Someone give Dana a new show!! How it didn’t work with all those hilarious people is beyond me?! The world needs more Dana Carvey right now!
This is why everyone on these sort of shows complain about the network, it isn't because of the censors like people may think, even Chapelle has said they're not the issue. His show died the same death as firefly and Star Trek, the death of Lost and so many others: the wrong time-slot. Network broadcast TV becomes more of a distant memory every day, but this was perhaps it at hits highest, and if you weren't uber-profitable, you're out. The most surprising part to me isn't that it got cut, but that not even Dana Carvey could do something, anything, to prevent it, I always considered him up there like Seinfeld, but I suppose otherwise, it was a time.
@@vro1899 So true!!
Couldn’t agree more!
This is why I love Stephen Colbert, so humble and never forgetting his roots. He deserves all the success.
Amen. Colbert's classy that way.
mohammamed rahman colbert is a dumbshit
High Yoda Congratulations. You’ve taken the first step towards recovery. Admitting on KZhead that you’re a miserable, trolling fuck. Let me guess, you’re a tRump fan and just bitter because Colbert brilliantly destroys him on every show. 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
@Jack Steward No, Colbert is a Comedy Genius!
u pathetic sukup.
Carvey is one of the best impressionists on Earth...he makes it an art form.
He has that manic/quick wit like Robin Williams.
I love stories like this. People starting out, saying they were unemployed, with babies and bills, and look at who they become. Its never overnight, you just have to keep working at it... You deserve every success you earned, Colbert
MsTuliplady Watch ‘Too Funny To Fail, The Dana Carvey Show.’ It’s phenomenal.
Thanks Confucius
The Dana Carvey Show was a brilliant comedy that was 10 years ahead of its time. Had it aired before the turn of the century on Comedy Central at 9 it would still be on. I remember being an early teen and watching every episode.
Wish they'd put out more unedited interviews like this. Or, heck, monologues.
MaserXIV there are plenty of funny POV monologs In the documentary.
MaserXIV I
Carvey. For president 2020!!!
I've always been a Dana fan. It's refreshing to see Stephen got his start there. It's also cool to see the respect and admiration he still has for him.
Totally. Lovin this
Dana's one of my very favorite people ever. A beautiful genius.
Dana Carvey is a genius and in my opinion underappreciated
He is a genius but not underappreciated. Listen to the applauses n cheers! :)
@@nacho71ar I think what she meant was he should be more famous than he is
Dana’s good but somehow peaked out in the 90’s. Maybe health problems limited his ability to perform constantly
Remember the Church Lady!!!
"underappreciated"..? What? He is universally acknowledged as one of the funniest people on the entire planet.
You can tell these two are actually friends. They're just having a conversation and reminiscing almost like they forget the audience was even there.
Oh my God, I love Dana Carvey so much. I almost forgot about him! The fact that he is connected in such a significant way to Stephen Colbert is literally so amazing. Because oh my God, I love Stephen Colbert so much. A match made in heaven!
Stephen just described the meaning of luck (when you have the outsized talent, that is): He can trace the trajectory from his job on Dana Carvey directly to this one. I'm happy for him!
Adam K Seeing the Chicago audition tape, where his 3-month old daughter is the puppet, is brilliant. Both Stephen and his wife, unemployed at the time, must have been stressed out of their minds, and desperate. It demonstrates that, no matter your circumstances, no matter how bad things look at the time, the future is yet to be written.
"Carving a hate stick to beat Spaniards" is the funniest goddamn thing I've heard in God knows how long.
Hahahahhaha! Yes, it fricking is!
I know it shouldn't even be funny but I can't stop laughing
I want to see every bit of the Dana Carvey Show now. Aired and Unaired. Anyone know a place I can do that???
I have 11 fingers. Hum.
@@pleasuretokill Hulu!!
"Gerald ford isn't going to be eaten by wolves" "Taft was" 😂
PLEASE DO MORE TOGETHER ! The chemistry and combination of Stephen and Dana is pure gold...
"Dana Carvey: The man is funny with the sound off." Generosity of spirit - stephen colbert
+ Pamela Rose PhD We're doing some primary tests right now and we're counting on some government funding, a blessing from the Pope, and several hundred people sending in boxtops, coupons, and old green stamp books to raise the funding to continue this mental state project, but we're pretty sure we're gonna find out the obvious that Dana Carvey is the funniest person on the planet! Unless he escapes the institution again like he did last time and we had to fish him out of the moat. Nice comment Pamela I think Dana and Steve are great too.
What a treat for fans of The Dana Carvey Show! Thanks, Late Show, for not pandering to the low-attention-span crowd like most talk shows do on KZhead with their tiny interview snippets, and instead going the other direction and giving us the unexpurgated footage! This was the most enjoyable Colbert interview I've ever watched.
