We review the Genesis GV60, the newest electric car in the lineup. While this may share many things with the Ioniq5, EV6, and even Ioniq6, this luxury performance SUV has plenty of interesting features. With fuel costs rising EVs are a quick fix for the pricing issues. We discuss the good and bad of the performance, handling, and technical features. Others to drive are the VW ID4, Mustang Mach E, BMW I4, Tesla Model Y, and Mercedes EQS.

I'm getting this just so I can store my fentanyl in the passanger door mirror adjustment cap.
fentanyl floyd would have appreciated it.
Thanks for the pin my broskis. I've been itching to ask you to put some time into explaining how chassis rigidity is calculated. I always hear numbers like "23%" stiffer (example), but have a hard time imagining how that's calculated. Do manufacturers have jigs that measure torsional resistance of car chassis? That would make a nice subject for a technical episode.
@@marekd.7350 Check the "stiffness" wikipedia article for the formulas of torsional/rotational/shear rigidity. Although it's not a complete answer as I'd assume those formulas would only work for a single beam of a chassis. On another note, I feel like it turned into another marketing catchphrase simply because of the fact that the average joe/jane doesn't even know what the term means or why you'd want a stiffer body structure and how it affects the overall driving experience.
I googled stiffness and got in trouble at work
Valid
First reviewer to mention the override for the crystal shifter. That thing had me nervous contemplating what to do if it failed. Glad to hear Genesis thought about that.
Don’t worry it’s hot topic in Korea as we had many accidents with sticking accelerator and some with dash cam video of proof but Hyundai denied all of it.
Fun fact: 50% of engineering is figuring out how users could fuck up your product, and building ways to prevent/alleviate that.
@@kdavid123186 happened in america, was a young guy lol at the highway
@@joem4869 it’s been going on for years. First was genesis models catching fire middle of drive which was also overlooked by Hyundai. Electric models like ion has been catching fire while charging and it happened so much that some charging stations in Korea banned them from using the station. Everything I said is well documented online and on KZhead as video evidence but of course no recalls or change has been made.
My guess If you read the owner’s manual it will be mentioned.
Really appreciate how much time you spend on the interior - controls, cubbyholes, usability, etc.
That slow motion near-death experience was one of the greatest things ever captured on film.
All the super cars they're driven, and an EV CUV is what comes the closest to killing them lol
Uuuuhhhh hoooohooohooohoooo
It was so genuine
Rewatching this video just for that segment.
@@Trio3224 it's always the quiet ones you least suspect.
I'm impressed that you mention the positives as well as the negatives. Most other reviews only talk about positives and gloss over negatives for fear of sponsor backlash.
Welcome to KZhead lol
but for 60k, the Lyriq is the vehicle to get.
Some laws cannot be broken. This is the same reason why good journalism needs to be independent. (And not merely self-labeling, but you gotta check for proof.) SG can do the reviews in their style because they don't run after corporate carrots on sticks.
@@louiearmstrong It doesn't qualify for the $7.5k credit. That and no chance I'm ever getting a first gen GM product. I'd consider it 4th gen or after.
This guy chooses to be negative on purpose in my opinion
Best honest technical review on KZhead. I own a GV-60 for a week now. A real everyday delight. I have previously owned, BMW, AUDI, MERCEDES, PORSCHE and so far, the GENESIS is my favorite. All those guys said is true. Not a sports car, a bit scary in tight turns at speed. Definitely not a Macan. But this is not why I bought it. I don’t drive those tight turns. I am just happy to be in front of everyone in a straight line when needed, highway, red lights. The tech is out of this world, the ride smooth and peaceful. The sound system great when you tune it to your test properly. So for my taste and needs I give it a 9 out of 10. Know what you want and need. If your looking for a sports car and have the budget, go with the Taycan or wait for the electric Macan. Electric Macan should be a real delight. But at Porsche, options, service, all very expensive. GV-60 comes fully loaded. No options to pay. Super extensive 5 years warranty. I am happy !
