For an ex-gangster, this guy really knows his way around describing the assets of a good film
my thoughts exactly
I’m pretty sure he has helped with a movie before, really smart man
He really does! I'm subscribing. The man articulates his thoughts well.
Glad you like the content guys. I'm now a CEO of a successful International media company at roarmediacreative.com 👍
@@stephen.gillen way to go Stephen! 👍
This guy could be Robert De Niro's brother.
this make the movie Heat even greater
Actually he is! Micky De Niro

For me, Snatch is Guy Ritchie's "Pulp Fiction". More raw and still evolving as a director, but pure genius and iconic. The Gentlemen is his Django Unchained, being the product of the director really having mastered his craft and his style of filmmaking. Both have fantastic casts, characters, writing, etc. They're standout highlights in the career portfolio already filled with other great works.
This guy is full of shit 😂😂😂😂😂
I would not compare Tarantino to Ritchie. Since Ritchie is not so absolutely full of himself that his modern movies are just self indulging fan fare. Where as you pointed out correctly, Ritchie has mastered his craft and is on the top of his game.
@@QuixoticCowboy whether or not you like Tarantino as a person (and I honestly dont from what Ive seen) you'd be a fool to class his talent as anything less than among the greatest directorial talents in all of film.
@@owenleal For real
And "Lock, Stock and two smoking barrels" is his "Reservoir Dogs". Love both directors
I really like how he chose to talk about the movie as a movie, as opposed to dissecting the criminal elements. Was not what i expected, but I imagine this gentleman is disinclined to go into depth about similarities between his experience and those portrayed.
I like how he points out that in terms of youths carrying knives not much has changed though. There's a lot of public buzz about this just falling out of the sky hence we don't get realistic solutions. But the truth is it was always like this. Now there's just smartphone cameras to record it. You go to any neighborhood and dig around, you'll find local stories with whole ass murders that never left that community.
Tarantino wishes he was as good as Ritchie. Tarantino is just good at spectacle, shock and violence. He’s no where near as good of a director or a writer.
And yet, that was the video that the title promises...
This man is a smart man that appreciates culture. Many don’t realize that successful career criminals would have been successful in almost any walk of life but are typically born in to what they became. Great that KZhead and Cinema gives them the chance to walk a different path because their insight in to a different world would otherwise be lost. Also loved this movie, charismatic characters that really pull you in to a believable storyline; no cgi needed; just solid actors, script, and filming.
as someone whos had a fair bit of experiance with gangsters that really isnt true a lot of these blokes are walter mittys who embelish their storys
As great as everyone in this movie was, Collin Farrell absolutely carried the whole script on his back. One of the funniest performances I’ve ever seen
No way the whole cast was phenomenal take one bit out and the movie would not have been as good. In fact if everyone was great in their role it is impossible to say he carried the script on his back. A full bag is 1000 pounds not 4.
I think he was great, but really he didn't carry anyone. There were so many great performances.
Collin is one of the most underrated actors of our time.
Don’t forget Hugh Grant
@@donjohnson8952 Yeah, I think Stephen thought he said four bags instead of full bag
Guy Ritchie never fails to deliver, especially in his gangster flicks!
Because they’re all the same hahah
Revolver was pish, so was Rock n Rolla.
Great film. Just watched it again last week. Colin Farrell and Hugh Grant are outstanding, and great to see Charlie Hunnam branching out after Sons of Anarchy. He's great in this.
Have you heard his embarrassing ‘cockney ‘ accent in Green Street ?! Sounds more Australian
@@fronzelneekburm9290even more so when he ditched the accent completely for the last couple seasons
Collin was my favorite character by far but Hugh's performance was such a pleasant surprise compared to his roles in romances, here he was such a sassy asshole!
Thank you for not sleeping on Colin Farrell's role in the story. He is my favorite character in The Gentlemen, too. Coach's fatherly relationship with The Toddlers shines through, and he saves Mickey's skin on four (*holds up 4 fingers) different occasions.
