It doesn't matter what it sounds like. The fact is that it picks up fast and go. Cannot wait to get my Limited Trd!
It's a GMC body powered by a Ford Ecoboost. Exact same displacement lol.. Oh yes, real "Game Changing" Toyota.
You don't understand motors and 10 speed trans
@Sandy its fast asf boi
I'll be waiting on this truck for a couple of reasons (oh, I"m getting one). 1. prices for any truck right now are crazy due to supply and I know there's those out there who "Have to have" one of these right now and don't care what they end up paying. Not me, I'll wait. I also want them to work out any bugs in the first two iterations as although it's a Toyota it is a brand new design and engine configuration. It overall looks like a winner, love the styling and a bi-turbo V6 is likely a winning combo for those who can deal with not having a V8.
I will drive mine conservatively. The 32 gallon tank should give it long range on summer road trips. Good to know merging won’t be an issue.
I ordered my 2022 Tundra TRD OFF ROAD two weeks ago and I have a build date of 12-15-2021. I am getting the Moon Rock color I currently drive a 2019 TRD OFF ROAD 2/4 and love my 5.7 and being 74 years old and an ex Deputy Constable I have a very heavy foot and have had mine up to only 127 mph and I still had an inch left to get the pedal on the floor. I can’t wait to hammer this twin turbo and see what I can get out of it. But I am also an RVer and tow a small camper and would not think of driving that fast pulling my camper.
Nice! Ours will be built aroound the same time!
Whoa, why didn't I see this vid? Completely missed it, haha! Going to watch (and enjoy) now!!
Enjoy man!
I owned a ford ecoboost. Great gas mileage when driving like a grandmother, HORRIBLE when the turbos kick in. I got a ecoboost when the gas prices were outrageous in 2011 and got rid of my Dodge Ram 2500 quadcab with an off road package. I was getting worse mileage with the ecoboost 3.5 litre than with the hemi V8 ! I missed the throaty V8 sound, and gas mileage.
My 2.7 ecoboost averaged about 18-19 and my 3.5 averages 17. My 5.7 ram and 5.7 tundra both averaged about 12mpg. Tuned on ethanol making 500whp my 3.5 still averages 15.4 so mine isn’t too bad
@@ctiggsbiatch All modded and tuned good luck with the powertrain lasting or being reliable!
Eager to see it on market. Hopefully dealers won’t add too much markup on this truck
They will, I just don’t know how much exactly. My parents reserved one, it’s arriving late Feb. they told us straight up, it will be marked up somewhat
Do you know if us '22 Tundra Platinum owners will be able to upgrade to the TRD exhaust at some point?
Nice thanks again for another cool video!
Thanks again for watching!!!
Do you know if you can turn off the in cab sound through the speakers? I get tired of my pro exhaust noise if I’m towing over passes and trying to talk. Everyday driving I love it so it would be nice to have the option. Thanks
Classically out dated like their cars haha
All it needs is bigger tires.. fkn fantastic!
Duuuuuuuude! This is how I drive every car that isn’t mine. 😅
Gotta drive it like ya stole it!!! haaha
Beautiful
The Tundra TRD Pro has me holding off on ordering a Bronco. I can’t wait until it’s here. Not 100% I’m going Tundra but damn it looks and sounds good. Looks fast!
It rips!!!
In the clip around 2:10 listening to the TRD Pro exhaust at idle, wouldn't engine be off as it's a hybrid?
If it’s charging up the batteries it will idle
This truck will get not much better mileage than the 5.7 because people do not drive them conservatively they generally hot rod from stop lights and drive way too fast on the interstate
I've been averaging 11.7mpg in my 3.5 tt ecoboost 2wd crewcab.
Tundra looks amazing in person!!
Glad you go to see it!
Trd Yon❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I love the new tundra, didn't u have a 2018 Honda accord sports?
No?
Is there a difference in interior sound between the iforce max and the iforce max with trd exhaust? If so, how much different? (in other words, is the trd exhaust worth it?)
The max I drive had pumped in audio. The other IFORCE didn’t seem to
@@TRDJon But was there a notable difference between the Pro and the Platinum pumped in exhaust? You could hear the difference between Max w/stock exhaust vs Max w/TRD exhaust from the outside, but was it different on the inside?
What are the hp and trq between the two engine platforms?. Which did you prefer?
