Like he said in his monolog they all act like they are woke but they took private jets and limos to get there. This privileged ass A listers like to tell everyone how to live their lives but don’t do it themselves. Big deal they didn’t eat meat that night for dinner.

America is 327mil people and has plenty of great comedians. Jerry Seinfeld, Bill Burr, Norm Macdonald, etc. Quit using this as an excuse to bash America.

SNL, The Norm Show, his Sports show, and NML all originated in the U.S. In addition, when asked in interviews, none of his comedian idols are Brits. I don't know where this idea of superior British humour popped up from but there is an enormous amount of contrary evidence. I'm also Canadian but he has clearly been moulded more by the U.S.'s comedic landscape than Canada's.

That’s all he needs to do, and there is no strict dress code for appearing on TV. He’s made the effort to show up and make interesting, funny conversation for the audience. Making an effort to “look nice” is perhaps the least important and superficial thing to care about, and something shallow morons like you would complain about.

Though I love both of these gentlemen, the idea that Colbert is some inferior to Gervais is simply not true. They're both damned geniuses. Colbert just happens to work for a major American television network, so the style most of us were used to from him...it's angles were filed down a bit to fit the new format.

    • I've gone off "The Colbert Report" recently, since it became all about Trump. I get the same reaction as Ricky Gervais who actually is a guest in America and doesn't have a vote (only an opinion and there are plenty of them) when the matter of President Trump is discussed. Never really liked the Gervais style of humour; I didn't much like "The Office" UK, possibly because I've worked in to many places that were very similar and the series of podcast, by: Gervais; Merchant and Pilkington while arguably innovative (and popular) just seemed to be a series of put downs, by two clever comedians and one "stooge". Similar in some ways to watching two countries with advanced weaponry bombing Libya perhaps. I saw little to laugh about; but recently I've changed my mind about Ricky Gervais (and Steven Merchant). I think the term genius (along with hero and celebrity) is used a bit too often but it is clear to me that Gervais is intelligent; sharp and like Colbert started out as a comedian. Presenting the Golden Globes by basically roasting the audience, was so obvious afterwards; but on the original point it is clear that Gervaise knows about TV shows and how they work. The idea of amusing a larger TV audience, by insulting a smaller audience of "celebrities" and powerful people in the industry; even: the hosts; sponsors and himself might be described as genius but is a calculated gamble, but I think Russel Brand did this first. How much of the Colbert Report is rehearsed I couldn't tell you; but I think Gervais set Colbert up with the initial handshake and pull; that way he could feign: exasperation; indifference and ask questions about Trump instead of answering them. The excerpt from the tweet war reinforces Gervais's stage persona of being combatitive and puncturing pomposity; it's his story to tell and I'm sure he knows about time constraints. Actually Gervais has worked: as a writer; starred in a TV series; franchised it; was a movie star (in "Ghost Town" a comedy take on "The Sixth Sense"); podcast; numerous interviews and the funny thing he may be the man for these times as invariably he plays "a moany faced git". His comedy lecture tour (yes; he can do that too); based on natural science got rave reviews ; so I would suggest that people stop being so critical about everything and let Gervaise get on with doing that instead; because he's good at that. Both men (in the clip) merit the title of professional comedian; both have worked in different mediums only Colbert with his Trump and the latest Russian allegation act has become stale. Gervais is certainly versatile; he's quick to adapt and he often says what people are hesitant to say. I though the interview went well. If you want to see Gervais suffer there is this chilli sauce challenge (watch?v=3qrNRzkwlbU) which is funny too.

Have fun in purgatory because Hell is full of enough of you already. I'd say a creator is factually a more rational belief seeing as though matter can't be created or destroyed, there is always something there so for something to be created from nothing there HAS to be a higher power beyond our understanding it's literally impossible for there not to be. And gosh, do some Christians these days _relish_ that idea. They cream their pants believing they'll get a front row seat to watching people they hate go through pain and suffering forever. What a sadistic feeling to _dream_ of the day you can get off watching someone in pain and not have to feel guilt or sympathy for them. That's what Heaven is to some of these frightened little people.

