I went to six comps so far, and it only gets better! First time, I was too shy to talk to anyone. Second time, I went and deliberately came up to people to talk even if it was awkward (I was 39 and a woman, so fit to be a mom of most competitors lol). But after that, I began attending our local cubing meetups, and then I went to more comps, and the last comp held in my home town was fantastic. I was friends with many local cubers, and I also knew many of the people from other towns. I wasn't as needy as my second time, and I had a ton of chats and interactions!
Thanks Tingman for becoming an inspriration for me in my youtube career. I'm going to reach 10k very soon and that's because of you. Thank you sir for becoming my idol.♥
NOTE: depending on where you are you might have to register pretty much instantly as it opens. Here in the Netherlands most comps fill up very fast, and if you're late you end up at the bottom of the waiting list. Make sure to set an alarm!
YES ABSOLUTELY!!!
I live in HK and comps are rare. A comp last year which had a quota of 200 filled up in like a little bit more than an hour. Be sure not to hesitate when thinking what events to participate in!
Very good advice. Definitely, if there aren't a lot of comps in your country or area.
@@Failure_is_Cubing That's nothing haha, there are consistent comps near me in a place called stevenage with a 200 competitor limit, and it fills up within 15 minutes, every time
@@Failure_is_Cubing Dutch nationals filled up 200 competitors in 35 seconds 😅.
I witnessed three NR's. Clock NR by Dilshawn (Canada), and Two Pyraminx NR's by Bawar (Afghanistan)!
My first comp was in Poland and I didnt speak Polish so I sat there by myself not knowing what was happening and the kids next to me were speaking in polish to each other but there was a kid who actually helped me even though he didnt speak english and we as cubers just raced even though we didnt know the same language
That's soo sweet!
omg that’s sooo cool!
If I had a chance to compete internationally I would try to learn a new language before competing
@@andrewwatkins4852well if u were going to one competition in a country u r visiting for the holiday are u gonna be like: ‘wait I need to know this country’s language before I got’
@@FrostbiteCubes I know at least 3 languages so I’m pretty much set if I planned to do international competitions
I solved my first cube a few days after Christmas and am working on my times. I’m at 2 minutes now! I have found your videos so encouraging and inspiring and just immensely helpful. You are so warm and kind and not intimidating. I was so scared of Rubik’s cubes and put off by their complexity for so many years. But your channel has taken away that fear and turned it into fun. Thanks for all your amazing content, Tingman!
I solved my first cube on christmas
Since I have my first comp in march this year, I am VERY nervous.😅 THIS belped me a lot! THANKS TINGMAN
Thank you, tingman. I love cubing, and now this video has helped me to go to a comp myself. You're the best!!!😊
Love your videos tingman❤
3:23 thats a good point. ive been to a few of my older brothers compititions and ive never competed, hes super fast at big cubes and he holds the michigan record for 6x6 7x7 and 5x5 hes also top 60 in the world for all of those. i was also at the comp when luke got a 3.95 and now my brother is organizing one at our own town.... AND IM GOING!!
My first competition was back in early 2022 and I expected I would be just there to compete and that would be it, but when I showed up I knew it would be a memorable one for sure. Competitions have been not just fun but even helped me become who I am today. 27 competitions later, I would not have expected I would be organizing one of these events for WCA beginners month! Since then I have also convinced some of my friends to go to some comps and they have become regulars. Also thanks to you for inspiring me to go to my first competition! Happy new year!
This was the last thing I expected on a Sunday night.thanks tingman for the awesome content, I’m a really big fan of yours I go on my phone every second looking for new tingman videos and I bought every single one of your merch and the Olor mat from daily puzzles. I really wish there could be a meet and greet that yiu could do so I can see yiu in person. Thanks.😊
And happy new year tingman! I hope you break more PB's!!🎉🎉
Tingman, I just want to say, thanks for your wholesome videos, they make my day every time you make one 😊
Happy New Year to the Ting Man family!!!🎉 This year will definitely be a great year for comps! I'm actually going to the Cubikon on April 27th!! I'm participating in Pyraminx😊
Amazing video! Congrats to 1mil subscribers!!❤
LOVE YOUR VIDS! Going to a comp today!
Happy New Year everyone. May 2024 be filled with comps, PRs/PBs and a lot of cubing fun. I'm looking forward to go to a few more comps this year. PS: I will also never forget the first time I saw Feliks solve in person, that was a revelation and very inspiring.
I actually went to a comp yesterday! Almost all my motivation comes from you 💪
i love how tingman always tries to get people to try out this amazing hobby, all of his videos are so wholesome and fun to watch, keep it up!
Love your content!
Tingman learning about the famous Kentucky moonbow. :) For the uninitiated, its a nighttime rainbow that comes out of the waterfall at Cumberland Falls state park.
No way! That’s super cool.
Tingman your so right! I attended my first comp in dec 2022, and I did not know anyone, and then to the current day, I met my best friend of all time. I absolutely think you are so right about everything you said. BUT, make sure to register quickly, most of not all comps show how many times a como had been bookmarked, and if it’s higher than the competitor limit, SIGN IN QUICKLY!!!
I’ve been to a completion before and it’s really fun, I was a judge and a runner but sadly I didn’t make second round for 3x3. (It was the only event I did😂)
thanks for posting ting man i love ur content!!!!
I HIGHLY recommend cubing competitions! They helped me find people I'm comfortable around, and it's 100% worth giving it a go, whatever your age is and regardless of how fast you are at cubing.
I’m so excited I am going to my 2nd comp in early February
Great vid can't wait to see where cubing records go in 2024, and do you have to be a newcomer to go to those comps? nice vid! and as you said mabey i will meet you! can't wait tingman!
Happy cubing
5:12 Hitting a strike on Wii Sports Bowling is WAY more satisfying than that!
Another reason why I go to comps is it gives me more motivation to practice, and I can also set personal goals for myself that once I’ve practiced and prepped for the comp, I can (hopefully) achieve them there. If not, at least I’d have had fun spending time with my friends.
My first was in 2016, and then I did another in 2019, and I hope to do another this year
You just made me aware that there are competitions in the city I live in, Montreal!! I might try my first comp ever because of this clip. Thank you!!

