I've spent a long time lately lookign into #MissingNo and the secret hidden pokemon lore behind the Cinnabar lab and how it ties into SilphCo and Devon. Now all the parts continue to be put together as we learn more about this secret Glitch Pokemon

More about this video. The Pokemon multiverse theory has always confused me, between ultraspace, the distortion world, pocket dimensions and everything else inbetween. I hope Pokemon brilliant diamond and shining pearl or legends arceus reveal more about these strange parallel dimensions and the pokemon that live within them
MissingNo could be newer Gen Pokémon that were horribly corrupted in a time traveling incident. Since a method of obtaining them involves connecting a Gen 1 title to a Gen 2 title while the Gen 2 game is hiding Gen 2 Pokémon, and (almost) all of the Gen 1 glitch Pokémon become Gen 2 Pokémon when viewed in a Gen 2 game, they could be corrupted Pokémon from the future caught in a time travel incident.
True, MissingNo turns into a Remoraid in Gen 8
I think your theory about them manipulating the code is interesting. I am still not certain if Missingno would be the end goal or a mistake during the process. Missingno is unstable and while it can manipulate code (we are able to use it for various exploits) it does so very uncontrollably. It would still seem plausible that porygon was the end goal. Porygon travels through the digital world controllably. It is in essence a manipulation of code. Perhaps porygon even has the same capabilities of manipulating code but, silph have managed to confine that ability to solely their own control. The trainers and people who own them are not able to take advantage of those capabilities but, silph can. It would also seem plausible that neither were the end goal. Maybe they were seeking to make something more powerful that could have the powers of Porygon and Missingno. Maybe this was the idea behind cloning Mew. Maybe Mewtwo was their end goal. Maybe Mewtwo was a stepping stone to a pokemon under their complete control who could manipulate the entire digital world around them. Maybe their real goal is Mewthree but, Mewtwo escaped before they could use him for further experiments.
Admit the truth: Game Freak has been on a constant spiritual pursuit towards just making Digimon...
Imagine glitch Pokémon are Actually ultra Beasts that got corrupted when coming out of the portals and got stuck with that Professor ( forgot his name )
The Gen 7 Professor is Kukui
I’d like to see this confirmed
Lolz MatPat needs to tackle another pokemon video on Game Theory about this for sure 😅
No no noOoOoOoOoO
@@bdf1006 Kukui is a hunk~ 😍😍😍
The thing about people knowing they are on a videogame sounds cool. Maybe you could explore that further?
"People in the pokemon world are aware that they live in a digital space."-Bird Keeper Toby Pokemon = Digimon confirmed
I mean porygon line technically digital monsters aka digimon
I wanna hear Lockstin’s opinion on this, haha- just a bunch of back and forth videos
Personally, I don't mind if you keep focusing on Kanto for a bit longer if it means you make more awesome videos!
I wonder what it would be like if MissingNo was made cannon.
Phancrow.
I think a TCG artist made several arts based of all of early Missingno Sprites
In August 2016, TCG artist TOKIYA put art of MissingNo.'s Ghost form, Aerodactyl and Kabutops fossil forms, and default sprite in Pokémon Red and Green on his Twitter;[7] MissingNo. is therefore the only glitch Pokémon to have an intentional depiction by a franchise artist.
Oh wait, the fact that Pokémon characters know they're in a video game finally explains why certain Pokédex entries reference the real world!! These theories are mind boggling and I always need to spend a few minutes after watching them just sitting with my jaw dropped to the floor, which is the best kind of video in my opinion. Keep doing what you love Toby, we love it too!!!
We could b a video game too for all we know lol
Oooo I’m excited for that future Bill video you mentioned. He’s always been a fascinating character to me.
You don't have to go as far as to say that people in the Pokemon universe are aware they're in a game to explain MissingNo. As scientists the Silph researchers would realize that the whole world is essentially made up of data. After having mastered the ability to manipulate real world genetic code and delving into digitizing real world data its inevitable that someone would get the idea to bring digital code into the real world and use it to create artificial life. We aren't that far off from doing that in the real world when you think about it, we're still doing it organically but we figured out how to synthesize tissue well enough to grow organs out of it. How long until we're making full on homonculi? Maybe MissingNo is the digital equivalent of a ghost? If that's the case then it's appearance is either fabricated by itself or based on perception like an eldritch terror. Either way I'm getting Digimon vibes.:P
Weird to think that Game Freak created the first gamified living code even when they came after Digimon. Pretty sure bandai is still playing with Tamogotchis while GF is creating entire new universes.
