  • Building up dump body pivot bores on mine ore trucks by hand, one trick I learned from an old hand was to do the top half first. That way you didn’t have the heat buildup to contend with and you didn’t get the splatter on the bottom weld.

  • The most impressive part of this job (and you really do very impressive work), is that you removed those hydraulic lines and there is no hydraulic oil on the floor! That sir, is amazing. Thanks for posting!

  • First time I’ve seen anyone using a Climax boarding bar. These are one of the best out there. They make a servo drive unit for these that is faster, slower, and stronger all the way around, and very quiet. I had the hydraulic drive on my unit, then got the servo drive unit for it and never looked back, huge difference.

  • If you had an old endmill, you can use them as a boring bar. Even index them when a tip gives up. You can also sharpen them on a bench grinder if it's high speed steal.

  • Damn Greg, freehand welding like that in such a tight opening is really impressive. Now if you really want to show off, try hanging upside down with a mirror singing Fade To Black. Not really sure why I threw in the song other than it being badass. In all seriousness, you’re one hella talented field mechanic/engineer.

  • My only experience in such repairs is watching KZhead videos. But I do have a question that someone watching this video could answer. With the area being so small and this machine being a smaller unit, would cutting a brass sleeve an option? The hole could be line bored to accept the bushing and prevent additional damage down the road. Just a thought I had and was wondering if that would be an acceptable repair

    @paulharvey1947@paulharvey1947 Жыл бұрын
    • I don’t think it would last because of the small surface area. But technically it could be done.

  • Could you run that hydraulic borer off the tractor if you were in the field? Or does it already have its oen pump setup that travels with it? Never seen those before so very cool to see. Im loving your channel. Just got hired on at Cat as a welder, hoping to get transferred to their repair department eventually

  • Have you done a similar situation by blowing out the replacable bushings? If so which way do you find more productive. I don’t have a LB rig so my option is only to blow them out and weld in new.

  • I don't know if I _would_ or not, but I'd be awfully tempted to charge double for time spent doing things customers can do for themselves; hydraulic line removal being the case in point.

    • Honestly it doesn’t matter to me. It just gets added to the invoice. A lot of my customers like that I offer a “I can do it all” service.

      @OFW@OFW Жыл бұрын
    • The complaint that I hear most often from customers is, “ how can I justify charging them the same hourly rate for non-welding/machining work”? My reply is, “my time is worth the same no matter what I’m doing doing so use my time anyway you wish”. At the end of the day, most customers are only going to sit in the seat and wear stuff out. They ain’t getting dirty if they can pay you to do it.