I preferred the normal iforce when I was testing. I have full drive videos on my channel from this event
@@TRDJon The normal iForce only? Not the MAX, with more powah? Why's that?
Thank you for the test that a 16-18 year old would do. This is the test we all wanted to see, MPG, handling, and interior. Everybody has covered that, the holly - shit factor is what WE WANTED! THANK YOU!!!
Lol hahahaha no worries!
Tundra could be a decent half ton truck if they can get the turbo issues fixed and improve payload and towing to compete better with Ford F150. If you want to tow and haul, nothing beats turbo diesel HD trucks torque, payload or towing capacity. Its just a different ball game. I wish Toyota would have competed in the HD category to give another option but it's not in the cards. I tried towing a 10,000 lbs hauler with 1250lb tongue weight and the Tundra just isn't enough truck to make it a pleasant experience. Tundra will do ok towing "ultra lite" trailers under 30ft and maybe a bass boat.
I think it will be a decent truck but I'm keeping my 2020. I don't get it...no recovery points on a TRUCK? Almost as if they don't want to use it as a full truck.
Does the new 10 speed skip shift like the Ford 10 speed does? 1,3,5,6,7....
I haven't looked at what gear its actually in. But Im sure it is smart to adjust based on driving.
I thought I heard where toyota was augmenting the engine sound in the cabin of the higher trim truck. Is that true?
Yes
did you test 0-40 on 4x4 High mode ?
2wd
It sounds tough like a V8. Great engine
No it doesn't.....I have a 2020 and its not even close although it does sound excellent for being a v-6
Tough like a V8....😂
I'm so confused. Was there a different exhaust installed?
Fake engine noise
I really like owning Toyotas and I have for 20+ years now with my first being a Supra when I was 17 but honestly have become very disappointed with Toyota over the last few years. The BMW Supra, LC cars that are far too small for people taller then 6 foot, lack of updated tech, some vehicles lack trending features, the paint has become so thin bugs cause chips...lol. I seriously shouldn't have to PPF my entire 4 Runner. I can tell a huge difference in paint thicknesses from 1999 to 2012 to 2018 which were every year 4 Runner I've owned. When I watch reviews of the new Jeep Grand Cherokee and the Wagoneer or I drive a family members 20 Ridgeline because the bed is designed so well for 4x8 sheets I seriously think why would I buy another Toyota. Toyota needs to be far less conservative with the next gen 4 Runner or I am out. BTW the Supra an LC remarks kinda go hand in hand, once I knew it was going to be a BWM I considered the LC 500 but the damn thing was too small for me. Pretty bad seeing in the past I owned a 91 MR2 and fit no problem. Ok thats my rant thanks for the content Jon!!
I feel where you are coming from with that. And it’s no worries! I scratch my head too with them sometimes. Thanks for watching as always!!
Is it quicker than the F150 EcoBoost ?
no
That’s the good stuff!
That is is
If you’ve never driven anything turbocharged your in for a treat
"Give it the beans"? Oh no... Lol
Does it come in black?
Yes
Oooohweeeee
Can't wait for someone to put bigger turbos and chip that engine
While I have 0 needs for a PRO, this pretty much seals the deal for me.
1:56 V8 sound
Sounds like Toyota tried their best to make it sound like a v8
Look like Tacoma sound
Fake noise inside
Correct, pumped in noise on the iforce max
Just not a fan of it
That is some great computer generated sound
I can't get past that jay leno chin out front. The last gen wasn't beautiful but this truck with it's bass face and gm sides is awful. I can't believe toyota had all that time to make a nice looking truck bur gave us this thing.
0:45 😏
I have a 2007 crewmax sr5 and it sounds better than this 2022.. With no v8 choice I'll be heading to where I can get a v8 when the time comes. Toyota messed up without a v8 choice.
Just test drive it before you give up completely my friend.
They should’ve made the VA an option so if people still wanna date could get it. Personally I have an F150 with the TwinTurbo V6 and it’s more than enough power for that truck. I don’t know what the weight differences are between the two trucks but I’ll keep my F150
Manufactured sound.
Trouble is the new Tundra has fake V8 engine sound. How ridiculous.
No substitution for a V8, the V8 sounds so much nicer, oh well too bad for us 😆
The buyers need to have a choice.. v6 or v8 or hybid
I’m not gonna lie, a refined 5.7 would have been nice
A 5.7 I force hybrid would’ve been a real game changer
@@Jaimeleon20 No it wouldn't. All you would have ended up with is the worst "hybrid" on the planet. Just imagine Toyota ruining themselves trying to sell a hybrid that got city gas mileage on the highway. The hybrid/electric part of the engine only works at low speeds, so above 25 mph you're still just driving a gas guzzling V8.
