The world of Eorzea is under siege from all kinds of villains, and it desperately needs a hero. Luckily, the realm happens to have THOUSANDS of them. Today I take a casual look at the 2nd MMO entry of the series.

I love how this video includes a screenshot of SomecallmeJohnny's player avatar from FF14. Well played Clement.
It’s also got cameos from Derrick (Good Vibes Gaming) and BelleAim. They’re in his party list around the same time.
Got a time stamp?

"the game does this cool thing where it tells your party when someone in the group is a virgin" (Clement; 2021)

Thanks game, thanks......

Uh huh now finish the sentence that gives context to what he actually means instead of fishing for attention on KZhead....
The Great Clememt is back.
"A Hero reborn" 😏
A warrior returning alive
When people talk about how great HW is, they're not strictly talking about 3.0, which contains the main leveling content. They're talking about Heavensward and POST-Heavensward, the lvl 60 content through 3.1 to 3.3. To many, that consists of the entire Heavensward storyline. Specifically, the content being hyped is 3.3, where the entire Dragonsong War is brought to a close. MMO storytelling tends to not be restricted, and the patch contents are a continuation of the story rather than simply additional story.
Moreover, I think most people would say that it's all of the patch quests to x.3, usually.
Gotta be honest, to me, all the post main story msq have been boring as fuck.
Two takeaways from this video: First, I'm also a bard main who plays on controller and I have no idea how you don't hurt your hands without customizing your hotbars lol Seriously there's a lot of buttons. Second, that bit about the Heavensward story ending with that Nidhogg battle? It actually did! The post MSQ for expansions actually carries on the main story of that expansion until a few patches in and that patch in specific is the final battle of the Heavensward story. Stormblood copies this tactic but SE said Endwalker isn't going to work like that so that's probably for the best since there's a lot of new players that don't have patch context for when things happened.
i'm so damn excited for this. and the rest of the future of this channel. clement, long form content like this is where you shine!!!
Quick correction; A Realm Reborn is a direct sequel, not a soft reboot. The events of 1.0 are continuously called back to and even followed up on throughout the game There's an additional video called Flames of Truth that shows what actually happened to Bahamut and Louisoix
They rebooted the entire game, that's what he meant, not the story.
Soft reboots are continuations of the story with tonal, quality, (and potential) character changes
Thank you for all the hard work you put into this, Clement. It absolutely lived up to the expectations set by the rest of your retrospective.
1:04:40 Look guys, it’s that song composed by Somecallmejohnny! 🎶
I've been watching this retrospective series since it first started and I've been waiting for this specific game for so long. Hearing your adventures in XIV takes me back to when I started playing. It makes me happy to hear that you enjoyed it as much as I did. I hope you continue to enjoy the story and community for a long time!
I audibly let out an “OH!” that’d rival Michael Jackson.
I got chills when the final moments hit. Me and a group of friends in a ventrilo server sat in awe as the world ended. Love the retrospective clement!
You really should do a retrospective on this game after finishing Shadowbringers and Endwalker. These two expansions combined pretty much comprise the greatest story I've ever experienced in any medium ever for so many reasons, eclipsing my previous favorite final fantasy stories in ff7 and ff10. I honestly can't even imagine how any future final fantasy will even come close to topping the story of Shadowbringers and Endwalker. Maybe if they have Ishikawa as a lead writer for ff17 or something...
Or wait a bit more so that it's ready when Dawntrail comes out.
Awh yeah, years of waiting have all come together for this video. A good, two hour long romp throughout one of my favorite mmos.
As someone who's never played an MMO, just watching this game's success from the sidelines, this was a very informative video, it made me understand where that success came from and why people keep coming back to it, and why Johnny's so addicted to it. Fantastic work, this is the top-quality Clement content that I look forward to now.
Welcome back man I’ve been looking forward to this review dude
Man, these retrospectives are some of the best content on this site. Keep doing you, Clement.
