Her voice is like a silk scarf gently flowing in the wind✨
You said it perfectly!
Great Analogy! Silky Smooth and Enveloping! ❤
Do you write the notes on back of albums? Wow, how you said, "is like a silk scarf gently flowing in the wind" Wow!!!!
@@pbenson56fran Thank you so much for the beautiful and nice compliment😊 I just wrote and described how her voice/vocals made/make me feel... So peaceful and very relaxed✨
@@GodsObedientChild-Deuteron6262 you are welcome
23? She is 23, people! Absolutely off the charts! Such a breath of fresh air in a time of computer generated sound. Perfection!
She reminds me of Sarah Vaughan. Such a mature voice for one so young.
I couldn't have put it better,Mike
Since this recording was posted 2 years prior to your comment that would put her closer to 21 years. 😵🤯
I first heard her in a park in Harlem NYC from a distance and kept asking who is that? When my friend introduced me to her, she was 21years old at the time,, I was sure they were kidding me or my friend had confused things. She performs locally and is my all time favorite now.
😍😍😍😍😍Unbelievable.
Performers like Samara and Pasquale are going to bring jazz back to the forefront of musical culture! Damn, both are so so SO good!
I sincerely hope so
No, but in their rite they bring a special quality of serenity and timeless joy
I agree!! Jazz like this NEEDS to make a comeback. Pasquale is a virtuoso and Samara is simply awesome!! I love how she just sits still on the couch and flat-out just knocks down every note gracefully.
At 64 now, I've been wondering where all our standout female Jazz singers have gone too...well, here we are! . Thanks for this... sublime singing.🎉🎉🎉🎉
Plenty out there. In addition to Samara Joy, check out Cecile McLorin Salvant, Lucy Yeghiazaryan, Vanisha Gould, Veronica Swift, Anäis Reno - all great young jazz singers on the scene right now with a strong connection to the tradition.
I booked her first gig in NY city at the 55 Bar when she was still in college. She opened her mouth and that was it. I told the owner, "Book this girl again before she's too big." She is also the most down to earth and sweetest person in the world. BTW jazz is coming back with the young kids. I mean, really, it's no surprise given the state of the culture.
Check out Joan Chamorro's channel for the mesmerizing jazz musicians from Barcelona!
Don’t listen to this song though, it’s terrible, the singer Andrea is mediocre at best, a
Melody Gardot!!!! The best of her time, without doubt
Very rarely has a voice stopped me in my tracks such as this one. In a world of trillions, upon trillions of content we can sometimes be forgiven for taking for granted good musicians, and singers. But these two? Absolutely stupendous!!
Great comment 🏆
Same!
Absolutely beautiful ❤
@@aharper113 Just unbeleavable 🌹such a great voice!
Truly.
A miraculous blend of Ella & Sarah in this utterly original voice. These gushing comments consistently reflect the shock of hearing her begin singing. Duke’s masterpiece has never sounded better. Wow.
I thought the same thing!!! She emulates them both while maintaining originality paired with the beautiful musicianship... I'm blown away...
SPOT ON KELLY 🎯💯
Totally agree!
💯
I hear a bit of Lee Wiley as well.
I love it when musicians are unafraid to play or sing the melody as written - (in this song such a beauty) - and don't need to drown it under flashy ornamentation. It shows respect for the composer and lyricist! And yet there is plenty of Samara (what a voice!) and Pasquale (what a tasty player!) in this performance. Thank you both! GORGEOUS.
To nail the intervals and have a beautifully nuanced attack is much more difficult than all that BS ornamentation. You are so right.
Holy crap. I've never heard either of these artists before. They stopped me in my tracks. Phenomenal.
What an immaculate tone on the guitar. The vocals are a golden goblet of wine. Superb musicianship from both performers.
Looks like a 1948-ish Gibson BR-6F and a Trenier Jazz Special (I guess Trenier is a small french guitar maker)
World class. Her voice is off the charts and so is his playing. Wow
100 % d´accord ! Simply wonderful !!
I was just thinking the same thing about her voice.
The depth and range blends beautifully…simply lovely.
I agree. The combination of them together is amazing.
Facts!
She won a Grammy 👌🏽, so well deserved. Love that voice and her humility.
Actually won two Grammys
The song is beautiful. Her voice is mesmerizing and his guitar playing is impressive. I just love everything about this video.
Hope to see much more from these two - what an amazing blending of virtuoso talents!
