    • So, do you also cut the hair of the cat, make the cat wear a tie or bra depending on its sex and put make up on its face? Cats don't need clipping, if they don't respect you, that mean means you're the one who's doing something wrong... None of my cats ever got clipped nails, they trim those by themselves on a tree or scratching pole.. My cats don't put their nails on me, except when they're making cookies in my lap....

    • I’ve thought about making her a bra, but she seems skittish when I try to count her nipples 😂 In all seriousness,I think while your situation may be ideal, there are many reasons most owners need to trim their cats’ claws. For instance, in my own home, although veterinary neglect and behaviorists have confirmed for me that cats are not thought to demonstrate autism, I have a Tonk whose social skills are so deficient he might as well be. Probably early socialization was seriously lacking in his first homes. He’s gotten better at retracting his claws with gentle guidance, but it’s been a long road. (He’s not actively disrespectful in any other way, extremely attentive and affectionate, and does the same thing to our other cat who promptly puts him in his place every time, but he’s genuinely an idiot and a slow learner.) He still plays rough, forgets that he shouldn’t use them for traction when randomly racing across our bodies chasing/playing with his brother,or even just trying to stretch up our legs asking to be picked up, or patting our arms or faces to get our attention. (The pats are gentle, but if he’s not actively retracting his long exquisitely sharpened weapons, we sometimes bleed. He probably doesn’t respect my young son, and it’s definitely not ok for the child to grow up being abused by the cat. (We’re all working on it, but this cat is, well, special..,) So we do trim his nails. Even our gentle, mellow Norwegian Forest Cat can have trouble retracting his claws sufficiently when they get very long, and his velvet paw taps for attention can become uncomfortably prickly, which is clearly NOT his intent. (And yes he uses his variety of scratching surfaces daily, but occasionally can’t keep up with them, much like his ridiculous long coat. ) And as a veterinarian, I’ve often seen cats that don’t keep up with claws on their own (and yes, we absolutely need to get to the bottom of why that is occurring!) and get nailbed infections or even puncture their own footpad if the claw is long enough. So for many cats, owners, and households, claw trimming is a must for everyone’s safety and health. But your point about mutual respect and behavior is an excellent one, and I wish more owners took this under serious condition!

  • Two cat hacks: 1) Use wood pellets for litter. You will save LOADS of money. A 40lb bag is about $8 and for one cat would last about six months. It is all natural and there is NO odour! Find great ways to make a wood pellet box on YT. 2) After my clothes come out of the dryer I hang and fold them INSIDE OUT that way there is no way for cat hair to get on them :)

  • One of my cats, Midnight, enjoys drinking a spoonful of milk from my cereal. I remind her that if she gets on the table, she doesn't get milk. She mostly stays off. My cat tip, if you want to tussle with your cat, use a towel or put your arm in a denim pant leg. It does decent for protection for your skin from claws and teeth. I also treat her like a family member, not a possession. I treat the cats as if they are smart, and they start acting like they are smart. When I rarely catch Midnight on the table, I just remind her she knows better. No spraying with water, no yelling at her. Just showing her my disappointment, and she gets down.

  • I have a simpler hack for keeping the litter box smelling fresh... Wood pellet litter. It smells like freshly cut wood and it hides the odour of everything, even poop. And regular cleaning l, obviously. I sift out the saw dust each day as the pellets break down once they absorb all the urine, I have a new kitten and my house has never smelt fresher.. wood pellets are 100% natural, safe for your kitty and cheaper than most other scented brands on the market.. I think my kitten really loves the smell too because when I clean her litter box and put all fresh pellets in, she almost tries to bury herself in there 😊

    • @heidimtb Cats usually DON'T pee or poop in house only in litter box. Like they will hurt themselves before going anywhere except the litter box... if they do is usually trying to say I'm sick take me to the vet asap. Probably 2x in thier whole lives or if they are extremely upset like a brother dog harassingthem or another cat threatening them all the time that behavioris reserved for emergency " i need to get my hooman to fix this problem asap". cats while thing is to be odorless, it's part of their survival it is ingrained into their DNA is so strong. Get a cat! Get a small kitten and it will grow up adapting to you and the way you live. They will look for ways to help you or mimic you ( that's where the term copy cat started. They even copy the way and place you sleep) cats lower your blood pressure even! It's been said that the rain cats sleep so much is because they remove all of your tension and anxiety when they sleep next to you like a sponge then during the day when they nap somewhere else they release the all the negative MOJO to angels then they destroy it harmlessly! You hadn't lived until ur cat snuggle next to you at night or sleeps in your lap.... you feel more love than ever

    • Citrus peels are toxic, so is tea tree oil. “Natural” does not mean safe, especially when you are talking about cats. Citrus is a common ingredient in flea control products, ones you can buy over the counter, which have older, less effective and more toxic ingredients. Be very careful with your most precious fur folk. They need your love and protection.