Here's a theory. There are 28 Unown. There are 30 spaces in the Pokemon Box suggesting there's two more. I suggest that the last remaining two are 0 and 1.
Dude this is genius, the binary unown are the most well kept secret of Silph co! Just off the top of my head, I think in the ruins of alph the puzzles show 3 fossil Pokémon and Ho-oh, maybe that shows some kind of connection, maybe that's why Silph was experimenting on fossils to begin with? Edit: oooh and Ho-oh is known for resurrection (the resurrection of the legendary beasts) and the unown help arceus create an egg of dialga/palkia, so maybe Ho-oh/the unown/the ruins of alph hold the secret to some epic code knowledge which Silph used in the missingno. project??? Idk, this is all just random speculation off the top of my head
@@J75Pootle isn't Shadow Lugia related to the Silph co. Or Devon? Did they invent that purely to help catch Ho-oh as they couldn't get their own Lugia?
@@NuncleG I haven't played XD so I don't know much about that, but if you're correct then that's really interesting, possibly reinforces the ruins of alph thing?
THAT BLEW MY MIND GRAVELER AND MACHAMP That makes sense man. Gen 1 was raw
The final goal of Silph/Devon is to break into our world
Hey Toby? You remember those weird Teleporter Rock Huts in Amity Square right? Has anyone noticed that there is a strangely convenient line of connecting locations steming from this area, all tied to Ghost type pokemon and/or the Creation of the Pokemon World? In retrospective order, there is Amity Square, Hearthome City (Ghost type gym leader), Route 209 (Hallowed Tower & Lost Tower), Solaceon Town with Solaceon Ruins, the Ruin Maniac Tunnel, Route 214, the Spring Path, Sendoff Spring, and then Turnback Cave. Look at any map of Sinnoh (artwork, in-game, whatever) and all of them oddly fit together (Not to mention there were ruins of Dialga and Palkia at Amity Square in the Anime episode when Ash first met Cynthia)
I'm looking forward to the discussion of trade evolutions being mistakes!
Also Toby, you’re at 650~ videos so odds for shiny Toby is 1/650? Next theory?
I think that it's so amazing that this community has gone so far into something which was an unintended feature. This is why I love what y'all do. Keep at it, Toby!
I love how you manage to make up a coherent theory on the origins of something that is literally an unintended glitch. xD
Imagine if Pokémon has this backup plan where if they were to end the Series it’s Box Art Pokémon is MissingNo, And the Game ends with the whole game just turning black then the OG MissingNo appears and says “Thank You For Playing Pokémon” Then it just Ends. That would be cool
I love Missingno, absolute favourite, I have pokemon cards of it. Can you do a theory of the Southern Islands, my take on it is the Orange islands. I hate comments, they're hard and not easy to write

If the theories for kanto are this insane and mind blowing and in depth, I can’t wait to see what’s in store for the other regions!!
Here I was thinking that you were going to say Silph Co.'s ultimate goal was going to be to escape their world (the games) and enter our own (reality). Literally brining themselves to life.
Idk if that’s even possible
I had a theory about ORAS that the meteor that the nerds at Devon Corp decide to chuck through the ‘link cable’ wormhole becomes the one that threatens the world of Pokémon Mystery Dungeon Blue/Red/DX Rescue Team. I think it’s justifiable to think that the universe The Devon corporation thought to send (and in some parallel dimension they succeeded) the meteor that would threaten the world they live in; would be a world they would not be capable of detecting and human activity in... probably because they no longer exist there.
Adding to the weirdness of MissingNo, I feel like I heard that if you can trick the game to allow Gen II Pokemon to be traded to Gen I, sometimes the Johto Pokemon become MissingNo. And the time capsule is another of Bill's inventions. I don't know if all of the characters realize how fragile their world is, but I definitely get the feeling some characters not only know but have cracked the secret. Like how AZ forged a machine out of what? Crystal?? And it's got all those mechanisms to open it even though 3000 years ago compared to the real world would still be bronze era??? And not just a complex machine but can control life and death itself??? I know Kalos is highly advanced compared to other regions even back then, but at the very least the Royal family must have known how to manipulate The Code. And we don't know when or how the Stone Family learned about other worlds, but it seems they've been aware of Infinity Energy for at least a few generations. And we come back to Bill who seems to hold a lot of power for someone with no sign of a company. Maybe he's made deals between big corporations, maybe he alone has the technology and has been sharing his information with only his most trusted with each region's PC Runner operating out of small houses tucked away in quiet villages or blending into large cities. Cyrus possibly figured it out but he certainly wasn't telling anyone, not even members of his own team. It's a lot to think about really.
