Such an incredibly sharp movie. The lighting, the colors, the composition, the action. All just so incredible. But what an amazing Cinematographer! All of his films really stood out to me before I got into filmmaking. Identity is one of my favorite films. Because of him the Four Aces movie ranch is one of my favorite locations that I STILL haven’t shot at! But damn Indy Mogul, you guys are killing it. Look at all these best picture Cinematographer’s! These are Oscar nominated People on the show! This is just crazy.

favourite scene is Miles first crash when it shows the car sliding from over Phil's shoulder, that whole scene was so artistically done. It really sells the suspence and draws out the tension.
I literally just finished the movie 15 minutes ago and checked youtube and saw this :) Super fresh in my mind.
He has one of the best filmographies. Been a fan since Nebraska. Simple and to the point. You guys are killing it
I love when he explains the LEDs on the outside of the factory. I see that everyday in Atlanta.
I want to know who “thumbs downed” this episode and why. This was one of my favorite movies I’ve watched in a long LONG time. That scene with the shadows in the hangar alone sealed the deal for me. HUGE thank you to you guys for doing what you do. Always entertaining. Always educational.
Some very very sick people.
Ferrari fans.
Because the host comes across as fake/annoying/unlikable. Simple as that.
jlg395 spoken like a true Ferrari fan.
@@jayalbajr I like Ferrari and I loved the movie... What do I do?
The works that they've put on this movie is just incredible.
It would be cool if you guys had an iPad with the screenshots of the film and then he could draw directly onto the screen.
Or imagine something big like the Surface Studio
you could also just put a tv/monitor under some glass/acrylic and use erasable markers on it
@@noah_the_nerd why he will screen record the ipad while he is drawing.
@@yousefabdulrhman858 Screen recording on the iPad could also work, but then that screen recording would be the only thing you see. You wouldn't be able to see when they casually point out parts of the image, and it would remove that collaborative style of of having two people looking over one large drawing together.

Amazing what kind of technology are used for these car action movies, never seen these special vehicles!! :)
they use Russian Arms and different types of stabilized heads. Also they showed the :18 podcast on a chassis
thanks for the addition!! :)
Professa he literally said in the video that they didn’t use those because he didn’t like the look it gave and how inconsistent it can be.
Oh, ok... I didn't get that... thanks!
These are so well put together and value packed. Congratulations to the awesome team putting this together!
I love these interviews with DP's. There is so much knowledge and inspiration to glean from them. Thanks, Indy Mogul. You rock!
Please make these a lot longer - fascinating stuff.
You guys are amazing! Glad you're back on YT full time!
This is brilliant. I read the ASC article about the film. That was already cool. But having Papamichael actually explaining and drawing is a real blast. Thank you so much.
Thats so much awesome! Will check out the full podcast!
Please go on forever! Fascinating! Thank you
Awesome content, thanks a ton for this wonderful effort! getting world class on Indy Mogul! Thanks Ted
This is just great. Really enjoyed listening to Phedon. Loved that he enjoys cars on top of enjoying filmmaking. Being a fan of cars myself and a filmmaker, I also enjoyed this movie and felt it was beautifully shot. So again, it's great you guys sat down with him and broke done some of his techniques. Loved the card board chat of the hanger that made me laugh. Especially when he said if you were there and saw it in person that it would seem like they didn't know what they were doing. Haha ... filmmaking, looks silly in the process but that final look is what really sells it. :)
Thanks for getting the low down on this one! I'm not a big race car fanatic, but the camera work for this film does a fantastic job of recreating the sensation of driving a race car.
I wish it went on forever! Great interview!!
Yeah
My dad
So excellent! My favorite movie of 2019!!!!
The lens and colors are stunning
Great job, the passion in lighting is inspirational.
I love the movie and this was so great to see the break down of som scenes. Fantastic job of putting it all together!!
Incredible. Thank you for this!
4:25 - LOVE IT! That's my type of setup!!!!
GREAT VIDEO INDY, THANK YOU!
Great episode! Thanks!
This was incredible. Thank you for these videos. One thing I wish is that you'd ask about sound recording where applicable because that can cinematography can affect how sound is recorded or vice versa.
very informative. Thanks for this episode.
Great job Papa!
Super cool to see, thanks!
Your channel is top notch! Thank you!
Insane! Loved the video, thanks!
So well done! You ask all the questions everyone wants to know the answers to. Great stuff!
Fantastic interview
Loved this episode. Great interview.
Amazing content, please keep doing these kind of break downs with hollywood DPs.
This was one of the best movies of 2019. Period.

