They cut the route split quite late into development, the code for Annette and Felix showing up on that chapter works and is fully voiced for multiple characters, the only thing that doesn't work is the character portraits remain the same. You just need to remove Annette and Felix from your roster. You can view this in the video: Fire Emblem 3 Houses - Azure Moon Ch18 Impossible/Unused Battle Conversations

@@michaelgrant6899 Dimitri is marching on Enbarr, and nothing can convince him to do otherwise. Rodrigue, due to his promise to Lambert, will follow, to try and save Dimitri from himself, and Rodrigue's men will follow Rodrigue. That leaves the only allies they can count to be the Knights of Seiros, and they can't take down Fhirdiad with just the knights, without the rallying call of the Blaiddyd bloodline to inspire rebellions amongst the oppressed populace. Besides, if they march on Enbarr, there is a not inconceivable chance that Claude/The Alliance join on their side, and if memory serves, the combined forces of the two are roughly equivalent to the Empire's. Given that keeping Dimitri alive comes with it's own benefits, both practical and emotional, and his temperament, It's the least worse choice amongst a variety of bad options. I don’t know if you already know the game or not, but speaking of chapter splits, there’s Triangle Strategy (it’s not fire emblem but it’s similar). You have vote making phases every other chapter that determine what battles you fight depending on what choice has the most votes (which you can influence if you successfully convince enough of your main party to agree with you), then the endings depend on the last vote session’s result. The last vote session is the most heated one because each main choice results in one of the 3 deuteragonists (Roland/Frederica/Benedict) disagreeing so strongly that they leave your party (just like it was supposed to be with Annette and Felix here if you chose to go to Enbarr first). There’s even a golden ending if you make very specific story decisions, where you won’t lose any ally and it ends in a happily ever after.
