  • I was there watching the 4th of July boating per routine, front row seats watching this happen. It was (per usual) the jet skiers fault. They were messing around in the north side of the inlet inside the entrance doing tricks and jumping over wakes absolutely ignoring traffic rules. The boat was coming in on the right side of the inlet, as he’s supposed to, had multiple boats close behind him and multiple jet skiers crossing in front of his path and messing around him. The jet skier crossed into his path last second and tried to make a turn to portside but couldn’t get out of the way on time. Also, what you don’t see on the video is that the captain had another jet sky and rocks nearby on his starboard side and couldn’t make a big turn to dodge (although you can see last second he did try to avoid once he noticed the jet sky being a total idiot and actually get in his path last second). But I don’t think he actually got hit, might have just been the boats wake, but maybe just grazed him. What’s fucked up is that the lame jet skiers posse ganged up on the boater and when the police got there it was multiple jet skiers words against the captain’s. Bottom line: it’s the larger vessels right of way, he’s on the right side of the inlet, he can’t stop or reduce speed to quickly cause he has multiple large vessels behind him also at cruising speed, also jet sky is on port side of vessel so he has red light (not that it really matters in this situation, but a nice detail) and the jet skiers where fucking around in the inlet where they shouldn’t. Sad that this guy’s 4th of July had to be ruined by typical jet skiers behavior

If you’re riding a motorcycle and you cutoff a semi you shouldn’t count on the semi knowing you’re there or taking action to protect you. You have the tools to avoid danger. You just have to apply some common sense

Once he starts circling and gunning they lose any right of way they might have thought they had. They are like motorcycles playing chicken with cars and semis on the interstate.

  • Boat size does not determine right of way at all. The boat coming from the right has right of way when two boats are maintaining a steady course. It appears though that the jetskis were largely at fault if they were spinning and doing tricks, but at the time the boat hit the jest ski, it looked as if he was going in the same direction as the boat, in which case the overtaking vessel must give way, so the boat would be at fault if the jetskis was on a steady course. The boat skipper is at fault for barrelling through too fast in an unsafe manner with no regard for their safety when he must have seen them ahead of him. He should have slowed down and given a long blast on his horn to warn them. Then there would have been no collision.

    @haddock782@haddock78210 ай бұрын
    • What about the more maneuverable boat? Sure looked like the jet ski crossed the less maneuverable boat's bow instead of giving way while heading out perpendicularly or out on the port side of the channel. Jetskier will probably have to pay for the scratch on the boater's hull.

      @ruhroah5044@ruhroah504410 ай бұрын
    • @@ruhroah5044 If both vessels are maneuverable, it is not a question of which is more maneuverable. It is a question of right of way, the same as on the road, it does not matter about the size of vehicle. They all have to obey the same rules. The exception of course is a large ship that cannot manuever to get out of the way of a smaller craft coming from starboard. In this case it is confusing, because the jet ski may have been on a steady course at the time of impact, or may have been spinning. In either case, the boat should have take evasive action and should not have just plowed through. It would be interesting to know what happened in court, or who was made to pay.

  • 100% of comments say the jetski was at fault for hot dogging in the busy inlet. Jetski 2 was pissed because the boat veered towards him, but the boat was veering to avoid jetski 1 at the time. Its fun to play in the waves and current that form at the inlet, but cops need to start arresting anyone goofing off in the inlet for hazardous operation. This is a highway and a choke point for traffic. Move through and move on. Its not a Disney ride.
