man oh man, I would have loved this as a kid!
Thank you for this! I always love how you encourage your daughter to be her own person and set her up for successful learning. When my husband and I have our first child I inspire to be as mindful as you.
Thanks for sharing this. Just getting our house set up for our 16 both old to have more independence, and I reference your videos so much! 💕
Love these Montessori videos Kitty! You do it so beautifully. Please keep them coming!!
Ah the 5 gallon pump is genius! And to fill up the bowl only as far as the basin can handle! I’ve seen other designs that could lead to disaster, but this seems like it would lead to a manageable mess. I can imagine how exciting was for her and how many refills there were at the beginning. I’ll definitely be trying this when the time comes.
I thought the same thing when I saw it on instagram! Wish I could remember who it was so I could give credit!!
@@kittycotten Kevin Lu made a video about the Montessori kitchen w/ sink! I just watched his video on it :) Not sure if that's who you saw though
Thank you sooooo much for sharing this with us! Loved the water hacks! Beautiful!💖💛💖💖🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
Ahh thank you for this! We are setting up a kitchen for my 3 year old for Christmas
I love this. Definitely gave me some inspiration! We kept my sons kitchen & it was being used outside. I think now that sister is here I might modify it & bring it back inside (:
Thank you for this video! I just got the same kitchen set up for my daughter a couple of days ago and was looking for an alternative for the jar+spigot because I know my 2.5yo daughter will not let that type of setup last long. I was considering pumps but wasn't sure - seeing your setup helped me figure out how to get this working for us.
Solid bar soap is so much more environmentally sustainable 😁❤️
This might sound crazy but I’m thinking of using one of these as a kitchen in my micro camp trailer! It doesn’t have standing headroom and I’m always seated on a tiny stool when I’m not in the bed. I was thrilled to see your water setup, i think this will actually work for me! Thx for sharing
Just in time for Christmas gift inspo
SO CUTEEE. If only this were normal kitchen sized 😔😂 Love it!
So perfect thank you 👍
I like that idea of water pump
Love this! What is the size of the cutting board?
Do you perhaps have a video on how you did the IKEA kitchen DIY? It's so cute ❤️
Thanks for sharing! What color and how did you paint the kitchen? Spray paint?
So cute! We use a little squeeze bottle from the travel section of target for her hand soap and just keep it in the cabinet below. She likes opening the little top thing and it’s small enough to squeeze into her hands. :) I think I’m going to get another one for dish soap and make illustrated labels.
Love that idea!
My girl turns two next month for her bday we plan on getting her an ikea kitchen as well. Not sure if more excited then her hahha
I just got an automatic soap dispenser for my daughter’s kitchen today. I love the muted color you chose! When her kitchen was right next to mine she was more excited to work in her own little kitchen. But we did a reno and now no room for her kitchen so it’s back to the playroom. I’m a little sad that it’s not getting a lot of use like it did before but I’m hoping that it will get more use when my 1 year old is ready for snacks on the weaning table. Right now it’s used for cleaning paint brushes and storage for sensory bin tools.
This is sooooo cute! If I would have had a water pump like that for my two boys when they were toddlers, they would have thrown the water all over the house and made a big mess. lol!!
What color did you paint it? I love it
My husband drilled tiny holes in the ‘drain’ of the sink so the water goes right back into the bowl, it’s a good way to recycle but I do change it out every once in a while
Hi! I’m dying to know where you bought the black handles from. Could you please share a link?
This is great. I love the paint colors you chose. Maybe a little piece of Velcro under a soap dispenser would help to temporarily scaffold her learning and boost confidence? That’s what we are about to try with our 19 month old. Fingers crossed. Thanks for all the inspiring videos :)
That's a great idea!
Can you share what paint colors/brand you used for the kitchen?
Hi! Might you be able to share how you removed the microwave door? Thank you!
She has better stuff than me in her kitchen lol
Have you had any issues with the water splashing on the wood and warping it?
