In this video, I show you all what ownership was like for the 2022+ 3rd Gen Toyota Tundra after one year. I put 15,000 miles on this truck throughout my time of ownership. Aside from a few issues that the dealer was able to fix and some that weren't, this truck was amazing to own.
I enjoyed road tripping and just daily driving this truck over the last year. It's been great and I am glad that it gets to stay in Florida.

I hate my 07 Tundra SR5 4x4 with 287k on it. It won't stop running!! Not good!!
My 07 Tundra starts effortlessly in -20°F. Never a problem with it - so annoying 🤣🤣🤣.
My brother says the same thing on his 1992 corolla wagon - it has 490k miles - “ why cant you die! So i can buy a brand new car” - but reality - he loves that car
I hate my 1st Gen 06 Tundra it doesn't die to get a new truck
My dads 02 265k Camry & my wife’s 2013 247k Camry won’t either.
My 2006 gx460 has the same issue... bought it for 6,000$ put some wheels and tires sold it with 298,000 miles for 14,800$ new owner is currently having the same issue he's not happy either lol😅
i just bought a 1794 2023 edition and everything sounds tight so far! done a 12 hour road trip the day i bought it..will look out for any problems with the acceleration/transmission nice review gained a follow
Glad the 1st year went so smooth, your Tundra turned out fantastic. I started watching your channel for the 4Runner content, but the Tundra was a nice bonus over the last year. Still waiting for next gen 4runner info, Man I cant wait for it!!!
Awesome! Thank you! I can't wait either for it man. Hopefully we get something this year, like spy photos.
It went smooth? Lol Are you being sarcastic? Did you hear how many issues he had with it? I’m interested in tundras bc they look so sharp, but my 2014 f150 has had zero…ZERO issues and never been to the dealer. And I thought Toyota was supposed to be dependable
@John DoeI can’t speak on what numbers you managed to Google to try to ease the pain of your butthurt, all I can say is I’ve had ZERO recalls and ZERO issues on an almost 10 year old vehicle. Of course Ford has issues, every company does, all I’m saying is Toyota is putting out products with issues that should have easily been spotted in testing. As an adult I feel i should use this as a moment to teach you a life lesson, don’t call a stranger a bro and then call them a clown bc you will get punched in the mouth, but this won’t pertain to you bc you’re a keyboard warrior. Have a nice day, “bro”.
Smooth?? Wow.
Selling my 2019 4runner, getting my 2021 TRD PRO Tundra delivered today in oh....about 30 minutes! Excited, my first full size or any truck for that matter. Great video's!
Have fun!
Regret it yet?
@trumptookthevaccine1679 regret what, the truck? No way! Best vehicle I've owned and I owned a 911..lol
@@jorgea3507 sorry to hear that
@@trumptookthevaccine1679 appreciate your concern, all is good. lol
Nice vid Jon. Hey… did dealer give you any pushback or lip on warranty coverage or your concerns etc… after adding that lift?
Thank you for being so genuine and fully honest. With TRD in your KZhead name, I had doubts about your bias, but after this series with your rattle, I don’t think I’ll ever question your reviews ever again! I wish youtube had more guys like you!
Trd stands for Toyota review dude for my channel. Thanks for watching!
Thank you so much for this video, I’m to between getting this and a Chevy Tahoe and this was super helpful.
Glad it was helpful!
I just hit my one year ownership of my 22 platinum. I’ve found more than a few things I’ve noticed so far that bug me. First off the IQ wireless charger has been virtually useless as it constantly disconnects. The deployable running boards have started to slow down, and don’t deploy as quickly. I have also noticed they will sometimes freak out and fail to deploy / retract. I could list a few other pet peeves I have, but I love it and it’s been an absolute blast to drive. And I’ve driven across the country and many a states without any issues.
I dont buy first gen anything
Nice...yea...I might just get the SR5 plain...anything electric is gonna fail...but the boards look cool when they deploy
Thanks for this video, it answered questions that I didn't know I had.
Of course!
I have a 2020 tundra, im in my 60s and my tundra is the best truck ive ever owned.
I love my 2009 5.7 tundra so much that I bought a 2023, so far love them both! Toyotas are just too reliable!