Very much AGREED✨
His brother, Luigi Grasso is a wonderful alto player
Gosh, you really said it all.
Oh, this girl can sing. She is probably my new favorite. The guitarist is awesome, too.
She's like a perfect blend of Ella and Sarah. What a package 💪🏿💪🏾💪🏽💪🏼💪🏻💪
ahah oh yeah, not many i will say it for but she CAN SING! thank god, there are too many who i have to turn off immediately. if it aint the truth of Ella or Sara or Nina , ie a Great singer i turn them off coz i want the joy of them in my ears...and now Samara:-)
This talent hit like a sack of bricks!!! My GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What a voice!!!!!!!
Wonderful a pleasure & delightful…
Straight facts!
The thumps up suggests I've been here before, glad I had the sense to come back.
The way she can be light and airy, and then drop into the lower range is amazing and beautiful 🥰 she is just lovely.
The guitar is soothing too
I second that emotion!❤
Beautiful. And Samara Joy was a great choice for a vocal partner. She enjoys singing rather than "being a singer" - if you know what I mean.
I absolutely do 100%. She is so pure in voice. She's no mimic or gimmick she is just joy. A voice that can send and find you. She makes me smile.
Well said….💖
This music.. puts me in a place, slows the world.. enjoying every minute 💖
@@ramonabridgett9058 Me too
@@musicman1685 I thought I was the only one who felt this way. Giving me an appreciation for jazz that I couldn't embrace before.
I just sent this to my granddaughter SAMARA. She is 16 and a true audiophile. She’ll love this.
hi, I recently discovered Samara, my 16-year-old daughter Emma is also passionate about good music, and I want to introduce her to it right away!😊
I love how she is singing the song. Not over singing and killing it with runs and riffs. Just singing and enjoying and inviting us into her imagination. Mesmerizing!
This should serve to inform our Black youth that they can expand their musical horizons beyond just hip hop .
Jazz is specifically targeted at adults (often to the exclusion of anyone below the drinking age), so the fact that ANY youth are into jazz is a minor miracle.
Samara's talent is going to shine a light in a juvenile detention center tomorrow. I love sharing positive images and role models with my students. Ase' Samara!
What an intention full of light...it touches me, Belinda. Looks like you are on a mission to ignite hope into some hearts
For some odd reason, your comment along with this beautiful song made me teary-eyed. Samara is a gem.
We’re they (students) receptive to an “open” here?
I hope they enjoyed it, I use to work in juvenile detention as well and it will always be one of the most life-changing, humbling experiences. ❤️
Way to inspire!! 😉👊🏾
Blown away. She’s approaching the tonal quality of Ella. Amazing.
I was thinking Sarah Vaughan.
@@dcurtis53 going with you on that. That’s Sassy’s phrasing in there for sure. Exciting to see where she goes with her voice as her style continues to mature….
exatly
More Sarah to my ear, but perfect pitch is perfect pitch...
True!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Samara 'Pure' Joy and Pasquale 'Godsent' Grasso. Amazing. Period.😀
So young. Yet, I can’t help but feel like she channels Sarah Vaughan and Ella Fitzgerald simultaneously every time I hear her sing 🧡
her voice is so rich and has such deep resonance.
Wonderful. The tradition of jazz is alive and well
It is wonderful to see younger folks taking up the genre.
Just recently discovered this brilliant young artist whose voice could melt butter! How wonderful that she loves the jazz genre and was recognized with two Grammy's last night including BEST NEW ARTIST!! What a talent and this rendition of Solitude brought tears to my eyes. You are a joy to the world Ms. Joy and I look forward to seeing you in concert soon!
A Voice That Could Melt Frozen Butter,IMHO
..
Yes!
Wow! This was absolutely stunning. The tonal quality in this woman's voice, her phrasing and excellent expression were perfectly matched by masterful guitar artistry. It is indeed rare to see such a perfect pairing of top level musicianship that is so musical, without the showiness. These two deserve to go far.
This guy is actually amazing, he definitely is accompanying her voice so wonderfully, his solo stands as confirmation that this was definitely a good pairing, a good mix,at the right time.
What a voice, what a guitarist! A match made in heaven. 🤗
welcome back fans of the The Divine Sarah - the sound, the range, the phrasing is here. But with her own voice. We need more of her.
Her voice is so melodic and mature..
