanks, I'll have to re watch the video.
nicely timed video. today i'm renovating an old hunter western belt and holster for the heritage rough rider .22 i just got. can't afford a new rig. so dug out an old one from the box i keep the old stuff in.
Good stuff!
Great Job Santee! Love the finished product bud! Love when people do DIYs and create it better!
Couldn't agree more!
We'll see you on down the trail! Then a scream, and the sound of crunching bones, as an empty Slim Jim wrapper floats softly to the ground. Now he's known as "Lefty".
HAHAHA!
This is really cool, Santee! I’d want mine to ride a little low so I don’t have to bend my elbow/wrist much, just grab and pull!
Sounds great! You can do that easy.
Good holster and video Santie 👍👍
Thank you!
Rapscallion... ...I likes the sound of that !
My favorite word next to rogue!
Nice work
Thank you! Cheers!
Another excellent video Santee! No sure this relates here, but not all slim jim holsters were worn as shown, not sure if it was just a rarity or more functional, of the holder was right handed than it was located on the left side at acute angle, but was more practical to wear it this way? But what ancestor research told me, you can tell who has conference in using the navy by looking at the holster, whether it has a top cover to protect the user and other people from those who are using it as showing rather than experience, which was more to liking of the rich northern state enlisted officers.
I imagine just like today, people wore what made sense to them. The nice thing about a loop holster like that is it can be adjusted all over the place and at different angles.
Good job!
Thank you! Cheers!
I’m waiting for my Uberti 1873 cattleman el patron. My first single action! Gonna have to start looking for a holster soon. 😀
Congrats and enjoy it (when it arrives).
Another awesome one Santee. Love that you put history behind all your videos. So cool. 👍
Glad you like them!
Turned out nice! I don’t see a lot of holsters with fringe.👍🏻
Me neither. However, it is historically prevalent, and I've never done one. So, why not, right?
Nice bit of leather work there Santee
Thanks 👍
Great job Santee very talented!! Looks great with that ol colt in it!!
Thanks 👍
Very awesome and informative interesting video, I definitely learned a lot about the slim jim holster from the old west. I also got inspiration for my old West/wilderness inspired novel series I’m writing.
Good!
@@ArizonaGhostriders thanks 👍🏼🌟😎
as a lefty myself I am quite fond of the cross draw.
I get that!
Man, that came out real good. Excellent work, fringe work came out perfect. I use to make primitive 18th century hunting bags that were used for NRA fund raisers. I just finished up a fringe butt stock cover for a 1860 army colt detachable shoulder stock.
Glad you enjoyed it. If I do more fringe I will get that template since cutting them was pretty time consuming.
I purchased a Ruger old army SS. With a one off aluminum and brass shoulder stock. My late brother made. Haven't tried my conversion cylinder yet. Shoots great with cap n ball.
Great video Slim
Thank you!
Nice show. Can you make one about soap and cleaning supplies ?
Great suggestion!
nice job
Thanks!
Hah off your right elbow at the start then next to a holster and then on a holster the well known AGR logo well done vid and you have some leather talent.... Many hats you wear... Keep up the great content!!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Fantastic leather work. Alll I can say is ohhhhhh yeah…….snap into a slim Jim. 😀
Right on
Great job and well done on the video , I’m definitely going to to be adding old West holsters to my old West inspired novel today. In my books world the inhabitants will wear both old west frontier clothing as well as retro era clothing. There is one scene in my story where the inhabitants wear special velvet and silk outfits in honor of their holiday known as National Alpa Centennials day.
🤠
@@ArizonaGhostriders thanks 👍🏼😎🌟
Good morning sir. Thank you for a good episode. I definitely like learning more about holsters and Holster design from the cowboy period. This is your friend Ted from Texas
Thanks for watching. Eat some BBQ for me today, ok?
@@ArizonaGhostriders I definitely will eat some today for you. Please my birthday and I'm going to celebrate big
@@tedebear108 Happy Birthday!
Haha reminds me of my dad and his buddies sewing and making their own gear and kit. They were big War of 1812 reenacters. They actually taught me how to sew, saying that back then manly men knew how to sew
They were very resourcesful.
Always wanted to make one of these. So I’m very jealous 😂😂
LOL! Make one, already!
an OLD friend of ours years ago owned a 'jock-strap' holster made in San Francisco, it was MADE of very thick hide (buffalo??) and was lined with white calfskin, that showed thru a crazy pattern of piercings thru the thick outer hide... quite the show piece, would SO love to have known the history on it.....
never seen another of that type...
Buffalo hide would be a good one to try!
Love the history! Love the meme. Just ask your mom.
Thank you!
My old 1858 would look good in that holster.
I bet!
That Fringe idea was sweet Santee. I do a little leather work also not much these days. When you make your slim Jim holster do you wet form them Santee? Look forward to some more leather videos.
I wet form them all. This one was all done by the previous owner.
Your holster turned out real nice, Santee. I had one that I made by cutting off the flap. I have seen others that they left the flap on but cut a slit. They then passed the holster back through creating a Mexican loop holster. I carry my holsters for with butt forward. Slid to the front for cross draw or slid further back for a reverse draw or even a road agent spin draw. Check out American Outlaws for the road agent spin draw by my distant cousin, Frank James.
Very cool you had a holster with the flap removed. That's neat! Thanks.
Military holsters have always sucked! Had a holster made by a guy in Tombstone! In fact a few! Very cool video!
They are one I don't care to use, but would like own.
This video makes me want to have a actual slim Jim
Nobody's stoppin' yuh!
I love videos that have to do with covers
Good!
Wonderful presentation, as always. Does anyone know where that shootout at 2:00 comes from?
the Sisters Brothers.
Mmmm slim jims 🤤
LOL!
Btw love your videos
Much appreciated!
Got one in black
Cool!
Here’s a small paragraph from my old West inspired novel: As Mercia Hawkins and Ayzria Elodie were thinking about what exactly the key of truth was, a disembodied telepathic voice rang out” the dwelling place of the key of truth lies deep within your subconscious, the two of you must confront the subconscious of your minds”. Then the voice told them”However please hurry, The olden ones are coming “. Soon after hearing that Ayzria asked” just who are you “. The voice answered “ I’m the angel of knowledge and guidance Emennadiel, I’m here to guide the two of you onto the right and true path known as the path of truth “. Upon knowing that Mercia and Ayzria looked at each other with confused looks on their faces. They shrugged their shoulders. Even though they didn’t quite understand the meaning of the angels words, the two of them agreed with the angel and accepted the beings guidance. Here’s a character paragraph: Emennadiel is the father of Àràgiel Numinàs, he looks after both his son and his sons friend from childhood Mercia Hawkins. Who lost his father Thomason during the Dheneb Rangers mission Operation Treasure back on July 20th 5950. Emennadiel acts as a father to Mercia. I hope you all really like these paragraphs from my book
🤠
@@ArizonaGhostriders thanks 👍🏼🌟😎
Hey Santee I was wondering where you get your leather to make holsters, Thanks
I had a leather maker guru that got his from Herman Oak, and I have a stash of that still. Otherwise Tandy is sufficiant.
Ok I got one more question for ya what thickness of leather should you use making holsters
Great video. I was wondering did they celebrate Halloween in the old west? If so how?
I have a video on that in the Spooky Old West playlist.
