Awesome Headphones, Do you think the Samson Sr850 are good for Mixing and Mastering, If not what do you Recommend at it's price range? I really need a pair of headphone for Mixing and Mastering but can't afford the one's I have seen in your series of reviews, so far so good the best recommendation I have had which I believe I can afford for the time being are the Samson's SR850's.

I had the 280's and sorta loved how insanely long the cable was. I wound up getting the 300 once I either broke or lost the others, and I think I literally broke the 300's bc the cable was so much shorter I stood up from my computer and ripped the chord out of my computer totally damaging the wires

I love my Massdrop Sennheiser HD6XX that I bought for a steal at $200, but it always wants an amp to sound amazing. The HD 300 Pro set that I inherited from my dad is a good stand in though and is a solid competitor to the IEMs I use for workouts (KZ-AS12)
HD6XX is what I would recommend the most. You essentially get the same build- and sound quality as HD650 but 250$ cheaper. It's worth the purchase even if you don't live in the US.

Two very important thing you left out about the HD600 and HD650. They both perform much better when driven with an amp. The HD600 at 300Ohms really performs well with a tube amp. The HD650 at 150Ohms will work with most any amp.
I found a vast majority of headphones are like that regardless of impedance.
The 650 is 300 ohms
Great comparison review - I have the HD 300 currently and toggle, sometimes, between them and a pair of Beyer DT 250 which maybe are a tad more neutral. The sound of the HD 650 looks like it would be ideal for me - however I don't want open back as I want to havethe isolation and privacy too - is there a headphone that matcheds the 650 but is closed back?
my mix is always with too much mids and bass not ok with the hd600 ..... i dont have this problem with hd280.

Nice presentation except , HD600 reproduces the bas instrument much more life like than 650. The midrange on 650 is pushed back so bass quantity comes forward as a result, but, there is no definition to the bass instrument playing like HD 600 does. This is my result of owning 5 pairs of each model through 4 years, with class A and tube headphone amps. So, my choice is HD600 powered with OTL tubes.

Best mid range Sennheisers(or any other) are HD 400pro/hd560s. Both are same headphones, 400 pros are slightly re marketed
I slightly preferred the HD300 over the 280, and despite the downhill response I was able to achieve a reasonable mix - mostly eq-ing old records TBH these days. I felt the HD 650's would have an ideal balance but were open backed -so after listening ad nausium on various sites I opted for a pair of Beyer DT 700 ProX these straight away stuck me as a good and natural balance and I forget about them and focus on the music

The drop 6xx is exactly the same as a 650.its just a different color. So basically a 650

Had some AKG K371’s they were also the best headphones I’ve ever used for 3 months until the right side just died. Sure, I probably don’t need $500 headphones, But I need headphones that will last. sep 29th 2022 edit: I've recently purchased a Sennheiser HD25 and they have been going very well so far for the first month of usage. no signs of damage or any change in sound
I had a pair of HD 200 Pro headphones which was my first "studio" headphone. It is underwhelming, and lacks clarity and definition. Had to switch to a pair of MDR-7506's, which in my opinion, sounds WAY better with better defintion for mixing.

I'm a speaker guy, not a headphone guy. I always have been, and always will be. But, like any proper audiophile, I felt the need to have a set of decent headphones in my arsenal, just in case I ever had a "wild hair" up my ass. After auditioning 14 different headphones from 8 different manufacturers (ranging from $100 to $1,000), I firmly landed on the Sennheiser HD650. IMHO they are the absolute best, most . . . "musical" headphones you can buy for the money.

For gaming you might want something with a mic. All of these would be incredible for gaming though.

Sony 7506 the best headphones bar none…hands down!
if i mix on my sony .... my final mix will miss trebles .... and the bass not very good.
HD 560s is miles better than that and any others in the price range

$200 - $300 for a headphone is super duper high for me. I have never owned a headphone costing more than $10, really. $1 equals Rs. 72 here in India, so a headphone costing $10 = Rs. 720 is very good.

As I am from India I would for sure say that Rs. 5000 ($69 nice) gives the best value for money. I would surely recommend you to try a little pricier headphones. I have the Audiotechnica ATH-M20x

@@omkardaivajna My friend has the m20x and it's very good for the money. I myself have Beyerdynamic 990DT's (around 200 dollars). And even though I don't have an interface yet, I still make very clean mixes imo. Before you ask why I don't have an interface for these headphones, well, the truth is that I got it from my grandpa, he's an inventor and he worked with audio a lot back in the day and he still had these. Despite being more than 15 years old I believe, they still sound amazing

HD280 - horrible, horrible sounding headphone. Veiled, tubby. Will make you want to give up audio/ mixing. HD600 - makes everything sound great. If mixing with them...really...REALLY hard to dial in a BAD sound. Everything is layered in a warm nice blanket. Virtually impossible to get good mixes if you don't seriously know what you're doing. Beginners...if you've heard the HD600/650 are the holt grail of mixing...they're NOT. Don't waste your money.
