I make my own beehive frames. In this video I show how I make the side bars.

Work of loving the smell and creation. Wish they made tools to last like the old days.

When you rip thru one of those studs with a redish color, the smell is amazing. Those one tend to splinter on router though. I don't know if that is spruce or fir.

I ordered 2 of this Banks Bars to see how they work out. Making my XL side bars is tedious work with my limited woodworking tools. I may look for a used planer and jointer in the future. Good to see the way you do it.

Thanks Jimmy. I wish I could get my planer fixed. I'm not looking forward to buying a new one just because I can't figure out how to replace a belt!

I make Lazutin frames out of Scrape wood. Most of my Lazutin hives have been built out of my old scaffolding boards. I just use a table saw and circular saw. But my frames are an inch and half wide. I run top bars that touch. Way up north so 2 by hives help insulate. I don't move hives and they are spread out over acres. I have unwelcome boards on hives for bear.

1.5 inches is an option for bee space. I'd have to switch to 9 frames in my 10 frame box. With a planer it's super quick to knock them down an 1/8" I'd like to hear more about how you make yours "bear unfriendly".