While I was resetting my Google password using my tablet, my little guy, whose mugshot is at left, reached out his sweet widdle foot and tapped the screen twice! The first rap added a keystroke to my password and the second entered that as my new password! I was TOTALLY LOCKED OUT OF GOOGLE! My entire system shut down and I spent hour after hour trying to gain access, to no avail. Finally, I was able to reach someone at Google and I explained what had happened. After the guys at Google stopped laughing, which apparently took about three days, they graciously reset my password to something I could use. My little typist is no longer allowed to touch any device I am holding. I think he was trying to watch his favorite bird channel. Cute, huh? NOT!

  • If you wanna deal with cat pee smell get some of the enzymatic cleaner made especially for it. Nothing else actually works. Cleaning my cat's box would occasionally get the smell on my hands and no amount of cleaning would do the job on close inspection. A quick little spray of the enzyme cleaner will though. I taught them to get down, using the word "down" with a firm enough voice to not sound angry, but making it sound important/serious. They also understand "come on" with an somewhat exciting voice. A couple of hand motion are used too. Sudden downward point to the floor is the same as saying "down". waving my hand toward me is the same as saying "come on".

  • #14: The Carrier. It also helps to have a carrier slightly bigger than the cat you have. Use a smooth surface such as a table, place the carrier on it with the door open. Pick the cat up, set it down in front of the carrier, and gently place one hand on their belly and gently lift up just a little (don't lift the cat clear off the surface). While lifting up, move your hand forward towards the carrier door. The cat doesn't really have much choice but to step with your hand, and if they try backpedaling, their claws will simply slip on the smooth surface and they really can't stop it. Once you get the front paws in, I've found that the cat will simply just step forward then you shut the gate and it's in. Or at least that's how mine was. Took me a couple times to learn that technique but it's worked out fine ever since I started doing it that way.

Also made a tube jungle out of cardboard rolls of various heights & depths, including a seesaw where food must be rolled out, and a trick tube where lifted food can fall down a trap hole then rolls out the opposite side 😺

  • A simple tip for if you're cat won't sleep though the night or wakes you up too early is to feed them later! Cats naturally feel sleepy/happy after eating so making their big/main meal a hour before bedtime provides a clear signal that it's time to settle down. You can also tweak their mealtimes ahead of daylight savings or summer so the cat isn't waking you up early when the seasons change and provide play time ahead of this meal to help get them into a routine of play - eat - sleep. Also if it's very hot weather adding ice cubes to their water and wetting their paws and fur with a wet cloth can be life saving as cats love heat but are not immune to heatstroke!

I had to arrange a safe comfortable place in a nice storage room for him to sleep so that I can sleep. Finn gets lonely so my other cat (my cuddle buddy) has to go with him. I miss them. I tried many hacks for many months to discourage his early rising. I even consulted vets. I've played with him, fed him just before bed, etc. The room is temperature controlled and has a window overlooking a creek with birds, ducks, and squirrels so they aren't bored until I wake up and bring them in. I feel I'm the one who suffers most being without them all night - for 4 years now.

  • I have found the first three months you have a new kitten are vital for building good habits. When I get a new cat, I get them as young as possible (6-8 weeks) and plan to spend a great deal of time with them. I never leave them alone in the kitchen (or anywhere they may practice a bad habit) until I know they have learned not to get on the table or cabinets. I often let them sit in my lap at the table and if they put there nose up above table level it gets "flicked" while I sis or say no. After a few times they will raise their nose, but put their ears back expecting the reprimand, and eventually they won't put their nose up at all. When they are older and able to jump on the cabinet or table, they may test these boundaries and I'm ready with a squirt bottle (only water) and a sis and/or no. Never leave them alone in the kitchen where they can get on the cabinet when you aren't around to correct them while they go through this phase. You shouldn't have to keep doing this more than a few weeks. The only time my adult cats might violate this rule is when they forget themselves chasing a bug or investigating an open (kitchen) window. I prefer male cats for pets - and I get them neutered as soon as the vet will allow - usually three - six months. It needs to be done before their balls have fully filled out. Doing this reduces the chances of the male cat marking his territory to almost nothing. Usually, the only situations that will cause a cat raised this way to begin marking - is areas in the house that were already marked by previous cats, a trauma of some sort, or introducing another cat into his territory who DOES mark or threaten him in some way. While the cat is new, i make sure he has good places to scratch, but I also put clear packing tape on the corners of tempting furniture. They will try the packing tape, but if they do try it, I'm ready with the sis and a water squirt. Once you see they aren't going to scratch furniture, (a few months) the tape can be removed. Kittens love to climb and need to climb and explore and exercise their claws. Card board boxes draped with a scrappy towel are great alternatives to couches and drapes. I keep the ever present squirty bottle (water only) ready during those first 3 - 6 months to let them know the drapes are off limits. The people I've talked to who can't stand their cat's bad habits, either got an older cat (MUCH harder to train out of bad habits), or they didn't take the time up front to make sure they had a wonderful pet. I'm 63. I've had many wonderful cats, and this is what I have learned over the years. My cats have not only been great companions, but partners - they hear things before I do, and smell things before I do... even in their sleep! My cats love to go on walks with me and want to be picked up if they get startled. A good cat is a great friend. Btw, if you want a good kitten, take your time. Find one that looks you in the face, that will play gently with your hand, and after playing, will curl up in your lap or next to you to nap - even with its mama or siblings close by. I will usually take a half hour or more sitting next to the litter to pick a kitten, and if none qualify, I won't take one, no matter how cute they are. As hard as that is!! It is just too important of a decision. Cats can live 15-20 years, and that is a long time when it turns out the cat isn't exactly what you wanted.

