Greg Oden’s career R.I.P. 😢 As a Blazer fan, I remember how excited I was that we got him and thought at the time that he was the right choice over KD. There was no doubt about his star potential. And, in hindsight, if the Blazers had KD instead during those early years, they wouldn’t have been in a position to draft Dame in 2012.

A funny story about Bargnani (I am Italian). He seemed lazy on the court but to be there he worked extremely hard in the previous years. One time he was recovering from an injury and was doing a certain type of "walk" around the court and a staff member said to him "Ok keep doing this until I tell you to stop". The staff member suddenly had to go home for a problem and forgot about Bargnani. Bargnani kept doing that for 4 hours until they closed the gym 😂 Hard worker for sure.

I became a NBA fan with playing 2K12. It's weird to think Yao and LeBron were drafted only 1 year apart. Since for me, Yao is something "ancient, mystical and old", yet LeBron is still here, "fresh". It's hard to understand and really relate to players and time before yours. As I really appreciate the greats of yesteryears and I'm glad to watch these kinds of vids which chronicle their achievements, I will never get to know them as well as I know LeBron, Kyrie, Steph etc. It's useless and nigh impossible to compare players between eras, unless you've experienced said players passionately first hand.

Rose is my favorite one. From where he came from, to the dedication, to the youngest MVP, carry the Bulls to the playoffs, to the unfortunate injuries, that 3 point buzzer beater, to the dreads prime Rose coming out one more time to play his best game ever after everything he had been through in life, to his generosity for the youth, and never once getting in trouble. Brown had other issues, but he did have a lot of injuries, especially after his first few years. It seemed like he had several season ending injuries in Washington and Los Angeles. Then, years later, he signed with the Warriors in the middle of the year, looked like he was starting to find his groove and be a decent defender, and tore a muscle in his chest -- out for the rest of the year.
People forget way too often how awesome, brutal and fun Dwight Howard was in his prime. If he could have sustained this level, we would be talking today about one of the greatest Centers to ever play the game.

A quick note... Michael Jordan didn't play for the Wizards at the same time he was GM, as that would have been a huge violation of both NBA and players union rules. When he decided to come back to the court and play, he had to both resign as GM and sell his ownership stake in the team. 🙂

About him, some analysts think that it's not that he was missing that "it" factor, it's more because of Michael Jordan's temper, that you quickly mentionned: his toxicity was a good fit for players who stayed in the Bulls, but but was the worst for Brown and prevented him from reaching his full potential while he was still healthy, according to them. As for Greg Oden: yes, he's a bust. He didn't deliver as expected from his place in the draft and that's all what makes a bust. But it was not his fault, he has nothing to reproach to himself. It's not like Sam Bowie, 2nd pick in 1984, who hid his injuries, making the Blazers draft him before Jordan. Anyway, good series. I like that you talk about what they did after their career. It's not often that we see that part of their lives and how they used their experience and renown when they left the court.