Very well said , I have a GV 60 love the car hard to find any fault with it its on parr with BMW, Audi , Mercedes and i think its snapping at the heals of the Taycan I have 2 friends with Taycan's they love them great car but the price is just too much for me.
Maybe driving with the software aids on will make a big difference?
It’s been 8 months of driving now. Still loving it. So many things to love about it. I learned to drive it around tight curves and it’s much better than I thought in the beginning. This reviewer is totally off track regarding the facial recognition. It works 100%. No need to bend down at all like he acts in this video and it recognized you with sunglasses, with a hat, when it’s raining. And it is not a gimmick. Although I don’t need to use it everyday, I use it often enough to really appreciate it when I need it. The crystal sphere is also not a gimmick. On a review like this one, many items you cannot appreciate. Only daily use for while makes you appreciate many of the features in this car. I also disagree with his review of the sound system. Fiddling a little bit with the available tuning available, you will make it sound astounding. Especially that this cabin is so quiet. I have much more to say about this car but that’s it for today !
They have probably had several software updates since the review.
Savage is the perfect description of these two laughing like maniacs after a near crash experience, and doing it again a few minutes after 🤣. Also, Mark had no intention to really let Jack go through the luxury part of the car, he just wanted him to talk and shut him up by trying to kill him on the turn. What a duo 👏👏.
Jack's inner Hank Hill came out at that moment. AHH
That slowed down “scene” was HILARIOUS!! Planes, Trains and Automobiles vibe!
This might be one of your best reviews yet. I have literally no interest in buying one of these but your review is so thorough, interesting, and funny. I always hit the like button before I watch because you two never disappoint.
I agree. This video blew me away on so many levels. 👍👍👍
This video was a good example of how Id prefer to do most traditional videos. Glad it worked.
@@savagegeese so from now on you and Jack will try to kill each other from an heart attack on every video? 😅
Mark, you're out of the loop. That removable cap on the passenger door actually exposes a glans scanner to be used as backup if the other biometric devices malfunction. It's capable of registering up to four phalli at multiple levels of tumescence.
Hahahahahahahaha! Too good sir. You made my day. Thanks. Cheers!
So am I.
“G L A N S S C A N N E R”
Who wouldn't be "out of the loop though"? Sounds RIDICULUS to me.
haha
'KERS / MGU-K (Obscure Reference)' Telltale signs of a quality video
Your usual comprehensive (and thoroughly honest) review. No one I’ve seen does as perceptive a driving review as you.
You spent a ton of time on the interior review, and that’s just my favorite thing. Thx.
I love you guys. Highly entertaining, and you are cognizant of that. You come from a performance point of view, and acknowledge that fact, and set performance aside when appropriate. You appropriately apply measures of a vehicle to judge it, which many automotive journalists are not good at. So many will complain about performance, like they are comparing an SUV road handling to a sports car, when you should not do that. Mention it, then understand what the tool is for, and weight your score as needed. Great job. And the car is nice too
16:35 I think Jack is on point... this is not a 'sport car'. this is a 'premium car' that happens to be SUPER quick which makes you play it as a sport car.
Yeah. It needs some N love to properly make it sporty.
Exactly, and to be fair to the gv60, it should be noted that they took off the traction control while skidding around
69 degree fahrenheit, nice touch. you guys are the best automotive journalists in existence
Great channel. I was LMFAO for the slow mo part. Keep up the good work boys!
Thanks for all the content guys, you are the best.
I will say. Every other reviewer has made me feel just meh when it comes to the interior. After your interior segment and the full breakdown, I am now wanting to buy this vehicle for the scent diffuser option. Thank you guys
Hahahah I don’t even care about this car but PLEASE keep up the awesome segments at 15:30. Love the sight of jack fearing for his life for 2 seconds!
Excellent balanced review, thanks for your insights
I like the role switch for this video with Mark being the gorilla melting the tires and Jack being the voice of reason.
Genesis Canada included 5 years of maintenace free with the MSRP plus they will pick up your car from your home or office and leave you a loaner car to use until they return your car. This is the reasons why I want this car.
