Atlanta Falcons have 'work to do' after drafting Michael Penix Jr. | Pro Football Talk | NFL on NBC
/ nflonnbc
"how kirk gonna feel about this?" Kirk's got $100m guaranteed, regardless of how this plays out. I feel like he's going to be fine.
right. he's getting a ton money, is the guaranteed starter and has the opportunity to mentor a young guy.
Thank you. Go play football bro.
Mega millionaire problems!
We're going to find out how many millions pride is worth to him. At what point do you say, "I have enough money, now is the time to be a man." I mean it's Cousins so never, but you get my point. For a quarterback who's won a fair amount of (regular season) games, he's going to leave behind one boring, bland, forgetful legacy.
@alexmalt his legacy is to be the most well compensated QB in history if you talk $ to wins.
Somebody posted "Spence Rattler is in play for Atlanta with their 43 2nd round pick for the post Penix era".
Belichick is like - PHEW! Dodge that collaborative working BS
Kraft: you’re welcome
Cousin is a grown man he’ll get over it. The Falcons have to address the pass rush that’s the bigger issue
And they had that opportunity drafting at 8! But instead took a backup QB... that's okay, you're a grown man, you'll get over it.
@@runningbeard7380 you’re correct I am grown I have my own life to live so I am over it
@@runningbeard7380plenty of 1st rounders bust I think they went the better route getting a lot of guys on the line instead of thinking one guy would be a savior.
Kirk is a great guy and super nice. He is probably gonna call Michael today and welcome him to the team.
Agreed. I'm a vikings fan and a kirk will always be one of my fav all time players. He's a class dude, great qb, and I don't blame him one bit for getting that bag. Penix won't change how he approaches being a Falcon qb. He'll be a fantastic mentor.
I believe he already has
All the more reason why the Falcons felt comfortable making this move.
Anytime Kirk is feeling bad about them drafting Penix he'll just check his bank balance and he'll be over it
Exactly!!
He's got tons of money already, I'm sure a huge motivation for going to Atlanta is WINNING and retiring with a stronger legacy. Instead of getting him weapon like Bowers, Odunze or possibly Turner... they drafted his replacement before he's even taken the field in a Falcons uniform... the Falcons and Browns have been smokin' the same funny cigarettes.
This isn’t anoint back accounts. Cousins is a competitor and wants to play.
If I was Kurt I'd be super tempted to go out there and play like sh*t on purpose. I would be tempted to take my money and make them play Penix.
you're underestimating how petty Kirk can be when his ego is threatened!
Ballsy that the falcons think they won't be picking in the top 10 when they dont take blue chip players
When he’s ready to Play team needs to Pay! Not smart in that sense But I think pennix can be really good and so it won’t matter.
I’m what world is Penix not a blue chip player?
@Urbohat I'm not hating on penix, it's just bad process by the falcons. I'm not complaining, though. It pushed defensive players to the back end of the draft for my eagles.
@@roncarter8079is he, seems pretty flawed, doesn't mean he can't develop, but I wouldn't be excited about the future if I was a falcons fan
@@roncarter8079 this world
I still can't believe we took a qb at 8. 😅
Signing Cousins only made sense if the Falcons were in the “win NOW” camp; everyone knew that this year’s quarterback class was going to be deep and that a team that already has offensive weapons (like Atlanta) could be in a good place to sign a young franchise quarterback for the future, but the ATL FO decided that wasn’t the way to go …until, apparently, rolling into the parking lot at Ford Field last night when they decided it was.
Atlanta has decent weapons, but not great. London is good but he's not Mike Evans. I don't think Kyle Pitts is much of an improvement in the division over Cade Otton. They had a chance to get a difference maker, a true playmaker in Odunze or Bowers and Cousins would have had a huge year with them.
Kirk - You like that?
I was wondering if the Falcons know that the Kirk tampering is more serious than what they let on and they are hedging their bet for the future. Kirk is a 35-year-old QB coming out of a season-ending injury. It is a good move on their part to think ahead like that
Definitely, the drafting of Penix was a preemptive move by Atlanta.
Penix is 24 who’s needs to play now
Penix is more injury prone and does nothing for the team that is supposedly in win now mode
Being that taking a QB there was their plan they should have divulged that information to Cousins. They falsely made him believe that he would have a few years as the starter. NFL players talk and having a dishonest front office isn't a good look. Especially for potential future free agents.
@countlessworld620 It's 24 not 34 - people are acting like half his potential career is over. Even if he doesn't play until he's 26 he still has a decade of his prime ahead.
