2016 Honda HR-V RU 1.8L CVT Transmission FWD
Code P0796 Honda Possible Causes
*Low transmission fluid level
Dirty transmission fluid
Faulty pressure control solenoid valve 'C'
Pressure control solenoid valve 'C' harness is open or shorted
Pressure control solenoid valve 'C' circuit poor electrical connection
*How do I Fix the Code P0796 Honda?
Check the "Possible Causes" listed above. Visually inspect the related wiring harness and connectors. Check for damaged components and look
for broken, bent, pushed out, or corroded connector's pins.
*Code P0796 Honda
When a transmission solenoid has malfunctioned, in most cases the problem is not the electrical part of the solenoid; the problem is foreign material obstructing the mechanical function of the solenoid or the flow of the fluid through the transmission valve body. If the transmission fluid is dirty, it's recommended to change the transmission fluid and if possible, remove the transmission pan for further diagnosis. Excessive debris or metal particles on the transmission pan could be an indication that there is a mechanical transmission failure, and that the transmission will need to be rebuilt or replaced.

  • Thanks for showing. Our 2016 HRV EX-L CVT just crashed. It's my wifes car and only 88k miles when the CVT destructed. Honda says lifetime fluid but that's irresponsible. Honda has an extended Warranty but they would not do anything for us being 3 months out of the extended warranty (for this known defective transmission). This will be our last Honda based on the poor reliability, high cost of replacement, and Honda not helping at all for their poor quality and design. We have had 5 Hondas all early models that were very reliable but the newer ones had less quality and especially this 2016. Thanks for sharing the destroyed junk Honda CVT.

    @Reb7771@Reb77712 ай бұрын
    • Yeah, don’t listen to the manufacturers when it comes to “lifetime” statements. We own a 2014 Honda Accord 2.4L with the CVT. It’s been a wonderful car for a decade. And the CVT has been amazing. But I must admit, I do a drain and fill of the CVT every two oil changes. This has kept the transmission happy for all these years. 88k is too extreme of a fluid change interval. It was bound to break around that mileage without ever being serviced.

      @MrSamPhoenix@MrSamPhoenixАй бұрын
    • This is why every time I go shopping for a car (doesn’t matter which brand) always and I mean ALWAYS ask about transmission service history and for proof if possible. Most people do not service the transmission and then they think “oh the quality must not be good anymore”. Honda CVTs have generally been good but changing the fluid every 30,000-50,000 miles is crucial for long lasting performance. Unfortunately with most newer cars, the transmissions are sealed and cannot be opened unless you have a hoist and special tools to check. I’m glad my 2006 Accord has a transmission dipstick. P.S., CVT fluid gets dirtier faster than regular geared automatic transmission fluid.

  • I've got a Honda Jazz/Fit from 2005. Very slight judder when I take off. Not an issue really. I've changed the fluid, no change. I've considered using the Xado EX120 additive which has amazing reviews for my car for this issue. But I'm just curious to know what people think causes this issue? Apparently there is some gear teeth that may be worn, or starter clutch issue. Thoughts anybody? :)

    @TheChargeShow@TheChargeShow Жыл бұрын
    • That Honda Jazz/Fit has a regular automatic transmission instead of a CVT. Apples and oranges. I have a 2009 Fit and a 2016 HRV. Each has a completely different transmission. Even though the Fit shifts more abruptly, I prefer it over the CVT which always seems to be hunting for the correct gear ratio. Honda did a recall on my Fit's CVT to check if there was any damage. The local Honda garage checked it, re-programmed it and extended the warranty to 150K miles. It shifts better than before (not so much hunting for the correct ratio) but it still shifts like a CVT. So far, so good.

  • Toyota from 2019 cvt s are different .they istalled first start gear in cvt to avoid belt failure. when car starts the first gear makes car to move ,after that we will see belt in action after 30 kmh .of course every transmission needs to get fluid changed at most 40k and this oil must be original brand fluid that manufacture claims . Not many people with cvt failure want to admit that mostly cvt or regular automatic transmission failures are because of outdated maintenance or car usage in extreme conditions .

In Chicago there are many Toyota hybrid cabs, and cabs typically aren't "spared". So go for a Toyota/Lexus hybrid and you won't have any issues.

    • The Toyota CVTs are not belt driven CVTs either. They are eCVTs which are mechanical gear driven transmissions and not the absolute junk of these new Honda/Subaru and Nissan CVTs. The Toyota Hybrid eCVTs are rock solid and can outlast the life of the car. Fluid changes are easy but critical. They are critical for the Honda CVTs too but Honda says lifetime fluid which contributes to failures. Now Honda has backtracked and says change every 30k (which they should have done all along if honest). Our transmission shop nearby sees lots of failed Honda CVTs and advises there will likely be a class action lawsuit for this garbage.
