  • We JUST picked up a 12 week old Lab yesterday and we've been watching several of your videos trying to figure out what we're doing. Got him in his crate last night and...it was a long night for sure! I let him carry on, only getting up once to let him out for a potty break. Question I have for day two is, we have to goto the grocery store today. He doesn't want any part of his kennel right now, but he has to be in it while we're out. I know I'm going to have to physically put him on and it's going to be traumatic for him. What's my best options today and for this evening at bedtime? We're trying several of the tips from your previous videos, it's just day two and don't want to make obvious missteps.

    • We don't recommend letting him cry it out or forcing him in the crate if he's panicking. No new learning will take place in that state and you could be making a negative association with the crate. Check out this video for some tips, and consider our crate training mini course for even more help! kzhead.info/sun/ppSrXalriWWOh2w/bejne.html Crate Training Mini Course: courses.howtotrainadreamdog.com/crate-training-course

  • Get my puppy when she is 10-week old just before Christmas which seems to be little later than usual. But I try to “catch up” the trainings that she needs to learn. Almost three weeks past, now she still can’t sleep more than 3-4 hrs before going to potty😅 Try so hard to fit her schedule into my working schedule

    @hongyiwu9056@hongyiwu90564 ай бұрын
    • It's pretty normal that she's still getting up for potty. We normally see sleeping through the night around 15 weeks old. Keep on keepin' on! You'll get there! If you're not crate training, we definitely recommend it because it helps with strengthening the bladder muscles.

    • Got our puppy home at 8 weeks and sleeps in a crate in our bedroom. First two weeks she woke us with a little growl about 4am. Outside for a potty and then back to crate for a sleep,till 6am. After two weeks she was sleeping through from 930pm to 545am. And then she’d come back and rest on our bed till 7.

    • @@HowToTrainADreamDog I did the crate training from day 2😅which helped a lot. Usually she started barking at 3-4 am and I got up to take her for potty(I live in an apartment). All of a sudden she can sleep more than 5 hours for the past two nights. 😆 The things left is to teach her ring the bell for potty. I found it’s hard because after ring the bell she needs to walk and take elevator and outside then potty. Not sure if she can still link that bell ring to the potty🤣

  • My puppy is 8 weeks old. I'll receive her Wednesday of next week. I'm looking forward to training my fur baby companion in accordance with your well educated and displayed program. I've already printed up the Puppy Schedule and Potty Training Chart. I really enjoyed your Kong recipes and will purchase 3-4 of them this weekend. Do you recommend the blue "Puppy Size" or can I just purchase the regular red Kong? Thank you, Andy

    @andovit@andovit4 ай бұрын
    • Great question! The puppy Kong is softer so it's better for puppy teeth, but the hole is smaller and can be frustrating for some puppies. So it's a little trial and error. You might find the West Paw Toppl to be a better option. It has a wide open top that is easier for puppies to get into!

    • Is he new to your home? He might still be adjusting to the change. You can try putting a little warm water on it which releases some fragrance, you can try mushing it up and spreading it on a licky mat or a spoon. As long as you don't overfeed him with treats, we recommend these treats for young puppies: howtotrainadreamdog.com/wellness-soft-training-treats

  • Should I be putting a blanket over my 8 week old puppies crate every time I crate her? I tried taking it off today and she was barking and whining but when she has the blanket she typically does much better.

    @Beloved115@Beloved1154 ай бұрын

    • @@HowToTrainADreamDog How long would you typically do that for? How many months old should they be before removing blanket? Thank you so much for your help!

      @Beloved115@Beloved1154 ай бұрын
    • @@Beloved115 I only remove the crate cover to wash it. I use old sheets or blankets. The point of the cover is two-fold: it helps thier crate feel more like a den and it helps keep thier body heat in. It also helps keep familiar and comforting smells, like the puppies own scent and any toys they love, inside and close to them. When you take the sheet off, you're offering them too much stimulation from light, sights and smells.

  • This is nice for stay at home people but what about us working people? I got a 13 week old puppy a week ago. I’m away from home from 7:30am-4:45pm. I get up early so she has 2 hours with me before leaving. She does not go in the crate half the time but she does the other half the time.

    @AllMightyLifeGiver@AllMightyLifeGiver4 ай бұрын
    • If you are away from home for a long time you'll need to find someone to come in and help out with the puppy. Puppies have a lot of needs and are very social creatures so it's important to have someone help with all the puppy tasks when they are young. Once the puppy is older you'll be able to leave her for that amount of time without some help, but not at 13 weeks.