I agree with Florio on this one, the move completely undermines Cousins trust in the organization. Bad pick, they could have avoided a needless potential problem with their QB and filled other needs with another high-quality player.
He just got paid $100 million. If he isn’t fine, he wasn’t meant to be the guy.
@Gman333g Or they might not have an impact and we're back where we started!
Kirk don't own a team or write checks he ain't playing forever he already ran his mouth and gonna cost us picks next year he better shut that hole
I get it but their offense is load. They can get an edge rusher and defense help 2-5. This is a solid pickup. Try to win now with Kirk and have the future qb in the wing.
@Gman333ggreat points. I just wrote something similar to that.
Minnesota was not trying to guarantee his contract anymore and you Mike covered that.
Fontenot passing Cousins in the hall this morning: "Yo k.... YOU LIKE THAT?"
🤣
“The turd in the punch bowl “ haha😂 Mick Penix be like… is that me?
Pennix is 24 yrs old also... imagine him sitting for 3-4 years...he wil be 27-28 and almost midway thru his nfl career....smh. JJ McCarthy got lucky not being a Falcon ,to be able to play right away with a stacked offense...
He just turned 23
He’s not sitting more than 2 years
And at 27 could still have a decade more to play.
He won't sit more then 1 or 2 if he's 26 so what 10 years as a successful starter it's enough. The falcons shouldn't have paid Kirk to begin with. He's a stat guy but never done much for any franchise. He's older why him
Just remember Kurt Warner didn't start in the NFL till he was 27. Not saying Penix is going to be Kurt Warner, but he's still young enough.
“We won’t have the opportunity to pick this high again” 😂😂😂😂 oh boy lmaooo
I mean, they're going to lose their first round pick next year for tampering. Guaranteed. Maybe they thought this was the only shot to grab a potential future qb.
We don't know that
Eagles too right?
That is hypothetical and unlikely. Making this choice with that in mind is a losers mentality in the NFL. The Buccs and Saints are laughing their asses off right now.
@rct6518 but the question is...will they be laughing if Pennix develope into a franchise QB? Besides, if they draft so the Aints or Bucs don't laugh at them, then they shouldn't been in the NFL.
True could take 2 or 3 picks next year and unless you plan on picking in the top 10 the next few years great move
Good show 👍👍👍 I’m subscribing for your channel now
Happy for Michael. I thought 1-2 teams would pick him in top 15. I just never guessed it would be atlanta lol.
Great segment!
Kirk will be fine, he’s a professional AND he has $100 million GUARANTEED. The Falcons GM outsmarted himself; this is why they shouldve hired Bill
I think it is both a vote of confidence for Kirk while recognizing he won’t be there for super long. It’s a vote of confidence because they are thinking “we won’t be picking high with Kirk as QB”
Atlanta need help on the defensive side of the ball. I have nothing against Michael Pennix jr. But the falcons don't need another qb, they paid Cousins ton of money for the next 2/3 years. They should have traded down to get more picks to strengthen that defense.
Kirk is a old quarterback, coming back from a major leg injury, and had won one playoff game. He chased the money but he was only a temporary fix for the Falcons. The team is making sure it is ready when it decides to move on from Kirk.
Which would be in 2/3 years…..Penix is an old QB (for a rookie) has had 4 separate season ending injuries and hasn’t even been hit by an nfl player yet
It makes sense, but if Kirk knew that he wouldn't have signed with them.
It makes sense if you drafting 21 year old jj not when your draft a 24 year old
If this was the Falcons thinking, why not get Justin Fields for a sixth round pick and use that #8 pick on defense....stupid, stupid move.
@@lamarsmith5971 they don’t like him they never did that’s why despite everyone saying Fields and Falcons for the last 4 years they haven’t done it
At the end of the day boo hoo. You're getting at least $100,000,000 and at least 1 to 2 years to start. Go win some Superbowls and prove em wrong. Kirk is gonna be fine!
"THATS WHAT THE MONEY'S FOR" Still rings true.
I want to see Penix play this year... Atlanta could have had the best defensive player to help their rush.
This is so stupid on 3 levels: 1.Kirk has just signed on and probably thought lets go all out for a ring, probably thought they were going to help him with Odunze but now its the opposite where he'll be looking over his shoulder. 2. The biggest advantage of rookie QBs is their production vs cap hit where you can save about 90% which can load up on other positions. Now you will be hoping he's the guy when he'll be asking for a new contract. 3. It creates a media sh*tstorm and divide the fanbase which is purely self inflicted.
