Wakizashi Sword: Full Build from Start to Finish + Test Cuts
Welcome to the complete movie of my Wakizashi project! One of the most detailed Japanese sword build presentations on KZhead, particularly highlighting the intricate fittings created to complete the Koshirae.
This video includes all the episodes, excluding the making of some tools crafted for this endeavor. As a special treat, find a few unreleased clips at the end, featuring test cuts and final beauty shots.
The Wakizashi's cutting abilities are truly impressive. Tested with the traditional Tameshigiri, it effortlessly sliced through the mats with precision. Test cuts through rolled tatami mats, simulating human limbs, are known to be a difficult and skill-based task. Since I've never done this before, whether it's luck or the blade's exceptional sharpness compensating for skill, the result speaks for itself.
This project spanned over eight months, and after so much work, adhering to traditional methods and techniques as much as possible, all recordings are now complete.
Thank you so much for your continuous support throughout this long-term project. Stay tuned for possible shorter edits in the future, but for now, the Wakizashi build series is officially complete.
Thank you for watching!

Just as much work went into the says, and the furniture as into the blade, absolutely beautiful work in all. I would be proud to display this piece on my hip as on the stand, thank you for this great, it was well worth watching.
Translated perfectly!!!

Yes. I don't even watch TV.
Respect, and a deep bow to the artist. This is more than just forging, it is a passion.
I love you
This is really awesome! Especially seeing the entire process end-to-end and having all parts build yourself!
I haven’t enjoyed watching a craftsman at work in a long time! This was truly a pleasure!!
This is the first time seeing one of your video’s. I subscribed so there’s many more to come. I gotta say, you’re truly a Master of your craft. That was the best hour and 38 minutes I’ve spent on KZhead in a long time. Thanks!
I give you the most respectful acknowledgement for mastering the art of creating a traditional Japanese sword. Each part is made by a separate craftsman who has studied to perfect their art. You have made each of these by yourself.
Your craftsmanship harkens back to a time before machines. The attention to detail is mind boggling! It's a genuine pleasure to watch you create!
Apart from the whole host of machines he used to make it? 😉
Except for that unreal belt sander . Which is awesome
This artist has all the right tools ! This is some awesome work he's creating !!!! !!
I've been following "Mr Black Beard" since before the pandemic and was always "in awe" of his crafstmanship. Every single knife and/or blade he creates is astonishingly beautifull and unique. The attention to detail unparalleled and the quality of his work is beyond question. But this project...this takes the cake!!! It's colossal! I tip my hat to you sir, you are trully an artist! I wonder how many hours you've put into making this marvel...
Wow! That was a really impressive build. It had me riveted the whole time. Even the cinematography was was top notch. Truly amazing. Thank you for sharing.
Beautiful work. Love the attention to the furniture on the blade. I’ve found fussing and fiddling with the Habaki & Tsuba to be some of my favorite parts of doing these builds.
Okay, this might be my favorite work of smithing and art, EVER. I, as astonished as I am, have to say, this has made me so happy.
An absolutely phenomenal project, bringing together so many of your skills, all of which are exemplary. This is an absolute work of art and I love it. Thanks so much for sharing your work.
I think that the japaniese master blacksmiths of the old times would be proud of your wakizashi. Excellent work it was a true pleasure to watch the whole process. Well done!! Grazie
I’m so glad I can see the finished product, I really want a forge setup. 😭😭😭
The amount of details you put into the sword is mesmerizing
There really isn't any compliment or praise I can give you and your work that hasn't already been mentioned in the comments. But you will have a legacy. Your work will be treasured and spoke of for hundreds of years. Long after we have all departed this beautiful world. I do enjoy reading the comments of the Japanese people. It is their culture and traditions being replicated and honored. They all seem to respect and honor your work. Thank you Black Beard.
Man it's amazing! You're not a blacksmith, you're a f**king jeweler! respect! simply brilliant work!
This is one of the most impressive builds I've seen. Amazing job
The level of craftsmanship on that sword is stunning! It is gorgeous. That guard is itself a work of art. I look forward to following your projects in the future.
Watching the whole process was amazing but seeing it all come together at the end was something else entirely, the craftsmanship and planning ahead is astonishing
A wakizashi(脇差) with a kozuka(小柄:small knife) is rare. It's a great finish. And your passion is greater.
Your skills with hand tools is superb, your patience and dedication to complete such a project in this way are truly exceptional!
Michelangelo meets Samurai astonishing craftsmanship. Truely amazing
You put a lot of blood, sweat and tears into creating this masterpiece.great video as always.just continue on doing your thing.great video as always.👍👍👍😎😎😎

this was absolutely mesmerizing to watch, such craftsmanship and skill, amazing work!
