The ASUS ROG Zephyrus G14 has a different look this year, but it's just one of the many upgrades that ASUS have put in to really support the gaming experience. While the specs with the AMD Ryzen 9 and RTX 4060 are familiar, an OLED display with VRR and better speakers could be the pushes that make this update something to consider. Come see what worked and what didn't with the ASUS Zephyrus G14 (2024)!

Since no reviewer has pointed this out, I'd like to inform ppl from my own experience with an ROG laptop with a MUX switch that when you unplug and expect armory crate to turn off the dGPU to save power, it often fails due to many windows processes still using it and you'd have to manually go into armory crate to stop them and do the switch. When you do plug back in, Nvidia still runs in "optimus" mode (display signal buffers thru iGPU), limiting power and G-sync options. Nvidia does offer an "auto select" option ("Nvidia GPU only" when in game and "optimus" otherwise) but when you unplug, armory crate would still notify you that it cannot overwrite this "auto select" setting. You'd need to specifically and manually choose "optimus" for armory crate to turn off the dGPU.
I love that some brand understood that not everybody who play games want a spaceship. This was always my biggest turn off for laptops, having a gpu used to mean it would look like a spaceship. This looks just as good as a macbook.
I got my 2024 G14 about a month ago, same config as yours in this video. I can confirm pretty much everything you mentioned and I'm happy with my purchase. The 16gb soldered isn't a huge dealbreaker for me, as I don't do a lot of heavy duty graphical work - whenever I'm editing video for work, I do it on an overpowered desktop rig at home. I did do some light editing on DVR while traveling (mostly just some small tweaks to existing projects) and I did not experience a lot of lag or stuttering. Audio editing for radio and podcasts works without a hitch. Casual gaming on older titles is fantastic on the OLED screen, for recent triple A titles I have to turn down the settings to high - not really a big deal, as the small OLED screen is super crisp and has great, bright colors. Watching 3K or 4K videos is amazing; can't see myself going back to a non-OLED panel after this. Normal productivity like writing, spreadsheets, emails and browsing is a breeze. Finally, battery time is not bad at all; depending on the task I get anywhere between 6 and 9 hours. Overall, I think this is a solid model. As you mentioned: it's not perfect, but for the first gen of a completely redesigned G14 I think it largely succeeds.
The usb c port, does it not allow for charging at all?
What about screen.wpbbling and fan noises do they exist and is a problem? Thank you in advance
@@PromikesThe screen wobble is minimal (also I don’t understand why we even consider screen wobble, it’s a non-issue in my book) and the fans are audible, but not very distracting. I’ve heard much worse.
@@user-lg8fy3zs5dThe one on the left supports charging, the one on the right doesn’t.
@@Promikesnot an issue. It’s a desk laptop. If you use it on your lap: get a tablet
I cannot thank you enough for mentioning the efficiency of using the APU instead of the dGPU, for pointing out that the G14 can switch by connecting/disconnecting and that is comparable with the ROG Ally. Eye openning details. Also thanks for not forgetting the Power adapter size. Also, looking for Zephyrus and Strix etimology was a great cherry on top. Awesome video 😏👍

Best G14 review I have seen on KZhead. Waiting for G16 review.
The choice of KZhead clips and anime absolutely killed me in this review! 🤣 A man of culture!
Can i ask what usb C docking station you use? And does it have dual monitor output?
Appreciate the detailed review!! I'm actually thinking of the G16 for simply the size. I prefer viewing something a little larger.
I just received the (2024) G14 with 4060. It plays everything I have thrown at it at highest levels without problems. Awesome screen with super slim bezels, comfortable RGB keyboard, thin and light.... It has exceeded my expectations. Initially, I didn't think I would like the silver with white keyboard but it's actually quite elegant.
Hey, if u could tell me, i heard people have disliked the 16 gb of ram on the g14. Is it actually an issue or just a minor inconvenience? Thx
@@nohackersincasualcsgo it hasn’t been an inconvenience for me. In fact, i haven’t even noticed it.
@@Michael-iy8ji i see. If u can, one more question, how is the graphics card? Heard some people calling the 4060 bad or sth and i was curious if it does the job
@@nohackersincasualcsgo i only have three games on my laptop but it plays all of them at maximum settings flawlessly. Far Cry 3 Sniper - Ghost Warrior Homeland
Are the fans loud? that's the one thing stopping me from getting it over something like a Macbook.