Nice
Where did buy the water pump?
Have you had any problems with the paint peeling?
Cute🥰
This is probably going to be a super random question but I need to ask you, cause I trust you! I love the whole kitchen set up and the Montessori philosophy, and most of all I love your aesthetic and your taste in general with your house decor! I see a similar aesthetic being applied to baby/children stuff such as this kitchen or toys, furniture, and room decor - and even though I absolutely love it - I wonder, does the lack of color affect the child's brain or creativity in any way? Some studies show that bold patterns with high contrasting colors help brain development in infants and young children. Are you as a mom worried about that at all? Lots of love
I don't have much knowledge in the cognitive aspects of color with kids. I have read little babies like high contrast items like black, white and red as their sight is still developing after birth. There are other spaces in the home that have more color like her playroom, her bedroom and few other spots. I've found what works best is a mix of neutral community spaces for my sanity and then I try and tailor her spaces for her (like painting her bedroom a bold color and hanging lots of her artwork in her playroom and few other spots around the home). Just what's working for us!
Hi! When I click on the pump link it doesn't take me anywhere, know the brand?
What color is the play kitchen ?
I am 9 and I still play with it
this remind me of molly madfis’ from @almostmakesperfect! have you seen hers? you should give it a look!
Loved her ikea kitchen hack!!
I’m new to this Montessori thing, but wow mind blown, I’ve never seen a “functional” play kitchen before.
Super interested in the "Water Pump Dispenser", but the link is wrong and I can't read the lable on it. Anyone that can help? :D
Sorry about that! Updated the link!
@@kittycotten no worries! Thanks for great content! :D
my daughter keeps pulling the water pump out. Any tips anyone?
Wow, this is a serious at kitchen . Can we see your kitchen too?
Our kitchen hasn't changed at all since we moved in! In the future we will update it to our style and few functionality changes, but for now it works! You can see the video here: kzhead.info/sun/q9ytkZp-mnehdIU/bejne.html
It's really cute, though I am a bit confused as to why it's not just a play kitchen - can't the little girl just wash her hands at the sink and learn the "real" way of doing it with just a step until she's big enough not to need one? On the one hand "real" cutlery and dishes and on the other hand a whole set up just for a child, seems a bit contradictory to me... My small grandkids use a real toilet and a real sink and real cutlery and dishes as integration in the family, everything is accessible to them to help and I'm sure they do as much as a "montessori" child or more. They learn to use a real knife and my granddaughter makes the best salad dressing, among other things. At kindergarten (from age 4) they learn to make fires and whittle sticks safely. It's just normal, I thought. They use this same play kitchen to play kitchen, with scaled down china for their playtime (traditional tea set). It just seems unnecessary to do this extra set-up? Open to education... (mother of 3, grandmother of 5 here).
I've found she far more interest in the real stuff than the play foods, appliances etc. This is just the setup that's worked well for our family and it's constantly evolving. I purchase most of my "montessori" type of kitchen stuff at local thrift stores to keep costs down. There are other paired down ways of having a small montessori kitchen space for your child with just a simple table or cabinet with a few dishes inside and maybe a medium size bowl and pitcher for washing their hands. Really the essence of montessori practical life activities getting them involved in everyday life and to help foster independence. I mostly got different bowls and plates for her because we only have a set of 4 between my husband and we've had some broken plates happen through the learning process, but many people opt to use plastic plates or just what's already in the kitchen. I'm not a montessori expert and am still learning myself! Harriet's currently in a montessori preschool environment and I've learned a lot through her school!
Montessori is all about kids doing real work and using real tools, but sized down to fit the child. So they are learning to do it the way an adult would. Such as, I don’t stand on a stool wash my hands, etc. Neither is wrong though, personally I do more of what you mentioned because that’s what works best for us.
cute how old is she?
She's 2 and a half!
So out of breath