Such a great film. Originally I thought having a very American sounding McConaughey will be jarring, but he literally draws you in and steals the show
Have to agree, Ritchie's movies I'd put up right next to Tarantino on story telling, twist and actors. I've picked up all of Ritchie's movies. Excellent story telling. The Gentlemen I simply don't get tired of watching
Same here! It's right up there with Snatch for me for rewatchability.
@nateworthy530 Snatch is a flawless movie. Certainly, the most quotable Guy Ritchie movie
@@LordsOfSalem666u could land a jumbo fucking jet in there
All Guy Ritchie films have unique character development that gives a semi comedic take on everyone's back story that allows you to really enjoy each character individually.
The Gentleman is one of my absolute favorite movies. Guy Richie is an amazing director. I can and have watched and rewatched this movie back to back.
The Gentlemen not only became my favorite Guy Ritchie films, but one of my all-time favorites as well (in the "Crime & Criminals" category).
Love the commentary on this film you gave and also the film itself…. And also if there’s ever a movie about Robert De Niro , you’d nail it with the laugh alone
Dude looks like his long lost son
I’m so surprised I didn’t see any other comments about his likeness to RD 💯
Superb underrated film. Guy Ritchie back at his best. So happy when I discovered this gem 💎
One of my favorite movies, I've watched it several times and will definitely watch it again. Just a super well made movie.
First time watching one of your movie reviews Mr. Gillen. Sure was a deep dive! Very impressed with your insights. Agreed, one of my favourite Guy Ritchie movies. Thanks so much for the play by play. Looking forward to more.👍
Colin is bloody amazing in this fil'em....lmfao! He really does have outstanding comedic timing. Hugh Grant... with the East End accent... literally took me 20 mins before I even realized it was him. So used to his Posh proper English. Love Guy Richie Movies.... love my cousins and ancestors across the pond. Great sense of humor. Top shelf! Cheers!!
What is an east end accent ?

He was so positive about the film yet didn't give it a 9-10/10 rating. I think that shows he's a good film critic. He knows there's room. A review of the long good Friday would be amazing
Love this gentleman's laughter. Contagious.
This was a very well done deep dive of a great film. Cheers Stephen!
The best quote out of that movie is “it’s not the last domino that falls, it’s the first” very smart no matter what in life 🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️ I put it down to jealous but that’s people that has nothing better to do with their life’s, you can’t even have a nice car and someone thinks you are doing something… that’s their mental problems but they do try to always bring you down… keep up the good work as always 👊🏻💪🏻💚💚
Glad you enjoyed The Gentlemen. Always good your hear your thoughts and take on film. Also, on those situations in life. I certainly agree with you on those old school ways. If they still held true, we'd see more respect and less of a sht show out there.
Looking forward to his new movie. Love Guy Ritchie's work. Every movie keeps me hooked from start to end.
This and Snatch are two of my favourite Guy Richie movies. The Gentleman keeps getting better at every view... and it was amazing at first view 😊
“Not gonna work like that son…”I need that in a film and then on a t shirt.
Jesus, I had no idea that was Hugh Grant. Phenomenal performance
He was brilliant in it so he was. We all got to see a different kind of acting from him that none of us new or seen, he was my favourite
I ❤ Guy Ritchie films. His storytelling style is amazing and fun and just grabs attention. I don’t usually take to gangster films but anything by him, I will always watch 🤣🤣🤣
Stephen, Great review of a great flick, I enjoyed listening to your perspective on the different situations. Thanks!!
This is, for me, Guy Ritchie’s finest piece of work and thats is saying somthing! Loved lock stock, snatch, revolver but this is just a fantastic film. Watched it 4 times to date, love it

Brilliant! Only just came across you, just about to watch more! 😊❤
ahhhh my favorite movie! like guy says, “it really is cinema”
Green Street Hooligans is one of my absolute favorite films about London/English gangs or clubs whatever you wanna call them. I know it’s a different capacity but Charlie Hunnam is amazing in it. Which I’m sure is what got Kurt Sutters attention.
