    • Considering he ate absolute ass on that landing he was right to be afraid lmao The movie makes it very clear he's still just a rookie, who's only 2 years in his pastime as a crime fighting vigilante. I really appreciated moments like these that shows how the character fails. Its like how an average person looks at someone in the olympics and thinks "..yeah i could probably do that". No they couldn't, its just because they're so flawless its hard to see the mastery and difficulty there actually is. He struggles to improve and destroys himself physically and mentally in order to do so. He did some amazing acting with his eyes and jaw during scenes like the confrontation with Riddler (that moment he realized Riddler doesn't know who he is especially). Anya Taylor Joy in the Queen's Gambit is also another great performance of a very reserved character, there just aren't that many of them. Usually the stoic/reserved character just comes off as boring.

  • What made Robert Pattinson great was that he didn't make a Bruce Wayne/Batman like the other ones rather than borrow from the other ones that made it his own. He had human emotion we can relate to that he was going through with his childhood trauma and this was his 2nd year as Batman. He didn't know how to handle his rage on his rogues gallery of villains. He didn't need dialogue in scenes like the funeral scene because we knew what was gonna happen. His acting as Batman was a version that no one was expecting as to other versions. His acting in other movies like The Lighthouse and Tenet made me realize that he can take on any roles that people need to give him a chance to shine and that's what he did as for The Batman. He moved on from his Twilight years that he molded his image as being Batman now than in 2008-2012 with Twilight. He finally found fame that he wanted for the role as Batman because he didn't want to be secluded from years past with other films leading to The Batman.

  • Something I like about Pattinson as Batman is how he is able to be so reserved and express so emotion only through his eyes while still trying to keep control of himself. Much like Keaton and Conry, Pattison is able to portray as this hero who, despite all the situation he comes across never shows himself scared, in shock or nevours, or at least try to not show this emotions, always looking brave and thinking in his next step. This not only helps his Batman look more badass but also makes the moments where he breaks down and shows his vunerability much more impacful. The final between him and Selina is a great exemple, as Batman acts stoic and self-controlled but it's easy to see through his eyes alone he is hearbroken and cleary wants to tell Selina who he is and that he has feelings for her.

  • It's really pathetic how reactionary people are when it comes to casting choices. Like, I was not a fan of Twilight, but I still understood that for a young actor, it was a good job that anyone trying to break into the business would have accepted. So holding the fact that he did those movies against him was just utterly stupid. People were the same way when Michael Keaton was cast as Batman in the Burton films, then the same fanboys for years would claim he was the best to don the cowl. Pattinson's situation is surely the same now. By far my favorite Batman ever. His talent is undeniable and his performance was absolutely first rate. I guess what I'm saying is, people need to stop jumping to conclusions about casting choices based on whether they liked the other movies the actors had been in. See the actors' other work before you make assumptions about their abilities, and try to keep an open mind.

  • The Mayor’ son played such a massive role in each pivotal act for The Batman… I obviously love how Matt Reeves trusts the audience with the knowledge of Bruce’s past. I did love how much silent acting there is from Robert Pattinson, allowing his eyes to do the job. He only spoke when it mattered. His reaction to sunlight, wearing shades to cover his eyes… that moment of levity with Selina’s cats because I guess Ms Kitty and the crew know a good human when they see one… The first scene… I do see Bruce when he looks at the boy while the detective with Jim Gordon… is all Batman. Oh and can we just appreciate the chemistry between Robert Pattinson and Jeffrey Wright? “The mustache with the broken nose” The second is of course that church scene. But that third scene, I kinda expected that the boy would be among them… but I honestly hoped he would be because he made the journey worth it. If a boy who just lost his father isn’t afraid of a “freak”, then nobody should… That scene with the flare… I had goosebumps! Right at year two, Batman becomes that symbol of hope for a better Gotham. And I’ll say this: “Ave Maria” has never sounded more unsettling.

He doesn't sit around sniffling and writing poetry about hot topic. I'd say he's more goth in attitude, coming off as creepy and dark, spending his time obsessing about criminals and the morbid stuff they do, trying to understand why they do it, how they're capable of doing it. I especially love when he apologizes to Selena, not in abstract about what she’s been through, but specifically for saying something that was both inaccurate and hurtful. such a refreshing change from the cocky playboy Bruce and flip side Batman of many of the recent films - I agree wholeheartedly that this is the film where we most see Batman and Bruce unified, although we know eventually their identities will diverge more dramatically. I’ll take noir detective Batman over any of the flashy military-grade toys and casual throwing around of money and women ANY DAY.

  • I love the eye movements.. Him studying the scenez and the criminals, him keeping his head tilted, eyes low and not making eye contact. He like the riddler is also an incel and born of trauma and have the same idea of how they can make the world better.. Through violence and fear. I love that there is no bruce way.. He IS the batman. I loved that they didn't make him randomly stand on a gargoyle or make him hang upside down like a "bat". I love that they don't call anything batmobile or batcave or bat something. Realistically, only an idiot will do that or someone interested in marketing themselves. There is nothing comic book about him and i think that's how I always imagined batman's vibe. I think this is the first time i felt like i understood the man in the costume more deeply. Its a character driven acting performance. Nolans movies feel like batman is in service of nolan's movie. Here the movie is in service of the batman. I hope this kills the snyderverse.

