Especially with vikings if they're nearby. They're real good at killing knights. Big stress gain but disinherit cost big presitge and more importantly dynasty renown.

  • avoid disinheriting if possible - just raise your army, split it into a tiny force with all the knights as people you would prefer were dead, and send them on a suicide mission to "aid" allies or raid as knights/champions. also, while on the subject, forbid your important characters from becoming knights/champions! If you know or suspect you will die soon and children wont get old enough to die gloriously, then disinherit. You will actually earn some renown just for having them live awhile, so it'll balance out in the end or even end up as a net gain. Also - you can change your commander it you would prefer your dude stays home to hold feasts to relieve stress or would rather a more expendable character with high martial tries to gain those lovely commander perks.

    • Piggybacking onto this to talk about tip number 9 which was about the elective successions. Elective Successions can work in your favour in two different ways: The first is that you can use it to pass on multiple kingdoms to your primary heir, even when your realm is under partition. For Example: you are playing in Ireland and aiming to form Alba, the Britannian, Empire but you only hold Ireland, Scotland and Wales so far and your ruler is aging and you don't have time to eat enough of England. To solve this, you will set Scotland and Wales to be Elective Kingdoms and simply have your vassals vote for your primary heir. When you die, your heir will inherit all three crowns. The second is a lot simpler and probably more obvious and it is that you can use Elective Kingdoms in the circumstances where you hold only a single Kingdom title to ensure that your heir is more talented. You can simply grant holdings to one of your sons or daughters that have great congenital traits and then choose them as your heir instead of their older, less talented sibling.

    • @@ThePedrodude I dont know about other succession types but I played with Scandinavian in the Viking start and it's utter trash, for whatever reason my vassals will always pick a random unwanted character from my Dynasty, and convincing them didnt come cheap and I couldn't afford it, even if you do it only lasts for 10 years, if your character is getting old is no big deal but a lot of my rulers died before reaching 60. In my opinion elective is too unpredictable and more often than not you will end with a very weak ruler.

  • Disinhereting sons uses up renown, which if you are especially fertile... well it will be expensive and ensure that you won't get any legacies.

    @lamename2010@lamename20103 жыл бұрын
  • Another few notes on the education: You are right that the skill of the resulting perk is based on the skill of the educator, but its also based on the time spent with that focus, so if you are going to change it, its best to do it early. You can also use the culture and faith of the educator to swap your heirs culture and faith, if you so wish. This is sometimes easier than converting all your counties cultures. One final thing, is that while there is no explicit limit on the number of Ducal rank titles you can hold, you gain a -10 malus to all your vassals opinion of you for every ducal title over the 2nd one you personally hold.

By doing so and creating a hook on my Leige I modified the "vassal contract" (I can't remember the specific name of that) that way, that my titles can't be revoked, so I don't lose right out because there's no way to win a rebellion war due to too view soldiers.

  • Acctualy the special successions can be applied to all your titles and is specialy useful in duchies case cuz if you apply the special succession type to your primary title as well as to the duchy titles then your heir will inherit all the counties located in said duchies no matter what. So for example you can have 10 sons and a domain of 8 counties located in 2 duchies if you change the duchies succession to elective then you are the only elector in said titles and what happens upon your death is that your heir will inherit all 8 counties.

  • Great video, lots of tips that will definitely improve my playthroughs. However, I do find the Disinherit Tip to be rather wasteful of those precious Renown points. It's fine if you don't intend to make use of the Legacies for your Dynasty soon but you'll be delaying powerful bonuses such as securing positive congenital traits or increased education traits. Though it is rather annoying to see your realm get shatteted especially in the early game, I found that stacking Duchy Titles is great at giving you a great deal of control for succession. Confederate Partition prefers to give away your duchy titles before giving away your much more important county titles. For example, let's say you have 3 eligible heirs and that you have 4 counties in your primary duchy while you have 2 extra duchy titles in your realm. Your main heir will receive your primary duchy and all de jure counties of that duchy while your two other heirs will receive the extra two duchy titles, even if they won't inherit any counties at all. This will let you maintain your men-at-arms stacks and maintain your levy pool without having to disinherit anyone. Some caveats to this strategy; If you have a Kingdom title, you will get some sizable opinion penalties for having lots of duchy titles. Having more than one Kingdom/Empire title may make this strategy a bit more difficult to manage. And that not having enough duchy titles for your heirs will result in your leftover heirs taking counties out of your main duchy which will weaken your realm greatly.