What I'm curious about is how is pay determined? When you have a DP who's worked with you for 5 movies, how do you negotiate how much to pay? It's like only he understands the director, it's priceless.
That's why hollywood is quite dependent on agents - so that they don't have to sully friendships and working relationships with money disputes. It's just agents arguing with studio people.
The rigs they use are amazing
Awesome interview.... I'm always amazed at the creativity and how Hollywood magic works. Loved Ford vs Ferrari 🙌👌✌what a movie 🙏
7:27 “ahdonahnaherrrrkinnndayeahbut” 😅😂

Loved the movie. This was awesome!
A+ once again.
Would have loved to hear about my favourite shot, when Matt Damon as Shelby drives Ford in the GT, amazing tracking shot...
Way way cool!
Thank you This was very informative I love Ford v Ferrari
Another great episode, even though your overhead camera was having an autofocus meltdown. Ah well, happens to us all.
Nice & Thanks :)
Gorgeous movie
Just discovered this channel! Subscribing!!
Ted's face at 5:07 is like "OMG...That's a hell of a lot of LED's" *New Aputure 100' Soft box coming Q4 2020*
Please go on forever!
You guys look cramped in the space! The old setup looked much more aesthetically pleasing, love the show though! This is one of the best schools for filmmaking accessible for the every man.
Best content
I like this guy very much :)
I really enjoy when cinematographers break down how they filmed scenes. Is there any chance to have Janusz Kaminski cinematography break down?
This is BIG movie! I run faster than car to go cinema and watch!
Wow, why didn't you go on forever ted ? Awesome stuff.
The cinematography and lighting in this film is amazing, the movie as a whole, not so much.
Stink.
I just have to add that the o t h e r car you had ready in the interview was an Alfa Romeo Spider circa late '70s ✝️🐍
Very very good! I'm loving your channel, it's a film school. Truth! Can I make a request? LoL Can you do something like that about the Toy Boy series? Photography is very beautiful and used a lot by leds. Thanks! #FromBrazil
This movie was so inspiring I got a job as Ken Miles.
I loved the movie, watched it the other day
Marko420 Same. Fantastic from start to finish.
May be someday this guy can bring Freddie Young from the past..you guys are creating a reference.
However they did this, they did a great job!
Simple to play with the iPad version of ur iPad to ur iPhone to ur iPod and iPhone to ur iPhone and iPhone app for the iPad and iPhone.
This show should become a Netflix series
For anyone who dind't recognize his accent like me, he is Greek. And Papamichael is such a cool last name!
LONGEEEEEEEEER!
So this is the same dad hat than the aputure merch right? "What about people?"
😍😍😍
James Mangold just loves making Dad movies doesn't he? just movies my dad would buy on dvd and have a blank face at for 2 hours untill the credits where he will smile slightly and nod.
The movie included heavy focus breathing during rack focusing, was this a period choice or stylistic?
That's due to the anamorphic lenses, especially modified ones like this set. All lenses focus breathe (due to optical physics), but the "corrected" ones have a second element stack that zooms a bit to perfectly compensate. If that were added to an anamorphic optic, you'd end up with a lens that changes its squeeze factor when focusing... or a 28-element, 50lb lens, $1M lens.
Yes, I don't think I've ever came across a movie that had as much as what was in this movie. Was just wondering why they went with that style.
I really wish if these videos were at least like 2 hours long. I know the hardships for that, but I just wish. This is great. Indy Mogul.. you guys rock! ♥️

wait, are they saying that those night shots were done during the day?
Would it be possible to ask him why he chose to expand the C-series instead of going with the Ultra Vista, which would have covered the LF and provided an aspect ratio of 2.37?
Gabriel Machado Because those are new lenses. Remember he even states here that he wants something that feels traditional and in the era, so he wanted older vintage style anamorphics. Also the UVs are an oddball 1.65x so they aren’t the full 2x that pro DPs are used to, so the out of focus elements don’t have the same panache.
The Alexa LF sensor is physically larger than the Red Vista Vision / Panasonic DXL2 sensor which the Ultra Vista lenses were designed for, and the Alexa LF sensor has a taller open gate aspect ratio, so a 1.65 squeeze is almost not enough for a 2.40:1 final aspect ratio.
So the night scenes were actually filmed during the day instead of the night? (so is it colour grading and other things?) (i'm not sure, just curious about the progress)
It's called day for night shoot
@@dhruvdutta099 oh, but how do they get the headlight to shine on the rain without messing up the light? (I'm not sure if colour grading could solve this)
Shot on digi - NEXT
So nobody's talking about that helicopter with Senna's helmet design at 2:00?
I would have still watched this if it were an hour long
Hello from the other side 😅😅😅
I like your indy mogul Cinematographey show. This is Azlan Arain khan cinematographer.
what are all those little ropes on the car? 13:27
That's a common technique to visualise airflow at points on a car body. you can see where the air is going and whether the flow is turbulent or not by how each string behaves.
and kids this is how good movies are made...
shout out mr hensonnn
*I have one question before watching the interview,* *Why there is focus breathing in some shots? is it because of the rehousing by Panavision or its what they have gone for?* *the focus breathing was so obvious!!*
Need theater version released. The cuts destroyed my total experience in theater of movie. Even the retort at end of fight scene was cut.
