Are We In Control? Has Everything Already Happened? (ASMR)

I share my subjective thoughts and explore the questions regarding whether or not we have any control whatsoever over our own minds, bodies, lives, "futures" and "destinies", as well as whether or not everything about our lives and within the universe has already happened.
These thoughts are often associated with discussions surrounding Free Will, Fatalism, Determinism, Block Universe, and other such schools of thought and theories, which we'll discuss in a "future" video, which apparently has already happened, but we just haven't caught up to it yet, or something..
00:00:00 Real, Present, and In Control.. Right?
00:15:33 But Are We Really In Control?

I mean sure it would be sad and everything, but still infinitely better than never having had any at all. It’s like a guy whose swimming pool got destroyed complaining to people who’ve never been swimming and aren’t even allowed to. Look through my lens and you can feel a bit better I think. Also, if it makes you feel any better, since you were already able to make one fall in love with you, it shouldn’t be too hard to get back out there and snatch yourself up another stunner.

  • There’s so much to question. So little we know. So small we seem. Everything seems to be against us and everything is so difficult. So much has been lost. We are all just bricks in the wall. A wall that stands for a reason we don’t know. And that is okay. Because even though we are confine to such limits we still have the power to form ourselves. To experience what we want (for the most part I think). And we can rise above any stronger power if we ban together and try. All you need is a little try. To live your life how you would be happy. So do it. Try. And succeed in your eyes and become who you want. I hope and pray to your soul that you will become who you are. And please, try not to worry about the bigger things. Like the fact that we know little to nothing about this universe and that’s how it will be your entire life and you have no complete say in what it does to you. Please do not think of things that make you afraid. Just try to live. And if you need help then ask and you shal receive. I promise, all will be fine in the end. Good luck, and have fun. ♥️🖤♥️

Where you’re born and who your parents are all contribute to your life experiences and that in turn creates your values which then are the basis for the decisions you make. Essentially, you are not in control of the person you become. It’s all dependent and what ideas you are “introduced” to. We are not in control.

The idea that thoughts are a delayed response, like subtitles on a movie that move just a second too slow. Before you recognize a sub-cognizant thought has occurred your conscious has already begun the next one. In theory the only true free will, is the belief that we are actually in control. I like to believe in the saying; “Science without religion is lame, religion without science is blind.” -Albert Einstein. I also believe that reality is in a superposition, holding true to deterministic values, while also being random, until observed with our position in the motion of energy from events so incredible, that they have already come, and gone, but we are here in this moment comparative to the future, or past, able to observe, and measure, but never to exist simultaneously.

    • If the universe is cyclic, that implies that a new universe is created each cycle. But there is a non-zero possibility that the same universe can be created eventually, given enough cycles. Therefore, should we not assume that we will live out our lives over again? But this doesn't mean that our actions are predetermined. We could make different decisions throughout these theorized infinite cycles. Just a thought.

  • Personally, I am an atheist and I still like the idea of determinism. I believe that everything is determined because things just follow certain rules and react to each other. So basically the idea is that everything was set in motion by the big bang and was predetermined from there. This means that we are not in control at all and we just react to our environment in the way that we have been programmed by our environment. Since this realisation doesn't really help us in our daily lives, as you mentioned, I'm just pretending that the illusion of choice isn't really an illusion. So let's all just pretend that we're in control, even if we're not, because what else can we do? 😁

    • Quantum mechanics breaks complete determinism.

      @TheQeltar@TheQeltar2 ай бұрын
    • @@TheQeltar Here is the counter-argument, in case you're interested: Although quantum mechanics introduces indeterminacy, it does not necessarily negate determinism. For instance, the Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle states that we cannot know both the position and momentum of a particle with absolute precision. However, this does not imply that the particle's behaviour is random or undetermined. Instead, it means that our ability to measure it is limited. Additionally, the many-worlds interpretation of quantum mechanics suggests that all possible outcomes of quantum measurements are realised in some "world" or universe. This view maintains that the universe is deterministic, but we experience it as probabilistic because we can only observe one of these many universes. Therefore, while quantum mechanics adds complexity to our understanding of the universe, it does not necessarily challenge determinism or our perception of free will. 😄

      @haemophiliac.@haemophiliac.2 ай бұрын
    • @@haemophiliac. Doesn't Bell's Test rule out local realism and as such quantum indeterminacy isn't just a problem of measurement? It's a fundamental aspect of nature.

      @TheQeltar@TheQeltar2 ай бұрын
    • @@TheQeltar Bell's theorem does indeed challenge local realism, implying that the universe may be fundamentally indeterministic. However, this doesn't completely rule out determinism. For example, Schrödinger's equation, which governs the evolution of quantum states, works deterministically. The element of indeterminism comes into play mainly during the measurement process. So while quantum mechanics introduces a layer of complexity and challenges our traditional understanding of determinism, it doesn't completely rule it out. The subject definitely is complicated and also remains an active area of research 😊

  • I feel like we are and aren't our brain, like our brain carries a lot of necessity of having a human body, but it also tries to control who we are, our desires fundamentally can affect who we are if we let it, we know what each part is and what it does (possibly) but we don't know what we are conscious the way we are, and why we are like that Basically our brain takes care of the automation, and who we are is incorporeal and is what could be called a soul, its observes and can be affected if we connect the automation with the observer rather than keep both separated for the sake of knowing who we are, and the automation of what we do.

  • If everything was done, time travel would still be relevant though there must be an end. Traveling forward in time would create cause and effect sooner to those left behind.

  • I personally believe that if our choices are pre-determined or not doesn't change anything. If you have no real choice and everything is pre-determined then life is basically a movie and everything matters equally If you truly have free choice then individual atoms don't really matter that much but anything bigger than a penny has an effect, so choices and whatnot matter on a scale of effect or "amount of mattering" Either way I'm here and I'm me, that's all I need to know

  • I’m only up to 27:10 in the video so maybe you address this later but in my opinion although the thought is interesting, my problem with your idea is if our decisions are already premade based on deep parts of our brain than how are people indecisive? Also if our conscious is nothing but “sitting in the back seat and watching our brain work” than why would we even evolve to be conscious in the first place? We are the only only species on the planet with conscious and we are the most dominant species of all time by a mile, that is no coincidence

  • Ah the classic Fatalism vs Self-Determinism debate. Personally I subscribe to the brand of nihilism where nothing matters aside from the constructs of your own moral framework so while nothing you do matters on a cosmic scale, EVERYTHING you do matters to you and the people you care about. So be kind to each other. Your kindness might not change the world, but it might make a difference to them.
