  • He’s right tho. AJ seems to be going through a weird phase where he thinks he’s a skilled boxer with power when he’s actually a powerful boxer with skill. I don’t mean that in an insulting way, there’s no doubt that AJ’s an intelligent and talented guy and can show that off if he wants to like in the Ruiz 2 fight but Whyte’s right when he says that he’s a big strong guy and that’s what always worked for him in the past. He was known for knocking people out in 1-3 rounds and making it look easy and his skills were the icing on the cake. But now it’s like he’s trying to make it seem like his skills were the cake and his power was just the icing

    • Last time Joshua kod someone in 3 rounds or less was 5 years ago against Journeyman Eric Molina, since stepping up to world level all his fights have gone 7 rounds plus, This is because at world level you cannot just plough through these top level guys, They'll counter you, Even Ruiz (a b-level fighter) was able to time Joshua and bounce him off the canvas and eventually stop him.

    • I actually got frustrated with his trainer. He kept saying "keep jabbing and be smart". AJ was throwing a sloppy jab the whole fight and didn't know what to do. At the 9th round AJ was behind on the score cards. He should be encouraging him, firing him up and telling to go and fight. Get it. But no, he was told to just stand in the middle of the ring "to be smart" so he could get picked apart by Usyk who was happy to have AJ as a punching bag. Ridiculous. The corner seem bewildered tbh.

Small ring, no padding in chisoras gloves and a entire commentary team rooting for chisora along with a ref who allowed chisora to hold and hit, headbut and low blow.

A loss or two or just close hard figjts can make all the difference. These days all these boxers around with 30-40+ wins 0 losses are ridiculous. Put them in the ring against the fighters just as good as them. Imagine the rivalries you'd get. Imagine the skill and heart of those that survive the fire. We're missing out.

His brain was so overwhelmed he forgot the gameplan. He even tried mimicking Usyk to put him off but the excellent footwork nullified his effort. GSP shared before that overloading the opponent's senses will result in a passive, reactive behaviour. Watch AJ's eyes and face after the 1st,2nd and 3rd rounds because he looked baffled. He knew his power, height and reach didnt matter anymore.

    • when you fight someone highly skilled and on the level of Usyk, everything you do matters. Yeah, when AJ fights low level opposition, he can throw all the bombs he wants and he will land big knockouts. But with Usyk, there was probably a moment in the fight where AJ did throw and missed and got countered and made him rethink otherwise to keep throwing the same shot. Yeah while you're sitting on the couch, you're probably going "swing AJ, swing" but you're not the one in the ring. You're not seeing what he is seeing. You're yelling "throw the straight right" while AJ already threw 2 in the previous round and completely missed and blew his gas tank. Its the defense, footwork, angles, etc. that is causing this from Usyk. That's why it looks like AJ doesn't want to throw or fight. It happens every time a big known puncher comes up against a really good defensive fighter especially some one like Usyk. It makes people think why the big puncher doesn't look like he wants to fight. Look at Lomachenko vs Walters. Walters looked like he wanted to fight neither and he was knocking guys out. For AJ to beat Usyk, he can't fight his game. He was trying to box a master boxer. AJ needs to come in the size he came in for Ruiz 1. BIg and muscular. He might be slower but it would keep Usyk completely on the run and if AJ can learn to trap him in the corner and just land a few body shots and head shots, would completely slow Usyk down. This is why Usyk was completely on the run against Chisora cause one hit could end the fight easily and Usyk knew this and never stood in the pocket but Chisora was innacurate with his shots. AJ is more skilled than Chisora and should be able to land more with his heavier size.

Since his fight with Joseph Parker where he focused his gameplay on ‘not slipping up’ (which was also his first fight with no knockout,) he focused too much on the technical, almost like the complete opposite of wilder. My point is technical etc is needed but he and team have been ignoring his attributes, which are ruthless finishing of the opponent and always looking for the knockout with his power.

Joshua never had Usyk in any real danger or hurt and he couldn't let his hands go as Usyks constant footwork, feinting and head movement didn't allow AJ to plant his feet and allow him to get any punches off. • Yeah the advice from the corner seemed all wrong. AJ was never going to outbox Usyk. They could see the fight slipping away and yet continued to deploy the same approach. Usyk is not the guy to hand you openings for you to land big shots. I expected AJ to take the fight to Usyk more instead of letting him settle into a rhythm he could maintain all night long. As Dillian said, he should have really gone for it, especially after the first few rounds. Seemed Usyk won the mental battle and now tilted the odds overwhelmingly to repeat his victory in any rematch.