Regarding Role Anxiety: Yeah, that's definitely a thing for healers and tanks. I'm getting better as a Tank, but I'm still nervous thanks to the way people pull enemies. I'm better with Healers and DPS overall. As a side note though, DPS are also pushed to handle side mechanics as well since there are two of you. Take the way that the final boss of Sastasha works for example. Sometimes extra enemies can jump up from hatches around the arena. The DPS's job during that fight is to keep an eye on those hatches and interact with them when the water beneath them starts bubbling. Do it within the time frame the game gives you? That's one less enemy to worry about. Run out of time and you get an extra monster to deal with. Now, the dungeon is so low level that most parties will just focus on the boss and power through, but that sort of thing can still happen with later dungeons. The DPS roles will frequently have to turn their attention away from the boss to handle those side mechanics.
I honestly don't understand tankxiety or healxiety... Especially the former when it comes to extreme or higher level content. Now healer anxiety certainly plays a part in that, considering I have to balance healing and dealing damage. And to be fair, I've played this game so much, I've maxed all the levels on all the jobs, including crafting and gathering. Because I could. So that might explain why I have no anxiety. I just wish healers would be a little more active in trying to deal damage.
Just do it. Anxiety about what? Nothing in the game punishes the player in instanced content. If you fuck up, it'll just send you back maybe 2 minutes and some people might cry in chat. Who cares?
@@christiantaylor1083 Some more agreeable personality types worry about disappointing others. It might not be rational with people you'll likely never see again, but still a thing.
I'm glad someone's mentioned the anxiety aspect of these games LMAO. As someone with pretty bad social anxiety, the fear of having other players rely on me, and possibly fail because of me, has been one of the biggest barriers for me to get into mmos.
This is why I never got into MMO’s. I played the free trial for this and towards the end of it I started getting into the late game dungeons where you can’t get away with just spamming whatever and being carried by other players. I’d get yelled at or kicked from parties for not doing the right rotations and not playing the game with a guide pulled up on my other monitor. That’s when I decided not to renew my membership. I was having a ton of fun when I could just go around by myself doing minor story stuff and interacting with people on the world map but having to interact with anyone in the dungeons just ruined it for me. It was a fun month, but I haven’t been back since.
@@jamesbrincefield9879 Sheesh, no one should experience that. My condolences. I hope you do come back and find a friendlier community though, cause that isn't my experience.
@@hickknight this was back around the launch of ARR so I’m sure it’s a much different place now. I didn’t know it at the time I joined but I later found out I was in a server that had a reputation for not being beginner-friendly. If I would have done more research on that instead of just jumping in I probably could have had a better time with the game.
This is why I choose DQX of all MMORPGs. I use the Language barrier as an excuse to functionally play it as though it's just a normal JRPG.
Literally no one gives a shit, just play. Only you're stopping you.
I think I can say for everyone that Clement's avatar in FF14 looks awesome and badass.
Dude, if you ever play this game, somehow everything you wear makes you look kinda badass. Haha
I agree on Haurchefaunt. I actually forgot about him for a long while and everyone seems so shocked when I bring that up
Great stuff man. Can’t wait to see what you do next!
What another incredible video Clement, thank you again.
I'm so glad to hear someone actually giving attention to the Hildebrand quest line in a video
I love how once the tank anxiety leaves, you feel like the single most badass mother goose. Play it long enough and you'll end up switching to a healer or DPS and trying to pull enmity from everything on earth
As a healer being able to take the first few auto attacks can make some pulls better honestly
Great to see a new video, and I really like this format! I’m really curious about the next FFXV one!
Great vid as always, bud 😊
I was scared this was gonna be a look at the entire FFXIV experience up to Endwalker but with everything else you're doing to make this 'behemoth', going up to the end of the Free Trial is nice and spoiler free enough for me. I started playing the free trial with friends around March and was having a great time, now 8 months later I'm on the cusp of starting Shadowbringers and I'm the only one still playing regularly. I'm glad I went to look at this game again despite being an MMO, my first MMO at that, I dismissed it orginally after the dissapointment I had playing the 13 trilogy and hearing the terrible reviews of 1.0 made me think "Yeah this is why they shouldn't try doing another MMO, focus on the real FF games". Boy was I wrong to doubt it, what a magnificant turnaround ARR and the expansions have been, the world, story, characters and expecially the MUSIC, it's deserving of a place among the best FF games in my opinion right now.