I bought a toyota rav4 2011 at 126,000 used! It drives like brand new! I love it. I pay $200 months for 60 months. I pretend it’s a tundra’s
You have a 4 year payment on a 2011 rav4……….
I appreciate the content and look forward to seeing how the TRD Pro holds up long-term, but if I ever do bite the bullet and get one of these 3rd gens, I still might stick with the non-hybrid motor. My main reasoning is that's the drivetrain you get in a 300 series Land Cruiser so from a longevity standpoint it has to be good, but also, I really do like that storage space under the rear seats. Maybe you can come up with another storage compartment/rail system of some sort when you get the new one.
My 22’ TRD pro has 1 headlight now (get an error and no light from passenger side. High beam works tho) constant P00CF CEL, noises in front suspension, transmission chatter when in Drive. They’re great!
Take that lemon in and see whats up
I have a 2010 Tundra SR5 with 118k on it. Absolutely love my truck. The 2023 version of my truck is now nearly $60k. I honestly don't know how people are affording the new Tundras and Tacoms let alone the Squoias and Land cruisers. Holy S*&t!
18k on my 2022 SR5. Two towing trips to Cali from Colorado. 20.5 mpg average 12.6 mpg towing 8000lb camper trailer. Plenty of torque and power. Spacious. Great to drive. Loving it.
Also no noise. No vibrations.
That is awesome!
Not bad. I tow with my diesel at only 4800lbs and get 11-12mpg.
I love my 23. My issue was the back window rattling when down a third of the way. Apple car play would continue to kick me out at random. Also automatic front collision braking would randomly engage. So I just turned that off. But other that and thinking it should get a bit better mpg. It’s solid and quick.
i wish you had done like a 30 minute video on what you use that shelf for, cause man do you love that thing. I would like to know how that shelf was utilized for you.
Phone on road-trips, napkins, note books, literally so much.
Great looking truck. I like the lift, tires, wheels, TRD badging on the grill, and the American flag tundra script on the tailgate.
Thanks 👍
I will never get rid of my 2016 5.7 crew max. I almost traded in on a 2023 TRD, but God said NO! It will last anoth 15 years and go to my grandson.
Smart move, the 5.7L is the best engine ever built in a Tundra. The V6 Turbo won't have near the longevity of the 5.7L.
That door badge is driving me crazy haha , they put it so far back......man I cant wait to get mine
Door badge?
Yeah it looks so out of place lol
Perfect set up there. Good job 👏
Thanks man!
Great review. Personally, I'm not a fan of this generation design. My 2007 Tundra SR5 4X4 Regular Cab Short Bed is the most perfect truck ever built. Just the facts...🙂
I had a rattley window on my 3rd gen Tacoma but only if slightly rolled down
Composite bed liner “moving” is a big problem. It rubs the paint off. This is not a novel issue. Not sure why still happening. I had one years ago where I removed the liner and did a spray in underneath it.
Watching the with CC. The Tundra turns on and CC read "foreign [Music]" good work bot.
lol really? haha
The 2023 Tundra seems to have nothing but issues starting with the distinction of topping Consumer Reports not recommended list (the first time ever)
That Florida trooper back there is like, “is that TRD Jon?!?!” 😂
I didn’t tell you I hired 24/7 security?? Lol
@@TRDJon I mean once you cross 50k subs it's mandatory. I've got the Navy SEALs on standby for when I hit 50k.
I wish the trd pro came with rear heating and cooling seats along with a 6.5 bed. Would like to see the front two windows be double laminated for the trd pro as well as its so expensive.
Agree with everything minus the longer bed (just for off road sake) But yea, premium items for a premium price.
Yes because the off road focused trim needs the longer break over
this was the primary reason I traded my TRD PRO for a Platinum Hybrid 2023. I loved my pro but ultimately, for only a few shekels more I got a much better family car and I have two kids.
I have 2022 SR5 with TRD suspension on 37s with 6.5ft bed………5ft beds in trucks are just weird man!
Not everybody is doing rock crawling and whoops. Some of us have a need for the longer box and still use our trucks offroad and there isn't 1 single truck out there that offers a longer box with the top offroad trim. Pretty crappy to not give the option.
Nice setup bro, I hated it but after seeing your yours I’m not having thoughts about getting one
Thanks!