The fanbase literally would have been divided no matter who we picked. We’ve never been on the same page as a fanbase on anything they’ve ever done. Back when they drafted Matt Ryan, most of the fanbase was upset that they didn’t take Glenn Dorsey.
@@Renix360 I dunno from what I've seen this is the most optimistic I've seen ATL fans since the SB loss, why would you intentionally mess that up for an unproven commodity? If they just picked Odunze they'd have had the fans and media on their side.
@@dokedoker3340 Why would they hate him if he's a success?
1. Rich McKay and Arthur Blank are both in the leagues 'inner circle.' Do you *REALLY* think Schefter is out here saying the NFL is going to announce the tampering penalty on Monday, walking it back on Tuesday, and ATL doesn't know they're losing next year's first at minimum? 2. Cousins deal is back loaded. Team has always viewed this as a '2 year lease with option to buy.' Meaning, they were never committed to him beyond the 2025 season. 3. SEA, LV, and NO were reportedly trying to trade up with ATL for #8 TO TAKE PENIX. If you know you're QB shopping in 2026, got no pick in 2025, AND three other teams want the guy -- you take him! 4. Let's be real, the defensive players in this draft would've been fringe firsts in other classes. 3 of the "top" 5 CBs ran 4.5 or slower. Latu is injured guy. Verse and Murphy are good, not great, and Dallas is 'potential.' ATL can realistically get one of Kneeland, Newton, or Michael Hall Jr. at 43 and not lose much in terms of prospect value.
@@denniscarney5249 That's such a defeatist mentality. You could have had Odunze/London/Pitts all under 24 YO and had wild success with Cousins who might want to stick around and restructure after recording a top 5 2 seasons. As for the pick loss you go full tilt at this season and try make sure it's only a #28 or later so its effectively only a 2nd IF they do come down hard on them.
If Cousins does his job whats the problem,
Great pick! Here is why. Penix's best fit can we all agree was the Rams behind Stafford . The Falcons Raheem and McVay are both setup post Stafford in 2 Years. Makes sense! Rams can replace Stafford with either guy Falcons want to move off from for a draft pick. All is good 👍 Remember same offense system.
Why does everyone feel the Falcons owe Kirk an explanation? He's the current starter and Penix is the future. What's the issue? Why do the Falcons have to get a scrub as the backup? If Kirk gets hurt, then what? Cousins needs to man up and play. He got his money and he's 36 and coming off an Achilles injury. He maybe has 2 good years left, if he doesn't get hurt again. I don't like Kirk's contract but here we are.
Just seems like an insane move to do. So the GM effectively told Cousins that he is only going to be a two year player there regardless of how well they and then they'll look to trade him after year 2 when his dead cap hit will be manageable (25 mil) with the hope a team will give up a bunch of picks like the Jets did for Rodgers. That is the only way this pick can even make an ounce of sense (or if Cousins gets injured) because if they do well with Cousins and decide to keep him for his entire contract then this guy's rookie deal is up outside of the 5th year option, along with the fact no high pick rookie will want to be a backup for 4 years. I gather in a case like that, they'd look to trade this guy but it is doubtful they'd get enough in return to justify this pick since other teams would realize they have all the advantage in negotiations. They may bring up the Rodgers/Love scenario but this is not the same thing since Rodgers wasn't just brought in as a high priced fee agent 6 weeks before the draft, nor was Love as old or as high a pick, and Rodgers was also older than Cousins is now. GB also had a better overall team at the time than Atlanta has now. Rodgers was also by that time being a pain in the locker room. Perhaps this does work out for them in the end yet right now it again, just seems like an insane move. It'll be interesting to see how Cousins takes this when it comes time to play, whether he just phones it in or if he takes it as a slight and looks to stick it to them like Rodgers did after they drafted Love.
What did the Jets tell Aaron Rodgers?
The drafting of Penix wasn’t a move to win a championship. It was a calculated move to ensure their record is never bad enough to get both Terry and Morris fired. It was a selfish and cowardly play. Now we the fans pay the price.
Kirk's made lots of money hasn't helped a franchise win. I'm surprised the falcons even wanted Kirk now to begin with
They did tell Kirk they told whole world at end of last year they were going to bring in multiple QBs to compete. They said it again after they signed him😂
Falcons would have been better off not signing cousins, keeping ridder, then drafting penix.