I'm part of an opensource decentralized community called Az. It's named after the Wizard of Oz as well as a reference to Alpha & Omega (the beginning and end, just with Latin), and I find it very intriguing that of all the many combinations of letters than can create a name, for the person who essentially created Mega Evolution and the dissemination of new realities interspersed with our own Game Freak chose to use the same idea that our own administrator chose, and not without significant thought.
Kinda wish we're gonna get a Back-n-Forth between Toby & Lockstin with these videos! A PokéTheory Rap Battle!
Haha maybe one dya
Anyone else notice a similarly between Pokemon and Resident Evil 1 (both game and movie) Both have a Mansion owned by evil groups, with a underground (basement) Lab, were they lost control of there most powerful experiment (Mewtwo/T-Virus- & Tyrent).
This feels like the "Sans Is Ness" of Bird Keeper Toby theories and I am 100% here for it. XD
With Porygon being bird-shaped, this makes a lot of sense. I also love how you've tied in the characters being self-aware, too!
Remember the fangame where MissingNo was created accidentally and was codenamed “The Catastrophe” and it was frozen under the sea near the east coast of Cinnabar Island? That was wild.
was it the one where you play as a member of team rocket?
@@ryukreya45 Yes, that's the one! I saw some Let's Play videos of it.
@@alysshart7522 same here :D
Reminds me of Vivec and his actual philosophy in Morrowind, its heavily implied that the actual reason that Vivec is so powerful is that he is aware that he is a Character in a Video Game. Its been so long since I played it, or Read about it, so I cant give super deep lore and context, but none-the-less.
I wonder if their attempts at harnessing missingno. could be aiming towards escaping the game? 🤔
what if missingno is actually sentient infinity energy?
That makes sense. What if he was a proof of concept. He and porygon are both made of infinity energy. Just all the more reason to make him cannon
I found this channel in a comment on another video and its quite interesting I'm almost 30 and haven't heard of this particular thought process before but it makes sense. I was unaware of that arceus scene before. I miss the middle gens. anyways I subbed because ACCENT and HAIR
I always knew missingno was the original evil
I feel like really recently, I saw somebody else talking about the characters mentioning the controls (with that same screenshot) and the Arceus event having real life images in a theory together. Maybe it's just deja vu or something.
Idea, missing no can be a branch Evo of porygon, give a porygon (1) a dubious disk. And level it up, it then evolves into missingno. The pokedex could casually mention a rumor on how you got it in Gen one but it then mentions that this is what happens when porygon is upgraded with corrupted code without the stability added by porygon 2
Howdy & glad I caught an early vid Toby!
what if missingNo is there attempt to make the reality manipulating power of unown because one letter tells no tale but what about a number and unown are basically code in cannon
pretty interesting theory. but i feel like lockstin's theory had more supporting evidence. but either both of your theories where great. can't wait for more great videos from both of your channels
I love this theory and I like that you and Lockstin have different views on the same theory and it's interesting to see two different sides.
Honestly, I think the idea that they know they live in a game, and that the game is an accurate representation of their world and existence...raises far more questions than it answers. I mean...if you were a sentient A.I., but all you could do was walk back and forth across the same five tiles and engage with the player character... How could you really know anything about your world? About the cities you can never see or talk to anyone about. Let alone research or develop technology to change their world. Which, at that point, is really magic. Because they are changing their reality. ... Or I'm thinking about this way too much.
Tobes mate the videos lately have been 👌🏼 bellisimo 👌🏼 Keep it up my man.
awww ty ^_^
Wait a minute... You're... Birdkeeper Toby... and Missingno is a Bird type. Coincidence? Hmmmmmm.....
I'm really loving these conspiracy theory videos!!
I love Pokémon theories, just exploring regions more like this is so satisfying.
dude the videos lately have been better than ever the algorithm might not like it but we love it keep it up!
Lockstin: you dare challenge me mortal?
the last time I was this early veronica taylor was ash's voice actor.