Sounds like a lot of quality control and cost cutting on certain components with the new Tundra. Also the cost cutting on interior quality and sound deadening are not a good look. Is def the loudest interior in the market among full size trucks, which is surprising since its a brand new model.
Sorry you had so many issues and you are not alone. What a nightmare. Stories like this are why I bought the 2018 1794 model. When Toyota gets their act together again, we can talk. Using customers for R&D on THEIR dime and time is inexcusable.
You do know this is a first year… even the first year 2007 tundra had issues with oil leaks, transmission failures, and frame rust.. 2012 was even worse where it had all those problems including Electrical issues. And the worst repair was the induction pump which was covered by Toyota eventually.
@@sikh7563 my 2006 had no problems. These things are still having the same issues in 2023.
How do you like yours?
Like how you said “with air and everything” when talking about the weight of wheels and tires 😂
I currently own a 19 ram 1500 w/5.7 hemi. It has 95k on it. Other than brakes and tires, it has been great. No issues. I’m not bias to any brand. I’m looking to sell and buy a new tundra but after hearing about all the minor issues I may wait another year or so until Toyota gets all the bugs fixed. Does anyone else own a new tundra with these similar issues or did he buy a bad quality tundra.
Hey love your videos. If you don’t mind me asking, what do you do for a living? Just a 21 year old curious as to what I wanna pursue after the military.
Get all your medical documented prior to getting out. I have VA, real estate, youtube, affiliate marketing, and brand deals.
Solar octane is a sick color. I wish my 21 tundra could be that color
That would be wild!
Glows in reality too!
Wow, who could have thought a new Toyota will have all these problems.
If Toyota kept the 5.7 , I would consider upgrading from my 2017 Limited but nope! I will stick with what I have.
That truck looks sweet with only 1 exception, the infotainment screen. What were they thinking? It looks like they forgot and velcro'ed an iPad to the dash at the last second.
Unfrickinbelivable that a truck that expensive has that many issues. It should be flawless, bumper to bumper.
Vehicles worth 4 X this has problems too. Sadly that’s just reality. What can make it for these issues is the post purchase support.
120,000$ raptors have more and more common issues then this. Everything that's mass prouce is going to have issues.
New vehicles from other manufacturers are junk. Many are also more expensive. I guarantee you that these things will still be providing transportation long after the others have grenaded... inflation is the problem. Your president is to blame.
I just sold my 2023 Tundra Limited after 9 months with 20K miles. It had $3700 of options/packages. I bought it new but started having lots of issues that were all fixed under warranty. But paying $55K it should not have all the problems it did. I got $53K from Carvana, I am going back to a 2024 4runner (5th gen) because of the "Hopefully" still reliable old school interior and engine, transmission. Both driver and passengers side plastic seat panel cracked, dash cracked, entertainment system was very unreliable, cruise control faulty, gas guage did not show correct fuel level, etc, etc.
I have a 2018, couldn't let it go for the new one
Wow, a 60k truck and everything rattles. I have never thought that I would say that a Toyota truck that is only a year old has those issues. My 21 Tundra does not have a single issue and more importantly, nothing rattles.
It's only the two windows. Nothign else..
Like he said, it’s the first year of this model. There bound to be a few bugs to work out
Yea and a 21 had 14 years to work everything out, I hope it had no rattles lol
doesn’t matter if it’s a first year. They had 10+ years to design this. My 95 and 05 taco don’t rattle and they are first year models, and cost about 1/4th the price of a new tundra when they were new…
Toyota ain't what it used to be.
Random question: what guard length do you use? I'm looking to do a buzz cut and I like the way it looks
lol. 3
@@TRDJon haha random, I know I know. Thanks brotha 🤙
Toyota was like, "We know we had 10 years to get this right, but fawk you!"
Warranty is great. Love taking time off work to baby it at the dealer 😆
Glad you enjoy it man. No worries then for ya
Amigo te saludo desde Seattle Washington, tengo una pregunta para ti ,donde conprastes la barra de luz que tiene tu royota tundra color blanca
Heretic
Wouldn’t buy a first Gen. Thanks for being honest. The Tundra weathered the storm. I’d buy one for the bulletproof drivetrain. Your long drives helped reveal issues. Future tundras will be better. Wish it had less hard plastic inside. Soft rubberized materials - not leather, would help image and quality. I like the cloth seats. I’m interested in hybrid - can’t wait 👍
I always fear soft rubberized materials melting when they get old which feels super cheap
My 2021 tundra Google car play does the disconnect thing too. Pisses me off
I like this look with the tires. How did you get the tires to stick out of the side of the vehicle a little?