"Gerald Ford Died Today" has been a huge running joke in my family for ages. I'm so delighted (and not surprised) to discover that Stephen wrote it. These men are both geniuses.
AaaahhhaaaHaaahahahahahahah! Aaaahahahahahahahaha!
DANNGG. Carvey is literally the BEST impressionest i've seen.
Impressionist.
He certainly is. It’s beyond talent, it sheer freaky genius.
Too Funny to Fail is a hilarious peek behind the scenes of making a show go. Celebrity comedians explaining the sketches and the other situations surrounding the show. Really well done.
"Taft was." I LOST it.
Brian Francis " he was delicious " 😂😂
took two wolf packs to finish the meal
+ Brain Francis I caught that too and I about fell off my chair, musta been a whole pack or perhaps two packs as Taft weighed over 300 Lbs.
I died ☠️☠️
+ KoRnKnoTTeR This was one of the best from these two. Dana is one of the funniest people on the Earth. He's also a buzzard eating chicken farmer who eats worms for breakfast. I had to say this because, not only is it true but its because he was born exactly 5 months, 3 days 11 hours and 55 seconds before me, the rotten egg omelette. Besides which I can do more impressions then him and I'd love to be on (Late Night) with Stephen Colbert who is so darn funny I lose it every time I get to hear him. These two need to be in a hospital and used as a medicine. If the old saying is true, and it is, that laughter is the best medicine then these two are Doctors. There are a few other reasons they should be in a hospital, not necessarily a regular hospital, if you get what I mean, but that's for another comment. All in all I love these two geniuses and the work they do. "Bolton Bolton, Bolton, keep those doggies movin rawhide" beautiful! and I still have a smile on my face with that one.
Always thought carvey was under appreciated.the guy is a brilliant mimic.we need more laughter in this world thanks Dana.
Thank you for the 'under appreciated', makes a pleasant change from the usual 'underrated'.
Oh man, I think of that sketch every time someone mentions Tom Brokaw or Gerald Ford, and all these years I had no idea it was written by Colbert-- Awesome
Interesting that Carvey gave both Colbert and Carell their first breaks.
☺️ccx fre ttr3fedeew
When you are talented you just recognize other talents, I guess.
Colbert was Carell's understudy so they were like a two in one combo
And now, both Steve’s are bigger than Dana ever was.
I loved the bit where Carrell and, I think, Carvey, pulled pranks, that are actually good deeds, and speeding off in their car, laughing maniacally as if they had totally, figuratively, crapped on those they pranked.
Dana Carvey is a freaking legend.
Mike Myers should have let him play Dr Evil.
@@octaviancaesarhibernicus4447 holy shit was that ever an option? that would have been amazing
What kind of legend?
I'll bet you're fun at a blacklight zentai suit twister tournament
Top 3 all-time SNL And no one like him ever.
Dana probably felt overshadowed by Mike Myers' success. I'm so glad he's now seeing how many people love him. Dana Carvey & Phil Hartman were my favorite SNL cast members when I was a kid in the 80's-90's. RIP Phil Hartman
Hartman was a legend! I was recently binge watching News Radio and I had to turn it off when it got to the "Bill's Memorial" episode. Even this far after it aired, it still gets to me.
Dana is THE BEST!! That "thank you for this job, thank you for showbusiness" at 19:53 :)
100% pure laughter, that I desperately needed!
This was soooo much fun! I was a Dana Carvey fan before now it just peaked. Carvey+Colbert! WOW!
Bring back the Dana Carvey Show - cause it would definitely work in this day and age! Also, "The Dana Carvey Show" is available on Hulu.
The PCs are ruining comedy. Sorry, that ship has sailed.
CM Laki Have you seen the Documentary on it?? It’s freakin great. The love/friendship between Colbert and Carell is just so wonderful to watch. (Did Hulu pull the 7 episodes of the actual show? I can’t find it.) ❤️🤘🏼
How in the world did Dana Carvey keep a straight face through those fake obituaries for Gerald Ford as Tom Brokaw? I was laughing so hard I was crying.
You should straight up upload full episodes altogether. Be pioneers like that.
Christian Omar Sandoval González good effort. Appreciate you saying it for the rest of the team
they already do. it's on their website.
Sadly, CBS website's content isn't available here in México.
it's not great for adsense. more videos = more ads
I'm just glad that he actually puts up big chunks of interviews and full monologues (compared to other shows where they just give a highlight).
Dana Carvey is one of my all time favorite comedians I fell in love with him when I was i middle school, best SNL ever.. Carvey.myers.Hartman....