I've decided to get the 2024 G14, just hoping I'll be able to get it on sale in the next couple months!
It will be dropping to 1450 every month or so on a rotation with the g16 dropping to 1750 :) (this is for the base models of each so 16gb 4060 for g14 and 16gb 4070 for g16)
@@Hunter77840 I saw that first sale, I decided to take advantage of it and get an open-box in excellent condition for ~1.3k! Let's hope for the best.
Does your config Asus sent you support windows HDR? You mention Dolby vision in your video but was not sure on windows HDR.
Great video as always. Potential advice if you're sticking with this, is that the USB4 port on the left supports the same bandwidth as TB4 (40Gbs) so "most" TB4 will have a successful handshake and accept the USB4 port and it also runs up to 100W PD and supports pass-through so leave it in Performance Mode which you will miss out on around 2% CPU (multi-thread) and 10% GPU compared to Turbo/Manual but I'd prefer that and keep a one-cable solution. Cheers.
could you also go with a usb-c charger of 100W and skip out on the 180 brick if your okay with performance mode always?
One observation: for video content creators that don't utilise micro-sd's might not be ideal , but for ppl that use action cams a lot its perfect. I want with me in the field the thinnest package possible and the ability to just pull the micro SD card from a camera and put it fast into the laptop in order to empty the content. The extended battery life ,lets say compared to a Blade 14, also helps when on the go. You kinda want to previsualize your stuff on the go and when the temperatures are cold, lets say 10 C or below , every bit of battery life helps. Nice little review anyways!! Cheers! 😉
How do you find it for video editing? And what is the battery life like for general office work (Google Docs) and KZhead playing in the background?
Hoping for the next year iteration they would fix the high pitched noise (ditch the third fan and use vapor chamber like the old g14), tighten the screen hinge, and a bonus to use usb-c charger.
Okay the third fan noise is barely noticeable. The screen hinge issue does not even make any logical sense because if it was any tighter then it could very well have hinge issues just with how light the screen is. The 2024 g14 USB C bypasses the battery when charging it as has been discovered on reddit.
Love the video. Would appreciate if you put timestamps as well !
What monitor would you recommend that could do double duty for content creation and gaming. Doesn’t have to be crazy gaming specs
very nice video and voice editing. One question toward the end of the video about the lack of TB4, that is my main concern. is the lack of fully charging the laptop the only issue or even if it was fully charged, USB4 is inferior to TB4 for dock connectivity? Also, are there TB4 docks that can deliver 180 watts of power? for instance, I understand CalDigit TS4+ can only power up to 98watts. what I am getting at, is that I am not sure even with TB4 you would enjoy the full power without the dedicated adapter.
I don’t think you can transfer 180 watt in the form of usb c at the moment Tb5 could have the potential for 240w, but it’s not for tomorrow
@@LeRatVisseur thanks. but then Joshua critique at around 14minutes is really not accurate. if I heard him correctly, he implies the lack of TB4 prevents this from getting charged from the hub. but it wont get charged anyway even if it was thunderbolt. correct?
@@DanielRodriguez-fg5ll I am not 100% certain and this is to be confirmed Basically tb4 = intel and usb 4 = amd and have very similar functionalities USB 4 can only provide around 100w which is not enough for this laptop, so you need to have a dedicated cable to power the laptop (monitor and periphericals should work via a dock on the usb 4 port) Tb4 have higher transfer speeds than usb 4 but still cannot transfer more power (100w) than usb 4, so having tb4 on this laptop wouldn’t solve this problem ( since the laptop simply draw too much power for that type of connectivity) Tb5 could enable 240w of transfer I repeat that I am not very familiar with tb and usb 4 specifications, this was what I understood when I searched for a laptop about 2 years ago
My 2021 G14 lasted for years until I broke it. Finally a reason to upgrade. This 2024 model totally looks worth it. I got really tired of the FHD display, and seeing that the 2024 model has QHD and OLED and smaller bezels while still maintaining optimal performance in gaming is phenomenal. And the fact that they made it slimmer, sleeker, and lighter is fantastic too. I never had issues with 16gb in the old model either. I mean for only a few hundred dollars more than what I got the 2021 model for, and almost the same price considering Best Buy's sale price...why not get this thing? Especially paired with a carrying case and/or cooling pad, I guarantee you can't beat this for the price and size if your priority is gaming and consuming media! Btw, I think the laptop speakers sounded better than the soundcore speaker, at least through video audio lol.
