Welcome to today's video where you saw the restoration of antique dressers with a series of drawers on short legs.
Antique furniture and chests of drawers have an interesting history.
In the past, people often bought antique furniture for modern interiors.
A combination of modern and antique furniture is popular today.
Styles that are popular include 1st Republic design, art-deco functionalism, and even socialist-era style.
Antique chests of drawers are highly valued pieces of furniture and can come from different periods and styles such as Baroque, Rococo, Empire or Art Nouveau.
These chests of drawers are made of high-quality wood and decorated with details from different types of veneer. This technique is called marquetry.
The word intarsia means insertion in Arabic. It is a technique that they already used in Egypt.
Exceptionally beautiful marquetry was born in the Italian Renaissance, where temples were mainly decorated with richly inlaid patterns. This Italian style spread throughout Europe.
Inlay can be seen on various wooden objects, including chests of drawers, tables, cabinets, musical instruments. This technique makes it possible to create complex and detailed patterns that give furniture and objects a unique and luxurious look. The marquetry at Lešná Castle is also significant.

    • I disagree. If this is a true antique you don’t want to put alcohol on that old wood. It is too drying. Better to use plain soap and water. And especially if the piece is veneered as this one looks to be. Just an old antique collectors words of advice. Take them or leave them as you wish.

  • I often wonder why are your videos so satisfying to watch. It must be a combination of your restoration techniques that are so respectful of the original artististry and craftsmanship, your own skill and passion for this work, and the sheer joy of seeing such antique beauty restored to its former glory.   • This is a beautiful restoration. Making over the top restorations and leaving the patina, and where the piece appears to have been "well cared for" rather than "made to look new again", it's like breathing life into a respected and admired old friend.   • The perfect piece to work on. Those drawers and the frame and "bones" of the thing were in GREAT shape. Whomever built this long ago did a great job. It just needed a to have the outside restored and all the beauty of the wood highlighted. Sure that was a LOT of work. But the results speak for themselves.

  • I haven’t even finished your video, and I am so impressed with your technique and the great care you take to restore, as opposed just to improve appearance!   • Good restoration job. It is my opinion that veneer repairs and joinery repairs should be made with hide glue so that they can be reversed for future repairs.