Wider aftermarket wheels with more offset and wider 13.5 tires. It only costs about $6k, go for it! 😆
10 inch wide with right offset
So this is an SR5 with the TRD sport or pro package?
I love my 2020 4runner ORP. Sometimes I want a Tundra to get a pop-up camper.
4R can toy a lighter one. idk how heavy you wanna go
I had a 2012-total lemon after a while. Went to Chevy Silverado-best choice
It's easy to sell a truck when you make good money (content) off of it already. Next on to the new truck and more content and $$$. Yay!
Yea alot of people don't realize that business model
That's damn right, exactly what he did and good for him.. They are making it sound like a bad thing, lol.....
This is like my 07 Tundra with a cooler screen
I have the same problem with the windows. I hear some noise my truck is a Toyota tundra 2022 Limited 4 x 4, TRD
Hope it gets fixed!
I have a 2021 trd pro with 15k miles. I will wait 10 years to make sure the 3.4 L is reliable
No problem with that!
Sand to see the white truck to go, but it will be nice to see the next truck.
Was there a TSB for lack of recovery hooks ? Lol 😂
How did you get the tsb with the acceleration issue? Mine has that too at times. And the back passenger door rattles
During my 15K I had them do it. I have a video on my channel about it maybe 5 ish before this video I think
An honest review! I won’t ever own a Tundra again. Sooooo disappointing. The USA Toyota engineers should be fired. This is what they came up with after 5 yrs?? Haha..nope.
Really good video do you make I had question I’m hearing people say if you lift the truck or you level you lose your warranty? Especially when you go bigger size tires
You are right but folks don't like to talk about it.
The dealer has to prove the lift caused whatever failed to fail. If you lift your truck and the radio goes out, then no it doesn’t void the warranty
Exactly, people don't understand this about warranties.....your mod has to be the reason it failed
The “mustache” grill surround is the ugliest feature! No fake chrome!
The v6 trucks are plain stupid. Your not even saving gas mileage. My HD gasser gets 14 mpg, with a lift and mud tires. Why would I get a smaller turbo engine, just to save 3 mpg? And that’s stock? Sure the power is nice. But it doesn’t have a quarter of the reliability. Maybe if you use the truck as a mom mobile, otherwise you gotta be very gentle with them. Ecoboosts don’t last as work trucks. Most of the guys who have crazy high mileage use them as highway commuters. Tons of guys beating them to heck, and they die at 150k miles.
What wheel set up are you running?
I have not had to go back to a dealer for anything on my last 5 new trucks and none have been a Toyota. I love how Toy folks thinks these things are perfect and overlook all these glitches.
A couple simple fixes are forgivable for 300,000+ miles. Your ford could never. I have had a dodge and a Chevy that both needed recalls addressed brand new. You sound stupid.
The previous model doesn't really have any flaws. Toyotas are popular because they do their primary function well. They run. Chevrolets, Fords, and the Ram trucks are breaking down left and right. My step-mother recently bought an Escalade. It has somewhere between 30 and 40k on it, and the engine is done. The dealer is rebuilding the engine. They will not replace it. She paid over 100k for this vehicle. Then the dealership left it parked outside... after promising that they wouldn't (she is VERY particular), and it sustained significant hail damage. They didn't even call her to tell her. She went up there to check on it and found out. Then these yahoos told her that she would have to file on HER insurance. This is not an uncommon occurrence. I know this because the dealership knew exactly what was wrong with it as soon as they got it.
I sold my 23 Tundra, due to being so disappointed with the changes. It was my 3 rd tundra. The motor was fine , I didn’t like the smaller size leg room on long trips, and several other annoying things. Especially the engine auto stopping at red lights and having to change settings to be able to back a trailer without it locking the brakes. Also NO FRONT TOW HOOKS !, Wait problems with the AC cooling efficiently. Sooo. I bought a 24 Nissan Titan Pro 4x. IMO it’s a better truck. 19 MPG hwy with the V8 is impressive for the Nissan. The stock Tundra is now a chick truck unless you plan to spend a lot extra money.