    • I don't believe in Heaven or Hell, but I also don't believe that anyone should enjoy being a spectator to someone else's suffering. Fundamentally, isn't it correct that a good Christian shouldn't be able to go to hell? So I would have utmost sympathy for them if they were placed there contrary to what they believed would happen. That would imply that the Christian God went back on his word, and that's not a god worthy of worship at all.

      @AtenRa@AtenRa7 жыл бұрын
    • Exactly. I can totally see how a pleasurable afterlife is something a person down on their luck in this life would look forward to. We'd all love rewards for going through our unjust circumstances; that's not even a spiritual concept to begin with, just a human yearning. It breaks my heart to hear some people say Heaven is all they have to look forward to, while others boast about Heaven and hoard it over people they hate.

    • As I said, it describes your claim to knowledge. Agnostic is without knowledge of a claim, gnostic is where you claim knowledge. You can be agnostic about any claim. This is what Ricky meant, when he said he is technically an agnostic atheist. He rejects claims that 1 or more gods exist but is open to evidence should it appear. He does not claim to know.

      @AsFewFalseThingsAsPossible@AsFewFalseThingsAsPossible7 жыл бұрын
    • AsFewFalseThingsAsPossible I'm atheist in regards to evidences/proofs (or lack thereof) of the existence of god/s. They don't have to have any theistic claims, just a simple question of their existence. But then like I said, I'm not totally 100% certain of that, that's why I'm agnostic as well.

      @jandreid1056@jandreid10567 жыл бұрын
    • AsFewFalseThingsAsPossible Exactly. I don't know (agnostic), but I don't believe (atheist) due to lack of sufficient evidence.

      @jandreid1056@jandreid10567 жыл бұрын
    • AsFewFalseThingsAsPossible Excellent point. People tend to forget that one can be an agnostic theist (which is slightly rational compared to being a gnostic theist) as well as one can be a gnostic atheist (Which is just downright dumb compared to being an agnostic atheist).

Maybe it's a good thing there's religion for people like that. Better for them to think that they'll be able to pleasure themselves to people being tortured after they die than to have them do that in life.

It goes hand in hand with how many fundamentalists believe that if there was no supreme being holding them in check that they would just start running around raping and murdering everyone. In that regard, they are actually quite nihilistic. It's hilarious. But, frankly, also quite disturbing, as well. :/

I know there's some lovely religious people out there, but loads of them hide behind religion, especially in countries where religion isn't as big anymore and the ones that are still religious are just sort of low lifes really. They do everything that god forbids, whilst being very very openly religious.

    • You’re glossing over all the sins we commit when we aren’t loving and giving everything to everyone. Believing in Jesus Christ to get into heaven has nothing to do with stroking God’s ego. God came to earth in the form of Jesus Christ to live a sinless, perfect life and shed His blood on the cross so that when you believe on Jesus Christ and are born again, His perfect righteousness is imputed onto the believer who then gives their life to serving Him out of love and a desire to save as many people from hell as possible. It’s all about the power of the blood of Jesus giving people the greatest gift of eternal life with our holy Creator YHWH; it’s not a system of narcissism and hate. I don’t know where you are as you’re reading this but I hope you always remember that whosoever shall call upon the name of Jesus Christ shall be saved.

      @alexrattray8807@alexrattray88072 жыл бұрын
    • It’s my understanding that since every good and perfect gift is from above and God is love and light and peace and justice, when you reject God, then you reject the creator of all of those good things and attributes. So hell is just the absence of peace, joy, justice, and so forth bc God isn’t there. It’s a choice to spend eternity without him. I think it’s beautiful that on earth, we all, regardless of our beliefs get to experience the attributes of God bc he so badly wants us to want to spend eternity with him. I know it can sound really out there, but I can’t help but believe in God after learning how detailed and specific our world is and the processes that have to happen just for our world to exist and for life to exist.