Will color matching shirts be a thing from now on? If so, I request a Porsche 993 Turbo review in Raspberry Red Metallic. I know you already have the shirt 😉
Mark getting Jack to "Ahhhh!" is the best thing I've seen all week, thx guys
I am SO GLAD someone (finally) did an in-depth review of driving dynamics of an EV. Well done!
Solid review, dependable and trustworthy commentary.
I drove the Ionic 5, EV6 and GV60 (in that order). The GV60 Was my favorite because of the plethora of tech, the heated/cooled/massaging seats and the BOOST button making driving slightly more engaging. I personally ordered a 2023 Cadillac Lyriq AWD to replace my aging JEEP SRT gas guzzler. I needed a larger, more spacious EV as I am almost 6’7”
Hope you LOVE it!
how bout u wait for the Rivian SUV?? thats also spacious, but also, fast and off roady capable
I will say, I think this thing looks cool as heck.
After seeing one in person a week ago they look pretty good! photos don't do it justice.
Mark's goofy mode makes the driving impressions even better lol
Love the content guys, don't ever change based on what other people do, you do you, keep up the good work!
fantastic review, thank you.
For Hyundai/Genesis 1st Gen, long range EV, it's a great job. They kept good range, price, and performance to hit as many metrics for most people as possible. Can't wait to see 2nd gen in a couple years when they've honed skills to tune the chassis and electronics. Should make it a lot smoother at 85%+. As well as improving range/charging that much more
First Tesla Model S had around 253 miles range at 100%...back in 2012-13 when Superchargers were few and far between. Now with the wider distribution of DC fast chargers even this GV60 can cope with road trips (as long as the chargers in place ARE actually WORKING.
The cheese is slipping off the perverbial cracker over in GooseSavage land...which was highly entertaining! It was great seeing Jack trying to hold the line while Mark is melting tires!! Enjoy the content as always, love it when we get to see you guys having fun.
RIP to the tires
Great review I ended up buying the Ioniq 5 and love it didn't want to spend more money and my 300 mile range I barely have to charge it.
Love Bang and Olfsun audio and I feel like Genesis is doing big things! I'm not into electric cars but they have come a long way already.
Saw that a Cannons song came on the Infotainment. Last time I saw Spoon come up in other one of your reviews. Good choice in music!
That slo-mo near accident was like the Planes, Trains and Automobiles movie when John Candy turns into the devil and starts laughing real slow.

Sounds like it’s time to put a real charger in the shop! I’m just going to go out on a limb and guess that there aren’t going to be fewer EVs coming out in the future.
The genuine terror on jacks face at 15:09
Love all the acceleration scenes w/o traction & stability control. LoL What's it like with the nannies on?? Much slower & less drama?
15:10 look of sheer terror in Jack's eyes!
Excellent videos as always
That's *the problem with all EVs* - they have to be *_"different"_* for no damn reason, just because it's an EV. This ridiculous mentality is behind all of them first gen EVs and I'm not interested in any until they take a step back to making it a normal car with EV drivetrain. Looking forward to your review of EV G80! Would like to test drive one and compare to our 2.5!
None of them are going backward. What you see now is as "normal" as they will get.
@@philhyde983 everything is mean reverting. Not the first time the cars went obnoxious, not the last.

We need more of these fun reviews!!!
The 2nd and 3rd gen EVs will prob be the tipping point for the general US public. You’re correct that right now, they’re selling to early adopters, which hopefully will generate interest.
Well done and honest assessment of positives and negatives. (Note: I am migrating from a Tesla Model S....Plaid. I want that soft luxury feel NOW.
Great work guys.
Fantastic review.Thanks
Great video, adding crash testing is a very good idea. LOL!