I'm actually curious to see if he plays better with pressure behind him. He's never had a backup that could take his job
Absolutely stupid move. They have numerous weaknesses particularly on defense. They have Kirk Cousins the next FOUR years! WHY NOT DRAFT SOMEONE WHO CAN HELP YOU RIGHT NOW. That's a pretty bold move saying you won't be in this position again. My guess is now you will.
They could have drafted a defensive player to take their defense to an elite level. Instead, they drafted a QB who won’t play for 3 or 4 years. It was a stupid pick.
I agree but.its 2 years not 3 or 4
“You give off Dad energy”😂😂😂
Great move! Let Penix learn from Cousins, plus the most important position in the NFL is …Quarterback and to have 2 of them… plus Cousins is mature enough to understand that this a business! I don’t think he is a Diva like Rodgers was a few years ago!!
I say good job by the Falcons. Good veteran QB, good young QB. That's exactly what you want.
People tend to dislike it because maybe Penix was supposed to go to the Vikings or Broncos 😂😂😂
Everyone is freaking out about the Penix pick but this is the correct way to manage the QB position. The Packers haven't had a QB problem in 40 years bcuz of this method. Patrick Mahomes was drafted under Alex Smith with this method. Rarely do you have a Peyton Manning or Joe Burrow situation. This is the best way to manage the QB position.
wasting the rookie contract .... man what is the GM thinking at times blows my mind.
Penix is starting mid season. If Kirk doesn't want to ride the bench for 100-million, I'll do it. It'll be tough, but I can absolutely do it.
Kirk has already earned a quarter billion dollars, so just saying "he's getting paid" doesn't fix the problem. He signed with the Falcons to WIN, and believed they would be "all-in" on that... hard to believe that when you draft his replacement even before he's taken the field in a Falcons uniform! Ha. As a Bucs fan I approve.
I think it's a good move. I'm a big KC fan, so I'm sure he's scratching his head. This could work in Atlanta's favor though, because Kirk will start and do well for at least two years. If he wins, then he has at least two more years.
I disagree with this narrative. The Falcons are paying real money for Kirk hoping to capitalize on their young talent, but with all aging qbs there is an inherent risk of injury, especially someone coming off of an Achilles injury. Having an insurance policy for an A rated offense is more than reasonable.
Sports media people seem to be over complicating this to milk content. You have a veteran qb who is 35 yrs old. Who also has an established track record as a mercenary, who also just came off a season ending injury. You just came off two years in the qb wilderness because you failed to draft a backup for your last aging qb. The notion that it is somehow crazy to draft a young qb for the future is wild. I’m all for saying, penix is not the qb you would have gone for, or saying you would have traded down, or even that penix is too old but to say it makes no sense because you have Kirk is just a narrative
Regardless how Kirk being average etc, the main point is they drafted pennix as a scapegoat. If their plan fails they can argue put the rookie in for a few years and buy time. Ita called job security
Why draft a guy that can play and help the team win?? - The goal is to draft a guy that will sit on the bench and keep the bench warm. - Bench warmth is far more important than winning on the field.
🤣
Wow, I think this analysis is on point
HOW ABOUT HELPING OUT YOUR CURRENT QB WITH SOME WEAPONS
They have weapons...
As a business man Kirk is fine but as a football player and a competitor it is a slap in the face. Atlanta lied to him to get him to come there to be a bridge quarterback. It's not all about money. It's about being straight up and trustworthy when negotiating with players you're trying to get to play for you.
I agree with part of what you ..... Kirk signed a 4 year, front loaded, contract. If he's the business man you say he is, there is no way he thought he was the long term solution. And I honestly believe that the Falcons wasn't planning on drafting Pennix when they pursued Kirk in free agency. I believe they were blown away by him when they went to Seattle, just to do their diligence. They couldn't tell him their plans ahead of time, cause as he showed at his press conference, Kirk can't hold water. The Falcons are desperate to win now. Kirk affords them that opportunity and he's being compensated like he does. It's a business and a business minded man should understand it.
This is what happens when u just go for the money. Kirk could’ve had a situation what ur talking about if he took less and stayed in min
“Literally a turd in a punch bowl?”. I don’t think literally means what you think it does.
What is all this concern about Kirk's feelings. He's getting paid to do a job. They had no responsibility to inform him about their draft plans. He's being paid to perform on the field not management.
People forget that the NFL is a business, this is business guys, Kirk still gonna get 100 million guaranteed, so money is not the problem, I think Kirk is the bigger man here and he’s gonna be fine , as a falcons fan I just want to see them win no matter who’s the QB, we fans got spoiled with Matt Ryan , let’s go falcons!!
