Korean brand lands a mid-size electric SUV that’s cheaper than a Tesla Model Y and roomier than a Kia Sportage
Kia is readying the third member of its rapidly growing new-generation electric vehicle family: the 2024 Kia EV5.
Following in the wheel tracks of the pioneering Kia EV6 and the larger EV9 seven-seat SUV, the new EV5 is a mid-size electric SUV that will compete with the likes of the top-selling Tesla Model Y.
Chief to the EV5’s expected appeal in Australia will be an attractive entry price close to $60,000 and a long real-world range.
Sam Charlwood ran his eye over a pre-production version of the EV5 currently in Australia, ahead of its local release in coming months.

  • You hit the nail on the head at the end if Kia gets the pricing right, GT variant $70k drive away would be the right price. Otherwise, no thanks.

    • The LHD version in China starts at USD 19500/= I was expecting the price in Australia to be less than Australian $ 40,000/=

  • Love the design and I'm happy that Kia is not bringing it with a heavy price tag, but the interior has too much cheap plastic. 60k is still not cheap as such. I know Tesla isn't the benchmark on interior as well, but Kia needs to change that it makes it look very cheap and more like a Chinese car

    • There's 10-plus year old Nissan Leaf for sale on carsales and they appear to be fine. Sure, range degradation is in there, but they're still running.