    @akshayde@akshayde2 жыл бұрын
    • Amen! The Snyderverse had the worst Batman ever, and I am not talking about the actor here but about the character. The Batman has the best Batman ever, and I am talking about the actor as well as the character arc here. My favourite Batman movie is still Batman Returns because of its outlandish comic book mood and great design choices for Gotham City and all the characters. But in terms of comic book verisimilitude and depth of characterisation, The Batman is easily the best Batman film in the entire DC live action franchise. Joker had another great depiction of Gotham City, and Batman Begins was also quite close to the comics in mood. Those four are my favourite Batman related DC movies. Other fine ones based on DC are Shazam! and Birds of Prey, as these also have a style and voice of their own, each in its own way building an entire world that is ever so well suited to what the respective story wants to tell. V For Vendetta and Watchmen were good movies, but both did not really do the comics justice, which are so, so much better and wider in scope - both thematically and stylistically. When it comes to Marvel movie adaptations, I prefer Sam Raimi's first Spider-Man movie, Ang Lee's Hulk, James Mangold's Logan the Wolverine, and the animated Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, above all others.

  • I think I this is simultaneously the most human and most ghostly we’ve ever seen Batman. I think Pattinson put it best when he said that he felt like in every scene he was replaying Bruce's trauma over and over and that it informs every decision he made as the character. It was a really phenomenal performance and in a franchise where the protagonist is typically overshadowed by his more extroverted, colorful antagonists, it’s the most interesting that Batman has ever been.

I based that more on other's opinions and feelings with my own distaste of the Twilight series. However, over the time since I heard he was going to be the next Bruce Wayne, I've seen him in several different roles, and he always left me surprised and very well pleased. Over that time my opinion shifted from not being happy about him taking the role to excited to see what he would do with it... and holy shit, he did not disappoint at all. Out of all the movie series I've ever watched, I am most excited to see more of these and where it goes.

  • I think it’s amazing how well he manages to bring the character across to the audience despite depicting introversion at the level of realism that is rarely seen on screen. I mean, most of us, especially the introverted thinkers, really don’t show much variation in expression at all, irrespective of how we’re feeling. Onscreen depictions usually have to amp it up slightly on the facial shifts or use more words or something to emote stoic introverted characters. I’m impressed he could do without either, makes me wonder if he’s an introvert in real life.

  • I didn't have a problem with Pattinson's casting, he has demonstrated that he is a good actor. I was glad that they have someone younger than Affleck and Bale which can give the time for sequels over a few years without him seeming too old for the physicality. Too thin was my problem with Pattinson and he did add muscle for the role without it being a ridiculous looking steroid induced amount. Pattinson could definitely emote the pain of Bruce Wayne and the fear Batman had when faced with facing to use a certain feature of his suit (no spoilers) for the first time.

Robert Pattinson has grown so much as an actor, and I know there are criticisms about his twilight saga days, but if you read the books he did bring that character to life. I’ve followed him since Harry Potter and he has only gotten better. His role in Batman was exceptional!🥰 it was the Batman I wanted to see. The thing Is, most of the other Batman movies were just another action movie, Batman was just like you said, more of a playboy. I did enjoy however the 1989 and 1992 versions directed by Tim Burton. • I'm kind of curious to see if Bruce Wayne will kind of morph into a more playboy-ish style of character in the sequel? I remember in Batman Begins, it wasn't until after a certain period of time that Alfred tells Bruce he has to adopt a persona that would steer people away from thinking he's batman. Perhaps we got a hint as to what we'll see in the sequel when Bella Real says, "you know you really could be doing more for this city." I think what makes Pattinson so awesome for this role is that he has prior experience in other movies being the playboy billionaire in cosmopolis, but he also perfects this iteration of Bruce/Batman so well. He could do either.

    @AUTZEN-ZONE@AUTZEN-ZONE2 жыл бұрын
    • My issue with past Batmans is that I never could really believe them as the Bruce Wayne playboy persona. Even though I know in real life, as long as you’re reasonably decent looking and with lots of money, society will be happy to imagine you’re the sexiest thing on legs. But Pattinson *actually can* sell the playboy billionaire persona equally as he has shown he can sell his version of Batman. All that’s missing is the story for how he managed to develop that persona from the current introverted, self conscious youth in this movie.