Yoooo the next part! Excited.
IVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS!!! ❤️❤️
clement i love all your retrospective videos but im sorry cant watch this one fully as i really wanna play the game and cant atm but i appreciate all the effort you poured into this video! i'll come back to it once i finally play the game, til then much love and take care my dude
I- holy smokes it finally happened to me. KZhead didn't notify me that you uploaded even tho I have notifications on. Welp, good thing I got popcorn with me xD
I literally checked the channel 2 days ago after a long time to see if this video is up. Talk about a hunch.
I love how incredibly easy to understand Clements explanations for all of these "Remembers" videos are. Back then I also started as a Bard and had the exact same experience, creating my hotbar, changing layouts and learning my rotation. FF14 is so incredibly versatile with everything
Yeeeeeees!! Love these reviews clement!
Aw man I’ve been waiting for this
Dude as a Fellow FF14 player on PS4 its nice to see someone talk about it on there for once! dope POV
A pleasure to watch as always
You have no idea how long i have been anticipating this video.
You've convinced me to check it out Clement.
Aloha!!! Welcome back Clement. This is just such fun to watch. I really need to get back to FF14.
1:04:39 Juan Ortiz… you got some explaining to do.
Holy shit! What an amazing video!
another great vid Clement ^^ Curious though: You've namedropped it a couple times in this series, would you think of doing a series like this for Kingdom Hearts? It'd be interesting to hear your opinions on that series ^^
I WAS WAITING FOR A NEW VIDEO!!
Sweet. Another FF video. I can't wait to hear your opinion on 15!
This is it. This is the FF game that got me into the series. I only started just a few months ago but this game already gave me so many memories I look back on, both in the MSQ and in the social experience.
This Final Fantasy basically carried the franchise through the 2010s. Between the not-very-good XIII trilogy and the unfinished XV, the series was in a downward spiral.
dude XV was fantastic. it never felt lacking
@@randomboys1000 Also, people actually do like the XIII trilogy, despite being the most infamous games in the series.
13 and 15 might not be well received, but they sold pretty well.
GAH I CANT BELIEVE I MISSED THIS IN MY UPLOADS thanks youtube, not like ive been looking forward to this one for years
I am so glad to just watch like a whole movie's length of a dude talking about what's probably one of my most favorite games of all time, and yeah your consensus of the whole thing is pretty accurate. I started playing around the time Stormblood came out because they removed the time limit on the free trial. The thing that kept me interested was the job system allowing me to switch on the fly rather than create a new character which eased my commitment anxiety, but I do agree that it was definitely the community that really cemented me into it. I'm not even that social of a player. I don't really seek out big group events and I'm too nervous to DM randos but aside from the occasional dickweed the community is genuinely awesome. The online game I played the most often before FFXIV was Overwatch, which as you know is super toxic, so in my first dungeon I was terrified that every other player would berate me for existing but well, no. They were chill, informed me of boss mechanics (and how to cheese the last one), and showed me when to use my limit break. And it was like this for almost every other duty after, without the bullshit toxicity I was so used to. I even got to experience a role reversal where instead I was the only veteran in a duty where everyone else was a sprout and I got to teach them everything that my first party taught me. Never saw the three of them again, but it makes me so happy to continue being the reason people play this game. Stuff like that is honestly why I get so excited whenever I get to interact with a friendly sprout. It makes me so happy to show them the ropes and see them spam in party chat when something cool happens. And since Endwalker's coming out next month, plus the mass exodus of players leaving World of Warcraft, well you can imagine my level of hype.