Loved it! Somebody else said it first, but Pass and Fitzgerald come to mind. Samara Joy’s singing is heart melting. I don’t normally like to comment on anyone’s appearance, but I have to say that she is gorgeous.
My very first thought as well.
Strong Sarah Vaughan vibes for me, just gorgeous.
Yes, that is exactly who Samara's voice reminded me of, thank you!!! 💚💚💚
It was Ella Fitzgerald for me, but my goodness I can hear the influences of both Ella and Sarah! Phenomenal
And while we're piling on, her speaking voice is enchanting as well (look for the interview on NPR).
My husband and I had the pleasure of seeing and hearing you both at Keystone Korner. You two are musically made for each other.
Hello 👋 Laura How are you doing today?
Wow her voice is beautiful, So peaceful, I feel so good listening to this This is lovely Who is she? She has an angelic voice
Ancestral remembrance… They have not completely turned their backs on us. HalleluYah!
I see four partners with plenty class, playin'together with sort of touches coming from Heaven...the guitar, Pasquale and Samara, and her voice...in black and white What a beautiful gift 😳
Wow...this sound resonates so deep within my own soul that it's scary. I feel like I'm late to something deeply immaculate.
Very , very impressive. She deserves the Sarah Vaughan award. I also enjoyed listening to the guitarist - wonderful skill and tone was perfect.
WOW just WOW! Everything about this performance is an exquisite perfection of mood, vocal, instrument, song and genre! The song is nearly 90 years old and this pair’s interpretation makes it fresh, but also plays tribute to it’s great history. And Samara’s voice is like warm honey dripping in anticipation of note after note! Pasquale’s fingering of the strings creates such a web of delicacy that blends perfectly with the richness of Samara’s voice! Mind blown and now I’m in love with both of them! 😮🤯😱🖤
She's amazing! A voice so perfectly produced and musical well beyond her years. She's a treasure!
This is so impressive. Mr. Grasso's accompaniment and particularly his solos are amazingly beautiful. Ms Joy has a great voice and together they would thrill Duke Ellington.
What an incredibly light touch you have. And Samara is certainly the most amazing new jazz voice I've heard in the past few years.
the guitarists touch...reminds me of Ralph Lavital
I've no words to describe this.
The old black/white reality, back on display...no lack-a- day, Lord...no lack-a-day...
OH MY D. Washington, S Vaughn, would love to hear her sing Sunday kind of love. E.James, N.Wilson, THANK GOD!!! FINALLY SOME more good Music.
I’m blown away. This is amazing. The guitar. The singing.
Never heard of any one here but her voice is so claccically smooth and smokey that i hit the "like" button after just the first line
What a beautiful voice and beautiful song. Beautiful lady.
Ella, Sarah, and Dinah approve this video
Pasquale Grasso and Samara Joy, perfect match, no other explanation can be done! Congratulations for both!
Great rendition Samara Joy! We lovers of beautiful music and voices thank you and Mr. Grasso!
Thanks for introducing me to this lovely young songbird! So nice to hear such pleasant, jazz vocals for a change. I’m a fan.
Wow her voice is beautiful I feel so relaxed listening to her sing Who's she?
Wow! Ms. Joy’s voice IS AMAZING! I can hear an influence of (my favorite female singer) Sarah Vaughn. Ms. Joy is THE MOST IMPRESSIVE vocal talent I have heard in many many years! I can’t say enough about her inarguably FAR superior voice, one of those rare voices that come along only every couple of generations. Can’t wait to hear more of her interpretations of those wonderful Old Jazz Standards.
Just. Yes. 🎙🎼
This is a few hours old, but it's already a duet that's made from stuff of legend.
Every time I hear this I am blown away by the pure artistry and emotional maturity of this 23 year old voice. When you got it, you got it….and she has it in spades! She puts the herd of current pop female singers to shame…eat your hearts out ladies, Samara Joy is the real thing!
Samara Joy melts stress away
Stunning thanks for bringing back real quality music
She has joined the ranks of some of jazz great female vocalists.
When she began to sing, my jawbone almost dropped to my knees...
She is just Awesome! Ella Fitzgerald , Sarah Vaughan will be so proud ❤❤❤❤
Just stunning. And how refreshing it is to hear a young female singer actually singing a song how it was written and without the awful vocal acrobatics everywhere today. Absolutely beautiful in every way.
Outstanding. A young lady singing it the way it was meant to be done. That was absolutely beautiful.
Oh my oh my! That doll is singing just like the angels! What kind of magic is this?