Thanks for this! I'll wait for the 2nd generation improvements
I revisited this video after a few weeks of ownership of the Performance version of the car and fully agree with you guys. No one buying this will turn off traction control and we're just enjoying all aspects of the car performance and feature wise. Coming from a big boat Lexus, I'm really surprised at the comfort and quietness. Will see if I get to keep it as long as the other cars I've had.
that moment when Jack realize's he wasn't going to die and started laughing.... Pure bliss LoL
This doesn’t seem like it’s an EV first and car next like most ev’s do. It finally feels like a normal car with a different power train. This is how they will be integrated
Thanks for the honest review, I'm supposed to get mine next week and the information you provided was way more than I got in the dealership or any other review on KZhead, btw I wish they would price it here in Israel same as the US/Canada.. I just got mine for 105K USD 😕
You guys have plenty of money youre fine
Lots of US dealers are gouging with big markups; I have mine on order at MSRP with nothing to be added by the dealer.
one of my favorite reviews to date. hilarious.
16:53 I swear I notice those long wavy skid marks in every video and it just makes me chuckle trying to imagine what happened and who was behind the wheel at the time. lol
Keys work just fine. I agree👍
I never thought an eco-friendly electric CUV would make Jack so scared for his life as if he were his 14 year old self when he got an A- in math class and was about to be beaten by his parents.
batteries are eco friendly?
Plz do more slo-mo reactions of terminal understeer. Thanks. K luv U bye.
This is my new dream car. Genesis somehow telepathically read my deepest desire for a luxury electric Pontiac Aztec.
Honest as usual.....and fun. Thanks lads. 👍😁
EV makers need to learn that straight line speed is not what is needed to create a luxury vehicle.
I love when you guys try to scare the hell out of each other. First one to get the other one to barf on camera wins a beer from me.
You know, I realized on the roads you guys there's a ton of tire marks. I wonder where all those come from. People must be pretty crazy drivers out there
90% due to Mark.
Look at Mark, man. So inspiring
How this channel doesn’t have 1 million+ subs is a head scratcher…
When you guys kept calling it the E-GIMP platform I thought it was a joke. I hope these cars come with a gimp suit made of sustainably sourced imitation leather.
Amazing the Hyundai Kia can launch 3 different and unique models within months. Very strong out of the gate.
All three are only second to Tesla but drive better and have better interiors.
I recently compared the cost to purchase an Ioniq 5 limited v GV60 Advanced vs Tesla Model 3 LR. Each with premium paint , $19,000 down, a 6% tax rate and a 48mo 2.79% Credit union loan for the balance . Total cost Ioniq 5 = $66,632 GV60 = $66,378 Model 3 LR = $66,462 . I received my Model 3LR VIN shortly after I made those calculations and decided to postpone acting on the model 3LR. to me, luxury features are more important than the Model 3's superior engineering (and dismal fit and finish). I didn't include the all too frequent dealer mark up for the Ioniq 5 and GV60 which in my research in the PA/NJ area ran between 0 and $5,000. Note the total cost of a Mode/ 3 LR 36 mo 12K mile lease was almost $10,000 less than either the I5 or GV60. Now all I have to do is find a NJ GEnesis dealer that actually has a GV60 Advanced to take a test drive in.
So if it was a blade, it’s been forged, just needs refinement and sharpening which takes time and precise care. Hope they get there!
I ran out of videos to watch on yt so I decided to watch this gv60 video
This was great 😂 info and humor. 😏
A solid product from Genesis, albeit a little funky looking. I'm very excited to see what Genesis does with the Ioniq 6 platform, I essentially want this vehicle but a bit lower, normal looking, and pushing the upper end of what the E-GMP can do. Genesis could make something to rival the i4 M50 either at the same price and offering more, or being similar but costing below $70K, since the i4 M50 tops out around $75K. Fingers crossed!
I actually like the Ioniq 6 that just appeared at the LA Auto Show. Range is good and the interior is...nice. I would like a Genesis version of this myself. But I do like the higher seating position of the CUV format for better sight lines all around.
