testing this combination with Sony A9ii and A7r3 the A9ii work great in all modes where the A7r3 did not in Auto focus tracking continues enabled had to use single shot focusing, the A9ii out performed the A7r3 for tracking and faster focusing but the A7r3 had better resolution and dynamic range in highlights,
Outstanding images with some lovely editing mate. I bought the 2-600 a few year ago and sold it due to not using it as much as I should at the time. I'm going to re-buy this lens and glue a 1.4 tc & my A9 on to it. I bought an A7iv for my dog photography work and stopped using the A9 due to the fact the screen is poor for low to ground portrait orientation. I will get back into the 200-600 with A9 setup
Very nice video, your images answered all my questions about using a teleconverter with the 200-600 and the A9 cameras. My A9 never lets me down my only wish is that Sony would of given us Bird eye Af they have forgotten all the A9 series users which is a great shame! regards..
I really liked the lighting on those images and video. You picked a good spot and time of day! Good details.
Amazing pictures indeed .
Beautiful. Love it
This is excellent to know. I have the Sony A9 with this lens and I love it. No issues at all, I am contemplating getting a gimbal head for my tripod and then this teleconverter. I have some small ponds near the house where I can get a lot of different bids from eagles, to swans, to ducks, to geese, as well as various shore birds and animals.
Its a great lens
Good content, thank You!
Fantastic images.... nice work!
Getting this lens now to use with my Sony a7R V and going to get the Sony a9 iii when it comes out in march to use with it also and already have the new Sony 70-200mm 2.8 ii and have the 2x converter love it with the Sony a7R V and want to get the 1.4 converter also
I have the a9 and the 200-600, which I use a great deal for bird & wildlife. I recently purchased the a7riii along with the Sigma 24-70 for landscape. I haven’t used the a7riii much for wildlife, but I would like to. However, a few times that I tried, it seems the shots didn’t work out too good. It’s like a little out of focus or something. I’m trying to figure out if there’s something with the combination of the a7riii and the 200-600 that I’m not getting right.
Beautiful pix. Birds are absolutely beautiful creatures. Just got the A7CR and anxious to test it out on birds pecking away on my few remaining persimmons. The abundance of tree branches makes it hard to lock on with the A7R3, hoping the new AF works better.
That will work MUCH better!
Nice upload Dean. A worthy tip by the sound of things, I may have experienced this problem before, but didn't get to the root of it. I'll certainly try it if it occurrs again. The A9 2 certainly looks a formidable camera also, if it were a "one size" fits all, would you choose the A9 2 ? Particularly as you have first hand knowledge of my "predicament". Phil.
think both cameras are good for what they do but the A9ii has it all when it comes to speed frame rates and focusing along with the tracking and no black out @ 20fps with the 200-600 + 1.4tc its a win win combo, and the A9ii does what its says on the box not like some other cameras which have a lot of (if its set to this if its set to that) if you get my where im coming form,
Hi Dean could you please advise what your preferred f stop for sharpest images typically is? Cheers
i try for f8 or f7.1 or even f9 depending on lens light and size of animal
The 200-600 doesnt like the cold. I never use the lens hood, and every time its around 0 degrees and below, it wont focus on things far away. If you retract a little to around 530-550mm ish, it will focus again. I’ve had 3 copys, and everyone does the same. Its the glasses or something that changes in the cold thats causing it. I live in norway so its a lot of cold days.
Could it be the freezing cold is causing the size of elements to change? Heat will expand objects, cold will do the opposite. How long do you let the zoom sit in the cold before using? I live in an area were we don't freeze so I have no issue with the 200-600, benefits of living in So. Cal. It's generally sweater weather during winter with a few days that get really cold.
@@bondgabebond4907 Thats my guess to, but strange that in that kind of lens, they should know people do wildlife in wintertime around the world. Dont remember how long, but it happens pretty fast.
@@AJEnggrav I use A7-IV with 200-600 mm, and the camera doesnt catch the bird eye, and secondly the autofocus of 200-600 is pretty bad and I have this problem for a year (or in short -since I bought this lens). It's always frontfocus or backfocus, mostly 80% not on the eye of the bird though camera shows it's on the eye, or rather 2-3/10 shots are FINE, maybe one is sharp. I had A6400 before, and chaging camera did not change anything on better. I think even AI functions of A7R-V would not change anything, I don't like this lens. But there is nothing more for wildlife from Sony. There is only 100-400 or the primes 400/600 but let's skip these two.. Nikon does the job with wide offer of lenses, and I regret buying A7-IV for now. Also I use Marumi filter to keep the lens safe, but I would like to try to go out without that filter, t0 check if there will be a difference, though I feel like I am going to sell the lens one day, and don't want to scratch anything. Edit: I tried everything when it comes to autofocus for birds... Changing modes on lens 1/2/3, changing speed of autofocus 1-5, changing distance of autofocus on the lens.. nothing makes it better. The front-focus or back-focus hurts the images.
@@pentagramyt417 sorry to hear that. I havent had that issue.
@@AJEnggrav I would not recommend Sony to anyone just for a Wildlife. I think this is not the time to switch the companies, but for sure will be watching Canon and Nikon evolve, and also OM System (I hope they will get something revolutionary in these MFT sensors). For huge distances, this lens is not great, not that sharp and pretty heavy. BUT I hope they will make 600 mm f6.3 itself, or something like 800 mm f7.1. Sony 200-600 is still soft at f6.3 and sharper at f8.0, and it is used more often just by that consequently on f7.1-8.0, so making sharper, longer with less weight lens like 800 mm f7.1 under 1,750 grams is pretty nice idea.