Absolutely unbelievable! I watched all the way through, enthralled the whole time. To learn those skills, let alone master them... wow!
I’ve never seen anyone with such commitment and dedication to their craft! This makes Tiger Woods, Michael Jordan, Tom Brady, Cal Ripken, and Wayne Gretzky look like amateurs! Lol!
Absolutely phenomenal build and perfectly documented. You are an amazing craftsman.

I’m only into this video a 1/4 of the way and I’m already astounded at the quality and technique used by this gentleman craftsman. The tolerances he achieves by hand are jaw dropping and the metallurgy knowledge is extraordinary! I will say no more as I am confidently convinced my accolades will only increase immeasurably!
All I can say is this amazing. I watch a lot of the Japanese master sword and knife making videos and from what I see and my humble opinion you rate right up to any of the masters I've seen. Your skill level and craftsmanship are some of the best I've watched.
Amazing work! You are extremely skilled, I suspect that you may have been practicing because the making of the sword went so well. As the old martial arts saying goes, those who train have better luck and once again we find that there is wisdom in the old sayings. When swords are stored correctly now, there is no fear of offending the God of War, so we can safely wait to see what interesting the blessed blacksmith will forge next. According to Finnish folklore, Blacksmith and demigod Ilmarinen (see Tolkien Illuvatar, etc.) forged a golden wife for himself. Fortunately, we hardly get to see this, the story did not end well.
Found your channel today and immediately had to add you to my favorites. This Wakizashi is one of the most beautiful swords I ever seen. Would love to see this Wakizashi in a set with a Katana.
I’ve been following you for years, watching your videos, since your workshop was smaller and your videos were about knives. This project is by far, not only your best one, but also the sign that you are becoming more than an artisan or even an artist, and becoming a master. I hope you will continue to create beautiful pieces. I think this one is an exhibition one, and I can’t imagine how much is its eventual commercial value.
At first, I said "8 Months, WOW!" Now I understand why. The craftsmanship, patience, imagination, filming, editing, etc is over the top better than more than 99% of what is on KZhead. Many thanks for just letting me experience the making of such a fine masterpiece.
Absolutely beautiful craftsmanship lovely sword and miniature knife. It's positively breathtaking, to take a hunk of metal and craft these metal works of art. Well done my friend well done.
Take a bow mate. That is an absolute work of art. You mate are a master craftsman. That is a beautiful sword!!!! WOW!!
After a considerable amount of contemplation, the only words I can give you is. Not to bad for a gringo! With full respect Brian.
So proud of you, I can totally relate why you look so happy at the end, what a masterpiece, grande, grande, g r a n d e GRANDE!!!
😆😆 Thank you!
Beyond human skill. passion and craftsmanship.
That sword is so beautiful the amount of time and patience I wish I could do that you're amazing dude you are freaking amazing thank you for letting us watch its creation!
Today I watched remainder along with the making of the dagger and the finish of the Wakizashi Sword! Again I was amazed at your excellent Craftsmanship a Labour of love along with the satisfaction of knowing your work will be seen by many and purchased by those who can appreciate the finished product which must give you great pride in a craft very well done?
You should do a restoration on that metal roller.
I will, it's on my to-do list
Just watched this build from start to finish, you sir are a true master of your craft
All together now..."There can be, only one!" And, it's him! True mastery of many skillsets involved here.
The way you're skill set has moved forward is unbeatable it's as if you hade been doing it for 60+ years and taught by a master unbelievable talent shown all the way through the process 👏
I think the only thing you could of done to make it better was to do the blade in Damascus with a beautifully hamon edge
Magnifica 💥 Vederti lavorare è un viaggio Complimenti🤍
I already watched all the shorter clips but I'm not than happy to watch the full length version! There is next level and then there is Black beard level! Your attention to details and your skills are beyond inspiring! Thanks again!
The level of craftsmanship, absolutely outstanding.
Based on the hamon line the heat treatment is not optimal. Edge is hardened only to the half of the blade (lengthwise). Other than that, nice build.
Perfektná práca...
Bravo to you, a true master. Thank you for sharing, and instructing us.
As a wood worker myself I am super impressed with your level of detail and skill you put in your design choices, had me in awe the whole project! Great job 👏 Keep up the amazing work!!