This has Ryan Pace written all over it. He did the same thing when he was GM in Chicago, drafting Trubisky without telling Mike Glennon, their new free agent signing, who was hosting the team’s draft party at the time!
I think these guys are overthinking it. If you have an opportunity to take arguably a quarterback with the résumé, Penix has that is considered a top two or three quarterback and you get him with the eighth pick you have to do it. We paid cousins way too much money, but maybe it was a necessary evil. But if you’re a falcon fan, the most important position on your team looks pretty promising for the future.
If they told Kirk early his agent would have leaked it lol
3 Day 2 Picks. They wil be fine. The falcons will win to many games and displace their draft position after this next year. They take a replacement QB now or they lose the chance to with 11 Wins next season.
ATL disappoints again. Poor "leadership" choice in this GM (and whoever talked themselves into this). Penix could be the Atlanta QB if Cousins gets hurt or in 3 years when Cousins leaves. Just dumb to pick a backup QB with the #8 this year. They could have got an impact player for this season or trade back for +2 additional picks later...nope, lets get a backup QB that probably wont play for ~2/3 years. Not a good feeling for the "future" Falcons for me. They are going to waste 2+ more years of Bijon.
The only reason people think this is a stupid pick is because the contract they gave Cousins in the first place was stupid. Couple that with taking a QB in the top 10 and it really looks questionable. When you think about it though, the defense was already good last year (I think they were barely out of the top 10 ranking) and they've got quite a few playmakers on offense. Their offensive line is solid. They already don't use Pitts enough as it is, so it's not like they were gonna take Bowers. I don't really see a problem with the pick. I see a problem with giving an aging, hasn't accomplished anything and is returning from a serious injury, Kirk Cousins that kind of guaranteed money. I am not a Falcons fan though, so what do I know.
Why didn't they tell Kirk? The guy that blew the lid in his presser after picking him up in free agency?!
People completely overlook this. They had to speed up the replacement process cuz Kirk a snitch 😂. They losing a pick for tampering
Wonder if they can trade Cousins before the season, his deal isn’t as bad as people make it sound. It’s really a two year deal that you can get out of fairly easily after one year if needed.
Great move , 1st knowing how to handle yourself on the Mic (tampering ) for a 12 year vet with 3 big contracts already not to smart, 2nd he will be Pushed x Penix to be his best which is great for the Falcons 3rd it’s a long season and who ‘s ready for Hineke part 2 alsoPenix throws laser strikes to receivers 4th They will find ways to insert Penix in this offense this year .
Penix isn't a threat. Barring injury, it's inevitable that Penix will be the starting QB of the Atlanta Falcons, it's just a matter of when.
Please. This is totally the wrong frame. Cousins has an Achilles injury at 36. If he thought the Falcons were going to hang everything on him and his recovery and the probability of lesser performance and/or re-injury, then he is not smart enough for $180 million and what they hired him for. No matter what the Falcons say this is a successor plan and insurance. Cousins can put it to rest by healing, performing at past levels, and leading the Falcons to victory. Penix gets a great mentor. Cousins gets a protege. I think the ‘locker room’ insights are valid. Cousins will have to find a different way to ‘vibe.’ He says he’s an “elevator.” Now, let’s see.
They thought this GM and HC pair was better than Belichick. That’s what I find hilarious.
This is nothing but media trying to stir CRAP! Kirk will be an excellent mentor for Penix and hopefully bring ATL wins immediately. Falcons, lets get some defence now!
As a Bucs fan, This smells like a Rahim Morris decision.
Honestly it’s amazing safety valve but if Cousins get injured and Penix balls out then there’s problem
Penix just going to work on Tuesdays when kirk takes the day off 😂
Kirk wants a ring PERIOD. He’s going to play at his best ability. Kirk is a player, not a front office employee.
“We’re gonna be back around 25 or 26 draft pick in the future…”. Yes and guess where penix was projected to go? Mid 20’s in 1st round. SMH
As a falcons fan I hated it at first and hate it less the more I think about it. I don’t love it still but I think the organization decided they don’t want when Kirk is done to suck again.
BUT WE HAVE SHIT OF A DEFENSE...FALCONS WILL BE BACK IN TOP 10 AGAIN NEXT YEAR
Cousins has ALWAYS been the guy who can win games but only take a team so far. For this kind of play, he has been paid very, very handsomely. He's in his mid 30s now so this might be his last stop. Enjoy your money, Kirk, and hope you don't get injured. If you're that offended, then just outplay the rookie.
give me a break - the team's long term plans are more important than an old, injured (one playoff win) QB
If your season depends on a first round pick then you simply aren't good enough. You can never fault a team for taking a QB they fall in love with. They are 100% correct. They might not have another chance to draft a QB they love. Cousins, just like Florio, needs to stop being so entitled.
