  • The CH-47 Chinook is a beautiful helicopter, I want it to remain operational for many more decades, and never need to be replaced from the new helicopter.

  • The UH-1D, H “HUEY’s” were the best sounding helicopters ever! I use to hear them miles out inbound - then see them 10 minutes later flying over-head in V patterns when I was a kid in the 1970’s and 80’s. One time they flew low just above the houses. That rhythmic thumping sound that you hear coming when they are 3 miles away is amazing. Its something you just never forget.

  • For those wondering, the reason why the Chinook does not have a tail rotor is because the dual rotors rotate counter clockwise and cancel out the torque effect on single rotor craft which requires the tail rotor to counteract.

    • Phasing the rotors is a common maintenance practice. Each blade is 33 feet long and weigh approx 236 lb. At 100% rotor speed, the blade leading edge generates 20 tons of centrifugal force. We direct passengers to exit away from the front of the aircraft due to blade dip.