Can those smudges on the lid be wiped off or is that actual damage from taking it in and out of your bag?
it can be cleaned off mostly........
Planning to get this laptop, but with 32gb. I'm actually surprised that there's a variant with 32gb. May I ask if this is already enough?
Solid advice. Seems a good mid-range to premium gaming laptop in the thinner and lighter sector. It is expensive. e.g. in the UK, it is £2400 for 32GB/1TB/R9/4070. Still cheaper than the M3 Pro MB Pro 14 with 36GB/1TB but closer than it has ever been at a £300 difference, and looking online you can get the MB with a £250 discount. Of course, if you are buying for gaming then the ASUS would be the best choice, but for pro users with no OS preference, I would still prefer the MB for its better battery life, lower fan noise, cooler running, better speakers, and has comparable performance and display.
Gaming in Macbook Pro sucks. Even on M3.
Hi, please, one question, how is the experience editing with davinci in a 14¨ screen?
how does this compare to the ASUS zenbook 14 OLED?
Is it good enough for video editing at 4k 60 fps?
can i use it for after effects in the 16gb version my task are mostly geolayers with 1080p videos for mapping and studies
What laptop is best for gaming and editing
Does the USB C support dual monitor output??
Screen wobbling and possible OLED burn-in after 12 months. That's why the OLED warranty is one year...
The 3050 variant here still costs a 1000 dollars in local currency. It's insane. I feel like a sucker getting it
If those aren’t fingerprints and is actual damage to the finish from friction then that’s pretty concerning. I like this laptop and I tried it myself but the aluminum feels like builder’s grade…something you’d get from Lowe’s. It doesn’t feel as premium as a MBP.
I'd say it's not as premium a material as a MacBook, definitely. But it's still an appreciated upgrade to me
I love this model but for some reason i cannot find it on my country official asus site. They only have g16 and g18. The only places that sell it are retailers and holy 2200$ for a rtx4050 32gb ram.
I guess it depends on region but here in Canada we have a 4060 variant with 32gb for $400 less than the 4070 32gb. Coming from a 2021 G14 with 3050 Ti, that is more than enough of an upgrade for me. Although, I still wouldn't do it yet since my G14 is still excellent for using at the office for a full day without charge (10 hours) and can run most games at 1080p max settings
I'd honestly prefer a cheaper 4060 with 32gb of RAM over a 4070 with 16gb of RAM. That 32gb is going to be crucial to future-proof it more than the small jump from 4060 to 4070.
how does the screen compare to a Galaxybook OLED?
I was actually debating between the 4070 version of this and the 2023 4090 version with miniled. Went with the 2023 version which should be delivered in a few days. I still get fomo when i see that gorgeous oled screen and the the design of the 2024 version
Why not the G16 with a 4080/4090 instead? I have a zenbook pro 14 with the same oled, it is amazing. But a good Miniled has its own benefits - like higher brightness.
@@Havanu81 I wanted the small form factor because probability is important to me. I'm also using this to replace my PS5 (and a few other systems that I'm selling) but I'd like to comfortably play on my TV in 4k so I think honestly just need to get over this OLED thing. I am probably gonna get one of the 4k OLED 32 inch 4k monitors for my desktop so that'll satisfy that itch lol
How’s the fan noise in silent?
The title is more suitable if this is about Linux testing
Torn with this and the X13. Looks-wise this wins but function-wise Flow X13 just hate how it looks compared to this!
I'm a bit confused, when I bought mine a week ago the store said it only has a 16GB RAM w/ a 4060, but when I turned it on for the first time it had a 32GB and a 4060.
Maybe you have 2023 version.
@@unbreakableironman nah, mine has oled and the light strip so no question 2024 model
Is there any fan noise during light use such as web surfing or watching KZhead?
0db fan noise, I got one. Fan doesn’t spin at all in light use
aye! abroad in japan and yakuza!! i hella fuck w this guy!
So if I got it correct the version with 4070 which also comes with 16gb of ram is upgradable to 32gb of ram ?
No, AFAIK the RAM is not upgradeable.
Next up is Asus Zenbook Duo 2024 with "Too Much Volcano" 😂
What about battery life?
It looks like business gaming laptop you know. It seems very aesthetic design with more professional looking but still showing of to be a gamer.
The fingerprints/smudges on the top case tho...
