With warm wet weather, goats can become susceptible to internal parasites. In this video we go over the materials you need and the steps to show you how to perform your own fecal testing at home.

Fearless Kristin goes where no others dare! Thankyou!
Ruby Gray Haha!!! Making poop and microscopes interesting. I know that I am much more likely to pull out the microscope than I am to drive to the vet, pay $15, and wait two days for results.
@@HammockHavenFarm Say what? the vet would only charge $15???
Ruby Gray I think that’s what they charged last time I brought one in. It’s been a few years ago now.
It's been a year since finding you, I am feeling confident enough to identify eggs under a microscope, thanks to you! Great information on your site, I appreciate your efforts.
Thank you, have the equipment and just enough knowledge to be dangerous, I needed this :)
Thank you for posting this; we will start doing fecal samples for our puppies. The way you explained everything was detailed and solid. If all teachers were like you, education would be excellent.
Great video with VERY useful information. We find the need for fecal results is often during a three day weekend when the vet is closed. Thanks for 'talking crap' with us. LOL
I have a goat teaching channel too, thanks for showing how to do this. I will be starting soon. We have cold wet conditions too and worm problems. I like the rock work on your front porch.
Love this video very informative
Awesome!! Thanks for this video!
This is so helpful. I don't have goats but will use this method for my cats and dogs.
Thank you, I learned alot.
Interesting. Thank you.
Great video!
Thank you so much for this information!
Excellent presentation, thank you.

This is great. Thank you for helping me realize I can do so much for myself.
Thank you
Thank you very useful.
Excellent! I just did this course, great to be refreshed.
Thanks it was really helpful..
Glad it helped!
ty
Exceptional!
Thanks,,👍
Thank you so much! Your video was informative and very well explained. I SERIOUSLY thought you were ignoring your baby though....lol....I was so happy when you said cat fight! LOL
Haha! My babies are 16. ❤️
Thank you for this! I am new to goats and just got my first 3. 2 of them have had diarrhea and I'm being told to send in feclas, but since I already have a microscope I'll just get the other supplies and do it myself.
Thank you. Quick question, can you do this for chickens?
Is the flotation stuff formaldehyde?. That is what we used for stool samples?
What size test tube do you generally use?
You can do a wet mount with water or saline
Just a couple of things to clarify; other sources say 28ml flotation for 2 grams and after mix and strain wait 20 minutes before putting into Mcmasters?
Just watching your technique was so helpful. Too bad I'm actually trying to learn how to analyze my rescued pigeons' droppings, but I watched your video all the way through anyway... Thank you...
That is neat! Glad it helped -Chase
Hi.. Thanks for the vid... Am wondering if any McMaster slide will do or is there one, strickly for poultry?
Christine Haslam I don’t know for poultry. The McMaster is designed so you can estimate the total egg count. Any slide will work to check for and identify eggs.
@@HammockHavenFarm thank you --- I just ordered one to check for eggs in my chicken poop...
Hi... Great video... A question... How do you clean/ sterilize the test tubes/slide after use? Diluted bleach, or?
Christine Haslam I just washed them in hot soapy water and let them air dry.
When using the McMaster slide, do you count one or both sides of the slide then multiply by 100 to get EPG?
It has been a long time but I believe I average the two then multiply by 100.
I followed your instructions and thank you for making this video. I didn't see any eggs under the microscope which makes me think I'm doing something wrong. The only thing I can think of is about the 2 grams of poop. My two grams was 9 poop pellets. I believe you said yours was 2. Would over 2 grams of poop in the 60 ml flotation liquid cause issues and no eggs to float? Just wondering. Thanks.
How do you clean the McMaster slide? Do you clean and reuse the regular slide and slide cover?
Look again...she showed you.
Can we use water? Instead of the other solution
Hi we bought Beetal Dairy Goats for our TheFarmers.Farm in Northeast India. YOur videos are so helpful. What do you do if you find worms in your goat poop?
We use a wormer/medicine to knock out the worms. This is Chase typing so I don't know the exact kind we use but I know some work much better than others for us.
I tried to open these images on a public computer, but access was denied. So I right clicked on each image, selected "Copy Image Location," pasted that into a separate browser, opened it, right-clicked on the images and pasted them all into a Paint document. Just in case anyone else is having problems!
Ruby Gray Thanks, Ruby. For some reason the pictures opened on one of my devices and not the others. Chase got them to work by right clicking and opening in a new tab.
How often would you recommend doing this test ? Thank you in advance.
I watch their eyelids. Search how to do a FAMACHA Score on goats. If they are really pale, I'll go ahead and worm them. If I've already wormed them and they're still pale, or if the eyelids look okay but their body condition is dropping, I'll run the test. Does that make sense?
Make sense. Thanks so much
I just paid $30 for one sample. I want to definitely want to learn this skill. What do you use to worm your goats?
I am using Cydectin sheep drench and Valbazen at this time. Whoa! $30! That adds up fast.
HammockHavenFarm Thanks!
Sounds like your cats need a fecal test too! Hahaa...
Am trying to see if I can do sperm and worm count on one microscope am still learning.
I am curious how many goats do you have and are you able to make money producing cheese from those goats? how much money? Our vision is to create a business with our goats and introduce this to the villages for making cheese. Have you ever made goat ice cream? Thanks for all your fantastic videos.
Yes, we have tried ice cream and it can be great! The amount of goats we have varies especially after kidding season but 10 or 15 milkers is our average. The key is getting an appetite for the cheese. We began at a farmers market selling cheese, milk, and other products to open people up to the idea. After a little over two years, we had enough people who would go somewhere else than the market. Glad you like our videos! Thanks -Chase
So if a goat has worms what does that mean?Does it affect the milk directly, as in .. is the milk safe for consumption? or does it affect the health of the goat, which then affects milk ?? how often do you test? .
Unchecked will kill them.
What find madam

Gloves? And, are you really working on the family dining room table? Other than that, I shall now exercise my 5th Amendment Right to remain silent.
You are taking this way too seriously 🤦♀️ she’s not handling human blood, it would be EXTREMELY unlikely for her to contract anything from livestock feces. You should have probably exercised your right to remain silent the whole time and not even made this comment. It’s literally just poop, she probably lives on a farm and if you know anything about a farm you know that deal you with a lot of poop everyday as is. It’s inevitable on a farm. Thats why we frequently wash our hands and have disinfectant sprays specifically made for cleaning and sanitizing stuff with poop on it.
