About The Dark Knight Trilogy:
#BatmanBegins: Acclaimed director Christopher Nolan explores the origins of the legendary Dark Knight. In the wake of his parents' murders, disillusioned heir #BruceWayne (#ChristianBale) travels the world seeking the means to fight injustice and turn fear against those who prey on the fearful. With the help of his trusted butler Alfred (#MichaelCaine), Detective #JimGordon (#GaryOldman) and his ally #LuciusFox (#MorganFreeman), Wayne returns to Gotham City and unleashes his alter ego: Batman, a masked crusader who uses strength, intellect and an array of high-tech weaponry to fight the sinister forces that threaten the city.
The Dark Knight: The follow-up to Batman Begins, The Dark Knight reunites director Christopher Nolan and star Christian Bale, who reprises the role of Batman/Bruce Wayne in his continuing war on crime. With the help of Lt. Jim Gordon (Gary Oldman) and District Attorney #HarveyDent (#AaronEckhart), Batman sets out to destroy organized crime in Gotham for good. The trio proves effective. But soon the three find themselves prey to a rising criminal mastermind known as #TheJoker (#HeathLedger), who thrusts Gotham into anarchy and forces Batman closer to crossing the fine line between hero and vigilante.
#TheDarkKnightRises: Eight years ago, after assuming the blame for D.A. Harvey Den's death, a disgraced Batman (Christian Bale) mysteriously vanished. But everything changes with the appearance of a cunning cat burglar (#AnneHathaway) and the arrival of #Bane (#TomHardy), a ruthless madman. Bane's reign of terror forces Bruce out of his self-imposed exile and into the ultimate battle for #GothamCity's survival.and his own.

Nolan gave us a comic masterpiece we might never see again.
Machel Eddy I’m starting to think we might see something close in 2021 with The Batman 👀
And what’s awesome is Christopher Nolan’s resume. He got a degree in English literature, yet made a short film called “Following.” That short film’s success let him direct “Memento” and “Insomnia.” He only had 3 films under his belt because his directorial approach (our concept of reality, epistemology, metaphysics) and he was granted the HONOR to create this trilogy. NOTE: I think Batman Begins, Dark Knight, and The Dark Knight Rises are all amazing FILMS. But as Batman movies, “Batman Begins” takes the cake for me.
@@rileybrooks6212 Not even close.
Alexander Kings agreed. Nolan’s trilogy set the bar for adding cinematic realism to comic book movies. But his directorial and writing approach is always based on our sense of reality, epistemology, and metaphysics, yet done in an artistic way that is digestible. To this day, so many studio executives are trying to replicate this filmmaking style, which is why a lot of studio-mandated films that TRY end up failing.
@Alexander Kings you don’t think it will be the next Great Batman trilogy?
The Nolan Batman trilogy really changed the game

"It's not about merchandise" Disney : *gulp*
hehe :-)
I mean, it depends how literal you want to go with that. If you're talking about toys and whatnot, okay, but it's still very much about making money. That is the #1 operating principle of any movie studio, even WB at the time of these. So it's not like there's some broad purity with which any company can stand above another. Mind you I don't say this as a sort of criticism against WB and for these films, I'm a huge Christopher Nolan fan and loved his Batman trilogy (well the ambition more with #3 than its actual quality). It's easy to forget the massive trepidation and doubt that was surrounding the whole Marvel thing when they started. But when it proved so successful and a trajectory was established I can't really blame Disney for indulging into that anscillary market, it's not like having some toy line had the films themselves be sacrificed.
It’s not about merchandising, it’s about sending a message.........
This world deserves a better class of franchise, and I’m gonna give it to ‘em.

Mcu reached the height of their career in endgame and even that can’t top this. @@yourmomshouse6984 Agree. kind of slow for a fight scene. For me when I watch Nolan movie, is all about the story and the wow effect.
Its also one of the best movies overall not just superhero movie
As much as anyone might differentiate between a trilogy and a "shared universe", Marvel absolutely wound up with the former in the MCU. They may be continuing in their phases, but there are enough milestones in their own meta-story to categorize Phases 1, 2, and 3 as its own super trilogy. The thing about consuming a story is that a self-contained tale with a definitive ending to any significant degree will always resonate with readers, viewers, and gamers.