Wow Clement. Your hot takes about Heavensward and Stormblood are exactly the same as mine always have been lmao. First time I’ve heard someone echo my thoughts
I have no words for how happy this makes me 😊
This may be a old video but even though i havent played 14 i just enjoy how they had a Questline dedicated to Final Fantasy Tactics and its so cool and even though its like a alternate timeline in a sense i enjoy how they bring back the most memorable characters of Tactics Agiras, Mustadio, Ramza, Delita, Argath(Algus in the og ps1version) and others that i might not remember. I enjoy the story of that questline and even the nostalgic music and references to Tactics. If you havent already you should try and take on the questline with your friends
The song "Answers" with the wonderful Susan Calloway in that trailer back in 2012 was EPIC! Stoked that my fav FF game is up next. I've been following that since 2006.
You're awesome, man.
Instead of making let’s plays Clement’s just straight up making films
And that's now basically his channel's future.
Or rather videos where he talks about games.
1:04:40 🎶Forward and back and then forward and back~. And then go forward and back, then put one. Foot. FOR-WARD~!🎶 XD Thanks guy once more for introducing me to FFXIV's "Exponential Entropy".
Clement is exactly on my level. I understand ARR isn't ground breaking but it certainly has its stand-out moments that make it an enjoyable story to play through; the community sells it far too short! Likewise, Heavensward is hyped to hell and back so I was playing through it just waiting for it to get great. What I'm seeing is GOOD but you promised me GREAT!
ehh imo Heavensward is stellar from characters and parallels to thematics to gameplay encounters etc. while ARR is just ok/meh compared to the xpacs aside from gameplay encounters, BCOB, and like 3 story moments + the refugee plots
In February FFXIV the complete edition was on sale in Steam for $20. I've been playing ever since, and as a long time Final Fantasy fan, I've been loving every second.
Clement is honestly one of the greatest KZheadrs ever
The time has come 🙏
FFXIV and PSO/NGS basically became my mainstay when it comes to genre. Very looking forward to Endwalker
A nice detail is that Nael van Darnus who masterminded the Meteor Project is the Legatus of the 7th Legion of the Empire, referencing FF7
When we needed him the most, he returned.
1:27:21 clement, you have made a very powerless enemy this day, a very. Powerless. Enemy.
...damn it, Clement, you got me addicted to this game... I've heard my friends talk about how good this game is for a while and while I was curious, I didn't wanna fall back into the MMO hole again... But you've convinced me... And now I'm having a blast. Currently on the free trial, which in these Endwalker days makes it hard to find time to play since the servers are constantly full, but the time I have played is super enjoyable! I've only had sparse experiences with FF, namely 7, but 14 makes me wanna play the rest of the series. Hell, the enjoyment I have makes me wanna get the full game even before I finish Heavensward, even though my friends recommend against it. I just wanna play more and it's all your fault. Thanks a lot, Clement. xP In all seriousness, thanks for this video and showing me this fun game. :D
1:11:14 There I am, I'm in that group shot.
Amazing you got this released two weeks before Endwalker comes out. If that expansion is good enough, it might just make 14 overtake the top spot for my favorite Final Fantasy game
my favorite job in this game is Red Mage. especially after dealing with the slog that is Thaumaturge and Black Mage with their eternity long wind up times, the quick and brutal damage output of Red Mage was a breath of fresh air. Plus it has the best vpose emote, dont @ me
We're finally making it to our most recent numbered title next. Final Fantasy XV was my first game in the series. It was because I had so much fun with it that I decided to go back and experience the series in its heyday. I love X and VII to bits and plan to play IX soon. With that said, I can't wait for you to either be someone who actually likes XV or tear into it like Cup Noodles. Should be interesting.
He has mentioned he doesnt think highly of it. Which depresses me. I get its flawed. But I at least liked the story and characters. Ignis especially.
I started this game thanks to the video, was not aware of the free trial. I'm only 10 hours in, so I don't have a good sense of the overall experience yet. The only thing with MMOs is that I have a hard time making friends, I guess I don't really chat much to meet people. I really should try though
One of these days I'm gonna have to bite the bullet and get this game, but I fear my life will vanish if I descend into MMO Hell. I haven't actually played any MMOs, but I know from RPGs with a similar gameplay loop that FF14 would be right up my alley. If I suddenly disappear from real life one day, it'll probably be because I joined the catboy army.
