Elon Musk's Tesla cuts prices in major markets as sales fall | BBC News

Tesla has cut its prices in a number of markets - including the US, China, and Germany - as the electric car giant faces falling sales.
A price war has been intensifying between electric vehicle (EV) makers, with particularly fierce competition coming from Chinese firms.
And Tesla - run by multi-billionaire Elon Musk - reported a sharp fall in global vehicle deliveries in early 2024, and has been forced to recall thousands of its new Cybertruck over safety concerns.
Last week, Tesla also announced plans to lay off more than 10% of its global workforce.

    @MithunOnTheNet@MithunOnTheNet13 күн бұрын
    • Hybrids like CFL lamps are a stopgap technology, they serve a purpose but will be made obsolete within at most two decades. I doubt "Toyota will go the way of the Dodo" no least due to their size and reach. Also good for them on capitalising on the hybrid market, I recall when they were derided for the Prius, now the same people champion the technology. Toyota should use the hybrid revenue to stay ahead of the game, for when hybrids inevitably fall out of favour.

    • @@Steven-vo4ee You talk about 20 years as if that is a short time. You really think by then Toyota has not perfected the technology for EV? Toyota's main point is that EV technology is premature and infrastructure is not ready. Also, Toyota sells cars pretty much in every single country in the world. Compare that to Tesla and the ones who went EV too early who only sell in first world ones.

    • @@wander9642 Within 20 years pure BEVs will be cheaper than ICE, Hybrids or PHEVs, they will be the mainstay of the automobile industry by the middle of the century. New ICE vehicles [and their variants] will no doubt be niche by then. I don’t believe Toyota or any other marque has ‘perfected EVs’, I doubt that’s even possible. ICE vehicles haven’t been ‘perfected’, despite having been in continuous production for well over a century. And yes, 20 years is a relatively short period of time. • The BBC really don't look at the bigger picture when it comes to Tesla. I'm far from a Tesla fanboy but the production efficiency at the factory allows Tesla to slash prices without losing profit to gain market share. As for the Chinese, their strategy in Europe isn't really in full swing at the moment. The cars may be cheap in China but need to be cheaper than the current prices are in Europe. The public's brand knowledge isn't good enough and there is no real incentive to go for their products over more well known brands. BYD sell older designs with the Atto 3 and Dolphin with only the Seal being a real competitor in the market. It is my belief that the Chinese are only just dipping their toe in the European market and will only come on song when factories are built in Europe and they have better marketing knowledge of how to sell to Europeans. Tesla are so far ahead in design of software and efficiency and make profits from superchargers and batteries for home wallboxes as well as their other interests in aerospace and robotics. They also sell the best selling car in Europe, the Model Y, by a solid margin. Falling sales are due to many factors, for example the terrorist attack on the Berlin factory or how Tesla delivers vehicles per month. Invariably the trend in terms of momentum is increasing market share and Tesla and the Chinese will be the beneficiaries. The legacy makers will have to merge with Chines brands and some may well be taken over as they become less relevant. They have taken too long to adapt and are already behind in production efficiency, software design and knowledge of EV Drivetrain efficiency.

Many customers who previously owned a model may switch to a different brand when their lease ends if the same model hasn't evolved significantly. To retain brand loyalty among car enthusiasts, it's crucial to offer new and innovative models regularly, providing fresh options for customers looking to upgrade. This could keep them engaged with the brand instead of seeking alternatives.

With the sanctions on Russia by Europe, China found a great market to sell their tech. They have flooded Russia with these cars which are super beautiful. Some European countries are now eying them. Therefore Tesla has no option. Germans understand these well. That was one of the reasons the Chancellor visited China recently where they talked of Chinese 'over capacity'. Again, China has a friendly relation with countries in Africa where they get the minerals for their batteries. They see Africans as partners and not 'nobodies'. China is building capital based projects, infrastructures that Europe out off arrogance neglected. The tide has changed so Tesla has no option. Watch out what India will do to the aerospace soon.