Getting better as a cat mom as time goes by. He's spoiled and well cared for - I just ask my friends with cats a lot of questions and the vet - they all help.

  • I just learned about putting my cats' food on plates instead of in the bowls that came with the feeder form. Cats whiskers are incredibly sensitive and continuous rubbing on the sides of bowl is extremely uncomfortable because of the constant stimulation. Also they would always leave a ring of uneaten crunchies around the outside of the bowl. This often ended up with my throwing away a lot of food and since they eat vet-approved special food it was expensive. Cats will also leave bits of dropped food around their dishes. This is not to annoy you; cats can't see directly in front of them close up and they don't notice. A plastic placemat with a non-skid bottom works great and can easily washed with plain soap and water.

    • If things are so tight that even buying decent cat food is a struggle I'd question whether its fair to have a cat, because v cheap cat food has little or no decent nutrition. Buying pet food in bulk, online from Amazon or any online pet store & the food is way cheaper than store bought.

  • My cat very rarely spit up hairballs. I gave her a bath every Sunday, I used a shampoo formulated to prevent hairballs. It kept her fur soft enough that when she's grooming, her fur would go through the digestion process & pass through the other "end"

  • I have been having quite the struggle for a very long time now with my Rag Doll cat being brushed. He’s always after me literally fighting his way out of it or else he will bite, and he bites quite hard! He’s never had any negative experiences with brushes at all, I’ve had him since he was 6 weeks old and now he’s 15 1/2. I’ve tried using the most gentlest brushes and he still won’t fall for any of it. He recently got into something very sticky over the summer and I had to bring him into the vet and the vet had me sedate him prior to getting him shaved. He’s not by any means a mean cat at all, he’s very sweet and lovable and loves to cuddle and even tolerates my nephew who’s very little and the cat is just fine! It’s just something that’s up with him letting me brush him. If any of you can please point me into the right direction on how to help me and him deal with this better and hopefully get him over this bump in the road, I would kindly appreciate all of the advise I can get! Thank you in advance! Sincerely, A tired out cat momma who only wants the best for my fur baby! 🐾🐈

    • They make brush "covers" that you stick to a corner of the wall that most cats 😻 to rub themselves on. And have you ever tried those gloves with rubber nubs on the palm & fingers?... then it's just like petting them (don't let them see it at first, maybe it's just the difference of an object in your hand that spooks them?) Good luck 🤞😺🤞

    • @@tammyrawdon3587 Thank you for the kind and super helpful response to my situation. I’ll have to look into the brush covers. I’ve unfortunately tried the gloves and I pet him ever so gently and he still got pissy at that and started attacking the gloves! Haha 😂

    • @@Trish37 🙉Wow, it sounds like he may have a low pain threshold? (I do & it really sucks 😿) But on the flip side, I/he'd also have a low pleasure threshold (once you find what he likes) 😉👍

    • @@Trish37 🤔My Polydactyl Australian Mist, Mr. Lobster only likes it when I pet/ brush him hard... he'll push harder against me (some guys like it rough 😉👍) 😹🤣😹 I think it tickles him when I do it softly? Maybe your cat is the same way? I've known long-haired cats who soil outside of the litter box, butt (pun intended 🤪) only when they 💩 bc of the position that they're in causing the fur to contact the litter differently & tickle their bum. I've done "sanitary shaves" for them & stops that behavior until the fur grows out 🤞😺🤞

  • My carrier has a door in front and on top. So I leave the top off and store all his toys in the carrier. He goes in sniffs all his mice, chooses one and brings it out to play. Carrier is under my sink in bathroom. Cat box is in shower because he lifts his rear and pees outside the box. He will not go in a hooded box. So the box is in shower until I need to shower, and I simply lift the edge of box and use hand held sprayer to get rid of accumulated urine daily. Pour boiling water on area before taking shower. While in shower, his box is on bathroom floor.

    • That's a clever work-around! Have you consulted a vet about the peeing outside the box?

  • Maybe it’s just my cat, but the foil on the counter hack doesn’t work. Within 5 minutes of me leaving the kitchen, she’s on the counters after I just cleaned them. So…I’ve resorted to making a barrier of cereal boxes when the counter is not in use. That works perfectly.

  • I appreciate these types of videos. Not so much for hanging on every word as gospel truth, but presenting some common challenges we face as cat owners and well thought out suggestions. Ì also appreciate the comments from viewers that highlight videos we see where in order to obtain content people do things that are not good for cats, like tying a balloon to their tail. I don't believe it's deliberate cruelty but it does show a lack of thought about the effect of pranks on cats, or any animal. The more these types of negative videos are pointed out for what they are, hopefully it will make all of us stop and think about our small friends, who do silly things all by themselves.