If she never sang another note, she will probably go down in history as the best alto of all time.
they are bringing Joe Pass and Ella Fitzgerald to the next level
exactly what I think
Hi KZheadrwatcher. I don't want to deny you, but Joe Pass and Ella Fitzgerald recorded more than 45 years ago, they also reproduced their recorded performances live and with much less resources and also only guitar and voice. This video has been edited (the audio was recorded separately from the video) ... In addition, Grasso's style, although excellent, differs a lot from Joe's ... Greetings from Argentina.
@@rickwildon It differs but...it may be a step further...
@@rickwildon Joe Pass and Ella Fitzgerald remain an exceptional duo and they were the first to make such a great performance. Love from Denmark...
@@TheVinciol I send you a big hug from Argentina.
Her voice is velvet, a smooth bourbon whiskey, neat. Looking for her shortly👏👏👏🙏🏻❤️
Nat Queen Cole! OMG!! Is she for real? You go girl; the sky's the limit
The simplicity of this complex recording is so satisfying. Isn't that what it should be? Thank you for these talented humans
Well...simply spectacular duet pairing. Real musicians in modern times.
Brava. Stellar. Samara is A talent to be reckoned with. Keep it up. The simplicity, the clarity the lack of any affectations. No vocal gymnastics but clear, resonant emotional delivery. Companioned with Pasquale Grasso is enlightened. A duo to be cheered.
Now this is real music Ya’ll❤
I have the unique privilege of knowing her, and seeing her perform in small jazz clubs in jersey city snd NY- gig places, NJPAC when she won the Sarah Vaughn jazz competition years ago and I knew from the very first time that I heard her voice that she would change music forever. She is incredible, and I am so proud to witness the world get to know her voice like this.
I'm so mad I am only finding out about her after I saw the Grammy's. This song is like a warm embrace. It's everything I love.
Pasquale Grasso has an amazing voice definitely reminds me of the amazing singer Sarah Vaughan very beautiful, smooth, feminine strong vocals, I Haven’t heard in a long time very refreshing. God bless you and continue on this journey of making beautiful music bringing joy to peoples heart. God bless you. and the guitar player plays like an angel and both fits together so well.
Pasquale is the guitar player
For those who never knew...THIS is music.
I didn't know we made this type of music anymore. Such a happy discovery
Classe, tecnica, sensibilità e profondo phatos, a questa ragazza non manca proprio niente, Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan, Billie Holyday possono dormire soni tranquilli, perché il Jazz adesso sta in buone mani!!!
Concordo
My God who is this child!!! Never heard such pure vocals .. that beautiful contralto
Close your eyes, feel the frission, be touched by YAH❤
The guitarist, bassist and Samara is just so perfect.❤
You both made West Montgomery, (on that guitar perspective), and Billie Holiday very proud… as artist D Train would say “Keep On” - as a musical unit delivering beautiful inspiration!❤️🖤💚
Sensacional! Pessoas jovens cantando música de qualidade. É tudo o que precisamos. Sensational! Young people singing quality music. It's all we need.
HOW????? How can someone sooo young SING with such maturity and depth???? What a STAR!
Today’s Ella and Joe Pass. Nice to hear young folks carrying the torch.
What a shock 😲 such a huge, deep voice when she started to sing .. Beautiful 🥰

What a beautiful performance by Pasquale and Samara! 🥺😢❤👏👏👏👏
Samara's voice is melodic, soothing, and sultry. What a pleasure listening to someone so young singing with exceptional soul and beauty--not to mention Pasquale's wonderful playing.
Holy shit! That voice is everything!!
I'm glad she is getting noticed. She had a Grammy nomination this year.
Congratulations to Samara Joy for her Grammy tonight, for Best New Artist! Wow, does she ever deserve it. Her voice is the kind that could make a grown man cry.
Good Lord...what a gift!!! You are an incredible singer...what a voice!!! WOW, girl...Nothing short of amazing!!!
Why is this song making my eyes tear up. This isn’t my usual type song of music, but I’m drawn to it like a moth to a flame

When young virtuoso musicians choose poetry...
omgoodness! Such talent in these 2 young people. I rarely make comment but I HAD to write something. ❤
Such a beautiful reminder of the recordings by Ella and Joe Pass.
Esta voz, esta música!!! Es lo mejor!! Es un proceso curativo!!! ❤❤❤❤
Hermosísimo❤️