I always thought the Pokemon anime missed out on sticking in Missingno in that one episode where ash was fighting The Mirage Master with the Mirage Pokemon/ Holograms. And the bad guy made a hologram Mewtwo, but I always believed something should have went wrong with the system in his computer and made Missingno for the anime
Interesting video. I like your theories. :)
Aw ty ^_^
The whole "knowing they're in a game" would explain why Adventureverse Silph/Devon won't work in these theories and seem so boring in comparison. Because they're not in a game. Pokemon are still reducable to code, making them megacorporations. And Adventures Pokedexs can do a lot of things, like display what moves a pokemon knows or its hp- using screenshots of the game. But in the Adventureverse, the code stuff stops eventually as you dig into reality and is confined to Pokemon
@Bird Keeper Toby What if Silph Co. developed a "Mythical" Pokémon to represent their brand? Again, Silph IS a flying creature/creature of wind, and MissingNo. is a Bird/- Type... *WHY DOES PORYGON RESEMBLE A DUCK???*
Hey Yeah that kabutops Sprite is dope
ain't you ever seen wreck-it ralph? all video game characters (save for cybugs) KNOW they're in a video game: they just pretend not to because that's part of the job so the one's that teach you basic controls and such are able to break that rule because that's their role and you stick to the program.
I think it’s interesting that people are talking about Missingno again, but at the end of the day, it’s literally just a glitch. Missingno doesn’t canonically exist, nor did GameFreak intentionally create it.
Missingno is definitely cool, it's a really neat way to manipulate the game code, but good gravy I find attempts to make it real within the world of Pokemon always have to reach *so* hard
Accident or no still always fun to think about
I went into watching this video thinking that you were gonna provide evidence that MissingNo is what is found within the Dubious Disc that causes Porygon2 to evolve into Porygon-Z via trade. This was interesting, too.
catching misingno causes a certain slot in our items to multiply(i forgot which slot). so that could have been part of a business strategy by silph to increase their produce
A lot of these theories ignore the fact that missingno ISNT INTENDED TO EXIST, it's a glitch
I've seen Missingno turn into people, and Many other Pokémon such as blastoise, charizard, Kangaskan etc. There's also a place on cinnabar where when you trade a Raichu the dude you trade with tells you that it evolved. I would surmise that Rocket was successful in creating the ultimate ditto/mew form where they could do anything with it because it can turn into everyone and anything. Rocket can use this as a porygon/mewtwo/person of influence to infiltrate anything they want. But their experiment went too well and the Missingno escaped and took the form of a raichu and you caught it and traded it off or when you encountered the missingno it switched itself with your raichu knowing it would create a paper trail with the trade proving that it was a raichu. What did the raichu evolved into? What did the trainer eventually do with raichu? Did it take his form and replace him or did it continue its journey safely as a rare evolved form of raichu and tour Kanto. 🤔
Please don't worry about people being upset about the region that you're talking about. Us true lower buffs really enjoy the videos no matter what region. This was a really good video man. I've always been a huge fan of Missingno ever since I first corrupted my Pokemon Blue as a kid by getting it in with a Game Shark. This theory makes a ton of sense!
Perhaps the ability they to travel through cyber space implies they are trying to escape the game.
I am very much enjoying this style of video
I saw lockstins video about missingno. Yesterday I like Lockstins theory better
I think the idea that Silph's goal is to manipulate game code is really interesting. Not sure that I prefer the idea of Missingno being their end-goal. I feel like Porygon is a much more plausible end goal. Or, maybe the two were completely separate projects.
missingno is what mimikyu looks like under its cloak
I wonder if glitch Pokémon are actually experiments from team rocket gone wrong.
Interesting theory!
i wonder what kind of theories people would come up with if missingno was found not on the island, but anywhere else? silph co. got a lot of connections to different places. As it is now, you could say that the catch tutorial guy, who is an important part of getting to encounter missingno, is a former scientist of silph co. and full of regrets, thats why he is a drunkard in the japanese version. Maybe you could even throw in the person that gives you the HM for fly, which is also needed to see missingno, if i remember correctly that person tries to hide from people for some reason? i love how little game mechanics and informations can come together and form a bigger theory like this video. Was it intended like that? probably not. is it fun to think that all these coincidences are not just coincidences? Oh yeah!
The important connective tissue of this theory that you left out is that this would also create a reasonable in-universe reason that catching a MissingNo. cause glitches in the game - in the “reality” the NPC’s experience. Could MissingNo. even be a first step towards escaping the game world into the real world…?
Porygon Z needs a mega/gigantamax that turns it into missingno, I’ve been saying this for years
Wait, I’ve also been saying the golem/machamp theory for years, I’ve never heard anybody else say it though, where did you hear about it?!