Excellence all around. It isn’t seen or heard off often but I love when comedians and actors express authentic admiration and gratitude to other comedians and actors. Hollywood is so competitive and cutthroat that it warms my heart to see Stephen and Dana genuinely play off each other without oneupmanship. This interview was funny and irreverent. Warm hearts all around. 💙😊
+ Madame Chairwoman I agree totally! These two could be president and vice president of the U.S. and the world would be a better place for sure perhaps we could actually learn to work together.
"I'll be Frank... ...ok can I still be Garth" Kills me every time.
The great Dana Carvey! This guy never misses.
OMG - I loved that Tom Brokaw skit a decade before I ever heard of Stephen Colbert. I can't believe he wrote that. Love that man!
+remcat ~ From my vague understanding, Colbert was also part of putting together the "Ambiguously Gay Duo" cartoons. Possibly even part of the voice talent, though I'm not sure about that.
I think it's in the documentary. It was another thing they were working on during the Dana Carvey show with Smigel and they ended up doing it on SNL with the Two Steves doing the voices
5:34 Stephen always the pro. Putting down his imaginary "hate-stick" ... Bravo !
Dana. Carvey needs to have a weekly show, he’s brilliant!!😊
On a time like this , we sure could use a lot of laugh from Dana Carvey. Such a talented man. 👍
Oh thank god! Now please do this with every single Jon Stewart appearance too! You can always tell those are edited down for time but those are the ones we want more of 👀
"carving a hate stick to beat Spaniards" Could be the single funniest line I've heard in a decade
....and watching Dana totally crack up after hearing that again made me lose it. LOL Colbert's an absolute genius. Sometimes...a lot of the times, honestly... the rare sketches he does on THIS show aren't really that great, but overall-looking at his whole catalog-holy shit. He's amazing. I've always been in awe of his combination of genuine kindness and love of his life with his intelligence and hilarity. He's a good dude and we're lucky to have him.
The best part is that he's so flat stone faced when he says it! No emotion at all. LMAO
Why? Is there a reference?
That voice made it, though

I remember watching every episode of the Dana Carvey Show in 1996, one of the best comedy shows created
Where can i find it, i was 15 or 16 when it was on but i don't remember it. I would love to watch it now.
Is it hidden somewhere online, do you know?
This just doesn't get old! I come back every 3 months to get a giggle.
Love Stephen Colbert and Dana Carvey is the best! Together... this is the funniest interview/conversation!!
Such a delightful interview. Stephen Colbert is the best for a reason. Dana Carvey is a gem!
I still quote the Dana Carvey Show to this day. It was so great. Silly, weird and brilliant.
PLEASE, whoever runs this channel, do more of these extended interviews. I would be willing to watch more ads to see longer vids on yt. Loved this interview.
I could listen to stories like this all day, stories of how stars got their first breaks, what it was like day to day, brainstorming sessions, coincidental things that happened that ended up shaping pop culture, etc. So interesting
I could listen to these two reminisce all day. Hysterical!
I'm so happy you posted this extended interview! I loved "Too Funny to Fail" and was wondering when you'd have Dana on your show to talk about it.
too funny to fail was so good... and that scene where they showed the ad for the dana carvey show that aired right after the dramatic home improvement ad. I don't think I've ever laughed that hard lmao 😂
Dana’s show was way ahead of its time to say the least.
debbiedoodiedand
there was good doc on this recent
DonC omg I was laughing at that part for literally days. I would just be sitting there driving and it would come to my head and I would laugh. I still google that clip.
Stephen's a fan of all the right things.
+ Asi Boy Stephen is cool and a true gentleman as well just ask Senator Elizabeth Warren. Dana is a living legend.
Stephen is the Nerd King.
Except for religion
When he had Ric Ocasik on, in my world, he skyrocketed to my God.
I agree I agree
There will never be another Dana Carvey!! This man is a legend!!!!!!
Much like Robin Williams. There will never be another Robin Williams.
Remember Dana on SNL doing Bush Sr.? "Not gah dah, wouldn't be prudent at this juncture..." :-) Good Stuff!
I memba
"It's bad! It's BAD!"
And no new taxes....LOL
I am so glad you guys decided to give us the unedited version. Pure pleasure!
One of the funniest guys that I have ever seen. Carvey always cracks me up.
I made the mistake of watching this at work...and now it looks like I've been crying for hours. This was hilarious.
"I'm not worthy! I'm not worthy!" It took me 3 times watching this video to realize that was a Wayne's World reference... and I grew up on that movie!!
dana carvey needs to have his own show again :)
You are so right. He has the genius talent, and would again need an ensemble format with multiple sketches because his talent is so “beyond” he would out shine any single guest in a “talk show” format.
I agree with both of you! His humor is perfect in today's political/social climate. And if somehow he could get Steve Carell and Stephen Colbert to have some part of it, it would be even better! It would be better than SNL, and I know a lot of networks would want to pick that show up!
