You missed the main point with the goat killing. She shot the goat but it did not die. She did not have another cartridge. while the goat was in agony she then went back to her car got another cartridge and came back and shot it. Where I come from this is animal cruelty. If an animal is a problem a vet can put it down for $40. Not to mention the goat was innocent. It's issues was that Noem had not had it castrated. Something country folk do. Where I come from she would be charged with animal cruelty over the botched killing of the goat

Well said. It was the epidosde about the goat which disturbed me the most, by far. She said that it had shown aggressive tendencies toward her children. Physical separation would have been wise in that case. I'm not one to sentimentalize over dogs, and appreciate the fact that her dog destroyed a neighbor's poultry, but this woman is downright CRUEL and trying to sell this character flaw as a virtue. I think she reflects a certain crude mentality and moral callousness which prevails in the MAGA 'movement', but not difficult to discern at the opposite end of the spectrum. as campus unrest currently demonstrates ('mea culpa' for the pun). To paraphrase an Old Testament proverb, the righteous person has regard for the life of his/her beast.'
She also killed three family horses.
My Grandpa used to raise hunting dogs and at any given time he would have roughly 35 different types of hunting dogs. If he deemed one was "untrainable" he would simply re-home the dog to someone who was only looking for a family dog. What she did was cruel and disgusting.

Very true. I worked in child welfare for many years and children that displayed cruelty to animals were hard to help even with good foster parents and intensive counseling.

I work in Ag and drove through Noem’s hometown of Castlewood just last week. Either the dog attacked people or it didn’t. She didn’t reference his violence toward humans till after the backlash. She shot it because he was annoying and she was sick of him/ I think they are expensive dogs too … she’s weird and an animal abuser

my father has been a lifetime member of the NRA since 1978. He is now canceling his membership. I have been a lifetime member of the NRA since I was 9. I am 24. I am canceling my membership. I live on a ranch that at its max held 23 horses, and up to 11 dogs. This is disgusting, coming from a lifetime hunter.

There is a direct link between lack of empathy for animals and being a psychopath. To admit she “HATED” the dog and to say that the Goat was "mean and nasty". We have a rescue dog who was abused and it’s taken time, patience and love to help this little guy’s behavior to where he is now, after 2.5 year with him. So the puppy wasn't a good hunting dog. We rescued a dig that wasn't a good cattle dog at that same age. His owner/breeder put him up for adoption. Now he lives with us going to the creek for walks and hanging with his adopted brother, living the best dog life. He's happy as, which that dog might have been too, if rehomed instead of shot dead.

Do you feel the same about women who are cruel to their unborn babies? I’m no fan of anyone hurting an animal and I would need to hear exactly what happened with Noem, but you can’t be for the protection of animals, and then flip and be for no protection for the unborn so I’m asking. If you have any excuse at all, you are being hypocritical to say the least. The life of a human is worth far more than an animal. That being said, I would never harm an animal unless it was attacking a small child or something or if it was deadly like a rattlesnake or a charging bear or something. The dog was on her 1st hunt- totally untrained (owner’s lack of judgment- most wouldn’t do that, I hear?) then she got all riled up, and her instincts took over and she went for the chickens… they need training- all her behavior was within normal for the breed, the age and the circumstances- a happy energetic tween who needed boundaries not punishment- electronic collars can also rile up a dog. (According to my dog- savvy friends). Most would just find a way to rehome to someone who knows how to train. Death the only option? I don’t think so- not after what was (and wasn’t) done to this animal. Not to mention, the kids. Wow.

When one buys or adopts a puppy, how the relationships advances often relies on the ability of the human to committ time and patience to training a rambunctious puppy to behave appropriately.
Her kids probably are still having nightmares about the puppy and goat.

Joe interrupts Mika multiple times in this video. She interrupts him once and he immediately corrects her. in an arrogant, superior tone. This is typical, though many viewers have pointed out this unacceptable behavior in the past MSNBC management needs to take action, Joe needs counseling. Painful to watch.

It would’ve been one thing if it was a farm dog or hunting dog that got in a serious accident in the nearest hospital was an hour away, and you knew it wouldn’t make it so you had to put it down. The puppy was so excited and Noem couldn’t stop her any other way, so she shot her. Let that sink in. Imagine the confusion for the poor puppy, the last few minutes of her life. And, by her description of the goat, he sounds like Donald Trump to me.
"Lawful" and "Morally right" are not synonyms. She could have taken the dog to a shelter and surrendered it just as easily. Also, she was *surprised* that a dog that (presumably) been trained to *hunt birds* was attacking birds?!?

I wonder about Noem's kids. I had a goat on my farm and my son was 5 years old. The goat would run up to my son, head down and stop within an inch or 2 when it got to him. My son is always kind and nice to animals!

She hated the dog, because it ruined her hunt and embarrassed her by killing chickens. It was her responsibility to train it and keep it under control. She could easily afford to pay for the chickens and a re-homing fee, if she couldn't train the dog properly herself. Shock collars create aggression, there are better ways. This behavior is sociopathic. The indigenous people in her state have also embarrassed her by forbidding her to set foot on their lands .....

Even if, after trying everything else, it became necessary to put a dog down, surely she didn't need to shoot her is a gravel pit. I've had to have several dogs put down in my life (due to bad health and/or extreme old age) but always by a vet in a quiet, respectful environment. Noem chose cruelty and then bragged about it. Shameful.
