I guess it was totally at odds with the persona put across on the show. But he's a canny lad ( love the father - son relationship with Frankie!
I'm so glad that we still got to see it because wow, that might have been Ivos greatest line in the whole series. :D

The chemistry of this group is so great. Even when they're legitimately arguing, rather than getting annoyed I want to hear them continue. They feel like a semi-dysfunctional family. Also I am in love with Mae.

The bit where it cuts to Ivo, with his head in his hands, followed by a brief pause, before Frankie slowly turns towards him, and says “You just couldn’t shut the fuck up, could you Ivo”, is pure comedy gold; the comic timing is the very the personification of perfection- like something you might see in some classic sitcom. This was an amazing series, with a seriously fantastic cast.

because it undermines the authority of the Taskmaster
Sadly, because the amount of additional banter time required to lead up to that joke being as awesome as it was would be too much. Even an extra 30 or 40 seconds would require taking that time out somewhere else and, for that episode, where else could you pull from?
So that it would end up on the "editor's floor" and make the joke 10x truer and 10x funnier?
Seriously, the best jokes from this seasons were in the outtakes
Kayfabe It's barely a secret, but admitting or acknowledging it in the show makes the format and vibe fall apart

@@Hexen_Wulf Have you seen his New World Order show? His more tranquil, less aggressive nature reminds me of his presentation there. That show also has quite a few more honest moments where he drops his more angry stage persona, and I notice that most of the comedians when they come on Taskmaster tend not to play their stage persona, so it doesn't surprise me that he was calmer here.

@@Hexen_Wulf I think you might not know him too well. Here he doesn't have to play a persona, he's just being him. In his standups and elsewhere he usually is completely different.

I think Greg Davies, outside of his role as the Taskmaster, actually has the exact sense of humour as Mae Martin. They can probably just banter, bouncing sentences ad absurdum.

Now imagine the raw footage of the handcuff task - as they say was heavily edited in his favor. Yes, he was the new Ed Gamble. I generally don't like these type of people, on the other side, I admit the variety of the cast needs a "competition over anything" personality. It would be boring with 5 gentlepeople.

That was perfect
This was probrolly one of the best seasons. A wonderful cast with wonderful complementary chemistry.
There are fans who love the show for the cats and their chemistry. I fell in love with TM because of the tasks. If they meet the right cast, that's just a bonus. E.g. See how the "Eat the Grape" is almost half entertaining without David Correos, or how "Score 11 points" were ruined by a glasses man. But the tasks are still brilliant. This series' tasks were mediocre to my taste. And the great cast couldn't really elevate it. The camera crew and the editing was 100% as always, though. Mae finding the extra pineapples was a brilliant moment and well delivered to the screen.

They might have been the most competitive cast they have had so far. The longer the season went on the funnier it became.
My dad and i never liked the same things then taskmaster started. Every week. Without fail, we would sit and watch it together. When he was seriously ill with leukaemia, i recorded them for him to watch with me when he was better, and thats just what we did. 4 years on, he got secondary cancer and was always tired. He couldn't keep his eyes open for more than 2 mins. Although i continued recording them, it became clear he would never watch them again. His leukaemia came back and he got sepsis and died. I deleted all the recordings so ive missed a lot but im really enjoying what you put out on youtube and im hoping to start watching the ones on TV

I'm so sorry for your loss. My own dad and I used to watch Jeopardy together every weekday (when Alex Trebek hosted), and it was one of the very few common interests we shared before he passed. If you haven't yet watched Greg Davies' stand-up special You Magnificent Beast, it ends with a very funny and touching tribute to his own father who passed after a long illness❤

Always a brilliant show but this line up was close to perfect. Frankie and Ivo evolved into a wonderful double act, Kiell was sublime as he challenged everything, Jenny was as you would expect - daft as a brush but trying so hard. I was not aware of Mae before this but they are really good - funny and competitive.
I'm not sure why Ivo finding the egg sheller was cut? It's very short and they normally love showing tricks in the show. The pineapple argument was the best thing ever

Watching the extended argument makes me wonder if Jenny would have won the jelly task if she'd just found a container that made contact with the jelly.

I was thinking that if a contestant just placed their hand on the jelly, would that count? Because they weigh however much they way, and they are on top of (and on) the jelly. Nowhere does it say that the jelly has to support the full weight of what's on top of it, so I wonder if that would be an accepted workaround or if Alex and the crew would object and insist on doing the task in the spirit of the instructions.

They don’t so they can recycle them.
They usually don't so they can reuse them later on, but they have released one a few months ago of three different series casts doing a tie-break and it is very interesting and weird seeing all of them do the same task
This show doesn't need outtakes. It needs 45 mins more run time per episode and all the outtakes in the actual episodes.

Wish they'd keep this in and just release another longer 'Uncut' version. You know, like they did with 8 out of 10 Cats when they released a normal 30 min version and later that week a 50 min one
trust me I do as well, but it's A LOT harder to do with something like TM than more traditional panel shows like 8oo10C or QI. there's a great interview with lead editor Rebecca Bowker elsewhere on youtube, and one of the many things talked about is that kind of distinction.