One of the best behind the scenes I have seen to date. So much detail went into these movies . They resonate , they are beauty art and passion . Wonderful .
I agree. I came here after watching a "behind the scenes" look at CGI which was made well-nigh unwatchable, given the condescending script and tone of the videos presenter, who attempted to ridicule the performances of brilliant actors as being silly & laughable (because the actors are acting with someone in a green or blue suit/wearing stilts or any such pre CGI gear as is necessitated by the process. The subject matter interested me...the horribly negative, disrespectful & petty tone detracted from my enjoyment of the information, guaranteeing I would watch no other offerings from that site. It was, however, a "fortuitous mistake" on my part, as it motivated me to search "behind the scenes" in Google to seek out INTERESTING and in depth pieces on the subjects that interest me. The eloquence of the various interviewees elevates this video (which is of far greater length) to something far beyond others....succinctly describing the differences between the approach to these films as opposed to that of other franchises.

Guillermo del toro : Christopher Nolan is an "Emotional Mathematician" What a beautiful quote 🙂
I'd say he's a narrative mathematician who knows how to use that skill to emotional effect. The thing he's mathematical about is constructing these puzzle-box narratives with all these different layers, all these philosophical ideas being wrestled with in a way that's fascinating and exciting. He knows how to layer emotional depth into that, which is what makes his films succeed. But emotion isn't the part he's being mathematical about. I'd say Marvel movies are closer to that, where they figure out how to make all the Avengers have interesting dynamics with each other while still driving the main story forward and keeping things lighthearted and funny.
Got me too
I think thats the main problem with his films. There's no emotional connection in his films. Honestly Iron Man 1, Spider-man 2, Logan and Joker are much better than The Dark Knight. Nolan better make character driven films like Prestige again instead of making one-dimensional character driven films with plot holes.
When he strikes out with emotional connection he really strikes out (Tenet, anyone???) And he's clearly a filmmaker who's more interested in imagery, structure, and tone than in connecting you with a character's experience. There's always this sense that things are whizzing by and we're never just 'sitting' with any one character and really getting inside their head. But Dark Knight has incredible emotion: the Joker is a paragon of chaos, his madness and total lack of rules keeps you in so much fear. Don't tell me that film's not driven by a character, that character just isn't the protagonist!
Nolan hit the nail on head from the beginning with the quote, "As a man, I'm flesh and blood, I can be ignored, I can be destroyed; but as a symbol... as a symbol I can be incorruptible, I can be everlasting." Batman is symbol. Batman could be anybody. That was the difference between Nolan's trilogy and all other comic book movies.

