  • I'm so glad that I found your channel! Me and my husband had our own holiday cottage in the south of Burgundy (in Bissy-sous-Uxelles) for 17 years, starting in 1990. We really love Burgundy (especially the part around Cluny) and are planing to move back within a year or so, this time permanently since we are now retired. Your channel is such an inspiration in the meanwhile! Greetings from Sweden!

  • The enormity of your task of choosing the tiles, especially the wall tiles you showed towards the end, is mind boggling. There is far too much to consider. It would be so much easier if your choices were limited! We will all be looking forward to seeing what you ultimately pick and your logic behind your choices!

  • Interesting and informative. Can't believe the previous builder did not have rebar in the concrete...guessing they did not have it inspected...awfully high. Ironically we never used hemp block in the usa because it was hemp and therefore illegal. That changes in 2024 and will be included in irc codes for homes. Love the tile flooring but it's not practical in Wisconsin...way too cold in winter. Congratulations...well done! 👏

    @amyjones2490@amyjones24906 ай бұрын
    • I know! Well I know in Italy the building regulations are much more strict but you can still do certain works yourself. We also have professionals do things as you see in this video because for some things you need certified professionals to meet certain building codes here in France as well.

  • Wow, beautiful transformation! Looks like a lot of hard work and very expensive. If you are willing I would love to the know the cost of the entire renovation. This doesn’t look like a renovation for people with modest means.

    @denisesantana355@denisesantana3556 ай бұрын
    • I think that is very personal. Some might find 100.000 expensive, other will say 250.000 is cheap. In any case we knew this was a big project when we started it and we've learned that you need at least 30-50% more than you think. From what I've seen, also working with people on their renovation and interior projects is that they highly underestimate what needs to be done and how much it costs. Which is a pity because they buy a house at a certain price and then think that they can do all the renovations with 100.000.... To give you an idea: our roof was in almost perfect condition but just some minor fixings and the insulation works were over 50.000 and we haven't even done the whole roof yet and did this back in 2019. It would be 75000 or so at the moment. Installing a heat pump for a house this size would be between 35000 and 50000 or more. Getting a new septic tank which you almost ALWAYS need here in France as the regulations change all the time so they're never are "aux normes" when you buy a house, can be anywhere between 8000 and 15000 or way more depending on the size and how much work you do yourself. Digging out the floor, putting in insulation and a new concrete floor was 7000 just for the cottage alone. There are so many options to make things cheaper or more expensive so this too is very personal. Works like these aren't cheap and it's best to be realistic and well prepared. It hurts me to see people get themselves in trouble when they buy a property in France and found out too late that it needs more work and that building works are way more expensive than they thought. Do your homework is what I'd recommend!

      @FrenchCountryLife@FrenchCountryLife6 ай бұрын

However, we are stuck in South Africa unable to sell our existing house, to enable us to move forward and relocate! This is beyond soul destroying for us. I have been advised that tiles are very expensive in france, but in this video, the tile place you show looks exactly what I’m looking for. Can you please let me know where that tile factory was, ( website?) and also, give me some idea of prices for the smaller coloured tiles and or ornate tiles? Many thanks Jenny