  • Hello, The inheritance law you mentioned with elections actually can lose you the game. The game only continues if you continue to rule something and generally has to be a member of your house. Whenever one of your characters dies or anytime you can choose to play a different ruler, but I know in Ironman it always had to be that your heir was a member of your house to continue the same game/get points. I’m still playing through my first game and haven’t turned on Ironman yet to be able to verify it’s still the same. Also, you don’t have to learn all of the innovations to move to the next time era. You have to learn most and then have a “waiting period” before you can switch. I think it’s like 75 or maybe 80% of the era before you can. You also have to be head of culture to control that (otherwise it probably my does take all of the innovations). To be head of culture you have to control more counties of your culture than any other rulers.

  • FYI, the "Going Places"Achievement is ridiculously easy in the current version of the game, Halsteinn Beggins with Fame level: "The living legend", more than 2k prestige and with a retinue of 3000 soldiers, with a few men at arms and good tactics you can use the "Invade Kingdom" casus Beli against france and get the entirety of West Francia in a single war. The setup required is not so hard, plot to Murder Charles the Bald (90% chance almost always), then his son will not have as easy time to ally many powerful kings, you can try and get yourself an alliance with any of the other Vikings (Except Yorvik cause he's useless and doesn't use his retinue to aid you at all), and through very careful battles get enough warscore to then sail using the river to capture Paris, if you're lucky you will capture the King either in battle or in the siege of Paris, in which case you get a super easy win. You will end up with 46 holdings, before you start giving it out, become a Duke, then give each vassal 2 or max 3 counties, half of the counties should go to catholic vassals so that you don't get as many revolts, after this you can hold onto the land for a while meanwhile you accumulate enough gold to either become the King of France or create a new kingdom through decision.

    • The sad thing about Haestein is that after his death you realm is bound to crumble if you choose to invade foreign lands such as Italy, Francia, Tunis or Spain. Hell even England isn't a piece of cake since you will most likely get Crusaded to death after a couple of years, since your wrong culture/religion counties will provide almost nothing and will most likely be more of a hassle. Sure, it is very easy to get the achievement but actually playing afterwards is miserable from my experience. However, I did find a way to make a powerhouse Hæstein run. Simply immediately annex Brittany (might require a few restarts until they aren't alloed with Francia) and declare on a Danish minor to get in range of Sweden and then use the invasion CB on Björn. Since you start with a ridiculous amount of troops, no Scandinavian lord stands even a sliver of chance. After that, speedrun your way into unifying Scandinavian and secure and freebie counties in England, Ireland and Iceland. Make sure to have a stable succession and hurray! Now in just 10 or so years the majority of Scandinavia, same culture and religion is yours and you are in a prime position to invade the pope and make the Jarldom of Latium your primary domain and base of Mediterranean operations. The reason why I'm so hell bent on Hæstein is because I want to achieve a Hellenic revival and the Norse religion is the best suited for that, while Hæstein, aside from his insane starting strength, is also already feudal, meaning that he is the best Norse character suited for such a run.

  • Better way to keep your Kingdoms than disinheriting is to make them elective. So long as you're on good terms with your vassals it's very easy to keep a hold of multiple kingdoms and you can choose your heir at will if your primary title is elective.

    @tomh4164@tomh41642 жыл бұрын
  • Let me dissent on the value of elected monarchs...Especially Tanistry...the true power in the elected monarchy is that you have the power to put the best heir in position to rule at any time in the game. Bonus points for Tanistry, because this cannot leave your Dynasty. Manipulating the election is as simple as finding the heir who best balances competent and palatability. And throwing them a Ducal title so their points add to yours will make it simpler. Even better, you don't have to sharpen the knives for incompetent primogeniture heirs, or risk the nasty kingslayer trait to secure your dynasty. Elected Monarchies win.

    @shawngillogly6873@shawngillogly68733 жыл бұрын
  • With regards to Special Succession Types, they have two other benefits. Firstly, whoever is elected for your primary title will be your Player Heir, so if one of your later children (or indeed any other election option) is far better suited you can make them your Player Heir. Secondly ,if you posses multiple Kingdom titles, but do not have enough of an Empire to form that title, and you have enough sway with your vassals in those kingdoms that they will (for the most part) follow your lead in the election, then you can ensure that your choice of heir will inherit multiple Kingdom titles, instead of your glorious Realm fracturing upon your death and Kingdom titles being distributed between multiple children. You can of course limit how many children you have to stop this fracturing, or disinherit any other children, or indeed you can just conquer the other kingdom(s) with your new ruler, but these options have inherent risks and costs. Convincing vassals to vote your way isn't so difficult really. Use sway and bribes to get them to like you, keep your dread high and your tyranny low. The diplomacy tree with its perks is especially useful here. And if all else fails, find a way to remove the other strong contenders.