This "Behind the Scenes" is better than the last Star Wars Movies together.
They've been a joke and ruined a series. How they made the prequels look sensible is insane
I rather go solo in my room alone standing than watch han solo stand alone movie
I agree The Prequel movies were trash
Better than all of star wars together..
I agree but what does that have to do with this
Fans: "We never said Thank You for the Dark Knight Trilogy. " Nolan: "And you'll never have to. " #THANKYOUNOLAN
This film ruined many other superhero films. Hacks like Snyder tried to copy it without putting in the care and love that made these films special. #THANKYOUNOLAN
well played.
My eyes got a bit watery now...
@@yousirareahypocrite4464 Nolan Batman movies are great because he played it safe by following silly comic book rules like no killing. Nolan never attempts to make anything wierd not even try to do something like Lady Killers/Shazam. He never comes out of his safe zone. Snyder atleast tried to do something different, it didn't work it's fine.
Nolantards learn character driven films I see what your saying, but Batman’s number one rule is no killing. It’s okay to make unique versions of the character but you still have to follow certain things that make the character what it is.
Batman was my favorite superhero when I was growing up. I used to watch the old Batman movies in the 80's and 90's but they were nothing like TDK trilogy. Because of these movies I started to have this passion and love for superheroes and comic book movies. The dark and realistic vibe with the great story telling and performances really was special and I think after this people took superhero movies seriously.
I don't care what anyone says, this is the greatest trilogy in all of film history.
LOTR too!!! I like both
@@JessePinkman-qy5udYep agreed lord of the rings is up there too
People may disagree with me but for me this trilogy set up the legacy of Batman outside comics. If it wasn't for this trilogy Batman movies would have been just another live action comic movies which comes and fades away with time but this right here is something which will go down in the history of superhero movies as a gold standard and a true justice to the legacy of Batman.
Nolan saved batman
Only a fool would disagree with you. Not even Clooney would disagree with u lol.
It’s become an icon even outside of superhero movies
The dark Knight was the only reason we care about batman. I'm not sure on the math but he takes things like batman and dunkirk.... You know... I'm lost even here
Yeah, I have no doubt Matt Reeves Batman would never been greenlit if it wasn't for Nolans proceeding it. The trailer for that seems to push the theme in even stranger territory. You have to thank Nolan for opening these doors.
If only there was a way to describe the feeling I had when I walked out of the theater after watching The Dark Knight. I honestly felt like I witnessed a true masterpiece in cinematic form.
You did
These movie's blew my mind.🤯
18:50 this is whats wrong with every studio. people will watch anything if you make it right
I also will never forget the feeling I had, when the closing titles and music came up at the end of The Dark Knight. first time seeing it, it's an incredible movie only few movies come even close as a first-view-experience.
I think the dark knight trilogy are the only films I’ve ever genuinely finished and instantly seen it as a pure masterpiece. Still rewatch them all the time nowadays
Heath... your performance will never be forgotten. Sensational.
I never heard the Del Toro quote of "Emotional Mathematics" to describe Nolan. I feel that sums up the experience of his movies so perfectly. It also encapsulates why some love his movies, and others find them cold. Some expect just emotion, others just want clinical, technically perfect films (e.g. Kubrick). Nolan blends the two, but isn't perfect at either. However, for a large number of people (including myself) it's a great blend
10 years later this is still one of the best films made.
Ofc
better than Meet the Spartans?
15 years 👍🏼
@@FoodforThought12345678dsds idk, Meet the Spartans is truly a masterclass in filmmaking
10 years later and Warnerbros had not topped this trilogy.
The lack of appreciation Cillian gets for his Scarecrow is heartbreaking . Crane was such an important plot device and despite being just a plot device , his Scarecrow was menacing and charming at the same time.

Absolutely timeless and epic. Chris Nolan will go down in cinematic history as one of the greatest visionaries to contribute to the medium.
I love Christopher Nolan. His vision of filmmaking is next level.
We want Heath's behind the scenes.
Yeah it's so irritating, its been over 10 years and Warnerbros are hoarding all of Heaths TDK behind the scenes Its definitely been long enough
51:13
@@Vleeslucht What I'm specifically talking about is hearing Heaths coversations with the cast and crew behind the scenes, we've never heard any of this. I seriously think it would be fascinating to hear him when hes out of character.
Asteelo paparazzi Yeah, there’s absolutely footage out there probably locked away in a vault. Every movie nowadays always has BTS of the actor in his trailer talking to a camera, explaining what and why they’re doing it or getting the Joker makeup on. It was definitely filmed and why they haven’t released any of that over a decade later is startlingly disrespectful to his memory in my opinion.
@@BloodyFlowerFilms Thank you my sentiments exactly, I couldn't have worded it better myself. Warner Bros are holding on to Heaths classic reels selfishly and we'll probably never get to see them.
Best Batman and superhero films
The batman of my childhood. I agree with you 100%.
Batman Begins came on tv last night and I just had to sit down and watch the whole thing... again. Only gripe with this feature is how could you not have a huge segment devoted to Hans Zimmer's music?
Yep that music is an important part of the trilogy 👍👍
Maybe he didn't want to get featured in the documentary. Even Talia al Ghul's character is not touched upon. Maybe it was by choice.
The "Behind The Scenes" is just as epic as the whole series. Period.
Are Frank "Riddler" Gorshin and Scott "Variety" Foundas dhe same person??
Believe me Matt Reeves' Batman will be character driven and not plot hole driven like this trilogy
@@lickenhuntsman5338 Matt Reeves batman wont be better than nolans