Enjoy the Titan man!
How’d you get the big 14 inch screen on the sr5? Do you have to custom order it?
There will be various options for SR5 and other models to upgrade things.
I am more worried about the monthly payment more than the specs 😂.
Then buy something in your budget.
@@malcolmn.5222 if someone is buying a car using a loan, then they are hosed. New car prices have increased from an average of $32,000 in 2019 to $46,000 today. Pair that with increased interest rates and you are taking about a 60% increase in the monthly payment or longer term loans. That’s just the new car market, use car prices never got any better than outright ridiculous where I live. I feel for people who aren’t able to afford to pay cash or a decent down payment for anything right now.
He buys cars he can't afford. Nothing new
It's only $800 a month
Then those people shouldn’t be buying out of their means
I just bought the 2024 tundra 4 x4
I have a 23 platinum hybrid. And my biggest complaint is the gas mileage fraud. Something needs to be done about this. They need to be heald accountable for real. The Interior space is hideous. There is nowhere to put anything. This is a home Depot truck for retired people. The hard plastic scratches really easy. This is not a road trip truck. I'm 5'11 I barely fit in the truck. No storage anywhere. Almost impossible to eat lunch in the truck. The engine sounds like a Scandia go-kart and my dealer refuses to turn off the fake sound. The truck feels like it's going to die every time I stop at a stop sign. Stop start technology has a long way to go. But the worst part is the mpgs fraud. I really hope someone files a class action lawsuit against the lies they claimed. I bought the truck based on the mpg rating completely unacceptable. This is my 10th Toyota and by far the worst. I've loved all my other Toyotas. The lack of a home button on the infotainment Center is just completely unbelievable...and the suspension and Driving Experience is harsh. It struggles to go up hill, not the power but the trany. Now the platinum grill is chiping off. The windows are really loud. The dealer ship refuses to fix the broken phone charger and windows.
You need to find another dealer for starters.
It might be wise to stick with a pickup with a gas engine in it . . .
No offense, but these things absolutely suck lol. I work at a toyota dealer and the amount of concerns and issues is insane. I've done and seen these get delivered and when we're doing the predelivery inspection they were already broken.
What year/price range/mileage would you recommend for used Tundras/Tacomas with a 20k budget?
Very sad situation. I waited patiently for the Gen 3 '22 Tundra, ordered one and finally bailed right before delivery. The amount of issues on this new model is an absolute travesty, especially for the money involved and the Toyota nameplate. 45 years I've been driving reliable Toyota trucks and the '22 Tundra is the best they can do!? Ridiculous. Bought a '20 model and am enjoying it, light foot wins the day with the gas mileage.
Mencantan las toyotas y esta esta muy preciosa 💖 bravo gracias 🙂
Went to the dealer yesterday and test drive the Capstone. Am I the only one super annoyed with the rough noise you feel in the cabin, NOT the exhaust noise, but noise coming from the engine? After a few shifts it get smoother, but…. It handles good, no complains there, but again….I expected more. Felt the same thing with the Lexus LX600, but a little bit quieter. I am not impressed at all. I pity the soul that buys the capstone for that amount. People complaining about the TRD pro, what’s going on?
You mean the fake noise that's pumped in?
It’s fake engine noise.. can be disabled at the dealer.
Just had a friend buy a 2022 with weird hesitation problems. Dealer did TSB and it didn’t work for the original owner. That owner tried it in and the dealer sold it to my friend. She traded her 2020 Tacoma in for it and HAD TO BUY IT BACK. The tundra is NOT perfect
Hi Jon, I just got a 2022 Tundra SR5 and is making a klunk noise under the truck, only sometimes on start up. Have you ever heard anyone complaining af that?
Yes, there was a transmission software update for it
Buick must be making the new Tundra. Window problems.
I just traded in my 2022 TRD Pro for a 2023 Raptor. The TRD Pro wasn't everything I had hoped it would be. Hope you have a better experience than I did.
Raptor and Pro are way different trucks for sure. Enjoy the new truck!
good choice.
I'm sure the Raptor is amazing, but that's apples and oranges.