  • So i found this super easy way to cheese wars. If your enemy character is in their capital then siege it down and you might be able to capture the character and get instant 100% war score. I found this out in my Ireland campaign where i would fabricate a claim on a duchy, declare war on england, raise my army in Dublin, sail down to Hampshire (their capital), siege it down, capture the king for ez 100%, take the duchy, rinse and repeat. I ended up owning all of Ireland, Wales, and England although only the north was under my control, in less than a hundred years. Then got screwed over by gavelkind and rage quit. For this to work you have to click on the enemy character once to get in the menu and then another on their portrait to find their location. If he's leading an army you can try and capture him in battle but in my experience the chances are much lower.

    @zilinskas91@zilinskas913 жыл бұрын
    • Probably not, but you better watch out if they have a son from a matrilineal marriage because they’ll be on the line of inheritance and have a claim on your lands.

I got really scared when my first king died and my realm got divided between my heir and the other sons, but thankfully I could take them back as they were very weak. I can't take the single heir law yet but hopefully the next time my king dies my realm will not divide so much.

    @combrade-t@combrade-t3 жыл бұрын
    • There's 2 things that could be involved in that. One is that the religion tree for Learning greatly improves your ability to convert counties. The other is that demanding that a vassal converts to your religion will instantly flip the religion of their capitol county, so if they somehow managed to vassalize a bunch of rulers rather than seize their lands outright they could convert quite a lot of land by demanding conversion. That second one is where Pluralist is really good, since it makes holy wars vassalize everyone whose land was entirely contained in the CB, which then means you don't destroy the Control of the county and you can instantly convert its religion by demanding conversion (though demanding conversion is less likely to work with Pluralist since refusing isn't a crime with that doctrine, which is something the description of Righteous and Fundamentalist doesn't tell you).

    @LondonReps@LondonReps3 жыл бұрын
    • I started in 1066 and the pope called a crusade for Jerusalem a little after 1090. There's a lot of factors that play into when the age of great holy wars start though, usually when the religion is threatened. Say if the Berbers take Rome, or the Andalusians push into France early on, crusades might start earlier.

    @Kirito_2016@Kirito_20163 жыл бұрын
  • This is good except for the scattering vassle lands idea. DO NOT DO THIS. Long term this has horrific consequences in terms of scattering county ownership, which I have learned the hard way in CK2 after having had the exact same premise you pose here only to find out what the long term implications of that are. You WANT a dominant duke in each dukedom. If you scatter their lands you are making which duchy is controlled by whom and what land that duchy controls a game of russian roulette. Eventually, many counts you gave land, especially if they have more than 1 territory, will become dukes anyway except now, they will have lands all over the place and your dukes will constantly fight each other because they each hold de jurre land they do not actually control and will all seek to consolidate their domains. If you are viking take the duchy, give the majority to a second + son, and if no sons, a dynasty member, and make them duke. Same thing for Christians but you just wont be getting duchies left and right. Vikings can easily get a duchy every couple years and you give them to your children who are not heir so that they become content with what they have and receive nothing when you die. Each viking son needs a dukedom if you have more than one and 2-4 counties depending on the number of sons and lands to not get anything in succession. If you satisfy this your lands will never divide. The same goes for christians but for Christians, harvesting dukedoms with tribal CB isnt realistic so you cant just have 8 sons and expect that to work out under partition as a christian.

  • Its funny because most of these mechanics and limitations were in Ck2 (by the end) and, along with the ping pong wars, I tweaked them all out. All of this stuff will be easily moddable via whatever the new game has for a "defines.lua". My copy of CK2 was heavily tweaked for all this stuff and illness and disease, battle events, troop overrun/kill, siege loot, mercenary cost etc etc. A couple of hours and you can completely tune the game to your perfect experience. Once its dialed in to your preference its ace! I was pretty disappointed that I can't interact with/send courtiers or family members to Holy Orders or get sons in to the Papacy out of the box, but I guess DLC is gonna DLC.

This isn't EUIV (starting when the Renaissance began) or Victoria (set int he ealry modern age) where Realms were a lot more centralized and stable. It's supposed to be this way. If you thought the game would be different, then it's on you because you haven't informed yourself about the game enough. The game was always marketed as a RPG-Focused Feudalism-Simulator Strategy Game.
