One time, without thinking, I grabbed his tail and in a nanosecond he had inserted my right forearm into his jaws...but exerted absolutely zero bite pressure, just looked at me and growled for a second, then let go, and we were back to our game. She was the most loyal, friendly, patient, loving dog ever. Everyone loved her and her grandparents took turns in babysitting!! 42 years later I still miss her and think of her at least monthly. We keep a lovely picture of her on our LR wall to this day. When we moved to the US from England we had to leave her behind, but she stayed with my Mum and her brother who both doted on her. They sent us regular updates and pictures and spoiled her to death. She was such a happy and caring dog. We will never, ever forget her. And, no, we have never had another one. During the pandemic the clinic restrictions didn’t allow patients to take any guests to appointments. My buddy was allowed and he brought so much joy to everyone in the clinic. Patients and staff loved his timely visits. He would go see EVERYONE! I was given a cancer free diagnosis May of 2022. One month later on our morning walk he looked up at me made a small whimper, walked over to a tree, laid down and passed away. I’m not over it. I still miss him. I love you Bam! I miss you so much.

    • Our first golden retriever(we’ve had four altogether, two currently) went mad for some donuts we brought home one time. I have no idea why. He was very well fed, not fat, but taken care of. And he had never done anything like that before or since. We put the box of Boston cream-filled chocolate topped donuts at the back of the counter where we thought he couldn’t reach though uncovered because we were going to eat more of them. But he was a big boy at that point, about a hundred pounds, and apparently had no problem reaching across the counter and quickly yanking the whole box of them down to the floor where he proceeded to scarf them all down in less than a minute. I seriously had gone into the living room just to check on the fireplace for just a minute and came back to him having devoured ALL of the rest of the donuts. I think there were about 10 of them. We thought, oh no, the chocolate will get him for sure! But he was perfectly fine since he was such a big dog. I guess he had a thing for Boston cream-filled chocolate donuts. Hahaha!😜

  • Another reason: I'm scared of dogs (ironic, I know). When I hear one bark I get slightly panicked, also when a larger dog suddenly comes towards me. But there was this one dog in Croatia. The dog was also a Golden Retriever. He slowly came toward me, still wagging his tail but he seemed careful as if he knew and gently pushed against me. I let him sniff my hands and he let me pet him, all the while being very nice. Whenever I stopped he didn't bark or anything, bit instead just looked at me. That experience has helped me become a bit less nervous toward dogs, and since my friend also had a friendly one they're the ones I like the most! And this one here also seems very nice!

  • The Scotts are also known for breeding one of the smartest dog: Border Collie. Unfortunately, they forgot to breed in the off switch, seeing the disastrous consequence of their mistake which lead to feathers flying everywhere, toys being worn out within a couple of weeks and carpets being worn down due to never-ending-zoomies. They realised the importance of an off switch and decided add it feature in the goldy.

    • Border Collies are working/herding dogs and, while generally considered the smartest breed, are usually considered poor pets (unless the owner has a lot of space for them and lots of daily work for them). Seen multiple examples of their behavior around kids and trying to herd them because they have nothing to work on.