Wow this is insane. The tatami cuts are really good for such a small blade ! May I ask why you chose to use a plain blank for the blade instead of a damascus one ? Is it for strength ? How long did it take you for you to realize this whole project ? Can I apply for an internship ? 😁
I have watched a lot of non-Japanese sword makers and I must say it`s a pleasure to watch you. The attention to detail and knowledge you have is great. Best regards from Norway 👍
New to Black Beard Projects, I was amazed to see the craft and dedication and jewelers level skills going into the other furniture that surrounded the handle if the sword from end to end. The blade itself fantastic was nothing compared to the work that went into those accompanying pieces. I loved it it was great to see all those techniques and the overall skills on display.
Ogrom bardzo dobrej roboty👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
I think it's a wonderful sword even from a Japanese perspective. However, I am very disappointed, but I think that the way the blade of a "Japanese sword" is made is different. When making a blade, when the metal of the ridge and blade is tempered, it naturally bends into the shape of a ``Japanese sword''. If you make it this way, it will become a "knife"... It's a wonderful looking sword, so as a Japanese person, I would be very happy if you could try to make the blade perfect.
Excellent craftsmanship, a deadly work of art in the right hands. We'll done. 🙂
That thing has to be worth $30,000. I would think far more. I'm sure someone would pay $50,000 to $100,000. Absolutely amazing craftsmanship!!
*Excellent work, you can feel the work of a real master of his craft. I think the real Japanese would appreciate your work on the highest score !!!!*
This is so captivating to watch! For me, everything you've done here is precise! I loved every bit of it! Thank you so much!
True craftsman. Absolutely beautiful work. Thank you.
Watching this man work has been the best part of my day. A true Master
Phenomenal I've seen thousands of swords forged and this is definitely in the top of the list
You are a master! You are a great master! I am delighted with your skill! Hats off to you! Sincerely from Russia.
-a nice element here is the MENUKI, and the rest was made in the Euopean locksmiths way (lathes, milling machines )))). it all reminds something of a layman . after learning for many years, I have made many swords, sabres, rapiers, etc.........Great respect for the contribution of the creator ;-}}}} regards
You did a magnificent job with this. The kozuka and kozukahitsu are a really nice touch. Thanks for the video.
The world needs tô See this wonderful capability of a "human" been can achieve. This craftsmanship is beyond. You deserve everything! 👏
Many skills here, This is not just work, part of a soul is in that sword forever.
A true MASTER at work. A beautiful art form that is in danger of being lost to the sands of time. GREAT work friend, Bravo.
I cannot believe your level of patience and skill. Stunning!
I admire your work ethic and attention to each minute detail. Ive had to stop some projects early realizing at times less is more. Very hard to live by but very rewarding.
😊😊😊
the patience required here is astounding. I am not sure I posses enough patience to do this in this way. I forge my own knives, and find the process cathartic and where I find peace, as well as hand sharpening on Japanese whetstones, but the intricate detail taken here is phenomenal, but time consuming. I probably would have just walked away and started something else if I am honest. You sir, are a craftsman of great talent and patience, I commend you and LOVE all your work, as well as dedication!
Wow! I can't find more words! I watch this over and over again.
Every step of this was executed with such care and precision. I don't comment much anymore, but this is deserving of all the love I can give!
I expected forging the blade would be the hard part. Boy was I wrong. This level of craftsmanship and attention to detail is off-the-charts impressive.
man you have great patience and much talent
Ahoj chlape, klobouk dolů před tebou a tvou prací, nádherné 👍👏👏🍀🇨🇿🍷
31:52 If you look closely between these two times 35:27, Black Beards beard has grown about 2 inches in length. Now THAT'S real dedication. Great video.
This man has all the tools and the space,it would be great to be able to get out and forget your worries by going into your shed and work ,or whenever you just want a beer by yourself.
When my man crunched up those leaves. I was like, he Is going to roll up some good herb and say…job well done!!! Haha!! Loved the project start to finish. Amazing craftsmanship
You demonstrated about 10000 unique skills. Unbelievable to watch.,
My goodness... Incredible! Deepest respect to you, sir.
Really nice. Used to have 3 swords all 800 years old. Someone broke into house stole them. They were still razor sharpe beautiful workmanship. Wish still had them . Had for 50 years ...good job and aloha
As someone who considers himself as a craftsman. Ive attempted to make videos on other forums. Its so much harder than people know. Not only doing the work but filming and editing. Your work is anazing all the way around. Great video. Great editing. Great filming.
I love all the little details you put into the wakizashi. It's so beautiful. I would love to have one as fine as this in my collection. Well done sir.
Well, I must say, this is the best KZhead programming. I have watched in months well done my friend I thoroughly enjoyed watching this whole build from start to finish keep up the good work. You are a Champion.
