Got my 2023 g14 4060 yesterday for $880 Open Box from Best Buy. I love it already. Build quality was a lot nicer in person than I thought it would be.

@@lo-op trackpad is very nice. Feels solid and tracks well over the glass, MacBook tracking without the haptic clicks. I will say I turned the tracking speed all the way down bc it was so fast but that’s personal preference.
Just got mine today for $880 Open Box about an hour ago. I would LOVE the 2024, but for about half the price the 2023 can't be beat.
The new design is minimal and still keeps the ROG slash identity. A sleek upgrade indeed!

Really like the 2024 back design (the \ in the back), but $999 (2023) vs $1599 (2024) made me chose 2023, I mean I can spend the rest of money on buying 32gb ram and 2tb ssd etc, none the less great review man

@@johnjc1680 Just posted above. The thermals on the 2024 are reported to be much worse than the 2023 model. This is why ASUS limited the g14 to the RTX4070. Due to the new 2024 thickness constraints ASUS had to remove the vapor chamber and insert a 3rd fan (which is where the 2023's RAM slot was). It's also been widely reported that the 2024 fan noise is much worse.
Is there a specific SKU with 2 M.2 slots? All the teardowns I've seen say it has only 1 slot.
No. There isn't any space for it. I don't believe they ever offered 2 slots. I have a 2021 g14 and it doesn't have that option nor the space for a second drive.
Bought a 2024 yesterday after seeing the worn out plastic on 2023 display models. Oled screen is phenomenal. Expensive when fully loaded but open box 2023 is great value for money at $800-900. 2024 is double that.
Ben, there is a huge sale going on in UK on Legion 7i 2024, I bit the bullet and purchased one, hopefully your review wont make me return it, the price with 1 year accident protection came to around £1890, which was the same price as the 2023 version before it got removed from website in December

It's been widely reported that the 2024 is significantly louder than the 2023. Additionally, even when running in quiet mode you still hear the fans.
I wonder what it means to have a 500-1000 point GAP in those [Puget] Benchmarks. Maybe it only translates to 1sec faster/slower and we give it too much importance....? 🤔🤔

Due to the industry seeing a down trend in sales they could go on sale earlier than the fall. Keep an eye on your favorite retailer (or my favorite Best Buy) for sales.

Because it's superior, 13" is too small and 15" is not much bigger than 14".
16 Is best for a gaming laptop
Check out the new Eluktronics Max 15. It's essentially like the Lenovo Legion but at 15.3" (still 16:10) instead of 16". Eluktronics isn't selling it yet but XMG, essentially the European version of Eluktronics, sells that laptop with the AMD HS CPUs instead of Intel. Still has a 99Whr battery. Only downside for me is it tops at a 4070
16” 16:10 fits in the same chassis as 15” 16:9
My Zephyrus M16 is a 16" but its still portable enough cuz the body of the laptop is a 15". It uses a 16:10 ratio which makes them achieve a bigger screen but retain a small body instead of judt making the laptop bigger.
There's a rtx 4070, 120hz, 1tb, 16bg ram 2024 at best buy for $1,599 on sale for like $1350 right now. I had a 2021 g14 with only a FHD display. Finally broke it. So I think 2024 for almost the same price and nicer features is totally worth it. Knowing it will last at least a few more years

Bestbuy does NOT have the 4090 2023 G14 on sale anymore (at least in the US). It is back to $3299. Not sure when you captured that sale price but that was well over a week ago it ended. You may want to double check your facts (much like the G14 2023 having 2 SSDs mentioned in your video when it does not) before posting.
on sale the 2023 model is $500 cheaper with the same configurations. the only difference is that your not getting OLED. A 40-50% price premium i dont think is enough to justify OLED. Im happy with my 2023 model. i was also able to upgrade to 32 gb of ram which is nice.

Errrm the bottom is not magnesium on the 2023 version. Its plastic with an aluminum insert. A reviewer should know after multiple generations.

Goddamn, just switched to this review to try and compare the Lenovo P1's performance in Photoshop + After Effects to the G14 2024 [I know, just for kicks] - and the numbers are totally on a different scale. The P1 test was about 1000-1100. Here it's 6000. Can't compare as it's not apples to apples. Actually just tried to see how a 16" + 4080 laptop like the P1 compares to a 14" 4070 in After Effects mostly.... I don't see After Effects test score here

A gaming laptop with a glossy screen??
The G14 (2024) is better and worth the extra, but I would hesitate to buy either model. This year, you could do yourself a favour and avoid buying Intel or AMD gaming/pro laptops, as both have peaked, and their 2024 chipsets are only a sideways upgrade. From what I have seen, this is quite disappointing, and the 2023 machines with worse efficiency and the ancient Iris iGPU would be a terrible buy.
Hmm I was kinda thinking about this and it’s the question I was looking for answers on.. I don’t have a laptop. I’m away from home for 3 weeks at a time so was thinking a steam deck/rog or a laptop.. should I wait or reckon they won’t have new gen upgrades for awhile?
@@brendon8702 I would certainly wait as the upcoming AMD and Intel will be a massive upgrade, 2-3 generational if the hype is true. Don't buy any Intel or AMD this year as they are simply bad value.

@@eladbari this year Asus added 3rd (small but with really high RPM) fan in G14 and G16 models (except G16 with 4080 and 4090 which have Vapor Chamber cooling and 2 fans). In turbo it goes on something like ~8000RPM which creates so pitchy and irritating sound. Performance mode a bit better but also can be frustrating after longer use.
An RTX 4090 is available in 2023 vs two steps down to 4070 in 2024. What's up with that, ASUS?
I'm mostly worried about knowing 64GB RAM would be a blessing to run After Effects + Photoshop / Davinci altogether...Having to give that up because the 2024 RAM is soldered. The 2023 G14 is thicker, heavier, yet, it can accommodate 64GB RAM setup which I wonder how much it would help with productivity on bigger files/ heavier scenes......
Its can only house 64gb when you drop quad channel ram because of the asymmetric memory config on 16gb on board and a 48gb stick. Sonwith the fast speeds, 32gb is the max.

I just don't know how "bad" it performs or, let's say, how better it will perform compared to 32GB in the 2024 G14 [which is faster]. There's the speed of work - and then - there's the volume of work you can manage. If 64GB RAM in the 2023 G14 is a bit slower, yet, it can accommodate more RAM Preview in After Effects / or have more Apps running altogether - then this is pretty beneficial. But, I never saw a real life test of a content creator user of a G14 that I can really know what it's like to use 64GB on such machine compared to 32GB. Same goes for using a 4080 on the 2023 G14- which is surely better...but, in real life- how much more beneficial it is, really? + And how much battery life will it take? Maybe it will give you 2 hours of video editing on Battery? While the 2024 G14 is [claimed by another reviewer]- to have 4-5 hours of Premiere Pro editing time on battery. I wonder about the ROI - Return of investment in real life. Cause the 2023 is better on paper compared to the 2024 G14...yet, maybe not really in real life usage...?
