The rabbit hole of lost media from the shows we watched growing up is very large so let's check out some memorable topics.

  • My son was born in 1997, so it was Nick Jr. and the Disney channel all day everyday, so it's nostalgia for me and I'm sure for my sons, I had another baby in 2000. I recorded many hours of Nick Jr shows with commercials and everything, I miss my kids being little, sometimes when I play those tapes to reminisce my wonderful times with them, I cry in silence.

    • Bro, Im a 98 kid and bro I feel the same way, but you got to experience most of the late 90’s early 2000’s and have recorded experiences of it. Wish we could go back, but we must go on into the future but never forget the past. Also I have tapes of Cartoon Network that I recently digitized from 2004, I use this vr emulator called emu vr to replicate the tv’s and experience my childhood once more ( I don’t have the space for a crt tv so this was the next best thing)

  • Something else interesting is that PBS Kids always seem to have interesting music choices for their bumpers every now and then. For instance, around 2005, there was a promo for Cyberchase that used the Black Eyed Peas song "Let's Get it Started", which that promo seems to be lost as well.

  • My parents both had “crack of dawn” jobs, so they usually had me up and around with them. Once we got Dish network in ~2003/2004, I was extremely engrossed in watching these shows while my parents got ready for the day. I distinctly remember my watching order preference went as follows: - Nick Jr. (If Blues Clues was on, my parents did not expect me to be willing to change channels) - Ready Set Learn! (Personal favorites included Hi-5 and the Save-Ems!) - PBS Kids - Playhouse Disney (caveat: Bear in the Big Blue House I would drop everything to watch, provided Blues Clues wasn’t on)

  • Speaking of Children's Television lost media, I have been looking for something that I can't seem to find anywhere. Its called 'Secrets of the Cryptkeeper's Haunted House', it aired on Saturday Morning on CBS in late 96 (Sept 96-Dec 96). It only lasted for one season & won a daytime Emmy I believe. You can pull up information on it, in somewhat decent detail so its not like people don't remember, its just not available to view outside of a few clips and an episode or two on KZhead. I've done some searching myself but it mostly just goes ignored. No episodes or DVDs seem to be available purchase either and I don't see any mention of VHS collections being sold. Would be awesome if someone could find this missing classic game show I used to love, the few times I got to see it.

  • I don't know why kid's shows have always been the most popular form of lost media. I think early on, the term was just being used like a catch all label for online content talking about theories and true stores of banned or unaired cartoons. I remember thinking, this is indeed very interesting, but why is the term "lost media" only being used for these specific situations of lost media? Later you and similar channels started talking about lost media in general, which is great

    • Nostalgia for these shows more likely explains it, alongside the fact that the anime scene wasn't well known for lost media hunting at the time as they mainly focused on fansubs & waiting for the next anime or dub to come out. Video games in particular were the most popular form of lost media before even kids' shows became a popular form of lost media.

  • Of note: PBS Kids Sprout was initially a joint venture between PBS, Comcast, Sesame Workshop, and HIT Entertainment. After various buyouts & shares being sold, Comcast assumed full control of the channel in Nov 2013, and renamed it to just "Sprout". It then changed into "Universal Kids" in late 2017.

  • Comcast had a channel called PBS Kids Sprout, that was eventually renamed to just Sprout once PBS launched their Kids brand as a digital subchannel. It’s possible there was a localized dub that aired on Sprout following PBS’ exit from the partnership, so searching contemporary TV listings might come up with something.

  • I could swear there's something familiar about that "Oswald/Osbourne" thing. Also, I assume the "alternate dubs" are more interesting to the people who speak whatever language the shows were dubbed in :-P And I do actually remember that "Stanley" show occasionally, when I think about a time when "logging onto the internet" was still a concept as opposed to computers and phones pretty much always being online (there were a couple of episodes where Stanley asked his parents or older brother to log onto the net with him)

  • This is sorta related to lost media but I vaguely remember this one show on TV in the middle of the night in the 2010's- 2013's. I think this show was a TV special since It played only once from what I remembered. It was Christmas related due to it being December but what I remembered, it was a puppet show with reindeer puppets singing songs and stuff. In the beginning of the special is a Christmas tree with lights and a fireplace in the background, which cuts to the puppets. This is possibly the only information that I know from my memory. This might not exist but I SWEAR I saw this on TV ONCE. Just wanted to comment this on here for some answers about this show I saw.

  • So I'm going to bring this up because I've been trying to put together when the Oswald commercial would've been and I distinctly remember being nearly a teenager while my younger sister still watched Nick Jr. and this commercial occurring. She also LOVED Oswald. So perhaps broadening the search up to about 2005 might help? Not to mention I know nick at night sometimes ran ads for children's television since some of the people watching it had grandkids or kids. I dug through some nick at night materials (circa 2002) and didn't find it then but perhaps others will have more luck if they see this. Happy hunting.

  • Speaking of lost promos and content between kids shows, there is a bumper prop from Fox Kids UK I have been looking for with no luck. My guess is that this aired late 90s to early 00s, but I am not exactly sure. Basically it was a compilation of a few cartoons Fox Kids UK was airing at the time (not sure if it was all cartoons though) and as it segmented between shows, music played with a man singing about the characters. I distinctly remember when a clip of The Tick from the The Tick cartoon came on (May have shown a close up of the Ticks face) and the man sang something like "You'd better beware when this guy's about" then the next clip, which might have been the last one showed a few clips of Sam & Max cartoon. I have searched through uploaded promos from Fox Kids UK but haven't came across what I remember seeing. It would be great if anyone knew what this was or were I could see the clip, would like to see it again.
