SVALBARD Photo Adventure - PART 1 | Solo camping in polar bear land
••• SVALBARD PHOTO ADVENTURE •••
PART 2: • SVALBARD Photo Adventu...
PART 3: • SVALBARD Photo Adventu...
I am on Svalbard for 10 days to photograph wildlife and landscapes. My plan is to get dropped off by boat on a small desolated island and stay there for a little less than a week to enjoy life with wild camping, wildlife photography and beautiful landscapes.
After a very bumpy boat ride I manage to set up my basecamp and surround it with the polar bear alarm. Using the very last light I am making my first time lapses on this trip and I get a glimpse of both the arctic fox and the Svalbard reindeer. I don't get close though so this is a great opportunity to do some landscape photography.

Can we take a moment and appreciate how much effort this man puts into these videos. It is mind blowing to me that i get to watch this for free. The amount of time and effort to set up all these cameras by yourself, always be on top of everything capturing multiple angles and editing this perfectly to have no dead space in the videos. On top of that create stunning photos and time lapses. Well done, thank you for sharing.
Hard to even describe what Morten brings to his audience. If ever there was an example of living your best life, it’s him. And always with gratitude. More Morten, less of everything else.
I had started to panic, where are you? no new post. Well worth the wait, another amazing video. A lovely mix of scenery and technical information. Thanks Morten
Still a little masterpiece by Morten Hilmer, it's really beautiful the moments you share with us. thank you very much 🙏🙏🙏
Wonderful comment. Thank you very much.
Very similitude to the chilean patagonia where I live, fantastic adventure, congratulation..!!
I understand. It's such a beautiful landscape. I can understand the need for adventure and to photograph the wild. Your guns and rifles were very often predominantly shown in your video - and as we all know - the wilderness and uninhabited areas belong to those beautiful wild animals. Anyone would be aghast if any were shot or killed to protect a human - just for getting a pretty picture! Best of luck.
I don't know Morten, when I see these landscapes, feel the nature in a video, listen the sound of silence. This is almost touching me, every person should make an adventure like yours. Just for understand what nature is! Photographer or not. Taste how our species has grown. Nice Job Morten, have a nice night.
So kind of you to send me such nice words Francy - thanks a lot
Morten Hilmer it’s a pleasure
Happy International Polar Bear Day! Thanks for sharing your passion for wildlife and photography. Truly inspirational!
28 minutes go by like it's nothing when watching your videos. Absolutely love your work
What an awesome compliment Ken.
Yeah! It's Morten Hilmer time again. I can't wait to see part II. Thanks for letting us be part of your wildlife experience.
When you post your videos such as these Morten, time irrecoverably stands still as you captivate the viewer with your wonderful story telling and drama of the adventure. Thank you for sharing this and taking us along with you
I am truly proud for getting such an awesome compliment. Thanks a lot
Totally agree. We love to come along with you on your trips. Amazing! Thanks Morten! Very inspirational and informative.
Well hello!!!! You are seriously one of only a few people who can make me turn off Sunday football. I was so happy to see your notification pop up today. So awesome! I can't wait for the next!
Haha I am very glad to hear:) Lets see if I can make you turn off the football next sunday as well:) So kind of you to write
Lovely. I'm in bear country and your preparation is great. Ultimately it is to prevent the bear from being harmed. Early notice, then lots of noise and commotion and hopefully they leave, but something for the last resort for survival. More bears die here from being trained to find food around humans than anything else. With your preparation both you and the bear will live to see another day.
Thanks a lot for this great explanation Derek. This is exactly why I put so much effort into making the camp. Bears are definitely most beautiful when they are alive.
Perfect Sunday viewing, Morten. Outstanding work. Thanks for all the extra effort with multiple camera set ups. Great info on setting up for a remote location shoot. Looking forward to part 2. Thx.
You are most definitely top of my subscription list on KZhead Morten..excitement,tension,peace and tranquility all rolled into your videos..long may you continue following your passion so we can enjoy and learn from what you do
My three most favourite things to do: camp in the wilderness, photography (especially wildlife) and watch Morten’s videos. Keep up the great work 👍 makes me happy when you post new videos! And I can’t wait for part 2!!
What a compliment to get. I feel lucky to have such a great audience. Thanks a lot
It was worth waiting for this video, thank you Morten, you are the best and the better.
Haha thanks so much
What could be more peaceful than this ? I love this passion . Thank you for sharing.
Thanks a lot Even. So glad you like it.
Thank you for sharing Morten. Looks beautiful. So peaceful Can't wait for part 2.
Brilliant Morten. You surpass yourself every time you upload a new video. Looking forward for the second part. Hope to see you soon!.
Absolutely stunning scenery as a backdrop for your camp Morten the mountains looked like castle ramparts, the video was beautifully filmed as always.
Man, this IS real life! Combined with photography it's perfect!
Very well done, Morten. Loved the timelapses and your interesting commentary. When backpacking in Alaska I've used a battery-powered electric fence that worked really well for brown bears. We even stored our food inside the fence and never had a single issue with bears even though they were all around us. The fence is powered by two ordinary D-cells that last for up to a month. Anyway, I'm going to watch Svalbard Part II now and I'm prepared to totally enjoy it.
Thank you Morten another for sharing and showing your travels and your wildlife photo adventure. I like your style, fotoart and your content so much! Best regards from Germany-Bavaria
The time on the video reads 00.00 and I'm hitting like now. My coffee is warm. Been waiting on this for long time!
Right?! ☺️
You are just awesome Jerry. Who could wish for a more dedicated audience;)
This is true adventure . Your film making is top class Morten it has every thing . Drama great story telling great cinematography music and even jeopardy . All delivered with great charm , thanks Morten can't wait for the next episode .
I hope you win an award.
A meticulously thought-out set-up, with available technology to help you. With the back drop of this amazing landscape of sugar-almond colours to set the scene, homo-photosensis moves quietly and purposefully before retiring in his red cave...sleep well arctic bears and Morten.
I missed this part back a year ago when I first found your channel. Very glad I found it!
This makes me miss Svalbards barren beauty very much.. Hoping to get the chance to visit briefly before next year, but I have my doubts. Eagerly awaiting the next one, all those moments you capture. Very beautifull. Thank you Morten!
Very nice production Morten. Looking forward to the next episode.
Awesome Trip
I carry that same rifle when I go out. Its a wonderful gun. Love your videos and the shots are amazing

Se que es muy dificil. Tu trabajo pero creo es el mas bello del mundo. Claro ablando de fotografia.
Once again, Morten, you have illustrated why those of us who love Nature do all we can to experience the exhilaration of being outdoors! The air, water, animals - your obvious caring attitude about all of it - and your talent for sharing it with us. Amazing video. Can't wait for the next one!!
At last! Been waiting for the Svalbard adventures and part 1 does not disappoint. Typical understated Morten-ness, chilling out with coffee and a rifle after arming the bear scarers in the middle of an arctic wilderness. Fantastic.
Great insight into your adventure. Shot beautifully and what a great place not many true wilderness like that left on this planet.
WOW! Great video! Looking forward to part II