Carvey was NBC's original choice as a replacement for David Letterman when Letterman left Late Night for CBS. I love Conan but how awesome would it have been if Carvey had accepted the job?
msminmichigan Wow, really? I’m kinda glad he didn’t do it, I think. Look at how limited, tied down and drained the Late Show seems to inflict on Colbert? Not that Carver wouldn’t be good, but the “Late Show” template only gives someone so much room to move... I don’t think it’s the best place for *truly* genius comedians (of which there are few).
I agree!!
Ok so I just need to say, these are two of the funniest guys I've ever seen. I literally cannot remember the last time I've laughed this much. Thank you both, you are treasures to this earth, and I had no idea you knew each other so well.
Watch a Martin Short interview 😅
OMFG the Regis/Brando!
The band played "Wonderwall" by Oasis on Dana's arrival. Cool
My favorite guys ever! I love it. More of Dana Carvey! Bring him into the show!
The band playing wonderwall 😂😂
I miss Oasis a lot
me too
it's great hearing that melody without either of the Gallaghers :')
I didn’t get that.. why was Wonderwall chosen as his entrance music? Inside joke I’m not getting?
so anyway, here's Wonderwall.
Thank you for the Master Class, Gentlemen 🏆😂🏆😂💎💎
Dana Carvey is the best...these two have such great chemistry. Great interview!
*thank you* for posting the entire uncut interview - so much appreciated ♥
Love Dana...he was so far ahead of his time
oh this is awesome.
Love love love Dana, he's freakin awesomely hilarious
I’ve loved Dana’s routines, impersonations, comedic shticks, et al for the last 20+ years. He’s solid. I bet being a comedian is not just a job, but something that is just fun for him to do, in a natural manner. Great job always Mr. Dana!!
That was the classiest Wonderwall....
Wonderwall.. won my heart
Adarsh Kurup damn I need a rendition of that in my life
Oasis rocked.
@@eugeneaxe never managed to make any impact over there though did they. I remember Noel said Liam took Crystal Meth the night before meeting the record company execs, Liam thought it was cocaine and when they went in Liam was acting like a fuckin lunatic and the execs said they wanted nothing to do with them.
Dana Carvey show was top shelf
I actually missed this when it came out, but I'm happy it showed up in my feed. Great interview, great that it's the extended version!
Easily the best Colbert segment I've seen, amazing to see Dana's impression talents on display and workshoped. And seeing behind the scenes info on the Dana show, awesome!
I can’t tell you how much I love Stephen. I grew up on him when he was on the Daily Show (I still vividly remember the banana blooper), and then of course when he landed his own show with the Colbert Report. I’ve always loved him and always rooted for him even when our politics differed. My love will never waver, and I am SOOOOOOOOO SO SO SO HAPPY for his success!!!!!! Stephen you did it. You made it to the VERY TIPPY TOP!!!!! You literally achieved the biggest dream of anyone in the tv business. I’m You really really DID IT!!!!!!!!
Brilliant

The YT algorithm has recommended this video on autoplay mode over 5 times over the years now. And I've never wanted to skip it once. Miss Dana Carvey.
Unbelievably great interview. Love it. These 2 are pure magic together. Probably my favorite interview ever.
You have a low bar for talent.
Always appreciate the full interviews, thanks! :)
When I am 62, I want to be as awesome as Dana is!
“Could it be?...Satan?! Well, isn’t that special?!” Always loved him.
I keep rewatching this at least once a year since it came out.. Dana Carvey is a national treasure
Amazing to watch these two comedic geniuses just talking! They sound like they're wired together!
Really a sad life when you get a glimmer of hope from hearing an impression of Obama instead of a talking orangeman. Great interview!!
Even sadder when ignoramuses haven't a clue as to what CONSTITUTES an Article II 'natural born Citizen'.
Comments like this... just shallow and short sighted. Obama did nothing, Trump is doing everything.
@@califinn ☝️😆😅🤣
Gosh, this guy cheers me up... my absolute favorite comedian!
Skinheads From Maine was hilarious. It's on KZhead. Everyone should watch it.
John Westcott is it actually hilarious? Or American humour?
Pleasure enjoying the comedic Genious of Dana Carvey 😁😁😁
Dana is one of the most creative comedic minds in showbiz
2 of my favorites of ALL time… Yet Stephen has been bumped to the top. The absolute top.
wow, that was really inspirational. Stephen Colbert is a fucking legend
OMG this man is so funny! I love his return to making all of us laugh so hard we actually pee a little!😂
"Too Funny To Fail" is a fantastic documentary.
This is such an amazing interview. The chemistry!
This IS the craziest great interview dynamic between these two.. and shared memories. Awesome to have finally seen this.