Idea : you bond with missingno and when you reach level 4, you get to undust it and it evolves into a bird like Pokémon called soundfound. Description for soundfound : Soundfound, the Awoken bird Pokémon! Scientists created these Pokémon that bred quickly to make more. Unfortunately, a virus turned them into Missingnos. The only way to revert them to their original state is to dust them with the feather duster. After that, it will reveal a beautiful, colorful bird Pokémon.
Next silph co is gonna create infinite money cheat technology
it already exists and is an attack called payday. or alternatively the ability pickup. meowth, a well known member of team rocket, has both (just not that anime meowth because that one learned humantalk instead of payday). coincidence?
If the missingno glitch is canon then so is the pokedoll ghost marowak glitch
DUDE THAT THUMBNAIL SCARED ME-
Aw hahah my bad
Thank you for the video.
I enjoy this kind of theory.
Commenting because it helps out the channel
Chevrolet and Ford do a lot of similar products. But this doesn't mean they're the same company nor they work in partnership with each other. Silph Co is just a local pokemon goods manufacturer based in Kanto.
I’m pretty convinced, the companies are identical apart from name and have so many founding members and important charecters crossing over
I actually have my own theory about the pokemon multiverse and Misingno. Ever notice how it's technically possible to get a Porygon 2 in Fire Red, despite Porygon 2 supposedly not being created until years after the events of the game? Or the other countless differences between Red and Fire Red? How do those differences come about? We know the pokemon multiverse is more or less canon, as Annabel Fell from Emerald Hoenn into ORAS Hoenn, and the whole thing with the Link Cable. One of the more glaring issues in Red is the glitches. But a lot of the glitches are gone by Fire Red. Coincidentally, Porygon 2 is there. It's my belief that the glitches are actually in-universe, and the Porygon line was meant to play a part in them. The original timeline, spanning the generation 1-2 games, has the most glitches and thus the most need for an 'antivirus system' like Porygon and Porygon 2. But we also can't reach those original games anymore to trade pokemon from them up. In other words, we can't connect to them anymore. Nowadays we can through the virtual console, but not a cartridge for Gold version. What I've laid out is the idea that Missingno has been causing these gen 1-2 glitches and Porygon was made to combat it. But in whatever final battle happened, Missingno won, and that timeline was destroyed. The Virtual Console lets you go back and save pokemon from tha broken timeline by transferring them up through Bank and Home and such. The gen 3 kanto timeline is safe because they got the ability to make Porygon 2 early, and were better prepared for the endgame, possibly because they had access to Porygon Z by the time of the Johto plot. A side theory here is that Missingno is also an Ultra Beast, or perhaps a prisoner of the Ultra Beasts, and its glitched form is due to not properly entering the world.
So your theory is basically roughly the plot of the Team Rocket edition rom hack
Missingno is a ultimate pterodactyl but guts.
I always prefered theories over the lackluster original lore
Bird keeper Toby plus Missingno video❤
Yeah, this does seem really weird that they talk about a whole "We are in a Digital world"
So that's why you're the bird keeper.
To be fair, the Glitch Pokemon are not intended to exist. The coastal tiles not having the correct spawn list assigned to them is also an oversight and not an intentional reference. Still fun to think about. The idea that the Pokemon universe is aware of the fact that they're in a digital space is interesting. The Game Freak office is obviously a fourth wall breaking joke and the tutorials referencing menus is just usual game tutorial stuff. The more interesting development of this idea is that the Pokemon universe is just similar to a game with the Unowns making up everything.
What if Sylph Co was (or is) a front business foe Team Rocket and they had a hand in creating Mewtwo in the first place?
During the mewtwo project didn't one of the scientists try to revive their daughter
I'm currently writing a story dealing with a secret R&D laboratory in cinnabar island that deals with the origin of MissingNo and some specific legendaries and this video touched on a lot of plot points I thought I had just pulled out of my ass and is giving me lots more material to work with! Thank you so much!
Okay so, hear me out, silph co is trying to travel to the real world?
*Kabutops fossil to fkin' scary*
I watch other KZheadrs on Pokémon theories like Gardia and Kangaskan
This is gold. They’re manipulating the physics of their world as they understand it!
Don't know the Pokedex number? I've never heard of a Pokemon with 000... After all, MissingNo? Missing number? It's Pokedex number is 000 Just a theory
I wonder if missingno is a real Pokemon or not, maybe it got corrupted. Also I love your videos and Lockstin's videos.
