How We Pick Out Dairy Goats Using ADGA Performance Programs
I get asked quite often to evaluate goats that people are looking to buy. In this video, I go over how I use the Linear Appraisal (LA) and Dairy Herd Improvement (DHI) programs to pick out new stock for our herd and in making breeding decisions.
Here is the link to the LA training booklet:

This video was not produced in affiliation with ADGA. It is simply my convoluted way of learning all I can about a goat from looking at the numbers.
Remember that two animals with the same score can look very different. Find a style you like and work on improving your stock while keeping that "look". I have sold animals scoring 90 (Excellent) because they did not have the style and/or production I want.
Finally, it costs the same to feed and care for a quality goat as a poor one and the quality animal is going to give more in return. Start with the best you can get.

Wow, that was an excellent presentation. I have a lot of dairy goats and I learned a lot in your video.
See? I'm not the only pedigree nerd! LOL I spend countless hours pouring over this stuff.
Same!!! I am seeing results in my herd from all the research and educated breeding decisions.

This is really awesome. I hope you can make some more recent videos. How is your herd doing?
I'm glad you liked the video! Our herd has been doing well. We made it past kidding season with more bucks than we would have liked but we are very happy with the quality of our animals.
That was very informative. I am new to goats and have been struggling with understand what the numbers represented.
I'm glad it helped. It's all so confusing to start with.