I'm worried about how long the turbos will last. Can be costly to replace. Better last a couple hundred thousand miles to equal Toyota's reputation of long lasting reliability
I’m sure they will. The re engineered turbo cooling and all. But time will tell.
@@TRDJon I have had the f150 2.7 v6 twin turbo for over 5 years, 61k miles and 0 issues. I am sure this will be the same. I have even taken my truck deep in the mud and water.
That pro sounds so good inside the cab, and each variation sounds so much better than the F150 exhaust. I just got done listening to the 2021 raptor and it sounds like 💩.
Yea that 3rd Gen raptor sounds like a Nissan 350z
I have a raptor and I agree that’s why I got rid of it it sounded like crap.
@@hellraiserx9490 it’s a marvelous machine, don’t get me wrong, but the exhaust note is absolutely insufferable to my ears.
Yea love the look and capabilities but that exhaust. Ooooff
Is the noise real?
Looks like a Chevy and sounds like nice sounding v6, Just disappointing! Sounds way better then the ford eco boost though so I guess good job Chevy, Oops Toyota. I do hope they put that engine in the 2023 4Runner. My wife is buying that. Looks like I will be keeping my v8 tundra till it dies.
Who is Toyota trying to appeal to? Just sounds like an engine. These companies don't care about what something sounds like or feels like. There's the illusion of ruggedness and the promise of better top speed and mpg but a v6 is not going to have more off the line torque. I'd like to see trd lower it some and throw on an air dam and splitter and have it removeable if you want to get across uneven ground. Also TRD should put out some ventilated hoods like they did with the late 90s Supra if this is to be more of a street fighter pickup.
You have no clue about twin turbo v6s
@@alicepooper8562 you are a fan and that's ok. 8 cylinders means there's more power strokes per revolution. Period. So more torque from the lower rpm range than an engine with less cylinders regardless of forced induction.
LMAO after years of bashing the ecoboost now listen to the tundra girls
I know right
i’m confused where’s the v8 sounds
The artificial noise with the iforce max
Close your eyes and pretend..
Lol. Ask Sweers, where is the v8 sound. Oh that’s right he hyper charged a V6 instead. See how long he keeps his job when sales come in flat
@@tadduttke5584 sweers basically told Tundra enthusiasts to F off and pay the 70 grand and just accept a V6 with no other alternative. At least Ford was wise enough to continue offering the Coyote V8 to those people that still wanted a truck
@@freeravenadventures6925 amen too that
Hoover vacuum cleaner sounds better
They are definitely piping in fake exhaust note into the cab.
yep, I mention that in my full video. It's from the current 5.7 with a trd exhaust
I want to see this tundra versus F150 with a 3.5 L eco-boost in a drag race see who wins. To me the tundra is an imitation of the Ford F150 almost exactly.
TT and a v6 about all they have in common. The engineering is a bit different. I plan to find an ecoboost and also a v8 Tundra to see which is victorious.
Truck King does a nice comparison of all the new trucks, 0-60 towing a 7000 lb trailer. Should check it out....
The tundra gets full power almost 1000 rpm faster then the Ford.
@@vikkzx I’d like to,see them race .I’m sure somebody will be doing that in the near future
@@vikkzx Check out a recent Truck King video where they do 0-60 mph runs with all the makes, towing a 7000 lb trailer. The leader board results might disappoint you...
It will never sound like a true v8 just admit it. Sounds good inside but outside still sounds like a rice burner.
Tailgate looks like it’s already been rear ended.
The trucks with no v8.
1:15, the sound a Tundra owner makes when they're introduced to a modern engine in a truck. This kind of acceleration in a half ton truck has been around for almost 10 yrs now but hey........ better late than never. zzzzzzzzzzzz
Modern engine as compared to what? Last time I checked everyone else are finally going with DOHC 4 valve per cylinder. vvt tech. Toyota have been doing it since the first Tundra. If you are going with that logic, we can also say that ford copied the Iforce with their 5.0 litre coyote. Just saying😏
@@blazenamber9176 Watch the video again starting at 1:15 and then think, think really hard and then think again........ I think you can answer your own question. It's not rocket science. Just saying....