I know Mike has been big on tampering punishment , do you think behind the scenes the punishment has been administered that Fontenot has to make draft picks and Raheem Morris has to be their head coach ?
The video from the war room of Blank talking to the GM 1:1 after that Penix pick sure looked like that GM is in trouble
Highly doubt it. You’re not making that type of draft pick without the owner knowing, especially in the first round. The owner is the one paying these guys
Ya that pick was pretty bad. Not a very good way to start a relationship with a QB you just signed for $180 million. Save yourself all that money and take Russ or Fields if you were gonna draft Penix. Plus Penix is old already. I don't get it. I'm just glad the Vikings had a good night! SKOL!
I doubt it lol. The GM is good. It wouldn’t have been my first pick
Blank is fully aware that Atlanta will penalized by the league for the tampering allegations, and that it will cost them at least their 1st round pick in next years draft. Blank practically admitted it last week.
They don't have to tell Kirk Sh*t... That 100 million guarantee should speak enough. If it's if his butt hurts after that, tell him to give the money back and go somewhere else😂
I’m a falcons fan and I love the pick. We set up for the future. And the present. What’s the problem?
I'm happy for Micheal! This could be ideal for him and Kirk did get paid!
what about the team?
Falcons did good
Yall r hilarious ! Tha kid is gonna take 2 seasons til he's ready ! Cousins gets 2 solid years of play then Michael Penix Jr takes ova ! They went & got thrr QB fa tha future cuz they knew he wuznt gonna be available afta tha 1st round ! Genius ! Thrr setup fa years to come ! They can build around tha QB position now !
I don’t usually use a player’s money to dismiss their feelings but cmon now😂. Kirk has looked out for himself when it comes to getting the most money of these teams. He’s set himself up for the future. Why can’t a team do the same? I think the pick is one of the dumbest picks I’ve seen, but this whole idea of Kirk’s feelings being hurt is funny because he’s always looked out for himself in the long run (I don’t blame him).
It's up to KC to keep MPJR seated.
This is why some teams never win. They could have helped there team in so many ways.
Maybe they didn’t trust what Cousins might say based on his comments when he signed
He's 35. If Kirk thinks he the future of the team he's not very bright. He was a placeholder. If he thought any different is a dumb and a rock.
"big boy league" doesn't mean you get to lie to people and expect them to be happy about it.
Putting the cart ahead of the horse
This should motivate Kirk to become better than a one playoff win GUY. If this doesn’t help him then Penix will take over.
Big Kirko going to the Super Bowl! Penix will be there 3 years later.💪🏽😎
Slander of Cousin needs to stop. Dude has been top 10-15 QB for a decade.
Kirk Cousins made more money in 12 seasons than Tom Brady has in 23. Kirk Cousins has ONE playoff victory, Tom Brady has 35 and 10 super bowl appearances. Tom Brady didn't leave New England for more money, he left because he wanted to win. Kirk cousins will leave your team because he wants more money and does not care about winning. Kirk is the ONLY player in the NFL that takes an extra day off during the week. These are facts, the opposite of slander.
What’s funny is I’m old enough to remember this is how it was always done. Team has veteran quarterback, young guy gets drafted and sits for a few years to learn. In today’s world that’s just blasphemy 😂
If they been had Kirk you could probably say this but you go out and get Kirk and he hasn’t played a down for your franchise. You don’t know what you have in him. So to already be thinking to move off of him is disrespectful. So to your point it’s always been done the right way. This was not the right way by far. Brett Favre and Aaron Rodgers’s were clearly 10 years into the franchise before their successors came. You know what you have in them and you know what you’re moving off of. You also didn’t just sign them to 180 million minutes ago. Way different situation. If Kirk was 2 years into this contract this pick would have gotten different reactions, but think you sign Kirk you don’t make your team better in free agency then you draft penix. You already don’t have a defense so that pick shuts the door on your Super Bowl hopes. Also we never know what the future holds. For all we know penix could be a bust, but the chance to win a Super Bowl was open if you draft a generational defensive talent at 8. Now you miss a clear chance to maybe win a superbowl to play around with hopes of the future. Hope and future doesn’t win rings. No telling when this good of a chance will be back. That’s why the good teams are good and the bad teams stay bad. Moves like this.