I feel Hans Zimmer played a major part in the movie helping Nolan.
It's very important part what he played. It's disrespectful not to include him in this making video.
Especially considering it was playing in the background the entirety of this feature.
And James Newton Howard. People forget him
inception and interstellar too
The level of precision and people involved in making one movie is incredible.
This trilogy has a holy fanbase which will break the day 1 records of the Batman if it's played again in theatres . It can be everlasting
How come they didn't talk about Han Zimmers score.
Because the documentary whould have had to be stretched out another 3 or 4 hours. There is SO MANY amazing things to be said about hans zimmer's score in these movies.
@@_Filmosophy_ I was bout to say the same things.
Earth _3_Darkness it’s a huge part of what made these movies so great. They definitely should have talked about it
It plays in the background through the whole length.
Finally a man of culture! I was looking for this comment. A word for Zimmer wouldn’t have costed them an hour, if they could run some unknown guy auditioning who wasn’t even in the movie anyway later on.
jim gordon the most underrated part of this trilogy what an actor
Right?! His performance is VERY underrated and helped shape the legacy of this trilogy. More respect to his name people!
Gary Oldman nailed that role, and the dynamic/relationship between Gordon and Batman was written and portrayed so masterfully. What a great charcter arc on it's own. Each of Batman's/Bruce's relationships in the trilogy are so well fleshed out, you really get to know these characters. Like they said in this documentary, The Dark Knight Trilogy transcends being just a comic book movie, it truly is a masterpiece of film.
@@racheljohnson7177 Exactly he was such an important bridge between batman and gothem and the main symbol of belief and hope and that has to be done so correct to make the story have feeling and attachment
what about Alfred????
@@sammyhax oh him too. Michael Caine delivered and emotional performance and through him we got to see a dynamic between Bruce and Alfred that we've never seen before on screen. Nolan really utilized Alfred's character, not just as a butler, but as a mentor. Alfred was the only family Bruce had left in the world, the only one who understood him as a human being, not as an heir to a corporation. And in this trilogy he was more than just a loyal servant. Before Ras A Ghul he was the person who taught Bruce what a true legacy was and how to look beyond himself to turn into something better than he was. That is why he is so great in this story.
If there's any superhero movie that deserved an academy award nomination for best picture...it's definitely this movie. No CGI, no corny comedy, and just great writing and cinematography.
Uh, yeah, there is corny comedy, usually awkward one liners from cops reacting to Batman.
No cgi so you telling bats do respond to batman and all those buildings trains did explode
Im a fan of the trilogy, but I must say the casting did a great deal of the heavy lifting. Nailed it all the way through.
Yes!!! Can't say much more than that
Not a hate comment, but Marvel would never reach this level. Dark Knight trilogy will always be above MCU. THIS IS A MASTERPIECE

Sam Raimi's Spiderman too
What was great about this trilogy is that it was the first superhero films that was really set in a reality that is common to us, that wasn't so far fetching and cartoonish as others that came before. It's like our reality PLUS a little bit more but not too much. Batman/ Bruce Wayne was at the core of it, a human, and thats what made this excellent and thats how superhero movies followed suit. Breaking down the powers, the money, the power and just having something human which we relate to easily. Honestly, Nolan and his team are such visionaries. Really making timeless modern classics.
The Dark Knight Trilogy is one of the best things ever made
'It's not a Batman movie, we're making a Chris Nolan movie'
Yeah, i really was repeating that one in my head too!
Unpopular opinion: Nolan Batman movies are great because it played safe by following silly comic book tropes. Zack Snyder movies may have been misfire but atleast he tried something out of box instead of making one-dimensional character who follows silly rules. Now Matt Reeves' Batman is not only afraid of going to darker places but the movie is going to be great.
@@lickenhuntsman5338 I appreciate that you understand that your opinion is unpopular, i respectfully disagree with the first part though. Nolan was not bound by comic book tropes, but he purposefully bound himself by a single question of how to make this character relatable in the context of the real world and NOT a comic book world.