Looking forward to your take on 15, also shame you gave up LP's. Would've loved to see how you handled Banjo-Tooie.
Nice Video thx
This is an awesome video
Finally Fantasy with Clement!
Well you're almost done with this retrospective. (At least caught up anyway.) Looking forward to seeing ff15 which I'm most curious about since I'm debating if I want to play that or not and ff7 remake part 1 which ik it's good since I already played it many times.
Oh how I love to live vicariously through the eyes of a newbie… although, I started playing XIV after this video was released, and I can tell since some of the stuff OP is doing works different, got completely changed or even removed… but still, I remember being anxious as a healer and tank… when I started getting frustrated at the long que times for dps jobs so I tried healing… god was that what I call a trial by fire…
1:35:00 That band is performing "Bonds of Sea and Fire" from XENOGEARS! Good Lord, this is nuts!
Ahhhh it’s here
FF is such an awesome series!!! So is this video!!!
Excuse my language, but... What a fucking game. That whole section about anxiety playing anything other than DPS, I felt that. But you know what? Leveling my Dark Knight to level 80 has been the most fun in the entire game. It just feels. so. good when you get it right, it feels great to pretect your team, in time the anxiety just melts away, and instead of feeling like a hindrance, you'll feel like a hero, speerheading your group to victory. About ARR being a slog to get through. It.... kinda was. But they've trimmed it down severely, the pacing is so much better now! So many new great changes has been made since I started playing. The simple fact that you now can fly your mounts in the ARR-environments when you couldn't before is amazing! Amazing video of one of my absolute favourite games ever. 1:05:15 And you HAD to make me cry, didn't you??? D':
I find it funny that you brought up most of the Garleans having white hair when the circle of knowing/scions of the 7th dawn are the same.
I never played this game but it must be good from your explanation thank you great clementj64 ps i liked the tommy Jarvis refrence
Though knowing how villains like Kefka, Exdeath Dark Cloud and etc have appeared. It would've been interesting to have the main protags of each FF appear as a team of super bosses
I'll have to play this at some point, but every time I consider I think about all the non-MMO RPG's and other games I have on Switch and Steam that I haven't played, and I get anxiety when I think about how much bigger it could get if I did start playing.
Finally getting around to watching this: Can someone tell me the names of all the songs in the music segment?
I've got a more technical question. How much storage space does FF14 ARR take up?
You said you were going to have a video on Sonic Colors Ultimate. When will you do it after you finish the final fantasy games?
Lmaoo yoooo. You're on Diabolos too, I recognize a few of the player names from your Gridania shots
One of the major themes in 14 is Redemption, and of course it is, as they would be hypocrites if they couldn't see the potential good in other people.
Next time on Clement Remembers Final Fantasy: • Final Fantasy VS XIII (now Final Fantasy XV) • Final Fantasy VII Remake
Was surprised to see that you mentioned DCUO at the start. Honestly, as jank as DCUO was, I surprisingly had my fun with it for the half year I played After watching, now I just really want to play again. And from the start since I want to experience the ARR storyline once more
15:17 Tell me about it, those little guys are so dangerous, it makes them petty enough to block you out of winning one very specific competition. Imagine playing the Online mode in Sonic Generations and some guy makes it his mission to keep you from getting 1st place in the 30 second trial of one specific stage and only that stage. That's the kind of petty that we're talking about.
Aay you’re in Diabolos too, maybe we’ll have a chance at running into Clement online. I’d probably just say hi. Good retrospective, can’t wait to see Clement saying “one more raid, one more dungeon, one more boss-“
LET'S GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Played FFXIV 1.0 and finished everything even the new Endwalker but after all those years fatigue set in hard. It differently is worth getting into it the music, story and even boss fights are the most epic things ever.
1:04:24 -- What song is that? It's really damn catchy!
"oblivion", the shiva extreme boss theme
Actually when playing with friends you can go in as whatever you want. You just have to select unsync, and min item level if you still want to do it for real.
I still haven’t played final fantasy 14 but I did the reboot ff14 realm reborn was really good.
