It's been 30 years and these witches are still turning little boys into mice. See the difference between Jim Henson's classic practical effects and Robert Zemeckis' CGI. It's practically night and day. Which do you prefer?

    • @Kekistani Ambassador well I like that it’s an entire new setting and time period. They had to do something different and they chose to do something positive with representation and being a bit more faithful to the book. It’s wasn’t tokenism either it was done tastefully. Octavia spencer was fantastic as the grandmother btw.Also most of the cast is still white so having a problem with them is kinda an internal issue that you have with the current political climate. There was only good intention clearly and there is still a version of this movie with all white people if you prefer whites only.

      @urilaf8598@urilaf85983 жыл бұрын
    • @Kekistani Ambassador The story is what matters. It was never integral that the characters were white. You may take issue but this movie did not “BlackWash” most of the cast is still white. Sorry your offended more people of other races are now being represented in film. There are things that are annoying when you go woke for instance the ghostbusters film in 2016 that is how you go woke go broke. This film really meant no harm. It was interesting to see the change. I’m sure many young black youth enjoy seeing black leads in film. That doesn’t evoke any anger against them on my part. No need to be cryptic either. Set aside your politics and realize this film on its own is just a fun reimagining that takes nothing from the original and still happily employees starring roles for white people like Anne Hathaway. Your rage is toxic to yourself. Let it go.

      @urilaf8598@urilaf85983 жыл бұрын
    • @Kekistani Ambassador you can be all self righteous yourself and say how realistic you are. In the end you’ll just be offended and pissed a little boy is black in a film. It’s a non issue. There is no black washing when the cast is diverse. These are works of fiction. It was never important what race these characters were in there stories. I don’t want to see the same version of a film over and over I’d rather they deliver a competent film then just focus on there gender and color that’s not important. (I do agree you can do it wrong with ghostbusters)But this movie is fine and the performances were great. That’s it. People who hate it just hate remakes in general and that’s a reason I can understand. Your just full of resentment. Good luck

    • @Nathan Explosion the character was established as white. Yes. Am I going to throw up at the sight of that changing. No. Was the narration of Chris rock cheesy and terrible. Yes but he was barely in the movie... Id call it a cameo. The movie was fine. They will continue to remake this movie forever and he will be white again don’t worry. Ms granger is forever white in the films and black in a play no one likes. I’m not in denial just cause I’m not offended if they race bent characters. I don’t see either of you being as upset if they where to whitewash pre established black characters. Continue being offended by the antifa witch turning the BLM protester little boy into a mouse. Anne Hathaway was good visual effect were meh.

  • I like the old 1990 one better personally. The new one has too much CGI and Anjelica Huston was a scary grand High witch. I like it better that the kids turn back to humans. I like the old movie better than the book. I know it's weird, but that is how I feel. I grew up reading Roald Dahl books and The Witches was not my favorite book. To me, the best films based on Roald Dahl's books are Matilda and James and the Giant Peach. Those movies did a good job in following the book with just a little minor difference from the books and plus Roald Dahl films of the '90s used very little CGI of course James and the Giant Peach during the middle was animated, but glad Tim Burton was involved in it to give it his cartoon style.

  • It's ironic the movie with the author's name in the title is the one that past the ending comes further from the source material while the one that doesn't have his name more closely resembles the book in every way except one unneeded scene tacked in there for seemingly no reason. Remove that one scene and the 1990 film honours Roald Dahl far more than he'd have thought. I really think the extra sequences with that new character tipped him off more than the rest of the film, and if she were removed he'd have liked it. He enjoyed Angelica Huston, and I wouldn't be surprised to know he loved Rowan Atkinson. And the effects were great, and the plot was almost exactly what he wrote when that new witch wasn't on screen. He would most certainly not approve of shafting the British setting for an American one.

    @TheNotverysocial@TheNotverysocial3 жыл бұрын
    • @Jamjam04 Read my comment again. I am quite aware. But it does follow his book almost to a T. What drags it down is an extra unneeded character who does not affect most of the movie, but derails the ending. And that is what annoyed him. Take her out, and it'd be the prefect Witches film. The one with his name in its title avoids that trapping, but creates many more, the worst of it being the American setting.

  • The old one looks much better. The witch was actually scary in the old one but in this one it’s just an old lady with a bald head and a big mouth. I ain’t paying to see the new one. It dosen’t look scary at all and it looks way to fake and cartoonish.

    • Well Kevin Smith has often joked that a reboot is simply a remake with youth and diversity added in

  • Sick and tired of the politically correct remakes..first its black wonder years,then its black .remake witches...why cant the original cast stay the same race? Because its 2021 and we dont want to offend anyone .this shit gets old...all female Ghostbusters..classics like this movie you dont touch...leave the races and genders alone...Hollywood is soo stupid.

    • According to John Carpenter, the reason you get products like this is because it has become so incredibly expensive to promote a movie and have it make a return. So it easier to just pick up something people already know and maybe grew up on so the marketing is built in. The change in characters is just a way to expand that net and get more butts in the seat. At the end of the day it’s a business.

    • @@BurnsReviews yeah but that doesn't make any sense man. Movies like The Ghostbusters I bet probably brought in mostly male viewers so how does changing a movie to an all-female cast expect to retain the male viewership that most men grew up watching? I haven't watch the all-female Ghostbusters nor will I ever because I think it's a slap in the face to the original cast and not that they're just women per say it's because the actresses they chose are just, comically ridiculous and also with The Wonder Years reboot how many people grew up watching that who were white I'm going to guess 75% of the audience was probably Caucasian so if you reboot it how many people are going to be turned off by it? I don't know if it's a gender thing or a race thing, I'm not a racist and I don't hate women oh, I think it's just a Nostalgia thing you're messing with people's childhood memories so the people that are making these shows again are in effect trying to bring back their own childhood because they're probably my age group 35 to 50 but changing the cast to a different race or changing a classic movie like the Ghostbusters to an all-female cast it's just absolutely horrible business I think you aren't adding books into the seat you're just changing the demographic of the audience and if I'm not mistaken the big demographic audience is still white male caucasian so if you want to turn off 50% to pick up another 30% of viewership then you're going to have one season shows and bombs at the box office like the all-female cast Ghostbusters

  • More re-imagined social justice garbage, if your not going to put soul and effort into these films just stop remaking them, it's not good enough to just slap CGI on something and change race of the main characters, and before I get racially flamed this is coming from a Black guy.

    • Hahahah Riiight??? Literally the only good thing to come out of these bad remakes is that sometimes they give a solid RE-rerelease / collector’s edition of the original film that I can add to my collection. Or at the bare minimum I’ll go “they’re making a remake? I never saw the original.. maybe I should check it out” Thanks for watching :)