Theyre called Firms. Not gangs.
that film is utter shite and beyond unrealistic and dumb
The Football Factory is a better film. Have a look if you haven't. Less, American.

Can’t wait for the sequel. Thanks for the opinion. Love how Mickey gets revenge upon the American double crosser by demanding his pound of flesh, served him right.
@Fronzel Neekburm is Jewish a nationality…

Love this movie, as always great to hear you views. I love the Mathew Mconahay scene that homages the long good friday, great twist on it.
If you would of told me you were also a director mate I’d fully believe it 🤣 the analysis of the movie along how you could describe the realism of it all made this a truly good watch, you definitely got a subscription off me 👊🏼
Gotta admit, I was *not* expecting such a masterful dissection of the art of cinematography. He ain’t coming into this cold, bro’s done his research and instead of focusing on the similarities and differences between reality (his own experience) and the screen portrayal, he concentrates on Guy Ritchie’s crafting of a story from a script, with some awesome character acting performances - truly Hugh Grant’s Magnus Opus, what he could’ve achieved if he’d not sold out to the cheap but easy RomCom market, one wonders😂😂 - and just sprinkles in the lightest dusting of his own criminal past where it really adds value to the analysis. In case you couldn’t tell, I like & respect this guy a huge amount. Have bought the book, tyvm, and I’ll give it a read. Great video.
I never liked Hugh Grant as an actor but his performance in this film draws me back again and again.
Thanks for your insightful review. Think I'll stream this based on your recommendation.
I loved your reaction to "The Gentlemen" almost as much as your reaction to "Snatch." I wish it were possible to get your full running commentary on a blu-ray of this.
I'd love to see your reaction to the 1973 classic "The Sting" and the 2001 remake of "Ocean's Eleven."
One of my favourite films absolute peach . And what well spoken gent reviewing

Your videos are always entertaining and informative. I have a recommendation/request: McVicar, 1980.
The question about carrying knives made me grin, everyone had a knife when I was in my teens in the 70's - I had a stiletto up the sleeve of my leather and sometimes a bowie knife in the pocket as well, we didnt get into many fights because you knew that everyone was likely to also be carrying
This Ex-Gangster looks pure actor from any Scorsese movie or Soprano’s! Magnificent!!!
I love this film 💯🤣🤣🤣 It's brilliant and I have watched it over and over 🙌🏻
Richie has got to be my favorite director with Snatch and Lock, Stock, & Two Smoking Barrels at my top 5 favs!
Love you mate, cheers! 🤘
Dude I heard this gentleman talk from the other room and I thought a Jason Statham movie had come on. Great reaction, wonderful insight.
Watched it today and love it!
The dialogue in this movie is just 🤌
Mr. Gillen, what a great idea ... an ex-gangster giving your opinion on what i thought was a great and engaging end to end movie. i totally agree that each scene pulled you thru. it was compelling and comparing it to your actual knowledge added something that no other commentary has which was excellent. i wasn't expecting you to go into character detail which was an added bonus. I'm curious tho of what you made of charlie hunnam, as i thought he carried the role really well. not easy to play opposite both hugh grant and colin farrell and hold your own which i thought he did really well. all the best.
Guy Ritchie back to his best.
Love, love, love Guy Ritchie films.
When you want to be a Director but life had other plans 👏 this guy know his stuff
This was awesome!
Very cool flick....I always drop the clicker when this pops up,....Ritchie's earlier flicks needed subtitles,... this one was understandable....(i'm American) too.
Amazing dialogue in this movie.
One of my top picks as a film..impressed by the critique.
Coach and Fletcher are excellent characters 👍🏻 Ray and Micky are a class act . Great film .
Love this film. Its So good . My favourite guy richey film Great video
The lighting is an active character in Richie's films. Even London itself is a character. Just remember, "there is no posh part of Croyden". 😊
FYI: Guy Ritchie, the guy who created classic British gangster films like Snatch, Lock, Stock & Two Smoking Barrels & The Gentlemen also directed Disney's motion picture classic (arguably) Aladdin. Need I say more lol?