Sure when money isn’t a problem. But im a tundra fanboy so im still staying with them.
Having had them all. I ask what you didn't like
My 2011 Tundra bought new with only 45 miles on it. Now has 270,000 miles.
Nice
Nice looking truck 🛻😍
It sure is!
The only similarities between this and the first gen is the window rattle lol love my first gen
SOLD! Onto the next one!
Having worked for Toyota I'd never recommend buying year 1 of a new platform. Wait for year 2.
What is the TSB repair for the acceleration hesitation? I have this issue with my 23 TRD
Not sure the actual number, but I have a video on it prior to this one.
What’s the specs on this set up?
In another few months incentives will be out and you’ll get $5K off and 1.9%. The car market is settling down. Local Toyota dealer has seven Tundra’s sitting on lot for sale.
One can hope for that low of rates. I’ll refi as well if that’s the case
Doubt you will be seeing 1.9% anytime soon
Inventory is rising but interest rates aren’t falling unfortunately
Nope. 3.9 maybe in 18 months
Not even close. Toyota rarely does rebates and never in the history of Toyota have they ever offered $5000 off anything. Keep buying F150's bro🤣
Does the sr5 come with parking sensors or power folding mirrors?
This one did yes
I want to get rid of my 2019 ram rebel. Something went wrong electrical wise and dealer can’t find a solution.. I really like tundras especially this new gen but sheesh there’s a lot of issues it seems like.
It's hit and miss. I have a 23 now and so far its great.
I have a 2023 Tundra TRD Pro. I do my own maintenance (way overkill) This is a car with a bed. I am dying. I won't make 12 months. This is one of the two worst mistakes I've made buying vehicles; the other was a 1991 Isuzu Rodeo. If you want a car with a bed, this is perfect. Otherwise...
Wow that’s scary. I’m thinking of buying a 2022
Toyota should have considered the old V8 engine 5.7 engine and do a hybrid V8 ⛽ gasoline and continue with the V 8 diesel engines 4.5 with increasing the horsepowers and torques, those new V6 3.5 twin turbos gasoline engines and 3.3 V6 diesel engines we as consumers and customers have to be very careful taking into consideration..
We don't want any damned hybrid pickups. We don't want V6s in a full size pickup. Nobody with any sense wants a dino (diesel in name only). We want V8s with a key ignition and the least amount of electronics possible. In short, we want actual pickup trucks . . .
I’m no where close to being within the arena of being able to afford one of these full-size pickups, given that I’m still young (18yrs); however, that doesn’t negate the fact that I might be a consumer in the future. I hope and wish to take the family out on healthy weekend getaways, hauling a fifth-wheel toy hauler comfortably with Toyota reliability.
You mentioned several TSBs and a few other issues. While it’s good it’s all covered under warranty, I don’t want a brand new vehicle spending that much time at the dealer getting repairs. I guess I have higher expectations. I’m interested in this 3rd gen Tundra but I’m going to wait until 2025 I think. Hopefully Toyota will have the kinks worked out by then.
One would hope
I would have traded it after the first recall. I have had my 2020 Tundra for forty one months. Zero problems, zero recalls. Big 5.7 V8 absolutely love it. Don't like the looks of the new ones.
5 recalls for the 2020 Tundra including the fuel pump issues those trucks had.
@@TRDJon Any idea on why I did not receive any of them? I have owned this truck since July 2020.
Our 2019 Camry has a rattle in the consul.
Will you tell us what price you sold it at? Thanks
54K
Jon, did you lift it or level it? Your mpg was affected by the height and 35’s. But still the 479 ft lbs is better than stock V8’s 401 and it comes in sooner. Trucks are gonna get crappy mpg - who cares. They’re not cars.
Lift and heavier aftermarket wheels too. It's the westcott 3/1
Florida to California Damn!!
It was a haul
Does your new Tree have wind noise?
Barely any dude. It’s awesome.
@@TRDJon good. Typically, the sequoia is better built and more reliable than the tundra every generation. The second gen tree is considered the most reliable vehicle ever made. And the LC 200 second.
Let me know when you’re selling the Cavalry Blue 4Runner. I have a black 2022 TRD PRO, maybe we can work out a deal.
Sounds good