After watching this video, I’m glad I just purchased the 2023 model. I love the design and aesthetics of the 2024 but the lack of upgradable ram or a 32gb version with the 4060 is really the deal breaker for me. Plus the back vents don’t seem to be exhausting as much as the laptop needs. I really like the “ergo” lift of the 2023 version too assisting in the cooling and a better typing angle.
Check out the 2024 Vivobook 15 Pro. Less flashy than the G14, but has the specs you're looking for.
I love the 2023 design. It’s more futuristic
Just mentioning that the screen wobble was quite noticeable when you were opening or adjusting the lid and even while just repositioning the laptop on the desk. Kinda makes me concerned about the hinge.
And its just annoying to work with. I had a Gigabyte laptop with screen wobble once, drove me insane to the point where I had to return it.
Doctor Jelly!
with ai all laptops will have to more or less become “gaming laptops” simply for the gpu usage etc so it make sense that the zephyrus is basicallly transitioning into a beefy zenbook from an aesthetic pov
we want a ips version of this one at cheaper price
Waiting for black friday so that i can pick 4060 version for $1k lol
What’s the god of broken wind?
would have bought the 4060 variant but 16GB is disrespectful. don't need the 4070 but do need 32GB of RAM
Dr. Jellyyyyyyyy!!!!!
Form factor is really nice. but still the lenovo legion for me
mind sharing why? I'm torn between this and lenovo legion 5
@@alben1703 better price and cooling system (less noise more cooling) imo. g14 had finishing issues in the past so idk if it still does on this newer model. drawback for legion is its weight even before carrying charging brick. but you must carry one since its battery life is average for a gaming laptop.
The propriety charging port seems to be a deal breaker for me. Just make the charging port USB C.
Well if the TUF A15 has a USB charging port, definitely this too has.
You can charge it via USB c but not at 180 watts
@@DivvayKhatri thanks. I noticed this in other videos
I just wish they still had Mini-LED. I don't want a screen with a limited lifespan from burn in on a laptop.
Screw the laptop. I want that speaker😅😅😅
i just dont get why i cant get black..i dont want a skin lol
Would be cool if it were in stock
I can never get used to 14". 16" for life😅
YES. Gunning for the 2024 G16 rn
I was looking forward to upgrading from my older G14 to a 2024 model. Nope! The new look is hideous and the thermals are bad. The new third fan now runs continuously and it struggles to cool even a 4070. Decided to go for a 2023 model that was on disccount.
i did the same - scored the 2023 4060 version for $999 at BB
I disagree
I hate the slash.
You didn't mention the annoying, high pitched fan noise. is this an Ad or what?
Not an ad, I would have said so if it was. I honestly didn't really notice a high pitch. To my brain, it's just a loud fan and I'm used to that in any gaming PC. Probably didn't bother me because I often play with headphones or as part of a desktop rig that includes box speakers
@@jvtechteaoh okay. maybe Asus turned down the RPM of the small middle Fan.
so no one will take about that screen wapling
miCROsd reader on a 2024 laptop is hate crime at this point
Honestly this year Rog phone and zephyrus laptop completely lost their identity. Now it's just some kind of MacBook clone. I really hope they'll make only USB charging (because power delivery supports 200W) next year. For now, I'll stay with my 2022 model
Bad performance for the price. Fans are loud. They could of easily kept the same thickness. But nope they need to make a worse laptop. Who even asked for a thinner laptop? NOBODY its a gaming laptop.
The design is horrible but the oled screen looks great
- That LED stripe is LAME AF. - The soldered RAM (without ability to add RAM) is LAME AF - The DOWNGRADE ON GPU (and stagnant CPU option) is also LAME AF. - DOLLAR STORE MACBOOK LOOK IS LAME/CHEESE AF. - ARMOURY CRATE (of late) is LAME AF. THIS IS A DOWNGRADE AT A HIGHER PRICE! I'm saying this as a purchaser/user of the last last three iterations.
I dig mine. I disable the slash lighting. Have the 4070 model. It is so much cooler and less noisy than the 2023 model. I’m not looking to power a ship to the moon. I want something comfortable. You’re lame.
I can’t stand “more on that in a bit”. Stop delaying information for the sake of hearing one ramble.
It's very compact. I like it. Just got it. It's not as powerful for video editing like the MacBook Pro is. Well, the M3 Pro and Max are. It'll play games, I play Forza when I do play, don't always have time for it. I use it for work on the go and for mainly video editing. Just drop to 30fps and that'll chew through that, don't understand why it's dropping frames doing 4K60 videos.