That jacket and that watch, IYKYK chef's kiss
Very good insight and perspectives on the film. Great movie!!
Great video, thankyou for sharing. Has anyone else commented on your resemblance to Robert DeNiro?
There are about 4 big crime related movies that were produced and stared well known Australian actors. Chopper, Animal Kingdom, The Post Card Bandit and Getting Square. 3 are based on real characters and events in Australia. The Post Card Bandit is about Brendan Abbott who has escaped from two max security prisons in Australia and went on an armed robbery spree before being captured.
Getting Square is totally underrated, as well as one of Heath ledgers early movies, Two Hands
@@deand8070 David Wenham was hilarious in Getting Square. "Warren, he's just an old piss head from Petersham, he wouldn't hurt a fly". 😂
The scene when they did a rap video while stealing the weed was hilarious! Kind of realistic too since people post everything they do.
This was a pleasure to watch.Would love to see you react to "Rise of the foot soldier".
This guy is well spoken for a gangster.
the gentlemen is a advice to watch freaking funny
My favorite movie
such a great movie. Colin Farrell is SO good in it. Well, everyone is great in their roles.
I was on this world as a female in the 80's. I grew out of it. I looked very sweet and harmless. Those who knew me knew I had knife skills,a hook that broke jaws and a quick shot. They would sit back and watch if a newbie was disrespectful. I would walk away 3x . People don't comprehend what animal behavior is until you meet people with absolutely no human empathy.
How have I not heard of this movie?! Well thanks to this video; I'm a go buy it right now
Snatch and lock stock and two smoking barrels are classics
Guy Ritchie is definitely my favorite film maker. Hell even his Aladdin I find interesting, just all around expert in his craft. This film, snatch and rock n Rolla are my favs. But I’ve never seen a bad Ritchie film.
Great stuff Stephen! Keep up the good work. Give 'RockNRolla' a look. Another Guy Ritchie, strong cast and fantastic twist. 👏
This guy's one of those blokes you could talk to all day about film but you'd always know not to piss him off.
New subscriber. Brilliant video 💪🏻 🏴
Is he a ex-gangster or a director?
Guy Ritchie needs to give us a crossover with Lock Stock, Snatch, Rock n Rolla & the Gentlemen, the toughest part would be getting all those great actors together, but it would be insanely easy to connect all the characters if you just write Bacon(got married & moved away or something) out for the sake of having Turkish as a more prominent character. Tom, Eddy & Soap could have used their shotgun money(after renting some scuba gear) to buy out Eddy's dad's bar, which they make into a fancy restaurant that Soap runs, along with some other properties, that Tom & Eddy now run the card game & more gambling left vacant by Harry's demise, with Big Chris & a now grown Lil Chris(Will Poulter, Alex Pettyfer, Jack O'Connell) as their security/Debt collectors. Also renting the properties to Turkish & Tommy who are now Legitimate MMA promoters( with their diamond money) linking them to Coach & His gym, & Mickey & Roman for concerts. Bring back Archie & Johnny now running Lenny's planning racket, along with some more criminal endeavors they use the Wild Bunch for, Make Uri, Aslan's dad from his 1st fling with the wrong woman, with them & Mickey's crew have joined forces to put the Russian mob in their place & going into further partnerships, Make Winston & J 2 of Mickey's top botanists to bring it full circle & even have Johnny randomly take Power Noel under his wing as a former Musician, turned Junkie, turned gangster protege/Pete stand-in. Unite them all against Arab gangsters who are encroaching on every level well above what the Russians were. For the love of god, put Danny Dyer, Daniel Craig, & Dominic West in the things.
Genuine guy. Brilliant take on some classic and iconic films. Couple suggestions. Carlito's Way and Get Carter 👌
Love this video, and there is a movie called the departed Leonardo di caprio, Matt Damon, jack Nicholson and mark wahlberg and you should review this film and make more great videos