@@cwqrpportable You are correct, not rocket science. If you don't have an answer just say so, no need to ramble on.
Love this comment. So true. Bitter pill to swallow for customers of the Olde Tundra. At least the big3 offer large V8 engine options.
I like the truck all except the engine and the entire rear of the truck looks awful with the integrated bumper and whale tail tailgate. I would have thought they could have come up with something more impressive. The huge price increase would buy a bunch of v8 gas!
Just test drive a twin turbo V6, you'll come to your senses, and forget the V8 quickly.
@@darkdodger137 I drove a ecoboost and didn’t care for it or the 10 speed. I’ll ride my 18 Tundra until it quits and then I’ll probably get an electric truck!
Looks like a lowrider
I don’t like how it looks prefer my v8
Almost perfect truck, all it needs is a v8
...and a new front-end design
No, it still sounds like a V6 because it is a V6. Funneled in Fake sound just like the Raptor. Let's not pretend and insult V8s. Nobody asked for a V6, Mike Sweers and Toyota iforced it down our throats with no other option. The V8 5.7 iforce with the Throaty Growl TRD dual exhaust sound is now a thing of the past, sadly..
But I still “sounds” like a v8
We kept asking for a diesel and so Sweers gave us the closest thing to it (I-Force Max) without it actually being a diesel. He talks about it in the TFL talks interview. He also left the door open on a diesel coming to America in a few years. We'll see. I personally think they should've kept the 5.7 as an option with a 10 spd tranny and someother mpg gaining tech, but then I dont think anyone would buy the V6
Don’t get on that V6 too hard, it might blow up
With the turbo V6, you're not going to see many of this generation Tundras with 2-300k miles on them in the future. Turbos will fail and the V6 will be overworked.
Name a Toyota motor that doesn’t last 200-300k miles. You think they haven’t tested this motor? It’s built for a turbo it’s not just slapped on. Semi trucks go well over 500k miles on a turbo. Plenty of them in Lexus cars and suvs
Time will tell
@@Alex-uz7wd semis have diesel engines which are built for hauling. Not even a close comparison. How many of those Lexus haul and tow on a regular basis? They are babied. Toyota can test all they want, but they can't duplicate time, weather and abuse by the owner. More parts = more parts need replacing. No getting around that.
you have no idea what you're talking about.
@@andyleo8418 You first stated that "turbos will fail". Not sure what you're basing that prediction off of, but okay I'll play along. Alex pointed out the common use of turbos in 18 wheeler applications, but you go on to talk about diesel engines being built for hauling. Diesel engines don't improve the durability of turbos so what does diesel engines use have to do with the turbo failure you first mentioned? An unreliable turbo would fail no matter if it's attached to a diesel commercial grade engine or a private passenger car/truck, right? The point I think Alex was trying to make is that your paranoia about mass produced turbo engines in general is misplaced. I own a 2019 twin turbo V6 F150 and I have not been back to the dealership for anything but scheduled oil changes. Ford has had twin turbo V6 F150s on the road since 2011. 10 years later and there is no mass recall of exploding turbos from Ford, and Ford has plenty of recalls, just not any for failing turbos. Those trucks have racked up tens of millions of miles combined. Yet you're on here sounding like you're hiding in the basement, clutching your tin foil hat, and lecturing everyone about the turbo doomsdays lol. One more thing: I can't speak for Toyota, but Ford's twin turbo engine blocks are made from the same cast iron used to make the diesel engines in their Super Duty line up, so they are literally the same strength as the diesel engines "built for hauling."
Dang I miss the V8 sound. EPA…leave our trucks alone
"Very throaty for a V6" basically means they're piping in sound via the speakers (really??? it's very common & very sad). The bottom line for the V6 replacement of the V8... 1) It's all being done under duress (to meet EPA requirements) & 2) If you drive it hard (to get V8 performance) you will get V8 gas mileage (at best). Let's Go Brandon!!!
Kids (who will never purchase any of the vehicles they brag on and/or diss) have entered the chat. 🤦
New truck has brought a lot of haters out.
@@TRDJon new to the site but man this thing is ugly. jay leno chin. bass face and a carbon copy of a gmc from the side.. The last edition looked way way better.
They are definitely pumping V8 sounds into the cab...
It’s just so ugly though
The sound is unspectacular. Nothing special. Would go as far that the Camry TRD sounds the same. Gone is the great V8 sound of the olde