This is by far the best adaptation of The Batman I’ve ever seen watched it for the fourth time and cannot wait to see it again. I am a massive Michael Keaton fan and loved the 89/92 Tim Burton films. I also enjoyed most of the the Nolan trilogy with some expectations of Batman Begins corny dialogue poor fight scenes and fatman costume. Also the last 1/4 of The Dark Knight boat/ship scenes and last half of the The Dark Knight Rises, which didn’t make much sense and felt rushed. I laughed when I heard he was gonna be batman but I'm glad I was proved wrong when I heard about the later films. I am so glad he's Batman because I feel like he really brings him to light. It really is about how to direct an actor at times because you can have the most talented person (in general) but having a director that can't direct is what makes or breaks a movie sometimes. HUGE EDIT: I totally forgot he was in HarrybPotter, not because the role was small but because he for the most part wasn't in the HP series for long. I think for 1 movie with little screen time for the most part and then dies. Then after his name is only in passing, either way I forgot he did that FIRST before twilight🤦🏾‍♀️.... and yes of course I loved him in that buty brain can only hold so much haha.

  • I think it's because this Batman shows how much the murder of his parents affected him. We didn't see that in the other films (the closest we got to seeing that was the flashback of the murder in Tim Burton's Batman). But in this, we, the audience, see how Bruce turns out; he doesn't look people in the eye when he talks, hardly talks and he's a recluse shut in and he doesn't speak to Alfred. A good example is at the scene when he's talking to Falcone at the funeral and Falcone brings up how "his father isn't around," Bruce doesn't snap back and just lets Falcone walk all over him to the point where he talks about how his father saved Falcone's life, how his father "took the Hippocratic Oath,". I personally just loved Robert's performance to the point where I just felt hypnotized watching the film. Reeves really made the best choice as taking the route where Bruce isn't a playboy lady killer but a poor fallen prince who looks like Kurt Cobain with the personality of a scared little puppy. Can't wait for the sequel!

He has been my favorite actor since and when he was announced to be the Batman I was so happy but sad that people couldn't see past twilight. Also a thing about him working out, a big reason he didn't want to bulk up besides the creepy build, most actors to be superheroes take steroids and have to remain silent about it or risk being blacklisted. At least that's my speculation based upon contradictions stated by said actors and their chefs and trainers, plus just the science of people like kumail nanjiani getting that jacked while being as normal looking as he was before is just not possible within a year unless there is some serious unhealthy workouts and workout times and steroids

I think they show this really well in the film the 3 times he goes to 43 Below. First he goes as Batman, causes a whole scene and doesn't totally get what he wants. Then he goes as Bruce Wayne and it's a similar story. But finally he goes as Batman "dressed up" as Bruce Wayne and he's able to get in, do what he wants, and potentially have a contingency plan if he got caught going in the front door

  • This is such an underrated film. The whole singular idea, by Matt Reeves, that this is a man who is unhinged and unhealthily obsessed with fighting the criminal element at night who is constantly beating criminals to a pulp with his bare hands and with his unlimited amount of vast resources at his disposal. All he sees in the criminal element, in this corrupt town that his family helped to build and found dating back to the late 1800s, are the people who killed his parents as a young child making him an orphan. So, he dons the mantle of that which he fears the most, in the form of the Batman, after training for the majority of his life to rid his city of the evil that took his parent's lives. He dosen't know who was responsible for killing Thomas and Martha Wayne so every criminal he sees, to him, is the criminal that killed his parents on that fateful night when he was only 10 years old. He is addicted to this mission, like a drug, so as both Bruce and Batman, he spends all of his time, trying to succeed in this impossible task he has set up for himself. That's why he never sees the light of day as Billionaire Bruce Wayne and is a social outcast and pariah. He is a man driven by vengeance; by revenge. By the end of this journey, as we see Bruce on a physical, mental, emotional and psychological level and transform from a young, naive, impatient man who makes mistakes still early in his career as a crime fighter we see him then become something else by the end...a symbol of hope, an ideal, a form of inspiration that makes criminals terrified to step out at night and commit their atrocities that makes Gotham City one of the worst places to call home. A city with a history and a foundation steeped in corruption and crime that ties back to the Wayne family and and their vast fortune. It also plants the seeds that will give him the inspiration to step out in the light of day to transform into the billionaire, playboy industrialist more interested in dating models and driving fast cars in order to hide in plain sight so no one would be able to distinguish Bruce Wayme is actually the Batman. A man consumed by vengeance who transforms into a symbol of hope. Obviously a film inspired by the comic book mythos and Arkham video game series and Batman animated series from the 1990s. Ironically, a film consisting of character arc transformations and worldbuilding moments that is actually one of the most faithful Batman comic book movies to the original source material in the 1940s. Such as Detective comics issue 27 from 1937 and batman issue 1 in 1940 created by Bob kane, Bill finger and Jerry Robinson. Then, the new 52 comics such as court of owls and Zero year by tomeu morey, john ottley, Jim lee, Scott Snyder. Batman year one by jim lee, David Mazuchelli and Frank miller as well as Batman: the long halloween and Batman: ego and other tales. This essay is lterally just scratching the surface of why it's actually one of the best batman films yet up their with the likes of the Dark knight from 2008.
