Eurovision has kicked out the Netherlands' entrant following a controversy over an 'incident' he was involved in.
Joost Klein was alleged to have made verbal threats to a female production worker at the event's venue in Malmo, Sweden, on Thursday night.
Eurovision organisers said: "We would like to make it clear that, contrary to some media reports and social media speculation, this incident did not involve any other performer or delegation member.
"We maintain a zero-tolerance policy towards inappropriate behaviour at our event and are committed to providing a safe and secure working environment for all staff at the contest. In light of this, Joost Klein's behaviour towards a team member is deemed in breach of contest rules."

  • At the end of his performance, he gives a salute to his father. And because that’s an emotional thing for him, he has requested not to be filmed upon leaving the stage. But after the semi finals performance, a camerawoman was filming him. He requested repeatedly to stop, but she didn’t. He then made a threatening gesture to the camera, bit didn’t touch her. Still, she filed a complaint (guess her ego got in the way). The police investigated the story but closed their investigation. Still, the EBU decided to disqualify. Ik hope the recording comes out, so everyone can see what actually happened. And for an organisation claiming that the rules are so important, they didn’t respect his request for not filming after his performance.

My best bet is that some snowflake in production couldn't handle Dutch directness and went crying with her boss. I'm also saying now that he probably did say something that in our language would be harmless. And got translated the wrong way. Swedish authorities will have nothing to prosecute with. And this case will be dropped next week. Probably Wednesday. And the whole of Eurovision got ruined for the Dutch people. Can we then complain to the EBU? Or what? The harm is done. There was an agreement that no pictures of him would be taken by ESC. An employee did it nonetheless, Joost made a gesture that he didn't like this, this was not agreed. He didn't even touch her. This is so unfair. I hope the fans will turn the show into a fiasco by constantly shouting the chorus and shouting Europapa. Booing, whistling for 4 hours. What a disgrace. • The decision by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) to withhold footage of Joost's alleged "threatening movement" has only fueled further speculation and confusion. Releasing this footage could have clarified the situation, potentially exonerating the artist and demonstrating that the decision to disqualify him was unrelated to this incident. Instead, it appears the disqualification may be tied more closely to Joost's controversial remark about Israels participation in the song contest. During a press conference, a Polish journalist asked the Israeli contestant, Golan, whether she thought her participation might pose a security risk to others, given Israel's ongoing military actions in Gaza, referencing the pro-Palestinian rallies in Malmo during the Eurovision Song Contest. Swedish presenter Jovan Radomir quickly intervened, informing Golan that she doesn't have to answer this question. It was at this moment that Joost Klein, interjected with a simple "Why not?", that challenged the avoidance of this delicate subject. This indicated his support for transparency and dialogue on difficult topics. His disqualification followed shortly after this interaction, not immediately after the alleged threatening gesture made days earlier toward a crew member. Additionally, if a formal complaint has been filed with Swedish police, the EBU should have allowed the legal process to conclude before taking action. Presuming innocence until proven guilty is a fundamental principle that should have guided their actions.
