Maestro, I want to thank you for this performance. I have studied classical guitar for 55 years (I'm now an old retired psychology professor of 67) and I have heard many performances of this piece on guitar. Yours is simply the best. It is disciplined and clear though passionate, authoritative but not ponderous, and muscular but also deeply feeling. Watching you play this and also your rendition of Bachs' Prelude to his 3rd Cello Suite teaches me something new each time about playing Bach. I am very grateful for you. I think many in the classical guitar world must feel the same way as I do. Respectfully, Cliff
I am agree. He is a capo really!
@Daniela 1982 brava Daniela. Belle parole per una esibizione magistrale.👍🏼

Wow. This song is hard enough to play on a piano. Never considered a guitar possible. Respect well deserved.

Anyway, congratulations for this so great performance ! Proud having the same family name ! I’m a songwriter, musician but not good guitarist.. and fine artist painter. Keep safe always my dear Edson!

I have no business commenting on this, but: I lost my wife a few months ago. Having lost everything, there's nothing holding me back from whatever I want to do. The music of Bach never grows old.
I love to see how this man knows his instrument. No annoying noises from the strings when the fingers glide over them. My deepest respect for his skill and music. Bravo.
I noticed that too. Perfection, no squeeling strings anywhere.
I always wonder how this is even possible! :)
Nylon strings don't screech like steel strings do.
@@camthesaxman3387 But they do screech, quite a lot, especially the thicker ones
Yes. Not only is his technique impeccable, but so is his feel for the music.
As a child I turned pages while my dad played this on the pipe organ in church. I naturally absorbed all the notes of the entire composition as there were innumerable practice sessions. I did work out some parts on the guitar as a challenge and achieved success for my own satisfaction. Watching Edson play the entire piece was like realizing my own dream. Thank you for your beautiful artistry.
Simplesmente maravilhoso

Mee too! Crystal clear sound! Hard to replay like Maestro.
THIS is why classical guitarists never show up in those stupid "best guitarists" lists - they would own them all, every time.
Many modern guitarists could play this with ease. A number of them have covered Paganini.

Estava comparando as performances dessa peça em diferentes instrumentos.
Tenho a mesma impressão. 😎✌
Minha adaptaçao favorita é a do acordeon.... Ps: eu gosto q ela soe assutadora.... ;-) kkkkkkkk
Amazing never thought it could be played so well on the guitar.
Yeah amazing thing.
Agreed. Mr Lopes is an absolute master. Bach is perfect for guitar.
If I didn't know better, it sounds like it was originally written for the guitar.
in the 300 or so years since JS wrote this magnificent piece of music, I doubt that it has been performed so flawlessly
Congratulations, Maestro Edson Lopes, for this is "impossible" transcription, adaptation and performance of Bach's Toccata and Fugue BWV 565, maybe one of the most famous Organ pieces of all times. I studied Classical Guitar and Organ and never imagined I would hear it played on a Classical Guitar. I was delighted hearing all the counterpointing voices in the Fuge, strummings arpeggios, others, for Organ's long chords; transposing notes an octave lower/higher when they would be out of range; choosing Am as the key, and, of course your flawless, powerful performance. Thank you!
A guitarist and organist enjoying my video. Fantastic. I liked Yours observations. Thanks!
Dear Edson, I am blown away! This is an amazing transcription and absolutely brilliant played! Wow! You have my fullest respect and more. Thank you for your contribution to the guitar community. I hope you are safe and healthy. Per-Olov Kindgren
So great to see you here as well. My son has been playing transcriptions from both of you since a little boy (all started with your Canon in D all those years ago!). Thank you both. Keep safe and healthy. Best wishes.
Dear Per-Olov funny I found Edson Lopes' interpretation of Bach's Toccata and Fugue via KZhead's proposals after watching your interpretation of Bach's "Air" and then finding you comment the same. Though I fancy both of you had undergone some genetic experiments on your fingers, it's still mindblowing and breathtaking what you are doing with them.
Correction: " and absolutely, brilliantly played" ... adverb before the verb, not an adjective.
@@dragonenglish1014 There is a slight mistake in the comment (probably just a typo), but save for this, the grammar is correct. If he had written, "This is an amazing transcription and absolutely brilliantLY played!", it would have been just fine. What you suggest as a correction actually changes the meaning of the sentence.
@@raphaelklaussen1951 I don't think the omission of LY was a typo, I clearly think that this commenter has a lacking in English grammar. So, you think that the grammar is correct "save" for that error. Well, I could argue that because this musical piece is related to the present and is repeatable, present perfect should have been used, but with the use of two adverbs, it sounds a little awkward. I would have used the correct tense and omitted "absolutely".
Edson, a standing ovation from me. This is great on many levels, from your playing, to the transcription, to recording itself. Thanks so much for laboring over this piece and bringing it to us!
I was about to comment but no sense repeating what has already been said. Agree 100 percent.
Absolutely incredible. I can hardly believe this is possible on guitar. This was the first song I learned on piano and 30 years later I am learning classical guitar.
This is a lesson in excellence. I have been playing the guitar for over 25 years and could never ever dream of being this brilliant. Thankyou maestro . Bravo.
Couldn't have played like this on my best day!
The wavy movement of the thumb, the way he changes bar chords, the sheer number of notes, every single one written by Bach, utterly perfect sound. Completely mesmerizing.
Wee Jim, I have read many compliments over the years and yours is probably the the most skilful.
This is still one of the best interpretations of this masterpiece. Bravo, Edson.
Amen! 😋

Sir,it is a honor to listen to such a master as yourself. You are an inspiration to music and to life.
God, he even changed position in relation to the bridge to imitate the change in the stops. This is amazing.
I didn't even know you can change the timbre like that, really cool stuff.
Heard that when he did it 💪🏼 👏🏼
@@YourPerfectDoom yeah, it's cool stuff. But it's pretty simple- the tension of the strings will be higher at the ends, causing generally less clean sounds when fretting up high and that sort of timbre as you play closer to the bridge.

Those people are obviously crazy! This is one of Bach’s best work. And played on a nylon string classical guitar is super impressive. I would give anything to play this on my guitar right now! Lol And these people that thumbed down this video either it was too hard for them to play or it’s not their type of music, they just done realize that if it wasn’t for classical music they wouldn’t have their music they like today. Have to respect the classics! This is such an amazing and awesome performance with incredible talent.
That’s why nobody did.
Maybe you should be more concerned with what you think and less concerned with what others think.