What a time to be alive
I am in Europe and I would get the RWD spec'ed GV60 which has Range of 321 miles and it just helps with Range anxiety... although I don't see myself going on road trip in EV anytime soon ! ... probably the infrastructure in Europe is better than USA so it defenitly makes more sense in Europe.. I-Pace is a better handling car than any EV on market but as a luxury drive GV60 is so much better than any other especially in NVH sector. Also its perfect size for daily city driver
Very complete evaluation. i ordered the Performance model already. Do you think then Bang & Olufsen can improve the quality sound before deliveries. I have a Q5 with B&O system and I love it. I am quite disappointed by this issue on the GV 60. How about safety feature as anti-colllsiion systems ? Are they effective ? I know then for major cars manufacturers they don't really work well and not effective as they should be. I agree with you, owners should have the choice between performance and the range . Could we deactivate one motor for having better range ?
There's no way the audio system will change any time soon. Maybe a mid-cycle refresh in.about three years, but no sooner, aside from maybe some minor software updates.
The AWD only kicks in when in Comfort ( under heavy acceleration) or Sport ( full time) modes. The ECO mode only ever uses the rear motor- trouble is that’s still around 170kg of extra motor and engineering being lumbered around!
Yeah I can't help but rather want the Ioniq5 instead. At least there will be plenty of different cars they can build on the E-GMP platform so more choice to come. Great driving segment, maybe left a bit of poop in the seat but enjoyable to watch the freak.
With the way folks in North America eat and drink in their vehicles, you can see how over time, enough crumbs and some spillage is going to get into that roating shifter ball that it's going to eventually get gummed up. I love the wheels. I love the lighter interior and the fact than you can a steering wheel in a color other than black.
Kinda looks like a modern render of an Aztek. Especially that back shot.
The cap on the passenger front door is a scent diffuser
When are you guys going to review a hummer ev? Would love to see your reaction to its accel
Genesis gets an A for doing things their way... very unique and creative! Can we get a quirks n features from DeMuro?
This was a Mark masterclass!
Marksterclass!
Jack is just glad to upgrade from dying in a 4-banger to dying in an EV.
They should also include a fake vibration or blip in the acceleration along with the noise to give you that real car feel, kind of like my PS5 controller gives me that vibration so I know the car shifts.
Looks slick. More a fan of the G70 wagon or whatever it's called. Not even sure we're getting that one stateside and the euro one only get the turbo four. What a weird car world we live in.
I just drove this car for the last several hours, it’s pretty nice, although a hard sell for me at that price. I really wanted to see this review to hear your opinion on the sound system, I was so underwhelmed, now I know the “B&O” system in this car is only marginally better than the terrible “B&O” system in my Ford Ranger. Also had some issues with Electrify America speeds for charging, but on the bright side. I met another KZhead creator while charging.
Hey Mark, could you revisit the 2022 Tesla Model 3 in RWD version with the LFP battery?
Thx for mentioning dis side. I skip it cuz of wired phenomenun.
Jack's reactions lmao
I’m looking forward to your review of the Ioniq 6.
Cant wait.
Doug Demuro things that cap on the passenger door handle is a speaker.
Mr Goose provides the most premium car reviews
The front looked so good to me, and then I realized a front plate is mandatory where I live. And then the front became less good, but this is the case with all cars really.
I also think the looks would have benefited by having the conventional genesis suv rear roofline. I hate these suv "coupes"
Realy good review from a drivers perspective. Sounds to me the lower trim level makes the most sense since you can't use that extra power safely anyway. I do think this car is kind of a beautiful mess and buyers should wait a few years to see what they do with this thing. Now if they would just take that crease out of the door of the Ionic 5 I might buy one. It would take too much bondo to make it look better.
The early versions of the Model S Tesla "performance" versions were "one trick ponies," as all they could do was short drag strip runs as the battery would overheat and the protection software would limit full power after about 3 minutes at high draw. No full "track laps" were actually possible on any longer track, but that simple "straight line" power got lots of publicity and led to considerable sales impact for Tesla. To me this seems like a very GOOD first effort and yes, should lead to much more well-rounded performance in the not too distant future for Genesis.