“Don’t forget to make Cheggins a theme song…”
Ayyyy long time no see I just I don’t know but you just make people happier and yeah I love your vids
Made it into a Tingman vid! Bucket list item achieved ✅ Great video, as always!
I have a few questions to ask about cubing competition 1. Do you bring your own timer or they provide it for you 2. What's the difference between cutoff time and time limit
they provide timers for you when you are actually competing, but as you spend probabky a good amount of time somewhere practicing, i would advise bringing a timer (mobile device with apps or something would work as an alternative) regardless. as for cutoff/time limit, if your solve is over the time limit it is counted as a dnf, but cutoff means you can have official singles, but if you don’t get below the cutoff time you cant complete the avg. for example i’ve never made time limit for square one, so every time i’ve competed in it it’s counted as a dnf. but for 4x4, i have made time limit, but i didn’t make cutoff in the 2 solves they give you (depending on the comp the amount of solves they give you will change but it’s generally 2), so i couldn’t complete the rest of the solves in the average. hopefully this makes sense!
Happy one million subscribers 🎉🎉
I’m going to my 4th comp on the 20th but I don’t feel prepared
hey ting love your vids
Can u make some tips and tricks for big cubes pls?
Sadly there are no competitions in my country 😔
Happy new year
I always thought that to be in a Rubik’s cube competition, you need to be less then 1 min. Because a lot of speed cubers are within 1 min. or even faster than 30 seconds. But my average solve is anywhere from 1 min. - 1 min. 30ish, because I still solve beginners method and still haven’t learned at least all of the PLL yet.
congrats on 1 million subs😮
Hi Tingman!I have a question for you. What's your PB single?

Aaand you just reminded me that I meant to make "Attend my first cubing competition" one of my 2024 goals.

Hey I have been solving my cube for awhile now and I just can’t seem to get any faster times do you have any tips that I can use. I average around 30 seconds but I get really good times with this one scramble i get sub 20 but I am trying to get better you got any tips I could use
Most of my comps are like 3 hours away on the train and like 2 days on walk but i so want to go to one!!!

The Little Olor and her Sune Tshirt brings back memories man. ❤❤❤❤❤

Oh my goodness.

Do you go to competitions in Ontario
bc of you tingman i got 200 bc of your inspiration thank you for everything i hop i can be as big as you one day
I just had my 2nd cubing competition few weeks ago and my 1st ever was almost 5 years ago. I quit cubing for months so I just got back 2 weeks before the competition. The day of the competition, I struggled a lot especially with nervousness, my hands were shaking and couldn't focus well during inspection. I already know full oll and pll, but literally sucked during inspection (esp. cuz my hands are shaking). Hopefully in my future competitions I can do better. 😓
